Sheng kee never fails me. I love this place. I always stop by to get the hot dog cheese bun and depending on my mood, the bbq pork bun or the red bean bun for lunch the next day. The total cost for my lunch is less than $3, and it tastes delicious!! I also love the consistency from location to location in their taste and pricing. Sheng Kee is one of those places where you can purchase buns and pastries in such a way where you pile whatever you want on a tray, and pay up at the counter. If you are lucky, you can get the ones that come fresh out the oven. However, this location is not the most popular, so they probably don't produce fresh ones that often. The buns are soft, fluffy, and decent tasting. I once got a curry pastry to try. I would advise against it. It was more dry than a mouthful of sand. All in all, I would probably come back here if I was ever in the plaza. However, I would not go out of my way to come here, and I most certainly not consider these pastries instagram worthy! read more

This place is pricy, more expensive than getting the same stuff from ranch 99. On top of that, there were flies among the pastries. I picked one pastry (one with white cream inside), the bread was stale / hard, you can tell it has been sitting there for a whole day. The cream was so sweet that I had to stop eating right away. Got 2 egg custards 1.09 each - one for me, and one for my dad. After having noodles at QQ Noodles, and jasmine milk tea from T4 a couple storefronts down, with a friend It was great. It was around 1pm on a Monday afternoon, and there was no line. Worth the lack of wait, definitely. Also, decently-priced, nothing special. The custard itself, had good consistency; the custard yellow, and the tart flaky. We've been to this bakery many times to purchase breakfast stuff, but today we met something truly ridiculous: when passing the store, my son suddenly got a bloody nose, while I don't have any paper with me, I went into the store asking for a piece of tissue paper. I'm speechless when it comes to ShengKee cakes and pastries. I mean, my English vocabulary is so limited when describing these soft breads, crispy pastries or smooth cake fillings. I don't come often, but every time I do, I'm very satisfied with their delicious desserts. The down side, some of the cakes don't sell as fast. Strawberry half sheet cake in pink, 5-stars for a great tasting cake! At an angle, the cake was kinda not level on one side but no one could tell. The cake person was not available when I walked in to order the cake so there was a misunderstanding... I just wanted a pink cream cake with no design, I did get that, but what happened was the cream was white when made and then later sprayed as pink. The lady at the counter said it would've been an extra $4 or so but she didn't charge me for it. It was a fancier request than what I wanted. Either way, some spots on the cake was a streaky pink (look at picture) and not too even but no one was looking too closely anyways. The lady who helped me was funny though cause she was like no design? I said nope. She said a half sheet is a big cake, and I laughed and said I know! I'll figure it out, cause I didn't have a theme for the birthday party, just know I wanted a pink cake, haha! What I really wanted was a confetti cake (inspired by Pinterest) but they didn't do that so I bought my own edible confetti on Amazon for $10 cause I couldn't find it at Target. First time here. Service, food and drinks were all bad. Crappy to say the least. No plans to come back here again. The two girls working here were straight up rude. And was bad enough that the restroom did not have toilet paper. We ordered a coffee an ice drink and a little slice of cake that tasted like crap. Their ice drink also tasted like crap, very bitter. The girl got irritated at me when I asked her where the fork was because they didn't Provide a utensil with my cake and I couldn't see any utensils anywhere. She was very irritated that I asked her a question. I had to ask her again because she wouldn't give me a utensil to eat the cake with. Turns out it's these little kiddie spoons that you taste-test ice cream with at ice cream shops, that's what I was supposed to eat my cake with. The two girls were even talking about my friend and I afterwards and snickering. My friend had a question later so she decided to ask the one guy working there instead of the two rude girls, and he seemed helpful but then the other girl came and started berating him about us in whatever language she was speaking- right in front of us and he just smiled at her and ignored her and helped my friend anyway. Maybe their employees need to worry about keeping this place clean and organized and serve some good tasting products instead of talking shit about their customers in front of their faces in another language. read more

