Overall quality of all 3 dishes ordered were unfortunately lackluster. My dish was house pork fried rice. The flavor profile was fresh, yet lacked overall flavor and character. The only redeeming factor this dish had going for it was that the 3 protein sources [Chicken, Beef & Shrimp] all tasted fresh and were cooked perfectly. Unfortunately the flavor profile brought the dish to its knees. 6.5/10 The second dish was for my wife, she ordered the house lo mein. Her experience was not only extremely underwhelming but also disgusting. The oil in which her food was cooked, tasted dirty. Old oil or old food is what it tasted like, and she could not finish her meal. The flavor profile was also much like my own dish, nonexistent. Wife gave it 0/10 [Maybe a bit excessive, but not cooking in clean oil is ridiculous, amateur and overall insulting to the customer]. Do better. The 3rd and final dish was an appetizer consisting of 8 crab puffs for 10$. I'd say this is a fair price, IF they had been more substantial, however the puffs were quite small and skimpy in terms of the amount of crab puff filling you received in comparison to the crust. The flavor was amazing [despite a lack of filling] I found the filling to be creamy, rich and was by far the most flavorful and enjoyable part of the entire experience. In fact, I found myself wishing I had just bought more crab puffs instead of the actual entrees! That should tell you all you need to know. Crab puffs, despite being to die for in terms of flavor, lacked the overall size, having skimped out on the powerhouse filling, unfortunately bringing the overall rating from what would have been a 10/10, to a mere 6/10 at best. Overall experience: 4/10. Would NOT recommend. Much better and more consistent spots out there, worthy of the hard earned money you offer. read more

Despite having lived in Vancouver for the past 5 years, I had never actually stopped at this place. I drive by it all the time and it always looked really fun from the outside. But after moving to vancouver, I had found a Chinese restaurant that would deliver to my house and was closer, so for a while that was the only place I went. But then covid-19 happened. And the former place quit delivering to my home. I initially found this place on GrubHub but really don't like to utilize GrubHub unless I have to do the prices in the food not always showing up hot...so I figured I'd go old school and call in an order and pick it up in person. Before I go into what I ordered, I'd like to wax poetic briefly about Americanized Chinese food. I think you'll find that a lot of Chinese food places have lower Yelp ratings and they tend to have very polarized reviews. People either love the way they do it, or they hate the way they do it. And I believe this is because Americanized Chinese food is so hyper-regional in what is considered normal for takeout. For example, growing up in the southern part of the United states, it wasn't uncommon to see crawfish on a Chinese food menu or bourbon chicken. On the East Coast, General Tso is often called General Gao, ect. And even in the Pacific northwest, the same names are used for dishes that come out very differently from different kitchens. I say this, because a lot of reviews for this place are hyperspecific like that. People complaining that food is spicy for example. Posting pictures of what they believe sesame chicken should look like versus what they got etc. I think what I'm saying is that for a cuisine that at its core was adapted to American pallettes, it's not surprising to see such a wide view. That being said, I have eaten Chinese food all over the United States and parts of Canada and I really really enjoyed this place. If your order is over $38, they throw in a treat! Free crab rangoons. The crab rangoons were crispy and well fried without being too greasy. The cream cheese had a good flavor and wasn't too sweet. I ordered the house fried rice. I usually start off at a new place with house fried rice because despite being a very simple dish, a lot of places don't pull it off very well. Shen Chang pulled it off extremely well. For the price, there was a significant amount of fried rice. The proteins in the rice were large and juicy, and the rice was well seasoned without being one note. My partner ordered the Mongolian chicken. I generally dislike Mongolian chicken at most places as it is often extremely sweet. That was not the case here! When we opened the dish, a smell of chicken and black pepper wafted out and I was honestly surprised. The chicken had a little bit of spice to it and the sauce was very flavorful! We also ordered the pot stickers as an appetizer and they were very large and the dipping sauce was very good. I have to say that this will be my new go to Chinese place. Give it a shot. Ordered delivery yesterday and was some of the worst Chinese food we've ever had. Will start with the good: Packaged well, everything was separate so that nothing got soggy and the pork fried rice was really good. Now the bad. Sesame chicken is not what you'd expect from any other Chinese restaurant. It's sweet and sour sauce and a bag of sesame seeds. The chow mein tastes like old chicken noodle soup and the egg rolls are stuffed with I think the same chow mein (they were kind of soupy). They gave us free spring rolls, which normally would be a great thing but they were also gross. The only thing edible was the pork and we decided to make our own sauce to throw the chicken in. read more

