Pleasantly surprised with this local brewhouse in Pismo Beach. We wanted a casual atmosphere dinner. We chose this because of the menu variety. Outstanding food. We ate Flash Fried Brussels and Ahi Poke with kettle chips and lettuce cups, as well as the chicken wings and Le Hombre burger. My husband is not the easiest to impress. He LOVED that burger! We both couldn't stop munching on the brussels which also had bits of granny smith apple as a sweet/tart surprise. I knocked down one star for management that needs to better plan for staffing. Whenever we are on the central coast, we always find time to stop here and enjoy a tasty brew. Located in Shell Beach and right off Highway 101. The area is residential so no water views but the vibe here is laid back and very chill. The beer list is extensive and the appetizers are good. We like the poke nachos to complement our drinks. There is the bar area and a larger dining area. For brewskis, I love the Karl Strauss Red Trolley Ale and the Big Sky Moose Drool Brown Ale. We have always received good service and this brewery attracts mainly locals. Parking can be a challenge but we have got lucky twice and pulled right up front. We like to come here for appetizers and drinks, enjoy the patio or sit at the bar. So here are my favs for apps: cheese curds, ahi poke, and fried Brussel sprouts. You can't go wrong with any of them and if you are looking for another to add in for sharing I love the pretzel. On occasion that we have come in for a meal food was just as good. My favs, the beet salad, cubano or the brewhouse burger. Great atmosphere for a hang. Parking can be a bit tough but worth the hunt for a spot. read more

MAR2025 We came in since the place was near the hotel and we were meeting up with a group. Service was attentive and helped with any questions we had. Water refills and check ins frequent. I think the only difficulty we had with arriving was a small parking lot and multiple cars in this case. The space is really open inside the restaurant with plenty of area to spread out. I had gotten the veggie options I could with the brussel sprouts, a beet salad, and a side of veggies which ended up being broccoli. Everything was made and plated well. The beet salad was pretty good, though a little imbalanced as far as ingredients and wanted a bit more from it. Cooked veggies were what you'd expect. The brussel sprouts were the best part though. Well cooked, nicely seasoned, the flavor was on point through out. I'd come back just for the brussel sprouts really, though not a terrible amount of vegetarian options to be frank. read more

We came in at the end of a long day. Our server was a little confused, but he got the job done. We placed a drink order and I asked what ciders they had, he didn't know, but said he'd find out. He brought the rest of our drinks out and I asked about the cider. He said he forgot. We started with some cheese curds. They were fantastic. Lightly breaded and cooked well. I got the truffle burger, the review would have been 4 stars but the server ignored my request for no onions in the burger. Honestly the onion flavor detracted from the burger, it would have been great if they had made it like I asked. We also had to wake repeatedly for napkins and mayo. The server couldn't multi task. The rose was delicious, my husband enjoyed tbe kolsch and topa topa. We split the ahi nachos made of won ton chips which were delicious. We had our 5 month old with us and sat in the outdoor section and felt totally welcomed there were several other babies and dogs. Great stop! read more

The menu looked great, so we decided to eat here. It's a big restaurant, with an outdoor area. We used the street parking across from the business. When seated, to start we had the cheese curds as our appetizer, which are phenomenal. We could have easily ordered two of them. For my entree, I had the ahi salad and my husband had the nachos. The nachos had the best cheese (beer cheese?) which is actually what we prefer on nachos. The ahi salad was good and refreshing. I think the ahi was a touch overcooked but it was still really good. Positives: Beer list was extensive. Negatives: Food was bland. I got the burrito bowl. White rice. Flavorless meat. A little pico de gallo. Overall very underwhelming. Wife got a chicken sandwich. Two very overcooked pieces of thin cut breast. Drenched in bbq sauce. Again no flavor or semblance of seasoning. The order at the bar concept is very covid reminiscent and a lazy way to avoid hiring the appropriate amount of staff. Not tried but seems interesting ...watching the bartender...free pouring from a tequila bottle with no nozzle and no jigger was amazing. The food...traditional pub house burger, I got it without tomato and onion and it was the best I've had in a long time, the Pubcheese mustardish concoction on it was just right!! The service was excellent from the bartender, Sangria was delicious, perfect blend. My wife who is a super taster and doesn't like 90% of the foods she eats, loved the tacos carnitas and chicken! The bites were so tough (i assume cheap cut if meat) that we told our waiter " this meat is not chewable". He suggested a knife. The service was very good. Never refilled waters. The food was tasty, would make small changes with the burrito bowl, not sure what meat options were available to add to this, I didn't ask. But I was add shrimp a citrus wedge to zest up the bowl. Maybe some of those tortilla strips that come on the Baja salad and some other burrito toppings.. it looks fine at first photo but after eating it I can say it's mostly rice. It tasted good but the portions were off. Too much rice. I like how chill the seating area is. There are tvs to watch the games but there's not overly loud and in your face. Review way overdue. Some friends and I came here for a late lunch. Party of four. Place is spacious with plenty seatings inside and out. Lots of tvs as well. We arrived and was seated promptly. Service was good. We ordered and got our food in a timely manner. We all had their brew house oyster shots. Delicious! I tried their Elvis lives burger. We always eat here when we come to Pismo Beach. It is so convenient as we always stay at the Seacrest Ocean Inn and this place is on the same property. Food is good a little pricey but you pay for good food. They tables with windows that look out to the ocean. The service was quick as well. I belong to a New Comers group. One thing we do each month is take turns finding Happy Hours or have them at our homes. I live in Shell Beach. I tried one restaurant and they said they don't usually take reservations for Happy Hour but would ask the manager-never heard from him.I live in Shell Beach and thought I'd try the Brewhouse. We used to go all the time when they first open but only go once in awhile-it's actually walking distance. I walked in,spoke with the onsite manager,Michael who was a pleasure and made a reservation for 35 for Happy Hour. When we arrived the lady manager set up several tables for 10 on the side. They brought in an extra server just for us! I'm not sure of her name, Ivrana? Sorry, She was the best! People started arriving a few at a time.Most of the folks stood for awhile.and ordered drinks. She remembered who ordered what and gave individual checks. Then almost everyone ordered the Happy hour appitzers. Wow, they are still talking about the portions. 3 favorite were Steak bites, Onion Rings and Brussel Sprouts! I think the restaurant was happy with the turn out and we were happy with everything! Many folks from SLO have never been to Shell Beach Brew House, but they will be returning for sure! read more

