I Love this Nations !!! It's Clean and it's Retro!!! I stopped in and Ordered a Cheeseburger Large Fries Large Chocolate Shake And a Slice of Pecan Pie!!! I grabbed a Table and Relaxed!!! 15 Minutes later they called my Number!! My Burger was Delicious!!! The Shake was Creamy and Refreshing!! The Counter Staff was Friendly and Efficient!!! Love us a Nation's burger!! Today, hubby wanted a patty melt which is new to the menu. The sandwich is made in their French toast bread versus rye so one point down for hubby. I thoroughly enjoyed the crispy, cheesy, grilled onion goodness we shared. New also are sliders. Hmmm, next time! And chili fries! Very tasty bean and meet chili atop freshly cooked fries. We were full so pie next time. The goal is to try a new flavor each time. Thankfully we don't eat here often but we could! Whenever I see the drive thru line outside of any In-N-Out in the area, I always think of Nation's. Why wait when you could just go to Nation's? I think N's fries are better, for sure. They have a larger menu, and more options for non-meat eaters. They have a yummy grilled cheese, and all-day breakfast. They have a reliably good salmon burger and veggie patty, too. And they have very decent diner-style pies, with rotating seasonal flavors. What more could you want? The Orinda location is my fave in the area because the staff seems to be more attentive to detail there. The recent overhaul of the look of the store and branding makes it even better. Ok well first off I found out they have a new definition of a Sundae. An ice cream sundae to the lady behind the counter is ice cream. That's it. I should have said hot fudge if I wanted hot fudge. Had the worst cheeseburger I have had ever at Nation's! The bun fell apart, the lettuce was soggy, they left out the onion. It was an overall mess and was very greasy! The fries were like they had been soaked in oil and were overcooked! And the employee taking orders at the counter was the rudest woman I have encountered in a service industry like this, not even a thank you. When I took the burger back to get the onion they missed it was like I insulted her to ask and when she brought it back, she practically threw it at me. I won't go back. read more

gone into this place and they wouldn't honor their . And when then I confronted them about not honoring their she still wouldn't what they advertise and then they gave me a piece of pie that was so old it tasted like rubber. First they advertise any burger and fries for $10 and when I go there I told him I wanted the cowboy and they said that wasn't included but on the said any burger the second time I went in there they were offering 50% off of any entrée for one day for the third week of football as a promotion and when I went in there they wouldn't give me that offer either They do false advertisement just to get you into the restaurant read more

This is one of the best nations in the area. Staff are always friendly. I also see them practicing a great deal of patience with a variety of customers. I live in Orinda and there are a lot of spoiled kids and adults who can be difficult. The food is also consistently good. The restaurant is kept very clean as well. read more

Smelled amazing when I walked in! Clean restaurant and friendly staff! Haven't been to Nations in over 8 years! But my daughter had the after school snack attack and I needed to think quick! lol Remembered this Nations was on the way to my husband's job, so I stopped for a quick order of fries. The one less star is only because it took a while to get my two fries. So prepare to wait a little bit if they are backed up on orders. It's a no-frills fast food joint, but the pies make up for it! Can't beat the price of their pies too! $18.95 for 1 pie. Love their pies! It was a spur of the moment to grab a couple of their pies after dinner. We wanted a whole chocolate cream pie, but they only had one pie which was already cut up. So we got a whole banana cream and cherry pie. They were both really good and tasted good together too! The banana cream was sweet but not overly sweet and their cherry pie was tart with a zing! Both flavors balance each other well! We ordered 2 pies, but the cashier didn't hear us and only charged us for one pie and we had to re-order another pie. I can't say much about their service, since the pies are already made. I don't know how long it takes for food orders as I have not been here other than for their pies. Not much for ambiance. It's like any fast food spot. People come for the convenience and possibly the price, not to admire their decor. Sorry, I didn't take a photo of their pies. But I will next time, for sure! read more