Service was terrific and the waitress was very good at making sure we had anything we needed. Service gets 5 stars easily! Unfortunately I can't say the same about the food. We got chicken Lo Mien and it was least eatable. Not terrible, but far from being great tasting. We also got the chicken Chow Mien to compare the taste between the Lo Mien and Chow Mien? Unfortunately the Chow Mien wasn't quite as good as the Lo Mien was. It was eatable, but I never want to eat it again! We got the Ginger Beef and the beef with Oysters sauce. Unfortunately again the food wasn't good at all, in fact this was far nasty tasting then the Chow Mien even! Btw, these last orders we got to go and tried eating them at home. Neither my partner or I could stomach either one of these dishes. We also got fried shrimp and BBQ pork. Neither of these were very good either sadly. We ended up feeding the shrimp and BBQ PORK to our dogs and the dogs and the rest of the beef with oyster sauce and Ginger Beef went to our chickens to eat. Since we just couldn't eat any of it ourselves. Unfortunately still haven't found a descent Chinese restaurant anywhere around Camas or Vancouver, Wa.. We're spoiled I guess from the restaurant we have eaten at in Portland. Unfortunately a few of our favorite restaurants in Portland went out of business with the Pandemic destroying a lot of businesses not being able to service customers back then. Only a few that could make the change to order food for take out survive it seems! Fortunately our favorite Chinese restaurant in Portland survived that's near 181st and Division st. Called Lee's Garden. I really wish the Restaurants around Camas and Vancouver would learn to make better tasting food. When we go to Lee's, we buy a lot of Chinese food and bring a lot of it home to eat thru out the week. Not unusual for us to spend $300.00-$350.00 or more sometimes just on Chinese food at Lee's Garden alone! Make it worth the trip since it's a little bit of a drive over there from where we live closer to Fern Prairie! If restaurants around Camas and Vancouver had descent quality good tasting food. Then we spend more of our money in town. Only Resturant we found in the Camas area that's worth eating is a couple Thai restaurants or Pizza not too bad at a couple places. Although no one will ever beat Flying Pie pizza over in Portland off Stark st and roughly 88th ave. But Leanardo's pizza here in Camas not a bad choice for 2nd place! I hate leaving bad reviews, especially when the service from a waitress was top notch service to say the least! But I have to be honest and I hate to mislead anyone making the food sound better than it is! Another thing I notice with all the different dishes we got and brought home. All the dishes had the veggies cut very large as if it was Chow Yuk style and personally I don't care for chow yuk large vegetables. The beef with oyster sauce really didn't have any oyster sauce like I expected to see and taste. Overall it was on the bland side. We're use to Lee's Oyster Beef that's just drenched in the oyster sauce and it's got a delicious beefy flavor added into the oyster sauce too! Sadly, I'm not likely to go back to this Resturant again in the future since other then the service the rest wasn't a pleasant experience for our taste buds nor our tummies! My hopes is this Resturant among others around Camas and Vancouver will look into better recipes and work on making more delicious food where customers would enjoy coming back! I just their food delivered and if I knew it was going to be this, I wouldn't have opened the door. Their Chow Mein is separated, meaning the noodles are raw and not cooked with the rest of food, It's also flavorless. It's pretty hard to mess up chow mein, but this place found a way. I also ordered BBQ Pork and got a pile of burnt eggs with 5 pieces of unseasoned pork in it. Just terrible. New owners: Seems to me the prices have came down a bit and the portions have gotten bigger. Either way we are happy with it!! We used to be regulars back when it was Imperial Palace, 2 or 3x a month. Until the previous owners started serving less and charging more. This was our first night back and We have our family favorite spot back!! If you have a larger family as I do, then you know the importance of a restaurant that caters to each individuals choice. Dined in and was pleasantly surprised at how good our food was. Portion sizes are HUGE!! The to go boxes in my photos were our leftovers. The boxes couldn't even close. Everything was flavorful and tasted fresh. We ordered crab puffs and got another plate free of charge. The orange chicken tastes like they use orange juice in their sauce mixture. Crab puffs were nice and crispy. And if you're a picky water drinker like I am, their water is really good! It doesn't have a weird aftertaste like some other restaurants have. It would have been zero if that option was available, this used to be Imperial Palace, the food was great. Well not anymore! We have been there many times and more than not the food was bad but we kept giving it another chance, tonight I ordered and was hoping but was let down hard. The Gen Tso chicken was so hard we coulent even bite into it, the soup was very watery, we ordered Mar Far chicken which is supposed to be coated different, it wasn't and it was cooked to death also. They refused to make extra sauce for the Chowmein , the lady( been there long time) was rude, This was their last chance we will never go back. I ordered through Uber eats pretty close to their closing time without realizing it, they even had to stay late because the Uber eats driver was late due to the road conditions. My food was still hot and delicious when it arrived. The sesame beef was really tender and had lots of sauce which is what I prefer. The egg rolls had a great crunch to them with little to no grease at all, and came with an awesome dipping sauce. This is my first time at Shen Chang, and I'm grateful they stayed after hours and made me an incredible meal. I will definitely be back! read more