The Baja street salad was ok. Hardly any tomatoes or onions. Portions were wonky on it. Ordered a house signature cocktail. Was ok, nothing spectacular and overpriced for how small it is. Went later in the evening. Very few people. The service was ok. Not as attentive as he could have been considering how few people were there. Wasn't terrible, just meh. Mom and I came in for a late dinner before calling it a night. I had seen the Elvis Burger on the menu and was super intrigued, because I've had some REALLY good peanut butter burgers. This one has bananas (which anyone that knows me, knows that I think bananas are one of God's punishments to mankind.) :-) But it intrigued me! Overall I ended up being sadly underwhelmed by the burger. I expected to be punched in the face in some form or fashion by the bananas, but the flavor itself was absent. The menu says all burgers are medium (some pink)... mine was completely devoid of pink, therefore somewhat dry. The bacon, while adding texture and salt, was also not flavorful. A candied bacon may have been a more preferable touch. All in all, a decent-ish burger but not one I'd come back for. Our waiter was awesome so service gets a 5 for sure. Bummer. All I can say. $88 is way overpriced for the service first and foremost and the food shortly after. 12/31/23. We stopped in for a visit, got served barely by a college looking kid with braces. Told him right away that we had a special needs Member in our family. Yeah that didn't do ANYTHING but possibly unmotivated him. Listen, we don't expect much which is the worst part. He was checked out. Did not listen to our order, waters went empty, table was sticky and had hair stuck to it. One bathroom of two had piss all over the toilet seat, so there was a line for people to wait to use the one that was recently cleaned. Nobody could be bothered to wipe the tables properly or clean the second bathroom. Worst part was when our orders were incorrect, our watery $14 martini sat in the bar and for some reason this guy was cut early from his shift. Not sure why, there are plenty of things to do in this place. So, mid service, he comes over and tells us that he really doesn't work very often, he works Mondays and some Sundays, so he really doesn't know what's good on the menu and he let us know that he was leaving and so have a nice day, bye, he's "out of here." I think people just need to be considerate. Husband is an ex chef for fine dining and I have managed many jobs in hospitality for half my life. Plus, managed a top winery in Paso Robles. Service needs an upgrade. Even if it is a football game day and what not. Please consider so we can consider a recommendation for your restaurant in the near future. One small change you can make is if you're cutting someone's shift early, that person needs to re-introduce the new person. When we got left with no introduction, we didn't know who our server was. We kept looking around for help. Next, always ask a table, "How was your experience?" Had we been asked we could have voiced in person. Then the stars have a fighting chance to go up upon a professional conversation, "oh I'm sorry and thank you for your honesty. My name is (________) just ask for me when you come back into town and I'll be sure you're taken care of." We got instead a..."sign here" and nothing more when we left. read more

Food was good, but the primary function of a brew house should be around serving beer. Don't go here. Go to Blast and Brew right down the road, they serve a 22oz big sur for the price of the 10oz here. Take brewhouse out of your name. Dining room area was a mess, huge TV boxes everywhere and tables and chairs all piled around, had to walk around a couple to get to and from our table, odd and unprofessional. Stopped in for the first time with the family while on a quick 2 day getaway. Took advantage of their buy 2 apps get 1 free during happy hour. (Definitely a good deal) The only criticism I would have is that when asked what side we wanted for the kid's meal, it prompted us to ask,"what are the options? When told fruit was an option, we chose fruit. It would've be nice to be then told that fruit was an extra 3 dollars. It's 3 bucks I get it, but maybe just a friendly reminder to the servers, just give patrons a heads up if there's an extra charge to something you offer.
