I loved Shelle Jewelers, Manny was like family. I trusted everyone. I had my eye on a Bertolucci watch & it was expensive, just under $2k. I offered to trade some of my estate watches towards the purchase & Manny offered to take a look. I traded a men's vintage *Tag Heuer* and a *Vintage Tiffany Rolex* Sub Mariner. I added some cash into the deal. I collected vintage from estate sales inexpensively, but was totally naive as to their value. The Rolex alone had value perhaps twice the Bertolucci. It must've been clear to jewelers. I see the rate Tiffany Rolex seeking for stunning prices. I was and am still stunned Manny would take advantage of me and the family. He literally stole from me in that exchange. The Bertolucci isn't worth $1k today. When Shelle jewelers is mentioned, this story is told. Shame on Manny & son. read more

When my husband mentioned he was buying my jewelry for a milestone bday I told him I wanted the new peloton bike and tread instead. Cleary this pandemic has changed me because usually I'd be all about the jewels...but all the bling isn't quite as fun when you don't leave your house. So I was surprised when I walked into Shelle Jewelers and saw they were packed on a Friday afternoon with couples (mostly elderly couples jewelry shopping. These customers clearly have more active social lives than I do these days or are planning to take out all the jewels post pandemic. Not a bad idea. You may be wondering what I was doing there if I said no to jewelry, but I was there to take a few links off an a new band I bought for my apple watch at Nordstrom's recent anniversary sale. Despite them being busy I was helped right away and the watch band fit perfectly a few min later. The longest process was the checkout where they needed to record my life story and all the deets about the watch band, but besides that it was easy peasy. They even had lots of yummy individually wrapped snacks/candy for people to munch on, which wasn't possible with a mask on, but my kids were thrilled with the candy when I picked them up from school a few min later. While the checkout process was happening I did get a chance to look at all the pretty jewels and it definitely made me second guess my bday present choice. So perhaps I'll be jewelry shopping next time and also happy I have a good store nearby to help fix the current jewelry I have. read more

I'm a big fan of this place. It's an old school style, family business that has a nice selection. I purchased a high end smartwatch here and now have all our family watches serviced here. They are very friendly and professional. Their charges are reasonable and they seem to hire nice, down to earth people. Inside they have snacks and drinks... always a plus while you're waiting. Parking is easy and out front. This is not an intimidating jeweler who makes you feel like a cheapskate for not having a $1,400 watch. I haven't purchased any other jewelry here nor have had more than a band or battery changed, but would recommend this business wholeheartedly. read more

I had a watch that my mother bought me for my birthday. We bought the watch from a different jeweler. When we bought the watch, they warned us that it was "as is" and might stop working. I really liked the watch and bought it anyway. It did stop working within 2 months. My mom passed away and I had the watch. I decided to bring it to Shelle to see if maybe they could fix it. They were able to and it works!!! I was pleasantly surprised and very happy. I don't understand why the other jeweler would sell the watch when they could have repaired it in the first place! A disclaimer that I have never BOUGHT jewelry here, but I have had multiple watches repaired and, most recently, my rings re-sized, so my review is limited to their repair services. I've been coming to Shelle for decades - since they were located on Vernon in Glencoe. It was always my go-to for replacing watch batteries and having watches re-sized. Recently I needed to have my wedding rings (purchased out of state) re-sized (made smaller) and after doing a brief Yelp search, Shelle was really the only place I even considered. They were a pleasure to work with. Pricing for ring re-sizing was based on the number of stones on the ring, but my two rings came out to about $150, which was what I expected. The work is very high quality and I know that they stand behind it. My only complaint was that I was quoted a 2 week turnaround and it ended up taking 3. But overall, the job was very well done and I believe appropriately priced. I will continue to come here for my watch and jewelry repair needs. read more

I have shopped at Shelle a number of times. I find both father Manny and son Brian to be helpful, smiling, and pleasant IF everything is going well - if you are buying and not asking for anything out of the ordinary. If however, you are attempting to return an item or are not satisfied with their 'rules', or have a complaint - watch out.They are both wolves in sheep's clothing. I bought a bracelet there and found that the way it was constructed, my skin kept getting stuck in the links. By the end of the evening, my arm had red marks all over it. Nothing like a painful bracelet! I had a friend wear it the next evening and the same thing happened to her. I thought that I had purchased silver, but found later that it was steel. I asked why steel would be so expensive - "Because it's Italian" Manny laughed. Not really worth the $300 I paid for it after using a $100 birthday/anniversary coupons ($400 in total). I should have asked if it was silver and not assumed it was - my mistake; certainly no one offered the information. I didn't wear it for a month or so as we went out of town. They wouldn't refund my money because I returned it too late - why? Being away and then stopping in to speak with one of them and neither one was in on two occasions. A woman helped me in their stead - she was very nice but repeated the 'rules' as if she was a parrot. When I finally found the father in and explained my problem, he showed me a similar bracelet and said I could exchange it. This was twice the money and I thought it was garish. - he also said that 'This one should be comfortable as it's shaped differently'. He was right - the first one was a flawed design and he knew it. "We've sold 500 of these and never had a complaint" - fake news I'm certain. To make matters worse, he would not allow me to choose something else and use the coupons I had brought in initially. "You have to have the coupons with you". What????? The coupons were lost to me. I left buying nothing after he told me to wait for next year's coupons! In fact, I waited, but they never came - the excuses were ridiculous - "We send out 1500 coupons" was all he kept saying. They never came - probably took me off the list I had been on for years. I eventually bought something for my daughter using the $300 credit and added even more money to that. She had seen something else she liked as well, so I waited for the advertised sale even though I was told this item would not be on sale. It was - he had wanted me to buy it before and had not been truthful. They lost more than my good will and respect - it was a very bad PR move. This is a neighborhood store and news spreads fast. I no longer recommend them and have no good words to say about them. And all because they couldn't break their precious rule, decided not to stand by the quality of their merchandise, and were too cheap to let me again use the coupons. Bad business move as there are several wonderful jewelers in the area who don't turn sour and arrogant when things don't go their way. read more
