Staff wasn't friendly at all and the bar itself is tiny and leaves much to desire. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.

This place will provide your GI tract with Shenanigans. Let me explain. 4 of us went there on Sunday night. Pretty quiet. The bouncer was pleasant, and actually helped us get our drinks. Although he made fun of us for only ordering 2 drinks for 4 guys. He only had 2 hands, so the drinks came in 2 trips in his 2 hands (4 drinks). We were all confused. We ordered food from the bartender who seemed pretty irritated that we existed and were in the bar he was running. 3 pork sandwiches with a burger, and a bacon cheese burger. The pork sandwiches arrived without the burger. But, OK, we still ate it. We probably got billed for the more expensive meal, but Oh well. And this is Sunday, and we are literally a quarter of the people in the bar, I think we are old enough to drink out of glasses instead of plastic cups. Guinness came in a glass, everything else, in a plastic cup. The tater tots were spot on, and a good portion too. That was nice. However, the aftereffects of this meal are still hitting 3 of us that had the pulled pork. I was awakened at 3am with a bodily challenge to see how fast I could get to the bathroom before I hurled. This was followed up with a 8am sprint to find out how fast I could get to the toilet. I checked in with my other 3 friends, and they all had the same issue. Dive bar? Yep. I came on a Friday night 1-2am. Music here was great! It's a crowd of 22-30 year olds dancing, having a crazy fun time. The bar was somewhat slow, but being as busy as it was, I was OK with it. While I was at the bar, there was a fight that resulted in one person being kicked out by being thrown down the stairs. The guy was out of hand DEFINITELY but I do think this could have been handled better. I was glad there was no cover! Will be back. read more

This place is always buzzing specially on weekends. You will find a lot of young, college going people here . The atmosphere is amazing and they do play loud music like in dance clubs and have tvs showing football and soccer like any other sports bar or irish pub which makes it a combination of both a dance club plus an irish club. Gail is the best bar tender here. All the rest of the bar tenders are good too. You won't have to keep waiting for you drink . Overall it's a very good place to be on weekends. read more

Shenanigans gets two stars rather than one because it's cheap as hell and you can get hammered for just $10 in the heart of Adams Morgan. Unfortunately, the atmosphere is not conducive to actual shenanigans, as it is tiny and there is no dance floor. Also, the bartender on the ground floor is a very rude, possibly emotionally disturbed, person. He muttered derogatory remarks about my friend under his breath and screamed at me for using the term "yo" to get his attention. It's a shame he let his personal problems ruin so many people's night. read more

This place is pretty pretty pretty..... fantastic and not just because 'shenanigans' has some of the best prices on 18th St. Whether the bar just opened its doors or I'm stopping by in the minutes before last call, I always have a blast. I live down the street so I might be bias but I've been living in the Amo area for nearly a decade and I stands by the bar. While it has changed names more times then I could hope to remember (most recently Draft Pix, Leaky Faucet, and McNasty's)..... in its current form (shenanigans Irish pub) it definitely (in my mind at least)remains the best dive/overall bar in Adams Morgan. The tattoo'd bartender ('Gil' (i think?!?) is key in making sure you leave happy. That being said, the whole staff (from bouncer to DJ) are f-ing fantastic. woot WOOT read more

I was there over St. Patricks day, it had pretty damn good irish stew and my friend said the corn beef and cabbage was also very good. The drinks were cheap and we had a great time at the bar. This pub looks like any other pub. When I walked in, I didn't expect anything special. An all you can drink 2 hour span, a decently stocked bar, a crowd that's not too big. It was like any other pub, and I used to live in Boston so I know about Irish pubs. But that's a metaphor for life - you expect it to be great, you hope that it's great, but really you'll be happy with contentment. But then you're reminded that life is with living because of pleasant surprises. Pleasant surprises are different. They're unique. They're special. They're not spectacular. They're pleasant. They're pleasant because they are unexpected and they are appreciated. And they're appreciated because of those most human of things - personal contact and relationships. Lauren achieved that personal contact and made it all worth it. A great bartender who worked well under pressure and delivered. I asked her to make me a shot that tasted like pancakes and she did. A shot that tastes like Twix and she did. Like Mexican hot chocolate brewed on the hills of Monterrey and she did, and hers was better. Thanks for the drinks. Thanks for the service. Was standing on line for the bathroom on a crowded Friday night, minding my own business, when a male employee I had never seen before came out of no where, grabbed me by the neck and started pushing me towards the backdoor claiming he had already told me to leave. I attempted to protest as I think he mistook me for someone else but it was to no avail. I was shoved into an alley and had the door slammed in my face. Can not believe an employee would treat a patron this way, definitely will not be returning. read more

I went in because I'm new in town and had seen good reviews online. I figured I'd go to someplace that seemed fun for my birthday. I guess I got there too early because the place was dead when I got there. No problem---it would make it easier to get a drink, right? No. I sat at the bar for a while without the bartender ever turning from his inventory to take either my order or the order of the guy who came in after me. While we were sitting there we both caught the stench of vomit. No idea where it came from....I did end up going to the bathroom and it wasn't coming from there, but it was more than a little off putting. Eventually a lot of people came in for the "all you can drink" deal....the bar tender and bouncer never mentioned it to me, not that it seemed like that great a deal....and it seemed like a lot of people got lured in by the promise of "lots of booze for not a lot of money" only to realize it was for cheap yellow beer and cheap well liquor. The only bonus was that the bar tender was nice enough to give me directions to the closest bus top that would get me back to a metro station. read more

I'd love to give this place 5 stars because outside of the one reason I have against it, it's a good place to go to. Good drink specials and nice atmosphere. My one and only complaint should be a top priority of this place. The dj is absolutely horrendous, there's close to no point of him being there. He does 0 blending of each song to the next and will just stop a song of one genre to go to a drastically different genre the next song. His ability is less than someone I'd expect to be in the beginning stage of dj'ing because at least they would put some effort in. Really this establishment should be embarrassed to be paying this dj to represent them. read more

Well, I would like to write a review of what this place was like but I can't because I never made it in. My friends and I were going to start our St. Pat's day celebration here but when I got to the front door the bouncer tried to say that my license was a fake and that it's "missing" one of the holographic images. Now I travel domestically all the time for work and TSA without fail always accepts my license. I have been to several federal buildings including one of DHS' training centers and my license was accepted. Oh and every other bar in the city has accepted my license without fail in the four years I have lived in D.C. Lastly, after checking with the Florida DMV, they also verified that my license is valid. So how the Shenanigans bouncer thinks that my license is missing something and everyone else has yet to discover this is beyond me. And I hate to play the race card but as my friends pointed out (the friends I was with were all white) inside the bar there were only white people there not another person of color, with the exception of the bouncer. So take that for what's its worth. It's a shame too because I did really want to check the place out and we had about a group of 30 people so that was business they did not get to enjoy that night that other bars on the 18th street strip gladly accepted. read more