Sorry, it should have been lower, zero stars. The customer service is really bad. We are buying sliced of cake - Macademia, but the cashier does not know the name of the cake we are buying. They also never say hello to us or try to accommodate us when we came in and checking for their cakes, which is unusual among Cafe. This place must be good if I'm willing to drag myself out of San Jose to Milpitas. Not only does this bakery make good bread and cakes, but they make sandwiches too, perfect for a quick lunch. There's always so much too choose from it's hard to know where to start. Egg tarts, raisin bread, mooncakes, it's carb euphoria. This is a quite small shop with a wide selection of bubble tea. I got an espresso bubble tea, which i had never experienced before... I don't recommend it. My friend got the strawberry which was pretty good and my sister had a sweet tea one, which was the best. There wasn't much of a selection in terms of baked goods, but we had a few of the smaller cookies with jam in them. They were very aesthetically pleasing, but my mouth couldn't appreciate that. I came in here for mother's day cake and they have a variety of choices that you can pick. I hand picked the fruit tart only because my mom usually eats fruits instead of sweets and coffee flavor are no bueno for her. The employees there were nice enough to give me a plastic "happy mother's day" label on my cake even though I didn't asked. My gf told me to try the egg tarts and usually I find them too sweet to eat, but it's always worth a try since I've heard many good reviews for this place. So cute! I love the look of this -- it's akin to 85c but I can definitely say the patties are of higher quality as well as a much lower price. My boyfriend got me a delicious black forest cake here for my birthday, and I just want to say that if you are not familiar with Asian cakes, you are in for a real treat. Sheng Kee is always a preferred stop after a nice lunch or dinner in Milpitas Square. They make excellent small pineapple cakes similar in quality to those found in Taiwan. I also love their Portugese Dan Ta (egg tart)...just right with a slightly browned top - Much better than the heavy Cantonese Dan Ta version. The also have many smaller items to select, many of which are good. I'm not a fan of their Japanese Cheesecake. While it looks like a cheesecake, it's more like a cake than cheesecake, without much flavor. I do, however, plan to try others when the time is right...that is...when I can get away with buying an entire cake. read more

I was browsing around this shop because I was craving carbs. Walked around the shop and the owner was busy talking to another customer. I spotted a slice of bread with mold and brought it to the counter at one of the registers. The owner quickly scolded me and said to bring the pastry down. She said "$1.75" to which I replied "I'm not interested in buying, I'm just showing you the piece of mold that is growing on your bread" She quickly apologize and I left the store. Very fresh and tasty Asian pastries. We had the paper cup cake, coconut roll, and taro twist. I especially enjoyed the taro twist as it had just the right amount of taro to dough ratio. When I'm in the area will definately go back to this place. read more

I was craving for tiramisu today and specifically asked my husband to go get it for me at Sheng Kee. For years Sheng kee tiramisu has been my favorite. I get cakes here all the time for birthdays and other occasions in my family. I'm so disappointed with the one we purchased tonight. It is OLD, DRY and NASTY. This cake must be a very old one. The cake is no longer moist and frosting has turned hard. I sliced the cake into thin pieces like bacon to show how hard and dry it has become. We go to Sheng Kee for more pricey cakes and expect them to be quality ones. However, Sheng Kee is willing to sale an old cake to their customer and ruin their reputation instead of throwing away old cakes. That cake should have been in the dumpster, not being sold for any customer who is willing to pay $22 for a tiny cake. read more

I like the cakes from Sheng Kee. It is moist, light, soft, and not too sweet. It is just perfect for me. For me it is the best.

I am giving this Sheng Kee 4 stars because they are SOOOO much better than the Cupertino Village one (they are awfully RUDE!!) but that aside the workers at ALL Shengkee aren't the social type. Striking a convo with the lady would be more of a challenge than passing the BAR exam. I can only review the Portuguese Egg Tart. After having dinner at Pepper Lunch, i just wanted a nice dessert. So I walked into Sheng Kee Bakery and the Egg Tart looked decent. My first bite was just of the pastry crust and I thought it was ok. It wasn't until I bit into the actual custard part that I was disgusted. It was mushy and just didn't seem well cooked. Husband had a cheerful demeanor. 3. price was very reasonable. and without any compromises to taste. 8" round cake was $22 (cappuccino cake) In fact i loved the cake more than some I have eaten from "La Patisserie", and "Sugar Butter Flour" (which are the 2 places we get to eat from a lot mostly in parties). And the price was much less. So far have tried and loved the mouse cakes (strawberry, lemon, etc) and the cappuccino cake.
