    House Chow Mein

Classic Chinese cuisine. Even the ambience spoke to the traditional vibe of American Chinese restaurants. Friendly service as they checked in on me a few times. Thank you!

    House fried rice, to go

Despite having lived in Vancouver for the past 5 years, I had never actually stopped at this place. I drive by it all the time and it always looked really fun from the outside. But after moving to vancouver, I had found a Chinese restaurant that would deliver to my house and was closer, so for a while that was the only place I went. But then covid-19 happened. And the former place quit delivering to my home. I initially found this place on GrubHub but really don't like to utilize GrubHub unless I have to do the prices in the food not always showing up hot...so I figured I'd go old school and call in an order and pick it up in person. Before I go into what I ordered, I'd like to wax poetic briefly about Americanized Chinese food. I think you'll find that a lot of Chinese food places have lower Yelp ratings and they tend to have very polarized reviews. People either love the way they do it, or they hate the way they do it. And I believe this is because Americanized Chinese food is so hyper-regional in what is considered normal for takeout. For example, growing up in the southern part of the United states, it wasn't uncommon to see crawfish on a Chinese food menu or bourbon chicken. On the East Coast, General Tso is often called General Gao, ect. And even in the Pacific northwest, the same names are used for dishes that come out very differently from different kitchens. I say this, because a lot of reviews for this place are hyperspecific like that. People complaining that food is spicy for example. Posting pictures of what they believe sesame chicken should look like versus what they got etc. I think what I'm saying is that for a cuisine that at its core was adapted to American pallettes, it's not surprising to see such a wide view. That being said, I have eaten Chinese food all over the United States and parts of Canada and I really really enjoyed this place. If your order is over $38, they throw in a treat! Free crab rangoons. The crab rangoons were crispy and well fried without being too greasy. The cream cheese had a good flavor and wasn't too sweet. I ordered the house fried rice. I usually start off at a new place with house fried rice because despite being a very simple dish, a lot of places don't pull it off very well. Shen Chang pulled it off extremely well. For the price, there was a significant amount of fried rice. The proteins in the rice were large and juicy, and the rice was well seasoned without being one note. My partner ordered the Mongolian chicken. I generally dislike Mongolian chicken at most places as it is often extremely sweet. That was not the case here! When we opened the dish, a smell of chicken and black pepper wafted out and I was honestly surprised. The chicken had a little bit of spice to it and the sauce was very flavorful! We also ordered the pot stickers as an appetizer and they were very large and the dipping sauce was very good. I have to say that this will be my new go to Chinese place. Give it a shot. I can't wait until the interior opens again so I can check out the lounge.

This their sesame chicken...sweet and sour sauce + a bag of sesame seeds

Ordered delivery yesterday and was some of the worst Chinese food we've ever had. Will start with the good: Packaged well, everything was separate so that nothing got soggy and the pork fried rice was really good. Now the bad. Sesame chicken is not what you'd expect from any other Chinese restaurant. It's sweet and sour sauce and a bag of sesame seeds. The chow mein tastes like old chicken noodle soup and the egg rolls are stuffed with I think the same chow mein (they were kind of soupy). They gave us free spring rolls, which normally would be a great thing but they were also gross. The only thing edible was the pork and we decided to make our own sauce to throw the chicken in.

Sesame chicken , not really but what do they know about making sesame chicken?!

I ordered food via Uber eats. Everything was good until I saw what I thought I ordered was sesame chicken. I've been to many Chinese restaurants and even googled what sesame chicken was again to make sure I'm not ignorant and what I received was not sesame chicken. I called to complain but the young gentleman on the phone just brushed my complaint off. Sorry I don't give bad reviews out like candy but I had to give this place one. Here's what Sesame Chicken is suppose to look like via this link. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sesame_chicken

I just their food delivered and if I knew it was going to be this, I wouldn't have opened the door. Their Chow Mein is separated, meaning the noodles are raw and not cooked with the rest of food, It's also flavorless. It's pretty hard to mess up chow mein, but this place found a way. I also ordered BBQ Pork and got a pile of burnt eggs with 5 pieces of unseasoned pork in it. Just terrible. Update: I was told by someone at the restaurant that if you want chow mein cooked properly, meaning with noodles and apparently seasonings, you have to ask for it. ‍

    This is Sesame Chicken? NOT

Would be nice to provide the correct food you ordered. Hard to check during COVID! The place was Uber busy on the Friday night. They said 20 minutes and we waited 40. Not that big a deal as I am glad to see they are doing well during this time. But we got chicken nuggets for our Sesame Chicken! Could have gone to McD's for these and ordered enough for days at that price. Very disappointed and too much work to go back and wait and argue.

    Egg foo young?
    Brenda M.

Absolutely the worst egg foo young I have ever been served... I looked like they threw all of the left overs in a blender with an egg and called it good.. There's things in this that just don't belong in this dish. Since when does one add soggy "fried noodles" to egg foo young?

New owners: Seems to me the prices have came down a bit and the portions have gotten bigger. Either way we are happy with it!! We used to be regulars back when it was Imperial Palace, 2 or 3x a month. Until the previous owners started serving less and charging more. This was our first night back and We have our family favorite spot back!! If you have a larger family as I do, then you know the importance of a restaurant that caters to each individuals choice. The service has greatly improved since our last visit. Our server was extra awesome!!

General tso's, comes with steam white rice.

Super nice staff. Good portions for the money. Good food. Convenient location. Not a whole lot of parking but we usually order to go.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Absolutely terrible. Every dish was trash. $60 down the drain. Buyer beware.

Hands down my favorite Korean Chinese fusion spot in the greater Portland area!! Pan + Grill K…read moreFusion serves the best black bean noodles I've had around here - rich, savory, and full of that unmistakable wok hei flavor. The pork belly is high quality and they don't skimp on the veggies. Their tangsuyuk is another standout, perfectly crispy even when coated in sauce, which is no easy feat (if you know, you know). The wasabi shrimp has a unique, addictive flavor with just the right amount of crunch. And the kimchi burger? Thoughtfully crafted with a soft brioche bun, a juicy, flavorful patty, and kimchi that really pops. Beyond the food, the hospitality makes the experience even better. Sam and the staff are incredibly warm and attentive. They are happy to offer recommendations, check in throughout your meal, and always greet you with a smile. If I lived closer, I would be there all the time, especially to take advantage of their lunch specials. If you are in the area, this place is an absolute must try, especially since they are always updating the menu with new dishes to try!

I didn't give it a 5 star because I was a bit disappointed with how little protein they add to their ganjjajang. First time I ordered the pork and then I ordered the seafood on another visit. The taste was amazing and authentic but I was disappointed with the pork because they give you like 6 pieces of pork and there is tiny fried pieces as well but the size of a scab lol. I love the big pieces of veggies in it but it's sad they can't do the same with the protein. Now with the seafood version it was the exact same thing very little protein but mountain of veggies except this time the zucchini was so tiny while they gave me giant blocks of onions again I don't mind that but it's all disproportionate. Nothing to what I have had at different Korean spots in Arizona. Everything else is amazing like their fried rice or bulgogi burgers. Their tteokboki is alright it's a niche type of dish so it won't be for everyone. It was more sweet than I like but that's just a me thing. Service was great and the ambiance was chill, quiet and cozy. We will still be returning just maybe will stop ordering the jajamyeon unfortunately.
