We came here as a group, with some of us ordering pastries and coffee and others ordering from the menu. Naturally, we all sat together but apparently that was a problem. The attitude from the staff was so noticeable you could practically cut it with a knife. I ordered potatoes with my toast and was brought a salad instead. I pointed it out immediately, right as the plate was being put down. I got an "I'll..." and the employee walked away, never to be seen again. No potatoes, no follow-up, no apology, nothing. Mistakes happen. What really made the experience unpleasant was the attitude and complete lack of effort to correct the mistake. When you're dining with a group, you expect basic courtesy and service, not to feel like you're inconveniencing the staff by sitting together. This review is for the takeout Family Meal: Easy called in order for the Fried Chicken meal for 4. The chicken was still in the fryer when I arrived early for my pickup time. The packed up sides arrived shortly afterwards. Chicken came out on a large aluminum tray and smelled great. Short drive home and we dug in. Chicken was crispy, piping hot, and tasty. The Yukon Gold puree/mashed potatoes were creamy and flavorful. The pasta salad was creamy and reminded me of Hawaiian Mac salad. The just-made mini waffles were really good. Dessert was a Marshmallow Brownie. Enjoyed the dinner- would be nice if there was an option to add a couple more pieces to the regular 10-piece entree because the chicken is so good. This business is a gem of Moraga! Wonderful food, coffee, pastries. Quality is great, service and the whole vibe. Scones and crossoints are our favorites. And for a meal, the taco salad. I brought my 11 year old and her friend here for lunch. We sat outside which was nice. It felt a little cold so we asked for the heat lamp to be turned on and they did it immediately. I ordered the cheeseburger and the girls order chicken tenders and fries. The burger was cooked as ordered (medium well) and was the perfect size, fresh toppings, and lots of flavor. The fries were ok.. I could have gone without them. The side salad was really good. It was so good that I plan to order a full size one next for. The girls devoured their food and said it was really good. I also had an iced tea, yum! It was freshly brewed which is the only way I like my iced tea. The girls had mango iced tea complete with a sugar rim. I took a sip and it wasn't too sweet. PARKING, SERVICE, VIBES This cafe is in a location with some other shopping and restaurants. There is enough parking on the street and in the lot. Cafe is pretty empty at 6pm on a Wednesday. The sign says "wait to be seated" but I was told to seat myself. I sat outside. They brought water promptly. They have a lot of outdoor seating and a fire pit (not lit when I was there). They don't have any tables fit for one or two-- they all have 4 chairs. Why 3 instead of 4? I was honestly on the fence about this. But they didn't check on me at ALL-- I'm talking 30 mins, nobody came by. I couldn't get their attention for the check because I was outside. I finally was able to when somebody came from inside to hand off a pickup order. Also, two sides were $17-- that's more than a whole pizza. I was shocked about the price. For two eggs and three sausages? That's $3.40 PER PIECE! FOOD The scrambled eggs were well seasoned. The chicken apple sausages were large-- like hot dog size. The matcha latte wasn't sweetened. I did find a piece of greenery in my matcha latte which I found odd as matcha is a powder. Why was there a chunk of greenery? Was it not washed well? I'm unsure. Overall it was a perfectly fine experience, perfectly fine food and atmosphere and service was prompt (until it wasn't). It's just 5min from Saint Mary's. They serve breakfast all day which I like. We love coming to Town Bakery & Cafe for Brunch and late lunch. Our favorite item on the menu, and which we nearly always order, is their pizza. Town Bakery & Cafe makes extremely fresh, delicious, and deceptively simple pizza. The crust is made from their own sourdough starter, and we love it so much, my partner and I have tried (unsuccessfully) to get the owners to give us some of it to take home. Today we split the pepperoni pizza, and it didn't disappoint: fresh, not too heavy or greasy, flavorful, a little spicy, with a sourdough crust of perfect texture and tanginess. They give you kitchen scissors to cut your pizza up with. And it's a good size for two to split without being stuffed. That the wait staff are helpful and the outdoor dinning area has some beautiful landscaping with pomegranate trees and lavender bushes is just another added bonus. read more

They were so accommodating to our party of 10, and made it comfortable to seat 1 child / high chair. The staff is also really friendly, and the pastries to buy from their bakery is a nice bonus to their regular served food! Stopped by on a whim when visiting family in the East Bay. After a rain-soaked excursion, the warmth, cleanliness and the friendly staffed made us feel welcome. The chai tea latte is spicy and foamy and the perfect sippable temp. TheEgg Brioche Breakfast Sandwich (veggie meat option) was divine. The smell of a freshly baked brioche bun was making me hungry before I even took a bite. And when I did, it was light and fluffy just the way it should be. In speaking to the manager, I found out that they bake them fresh daily and late at night. It made all the difference. Now the side I chose was the roasted potatoes, which were warm, crunchy and paired perfectly with a ketchup they served alongside. The Creekstone Farm Black Angus hamburger was cooked to requested (medium rare) and the shoestring fries were unexpectedly good. The Tarragon Chicken Breast sandwich is good; not overwhelmed by mayo, on a nice ciabatta roll. Server was attentive without being intrusive. Finished with an apple strudel; flakey with nice cinnamon flavored filling. Water's served room temperature, I would have liked an offer of ice for my cup. Menu is limited, but what we had was tasty. This is our second visit to Town Bakery & Cafe. As soon as you step inside you can feel like home. My favorite place for a good weekend brunch. Both coffee or tea are superb. Today we had a mimosa and a Vanilla Latte. But we were able to smell the spearmint tea from the table behind us. Our favorite dish it's the avocado toast. With the first bite you know this dish can only be described as comfort food. The sourdough bread is baked there every morning. The fresh crème has an amazing citrus flavor and the avocado is always perfect. This is a must try for sure. Today we ordered a croque madam with potatoes. To start with the brioche bread that is also baked every morning is super soft and has great