Generously giving a four star rating given this is a solid Cajun seafood option in the area. If you don't want to drive too far and this is your locale, you can fulfill your need for all the shrimp or whatever seafood you desire by hitting up Shell Shock Seafood House! First things first, the food and pricing was pretty good/standard. For shrimp you'd pay market price by the pound and are able to choose what sauce and spice level tickles your fancy. I opted to get their Shell Shock House Special Sauce at medium spicy and it wasn't overwhelmingly spicy, but had a good kick to it. The sauce itself felt thinner than other Cajun restaurants that I've been to, but it still did its job of soaking all the seafood and sides (if you choose for them to be in the bag) with all the flavor! The table next to us informed us that they ordered mild, but it didn't really have any kick to it at all so not sure if spiciness is hit-or-miss and chef-dependent, but just some food for thought for you! My friend also ordered a half a pound of sausage and oh boy, half a pound is a good amount and they were pretty flavorful. I don't foresee how anyone could really need more than half a pound, but maybe that's just me? We also ordered Cajun fries for the table. Don't get me wrong, they were good but they felt very lackluster in comparison to other cajun fries I've had prior. They literally looked like French fries with a just a dust of Cajun fries. You could taste the seasoning, but still felt a little average to me. Their saving grace was that they were pretty good solid fries as a baseline. So as many Yelpers prior to me indicate Customer Service is nothing really to call home about. It felt like they were short-staffed as it took some time before our waitress could take our order. Once our orders came out, it was not really a big deal but they kept mixing up our orders (i.e. giving my guy friend the beer I ordered after I was the one who was carded for it, etc.). Also no one was going around to check on us or refill our drinks/water and my friend didn't get a refill on his raspberry iced tea until we asked for our bill. She apologized for the service, which is kind and very responsible but at the same time I feel like if there was more staff this could have been avoided and all patrons could have felt more attended to. They also have a good amount of beers on draft and sold by bottle. Also not sure if this matters to anyone but as opposed to leaving rolls of paper towels at your table, they have actual napkin dispensers. So that's pretty nice when you're getting all messy and wanna wipe your hands and face with less work. They also give you gloves and a bib to keep yourself clean or if you have sensitive skin (like me!). :) In re to cleanliness and space this spot does win. There's lots of tables. There's even a back area for private parties or bigger parties, I'm assuming is available if you call ahead - but do not quote me on that. Call or come in and ask. Restrooms are clean. There's a small waiting area with some chairs, but also space to wait outside. TLDR; Solid Cajun option to fulfill your cravings in the East Bay/Hayward area. Customer service is OK. Flavor profile of the food is pretty standard. Can't foresee myself craving, but wouldn't question coming back. read more

I came here due to the 15% off coupon, and it was a good deal for my first time around, when the shrimp was only $13/lb. The second time I went, it went up to $14.5... the value was instantly lost. It's all about that value man. I enjoyed my shrimp here because they were not mushy but crisp and fresh, unlike some other places I have been. The second time around I figured it was because they cook their seafood "just right" so that the meat is plump. I know because I had leftover shrimp that time, took it home and reheating gave me mushy shrimp. As in the case of mussels, they were a minute short of cooking and so that the shells were barely open... It is up to the individual to decide if they want almost undercooked seafood. The sauce is okay. I am trying to figure out what they mean by "you could choose to have your seafood steamed or boiled". Like steamed is with the sauce and boiled is the dry ones without the sauce? My waiter from second visit wasn't able to really resolve my confusion. The service is a hit-or-miss. First time had a good waitress who is experienced; second time we had two waiters who kept overstepping each other's boundaries tables; as in, we were being asked the same questions twice. I have eaten here many times and it's a bit better than just "ok". The food is good and the sauces are also good. Compared to their competitors, Shell Shock is a bit more expensive. The scene is relatively chill. Seems people are allowed to tag on the wall and support beams, which I don't care for either way because I came for the food. As far as service goes; the food comes out fairly quickly. I went in today around 2pm and there was barely anyone inside. Unfortunately, our server was less attentive and only checked on us once (when we were done). I did catch one customer having to go to the order counter to get someone's attention for something they needed. Totally understand that during the lull in customers or from peak hours that the staff should relax a bit but not to the point that no staff members are in the main area. Our exit was also lackluster as no one was around. I live close to the restaurant, but I am not sure if I will return. Friendly staff gumbo was good and cajuan fries , we ordered lemon pepper wings which we got but they were over seasoned and a lot of batter on them wish I was able to take a picture . We also bought this combo that had shrimp , Dungeoness crab and muscles that includes two corns and potatoes I believe however we got the sauce that was a mixture of all the sauces but it tasted like a lot of pepper. Seafood cravings? Extremely hungry? This is the place to be! Restaurant floor is more than twice as big as typical crab shacks, so you almost never have to wait. Tables are also very spacious, you'll have plenty of elbow room! Food also comes out fast so if your stomach is running out of patience, you know where to go. The size of their shrimp is also bigger than other crab shacks I've been to. They have recently updated their house sauce to my knowledge and it's much more flavorful! I have to give this place five stars for several reasons: We came on a Wednesday night, and there was no wait. We ordered quite a lot of food with the house sauce which was delicious - love that they do sausage orders by either half a pound or a full pound rather than numbers of sausage. The sauce was tangy and delicious (although there seemed to be less sauce here than at other places), but they did give us bibs and gloves which was an added bonus. The garlic noodles were the best I had at a place like this; I would come back just for them! We ordered the cajun wings (seemed smaller, but my dad liked it), and sweet potato fries, which were also delicious. The service is the reason why I bumped this from 4 stars to being 5 stars. Our server was attentive and very polite. She was extremely friendly and patient with us. My 16 month nephew had a little accident (he ate too many garlic noodles too fast - I mean, who could blame him), and he threw up on the floor. Shell Shock managed to clean it up pretty quickly, and mentioned that it was no big deal. As of 8:20 pm, no additional food or the check. My father had gone to the car an hour earlier and fell asleep. COVID pick up order review: Ordered online for pick up and they had everything ready for us on arrival. Staff are following masking precautions and there's only one party allowed at a time inside for ordering/pickup. First time trying this place (pandemic pick up) and was not disappointed! I live in north Fremont and there's 3 Cajun seafood restaurants within 5 or so miles of me and I do not like any of them. My go-to is kickin crab, which is a good 15 miles away. Found this place on yelp and it's only 7.5 miles away! Placed a hefty order of: Cajun fries: didn't have a strong enough flavor Sweet potato fries: nice and crispy Calamari: nice and crispy Garlic Noodles: good and garlicky, but do prefer when the noodles have a little more bite to them. Combo #1: we opted for 3 lbs of shrimp head on with the mild shell shock house special flavor. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and were easy to peel and not soggy at all. Includes with the combo was corn, potatoes and sausage. The sauce was pretty good, not super oily like other places. So... food was good. Prices.. a little high. Service was surprisingly good. Came to check out this new place as I'm a fan of a good seafood boil. Of all days to go it was also mother's day! I don't know what it is about their prices.. perhaps it is because of the location? but yea.. it was like $16.95 for a lb of crawfish. Their house sauce is a combination of garlic and lemon butter, and their cajun sauce. Nothing particularly special in my opinion, however a nice delicious flavor to it. Their spiciest level of Fire or Tongue on Fire was... hmm.. was a little bit disappointing. It was spicy, but no where hear the level I was expecting it to be. It was like... Taco Bell Fire sauce level of spicy... Though, despite my tongue wasn't on fire as advertised, I still enjoyed the overall flavors. Garlicky indeed.
