    Burnt Basque Cheesecake
    Chris C.

Every time we stop by mall, grabbing a few tarts from here is pretty much a must! The tarts are always amazing, even if they're a little on the pricey side. This time we switched it up and tried the fluffy original (burnt) cheesecake and it did not disappoint! There's usually a line whenever we come, but we got lucky today and walked right up. Funny enough, the line started forming right behind us. I still haven't worked my way through the other flavors yet, but the original tart and the classic cheesecake are both solid picks and hard to beat.

Uncle Tetsu is located inside the Valley Fair Mall. They sell Japanese-Style Cheesecakes, Cheese Tarts, Basque Cheesecakes, and Cheesecake Biscotti. You'll find flavors such as strawberry, pandan, ube, oreo, matcha and black sesame. I've tried their Cheesecakes and Cheese Tarts: they're a bit pricey but such delicious treats! I actually prefer their Cheese Tarts over the Cheesecakes. The unique flavors make them more special!

There are places that eliminate choice entirely. Uncle Tetsu is one of them. I can walk through the mall with a plan, a purpose, and a full stomach, and I still cannot pass by without stopping. It is not possible. This time I went with the black sesame cheese tart, and it was exactly what I wanted. Light, airy, and delicately sweet, with that earthy, nutty depth from the sesame that keeps everything balanced. It adds complexity without weighing the cake down, staying true to Uncle Tetsu's signature soufflé-like texture. It is rich without being heavy, indulgent without being overwhelming. The kind of dessert you finish feeling satisfied rather than regretful, which is rare in a mall setting. Uncle Tetsu knows its lane and executes it beautifully. I will continue to pretend I have self-control, and Uncle Tetsu will continue to prove me wrong.

There's historically been long lines wrapping around this Uncle Tetsu location at the Valley Fair mall, but I was able to find a shorter line on a weekday afternoon. I opted for a plain cheesecake to share with friends. I love the Japanese cheesecake style for its airiness, softness, and just the right amount of sweetness. Each bite almost gives a melting texture in the mouth, and there's a subtle creamy flavor that I love. The price is decent for the amount of cheesecake that you get, and I'd say the cake is great as a birthday cake for anyone who loves a delicate, Japanese-style cheesecake!

I came to get Ube cookies for dessert. The store doesn't give a bag for cookies, only the cake. I thought that was odd. Thankfully I had a bag that I can use to carry my cookies to go. I always get something with Ube when I come to this store.

It's hard not to compare this Uncle Tetsu to the one in Japan. Definitely, the price is so much higher. It's the US and Bay Area prices baby!! Located in the second floor of the Westfield mall. No lines. Service is good. The Japanese cheesecake cake is almost the same. Tastes a little heavier , just slightly but still good. Tried their other specialty, their shortbread Ube cookies. Pretty soft and tasty. Would came back again when I crave it. [125R,2025]

No line at all on a Friday night! They raised their prices to $16. Light, fluffy, and not too sweet. We always grab 1-3 cakes when we come to valley Faire. We got the original today, but all of the flavors are good.

I've been dying to try Japanese cheesecake and was very excited to stumble upon this place! Staff was friendly and the Oreo cheesecake lived up to everything I dreamed of! The cheesecake was fluffy and delicious. I can not wait to come again and try their burnt basque cheesecake!

I usually get the original Japanese cheesecake at Uncle Tetsu in Westfield Valley Fair and it is always consistent. The texture is light, soft, and fluffy, and it has a mild sweetness that never feels too heavy. It's a must to come here when you go to the mall!

First time ordered the cheese tarts from Uncle Tetsu and it was ok. I was also comparing them to Baked in Japan and it just wasn't the same. Plus 1 cheese tart for $4.50 was a little steep to me, but I bought 3 regardless because if you buy three, it's packed in a box and comes with a bag. If you buy 1-2 the tarts are in a small paper sleeve. From favorite to least favorite: Ube, Cheese, Black Sesame

    Pandas Coconut Japanese Cheesecake

I haven't been to Uncle Tetsu in so long! I'm genuinely always surprised that each cheesecake is only $15 but I guess it doesn't take many ingredients to make and the portion sizes at the end of the day are not a lot. I came 15 minutes before closing time and I was surprised they still had all their flavors available which is great. I ordered the Pandan Coconut Cheesecake and I thought it was pretty good. I ate a lot of these Japanese sponge cake esque items in NYC and I think that both are pretty comparable as this was also pretty moist. I wish the pandan flavor was a bit stronger though. Overall great dessert option to share among friends while at Valley Fair.

