Such a lovely cafe with delicious drinks, tasty food, and fantastic service! I hung out here with two friends on a Sunday around noon. We were able to sit in a cozy area near the front windows. You order at the counter, take a seat, then they bring out your drinks and food to you. I enjoyed the following: Persian tea, pistachio iced latte, guava croissant, mortadella sandwich on focaccia. All were excellent! I look forward to trying other menu items in the future. There is garage parking if you're not able to find street parking. It's also right next to Bart! read more

Great cafe located inside the Orinda plaza. My boyfriend and I ordered some pastries and a chai latte at the counter and took a seat outside on the patio. We were brought our pastries, which included a slice of almond cake, lemon pastry, focaccia and another piece of bread. Everything was so delicious and flavorful! One time I just had a cream-filled pastry; the second time I had the savory Persian breakfast--small bowls of cucumber, tomato, cheese, walnuts, and mint with pita-like bread to wrap it all in--plus of course a pastry. My wife and I stopped in for a late afternoon decaf on a Saturday. The shop had a peaceful ambiance with tasteful decor and comfortable seating. Besides the Turkish coffee, they offered decaf versions of all their drinks. The family running the shop was pleasant and polite. It's great to have a local shop like this to grab a high quality coffee drink on the go or to hang out. FINALLY. A warm cozy cafe with delicious food in Orinda. The food here is spectacular and the service is great. We ordered the sweet breakfast platter which included bread, berry jam (), orange jam, clotted cream, butter, and honey. It was perfect for two with some tea and coffee. I have been to this cafe three weeks in a row since the first week I went. I love the decor, and the owners and staff are super nice. The food is delicious. I have tried their mortadella, Persian style hot dog, kuku sabzi, lentil soup , and both their savory and sweet breakfasts, and they were all excellent. I think we accidentally came on opening weekend because it was PACKED and it seemed to be a lot of family and friends visiting. It was sprinkling and there weren't enough tables inside so we had to sit outside. It started to rain harder and then our toddler spilled her water cup onto her banana bread, and I guess the owner saw this happen and was thoughtful enough to give us a new slice which we very much appreciated. The Persian breakfast came with clotted cream, 2 jams, honey and pita. The jams were so full of fruit flavor without being overly sweet that it makes you want to keep coming back for more. The pita was strong and pliable which was a great vehicle for all the different offerings. The staff is fast and friendly. The cafe itself is the kind of place you come to absorb calm and serenity. I really wanted to like the place. And I will give them another try. They seem to cater to those who are there in the theater square already and not those who want a decent cup of coffee to start their day. I guess those would go to Peet's across the street. The Shemroon cafe doesn't not open before 8, so those of us who need to get to work stand no chance. I did try the $5 Americano (it's an espresso shot with water). It was ok. Every pastry sold -- cakes, tarts, focaccias, various croissants, and even the bread for sandwiches -- is made in-house.