Nation's has been a Bay Area standby since I was in my teens. Love that they continue to be a leading establishment for good quality diner food. The service is consistent throughout the chain! They have an online ordering platform, but if you are looking to customize your order (swap sourdough on a cheeseburger and ask them to grill the onions... you can thank me later!), a phone call is the way to go! 1/3/24 It's alright. I do like their pies, but tried their food for the first time and it's not that great. For mine the hamburger is upside down, meat on top, veggies on bottom. Secondly meat is dry, drier than say McDonalds or Carl's and such. Also there's literally about 2x as much veggie as meat. Onion rings are definitely crunchy but it's all dough and breading. 3/5 for cuz pies are good read more

I ordered a cheese burger with grilled onions and a whole double crust apple pie online. No wait to pick up my order. They both were so delicious! Lastly lady at register rolled her eyes then said they didn't want to stay late cleaning because it was slow and they decided to clean early long before closing. Long time customer lost!! read more

For $10 you get a good decent breakfast. If i dont want to make breakfast, i can always count on Nations for the generous portions of egg, sausage, hashbrowns and tosst for breakfast. $10 bucks is still reasonable for a plate these days. read more

I tried to go have a breakfast today at nation burger I ordered a new omelette, which is ole omelette with cheese I asked the counter lady I would like to have English muffin with no butter I waited over 10 minutes First thing I look my muffin with full of butter I asked the counter lady, please toast me a English muffin with no butter No reaction from counter Lady I start having hash brown, hash brown, which was good I start having the omelette and noticed there's no green pepper ole only cheese I took omelette back to the counter. I told the lady if you read the ticket, it shows ole omelette not the cheese omelette She took the dish Back open up the omelette and put three slices of green chili in the cold and give me back without even apologize and saying sorry These people get paid well, but they don't understand what it's on the tickets slip Complain to the corporation from the QR that they give from the ticket No respond I will never go there to have a breakfast I'd rather go to Village Café in Orinda Much better read more

I asked him why he was being so rude to us, and he said WE were the ones who were rude! The guy was totally nuts. Someone thought he might be the owner but I don't know. He had an accent of some sort. Others in our group had experienced his rude behavior before. Anyway he's losing customers. We'll certainly never go back! I will mention that a second waiter (younger) who also helped us was very friendly and helpful. The grounds are so nicely landscaped and maintained and there really is a "mansion" feel to this place bc it is a mansion! It's amazing that that such a historical and fancy place is only 25 miles south of Sacramento in Walnut Grove in the Delta. Apparently, the Grand Island Mansion is the biggest private estate in NorCal. It was built in 1920 by Louis Myers, an orchard farmer, along with his wife Henrietta. They broke ground on 865-acre in 1917, so it took about 3 years to build. The Mansion has 58 rooms, all fancy and opulent, and was designed as a classic Italian Renaissance villa by renowned San Francisco architect J.W. Dolliver and is 4-story tall with 24,000-square-foot of space! In the roaring 20s, high society gathered here for gatherings and high-end wining & dining, and guests were all wealthy and famous local and even national figures to include Greta Garbo, Erle Stanley Gardner, and former President Franklin D. Roosevelt and President Ronald Reagan! During the Great Depression in the 1930s, the Myers family's fortunes also diminished a lot, so they had to sell off their orchards and sadly, the mansion as well. Since the Mansion changed hands several times, it was not kept up in the 1930s-40s. Thankfully, a local restauranteur, Frank Perese bought it in 1950 and put in a commercial kitchen to try to revive the Mansion to make it a destination for fine dining. Then from the 1970s, the Mansion became a special events venue, and weddings were hosted here beginning around 1980. In recent years, it has evolved into a luxurious location for weddings and events with a 14-seat private theater added, Italian gardens nicely maintained, and original artwork and lavish hotel rooms, all of which are really well kept to preserve this historical property and to keep it as a premier wedding and special occasions celebration destination. We really enjoyed attending our friends' wedding here and taking in all the sights and sounds of this grand mansion and may have to come back for brunch or tea in the future.

Two things make this place great, its comfortable hours, and its amazing food. It is the only restaurant in Orinda opened past 9 PM, and is open all the way till 1 AM on weekends!