$15 for a whole fluffy Japanese cheesecake is a pretty good deal in my opinion! I got the pandan coconut cheesecake since I love anything pandan and really enjoyed it. The coconut flavor was very apparent but I do wish the pandan flavor was a little stronger. It was also a bit on the sweet side for me, moreso than the original flavor. Quick service at the grab and go stand in Valley Fair Mall, located in a pretty crowded area of the mall near a lot of other Asian food (Shihlin Taiwanese snacks, Ramen Nagi, Marugame Udon, etc). I would love to try some of their other flavors, but don't have occasions to buy whole cakes super often- I wish they had a sampler set and/or sold pieces by the slice.

I usually like Cheesecake Factory but sometimes it's too rich. I heard good things about Uncle Tetsu so I decided to try their plain cheesecake. It's not heavy, not too sweet with a spongy texture. 15.00 for the cheesecake and it comes in a little box and a bag. These make good gifts.

    They are on DoorDash.

Why did they stop selling the chocolate cheesecake? Will it be coming back on the menu anytime soon?

Hello! Right now we are not selling the chocolate cake. We do rotate our flavors so please follow us on Instagram to stay up to date with new offerings and flavors :)

Are there burnt basque cheesecakes available at opening at 11am? Is it possible to pre-order for 11am pick up? Also what time are the cheese tarts available?

For the tarts, is it only available mixed in one box or can I buy all cheese flavor in one box? Was able to buy all cheese before but went yesterday and they said they only sell mixed/all flavors in one box :(

Hi Van, our cheese tarts are available in the mixed flavors or in the original flavor. Hope this helps!…

What kind of berry is used for the very berry cheesecake?

Hi May, our Very Berry Cheesecake has raspberries and cranberries. Please note that this is a seasonal flavor that was only available for a limited time. Thanks!

I see that the store hour is 11AM-9PM but the earliest time slot for online order pick up is 12PM. If I went to the store by 11AM instead of ordering ahead, would all the flavors be available for purchase?

Our team continues to bake into the morning after opening. It is best to wait until 12pm if you are looking for a specific flavor. Thanks!

We plan on having it until the end of June :)

How long can the cheesecake stay out of the fridge?

Hi Dan, the cheesecake can stay out of the fridge for at most a few hours. Then it can last in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Do you have any gluten-free options?

Hi Masako, We apologize, but we currently do not have any gluten-free options.

Do you have anything that's vegan?

None of our menu items are vegan at this time.

    Are the basque cheesecakes keto?

None of our cakes are keto at this time. Thank you!

Can I buy the cheesecake early and eat a few days later or does it have to be eaten day of?

You can purchase the cake prior and eat it a few days later. The cake will keep best if it is stored in the fridge.

Is there a separate pickup line if you order ahead of time online?

Yes - there is a separate line for online orders.

For online order pickup, can I designate someone else to pick up the order, or does it have to be the person whose name is on the order?