This was my first visit since this restaurant changed over to Shen Chang; I ordered take-out and it was ready promptly. When we got home we realized that the portions were more generous than we had expected and everything seemed to be of good quality. I was sooo disappointed..... and surprised!!! Previously, I had a good experience with Shen Chang. So, I decided to give it another try. I ordered the well rated daily special that included a choice of four items. I selected crab puffs, sesame chicken, BBQ pork and sweet sour chicken. The highly rated crab puffs were 3/4 fried wrap and 1 tsp of "crab". I typically enjoy crab puffs. I ate 2 after removed 3/4s (fried wrap) and tossed it. Next were 2 boxes of small-medium size. Upon opening, the contents looked identical. I'm convinced they were. A small piece of chicken deep fried in breading or dough of some sort. They tasted identical. A positive was the chicken was solid white meat, properly cooked & moist. Lastly was a very small box of thinly sliced (1/4" thick) pork. The pork was of good quality, sliced appropriately and cooked perfectly. Taste was bland. I looked for BBQ sauce or the equivalent . Nothing. A small thin packet (1"x1,25") of sesame seeds were included. I'm searching everywhere for sauce!! There were 2 packets of soy sauce and 3 containers of ketchup. I tasted each one seeking BBQ sauce. None, all 3 were ketchup.. Lastly, 2 very small containers of a yellow sauce was included. I thought mustard based something or other. I tasted then yelped. HOT! HOT! HOT! Nothing I ordered should have been hot. Last was a container-same size as used for deep fried chicken entrées of unknown identity. It was 1/2 full (a lot for a sauce) of pinkish-red sauce. I assume this was sweet and sour sauce. No rice. No veggies. Four bland items that , for me, did not match the name of the dish's I ordered, with the exception of the crab puffs. I could identify the crab puffs by elimination. Although they did not look like any other crab puff I've had in the past - folded differently allowing for too much wrap and not enough filling. I was very hungry when I ordered. I went to bed hungry and unhappy. I will order from Shen Chang again, because my first experience of their food was tender flavorful beef and broccoli. The best I've ever had! However, the accompanying pork fried rice was so dry I couldn't eat it. Both orders were placed close to closing time. Maybe the rice was dry because it was the last bit of the day. A fresh batch of fried rice would have earned them a 5 star review for my first order - certainly worth the extra effort.. I do HOPE my latest order of the 4 item daily special was an exception - a rare error sent before completely, properly packaged. If there was no mistake then I can not recommend this restaurant at all. I will order again but will not try anything new. I'll stick with the beef and broccoli. I hope the rice is better. The ironic thing is I'd never had sesame chicken, sweet sour chicken or Chinese BBQ pork before. My first experience with the restaurant was so positive I decided to try something new. Would give more stars because food is actually good, but the attitude of our server left a lot to be desired. We figured our server might have been having an off day the first time we went, and tried again a second time with the same bad attitude. Finally, after the third time, we decided we were done. Didn't even finish our drinks. As we waited for service, some regulars came in and when we asked our waitress if she was having a bad day. She said no, but that she was concerned about getting the other couple their drinks in a timely fashion. My wife and I just looked at each other in disbelief. Even though the name has changed as well as owners, the food and recipes seem to have remained the same. Huge portions at reasonable prices are the norm. Pay for one meal and get enough for two meals. I've been coming in here since before it was a Chinese restaurant in the early 1970's. It's had three different owners in that time and the recipes haven't changed much over the decades. If we still lived in Vancouver it would be a regular dinner stop for me. read more

I really think there should be an option to give zero stars because sometimes places like this do not even meet the standards for one star. My husband decided to order from here for our late lunch. He ordered 2 soups , crab wontons, sesame chicken and honey walnut shrimp. They sent a container of sweet and sour sauce so there was no sauce for his sesame chicken. I just assumed the order was messed up no big deal. So I called and asked if I could just come in and pick up the correct sauce since some places leave sauce on the side. The lady proceeded to start arguing with me about how the sesame chicken already has sauce. So I explained that the chicken is not sauced and that we got sweet and sour sauce instead. She then argued that sesame chicken comes with red sauce. We order Chinese food quite often and we have never had sesame chicken come with 'red sauce' aka sweet and sour so I just hung up out of frustration because I was getting no where with this lady. My husband called and attempted to sort this out. And finally told her that she just needs to update her menu because they pretty much have sweet and sour chicken on their menu twice. Thankfully grub hub refunded him for his chicken but thats still another 45 dollars wasted. He was so pissed he threw all of his food out because it was just disgusting. The Mongolian Beef did not taste like any Mongolian beef I have ever had, after reading the description, I could see it did indeed include green bell peppers. I have an allergy to them. Who puts green bell peppers on Mongolian beef? The pot stickers were also inedible, they had a fishy taste about them. I call to tell them they sent me half my order wrong, they first say we were out of low mein then I had said okay then why haven't you guys called me and told me that then the lady proceeded to tell me I ordered wrong when I didn't, I ordered the same thing I ordered the last time. It was a total waste of time and just a bunch of BS!! The chow mein they sent me instead of the low mein was total garbage!! And their pork fried rice tasted wayyy off this time!! I was totally disrespected and it was not okay at all!!! I will NOT be ordering from them again!!!