flavor. The mustard is perfect it gives a sharp accent. The potatoes are simply delicious. Well seasoned and perfectly cooked. As a good homie place you are always received with a big smile. All the staff members are always ready to help and make your stay very comfortable. Stopped here for brunch and it was a great pick. It's a cute, cozy space with pretty indoor and outdoor seating and a great menu! We had their cappuccino which was great and a fresh made strawberry lemonade. I enjoyed the avocado toast which was delicious and served with a cheese spread and super fresh avocado. Love this local spot that supports farm to table fresh ingredients where the menu is based on the season. They have a bakery off to the side that has freshly baked goods and coffee. But I have to say, I love their lunch and dinner options. I got the lamb burger and it was to-die-for. Wonderfully cooked and moist with a really yummy yogurt dressing. The fiancé got the Wagyu burger. Alas, there is no photo because he bit into it right away. You'll have to take my word for it- it was a good burger. We enjoyed a freshly made slice of cheesecake for dessert. I noticed they even do family meals that a lot of people pre ordered and picked up. A close friend invited me to come here for lunch - since I had never tried it. I wanted to try the Avocado Toast but they were out of avocados. Since I was not very hungry and just wanted a small meal I ordered a beef slider from the kid's meal with fries for $9 (salad was an option but I was in the mood for fries). I was glad I was able to order from the Kid's menu since some restaurants don't allow adults to eat from the Kid's menu. It was just the right amount for my small appetite and it tasted wonderful. I finished it. My friend ordered the portobello mushroom sandwich with salad ($13.75) which she enjoyed. Located across from the Rheem Theater - it is easily spotted from all the outside umbrellas set up for outdoor eating. At 1pm or so - many of the outdoor seating was taken and thank goodness for the umbrellas as it provided much needed shade from the sun. Service was great and attentive - they stopped and asked us a few times if everything was okay. We stayed and chatted for a while - even our server said goodbye to us as he finished his shift. They also have a bakery section which I perused after our lunch. I had to try something for later since I was full and purchased a three pack of chocolate chip cookies for $3.75. I took my mom to lunch here today, and we left a bit disappointed. First off, when we ordered, we asked if there was an allergen in either of the dishes we were ordering. The server confidently answered no for the food I wanted, but needed to check for my mother. When she didn't come back, we assumed it was fine and waited for our food. Another person eventually came and placed my food in the center of the table, asking if we needed anything else. I replied yes, my mom's food. She looked baffled. The other server came back, and scrambling, said she'd be back-- they were making the fish and chips. We stopped her, since the order was actually for fish tacos. "Oh yeah... they're making it now..." and left us waiting for the time it took to make fish tacos. On to the food: my taco salad was a plus-- tasty and fresh. It was a generous serving, but for my taste could use more spice or more of the salsa that came on the side. That said, I'd happily order it again (probably to go). My mom's fish tacos, once they came, were underwhelming. They were under seasoned and kind of basic for the price. Especially since when I got home I realized that I was charged for the fish and chips which cost $5 more than the tacos! Other service issues, like not pouring our water, not offering iced tea refills, not checking on us to make sure food was okay, not smiling... I may be old school, but these things matter! Maybe we were there on an off day or something, but it was disappointing. Being in the F&B business for 15+ years everywhere from fine dining to sports bars, serving, bartending, and managing, I debated leaving this. I know it's a difficult job and I am sympathetic to those that do it. But the way I was treated for asking a simple question really bothered me. On my brief half hour lunch I yelped "sandwiches near me" and Town Bakery & Cafe was the closest so I thought I'd give it a shot. I went in and was sent to the counter where a gentleman with dark hair and facial hair was on the phone. When he finished the phone call I very simply asked, "Do you guys do deli sandwiches". His response "What is that"? Me. "What's a deli sandwich"? Him. "Do you see it on the menu"? Being in a federal uniform, nothing more was said. Enjoyed our first breakfast at Town Bakery & Café. Arrived around 8:30 and the restaurant was already about half full. Noticed the bakery display case right away with amazing looking breads and pastries. We should have ordered some to take home but forgot to ask when paying the bill. Will definitely buy something to go next visit. They have an expresso machine and full coffee bar but we stuck with regular coffee which was fine, although I prefer a darker roast. The staff did a nice job keeping our coffee cups full during the visit. I had their house specialty brioche French toast with berries, banana, whipped crème fraiche and ordered a side of their chicken apple sausage to share with the table. The french toast with fresh berries was fantastic and very filling. The chicken apple sausage was good, but more food than I needed, probably better to order in a combo meal than as an additional side. My wife and daughter both ordered the avocado toast with egg and it was nicely presented. Both enjoyed the fresh bread and avocado and were happy they added the egg for the very reasonable $1 incremental cost. The team service was friendly and helpful, with a nice balance of attentiveness while giving us time to visit. Will definitely come back for breakfast when we have a future opportunity to be in the Moraga area in the morning. read more

I went into the dining room instead. As the bakery offerings weren't listed on the menu, I checked the case and went with the chia seed parfait and the blue berry custard pastry. Sad to say that this place has gone downhill. We had to search for someone to see that we were here, although the place was almost empty. We were pretty disappointed to hear that there was no coffee (at a "cafe") because of the time of day. Really? What time do people stop drinking coffee? Our waitress was calling to us from quite a distance to ask how the food was and was generally unhappy (just like last time we were here). On top of that the bill starts tips at 18% and up and they stand over you when you have to sign (no pressure). read more