PASTRIES/BAKED GOODS: 9/10 I love their pastries and baked goods! I honestly haven't had anything that was a miss for me, whether it's savory or sweet. Everything I've tried has been delicious. FOOD/MEALS: 8/10 As for their meals, I thought they were good, but not quite as memorable as the pastries. I ordered the avocado toast, and while it was hearty and generously loaded, I felt like there was just a little too much going on. Both the salad and the toast were dressed a bit too heavily for my taste. COFFEE: 8/10 I also really enjoy their coffee. My go-to is the Latte Einspänner, and it pairs perfectly with their pastries. The place was situated in a quiet plaza just outside of Lawrence Expressway. There's ample parking but it doesn't feel like the location is suitable for a cafe where you can picture sitting inside looking through some big windows facing a busy pedestrian walkway. However, once I stepped inside, I was surprised at how zen and peaceful the decorations were and how fitting it was for a cozy and quiet cafe hangout. The cake shelf was surprisingly busy. And this is where I took one star out because the lines were confusing and the staff skipped me to talk to the group behind me while I was clearly the next to be helped. Luckily another staff member came out from the back kitchen and jumped in to help. The staff spoke fluent mandarin. I was interested in their box cakes. A few of the yelpers raved about their soy milk cake and luckily they had one out for sampling. It was covered with lots of cream and the cake layer was soft and moist, but it was still slightly too sweet for me and I felt that it lacked the tofu kind of soy flavor. Then, I spotted on their menu that they have a black sesame matcha box cake, and black sesame is always my favorite, so I asked for it. They had the last one left! The staff said she had never tried it so she couldn't tell me if it is less sweet than the soy milk cake. Since it was the last one available and I already sampled the soy cake, I decided to give it a try. I am happy that I did. The cake was filled with matcha mousse and tasted light and aromatic with the jasmine kind of matcha flavor. It is definitely less sweet. Unfortunately, it doesn't have as much black sesame as I'd like. But overall, the cake flavor is the kind that I like, subtle, moist, and not too sweet. $38 for a box cake of 4x4 is a bit pricey, but I'm glad that I gave it a try. The cakes were freshly made and tasted best the same day of purchase. They also recommend refrigerating the cake and consuming it within a day or two.

This time I tried the lemon tart, chocolate-covered strawberries, a macaron, and a lemon cake that was recommended to me. The lemon tart wasn't my favorite. It was a little too tart for my taste. I like lemon desserts, but this one had a very strong lemon punch and could have used a little more sweetness. The lemon cake, on the other hand, was really good. It had a refreshing lemon filling inside that wasn't overpowering, and I would definitely order that again. My niece loved the chocolate-covered strawberries, and my daughter enjoyed the macaron. The shop has a nice atmosphere, and it's a great place to stop when you're craving something sweet. I'll definitely be back to try some of their other pastries and desserts. Service was also excellent.

1484 Halford Ave Santa Clara, CA 95051…read more This was my first visit to Baker's Village in Santa Clara. It was a warm day, and I was drawn to this bakery by their fruit smoothies. It was near 5pm. I walked in and the place was empty. The gentleman behind the counter greeted me. I asked for a strawberry smoothie, then walked around to survey all the baked goods. It's a small bakery with lots of trays of individually packaged cakes and pastries. The smell was very pleasant and comforting. Using a flat basket (or tray) I grabbed a few selections. I picked 2 "Heart Pies" that resembled my favorite French Butterfly Cookies. Also 2 pound cakes. The total rang up to just over $21. There's some small tables for enjoying your purchases there, but I took my items to go. The icy cold fruit smoothie was very good and very cold! Not too sweet, it had a natural strawberry taste. The Heart Pies were good and fresh. But the Pound Cakes were probably "day old." I noticed there's no dates or "best by" tags on the packages. It's a nice place to visit, and I will return again. Free parking in plaza lot.

Wisely, I checked Yelp reviews first because some deals can be too good to be true. It's hidden gem off El Camino and near Lawrence Expressway where those that know good Korean baking have this spot on their short list of preferred places. I arrived a few minutes before my scheduled pick up time and Korean grandma behind the counter was super pro, teaching me how to confirm check in and gave me a mixed bag of baked goods with/without fillings. If you like surprises, are omnivore & no special diets or food allergies, Too Good To Go is the way to explore. The items were in generic packaging without labels, so take a pic of the items you like so can order when visit next time. While my family enjoyed all the items, I really enjoyed the black sesame studded puffy rolls that I think were made with rice flour. There was a large group of older Asian ladies, including one who brought their lap dog, enjoying good conversations in their native language with their baked goods and tea or coffee. Another gentleman was taking a video call to help decide the best cake to buy. Will add this bake shop for a place to have a coffee meeting and to favorite in Too Good To Go.
