I recently stayed at the Sheridan Hotel in Chicago and overall had a very pleasant experience. From the moment I arrived, the front desk staff stood out they were extremely friendly, welcoming, and full of great recommendations for places to eat around the city. That level of hospitality really set the tone for my stay. My room was on the 27th floor, and the view was absolutely amazing. I had a beautiful view of the river, and seeing Trump Tower both during the day and lit up at night was a highlight. The room itself was very comfortable the bed was soft with just the right amount of firmness, and there were plenty of pillows to choose from. I also appreciated the bathroom amenities. The lotion smelled amazing (more on the masculine side, which I liked), and the bathtub was spacious. They provided body wash, shampoo, and conditioner, which was convenient. The hotel offers some great perks too. I liked that they allow you to store your luggage after checkout so you can still enjoy the city. There's also a Starbucks on-site, and the location is very convenient close to shops and things to do. I also felt very safe since you need a key card to access your floor via the elevator. That said, there were a few downsides. The TV had an issue late at night and kept showing an error code, and the air conditioning unit was a bit loud. The food provided during our conference was unfortunately very bland and lacked flavor. Housekeeping could also improve there was hair left in the bathtub from a previous guest, and it didn't seem like the floors were thoroughly vacuumed. Additionally, there was a noticeable mildew smell in the hallway, and fans were running constantly, likely to help with that. Despite those issues, the staff's kindness and the overall comfort of the stay really stood out. I would still rate this hotel highly and would consider staying here again. read more

Beautiful and majestic with huge ballrooms and nice spaces with floor to ceiling windows. Right on the river and views of the river walk. Parking is terrible on the street so you will have to garage it or valet for $35 a day where they leave it at front. Lots of help staff inside and outside. The bathrooms and premises are clean and for events the staff work very hard and are really nice. The food at the Sheraton kitchen was amazing. The braised short rib was really really fresh and well Cooked and tender and juicy and quality meat. The salad and dessert was also very good. Great Location next to the Riverwalk, the magnificent mile and navy pier. Our room had great view of the city a tad bit dated but very clean.The beds were very comfy and that's always a big plus when out and about all day and good nights sleep is what it's all about for us. Staff was friendly and helpful Shula's steakhouse located in lobby. Buffet at 38 bucks per person nah we decided against that and took a short walk to a Cafe across the street. Stayed here for the Midwest International Band & Orchestra Conference. The location is excellent. The staff were professional and friendly. The location was very clean. The water temperature was perfect but the tub/shower was a little slow to drain in my room. The closet was very large with ample hangers for clothes. The bed was comfortable enough with plenty of pillows. The walls did appear rather thin though so I would bring a sound machine to help drowned out the noise. Especially if you have a room closer to the elevator like I did. Being here near Christmas allowed us to see so many beautiful decorations around the hotel. I'd certainly stay here again in the future if in the area. read more

I would say my stay here was overall pretty good. I reserved via Costco travel which included the $30 amenities fee. They do give you $15 daily to spend on food and beverages which was nice to use on coffee and some breakfast stuff. It is use it or lose it though so if you don't spend it, it goes to waste. I really liked the location and we ended up getting a room by the river. They also held our bags for us before and after check out so they was a win. Overall it was a decent hotel, not the best I've stayed at but it had everything that I needed for my stay in Chicago at a very reasonable price. read more

Stayed at the Sheraton Grand for three nights as I was attending a conference a few blocks up at the Hyatt. The hotel is on the older side, you can tell from the exterior. Our room was spacious, but also dated and the carpet was sticky feeling. Nice view of the river and the tall buildings in room 818. They charged me $50 plus all the taxes associated with it for an early check in before 4pm, which the front desk associate said was the policy. A little nickel and diming here IMO. If you have the room available, why not give us the courtesy? There's also a $30 daily resort fee which includes a $15 food and beverage credit and two tickets per day for two museums I never went to. Located next to Riverwalk and hotels galore. Any independent restaurants or touristy spots were at least 1/2 mile away. read more

This is the only hotel in Chicago that is bullet proof! I learned that while taking a river boat tour. This is a standard business hotel. With many business minded people bustling through daily. When we arrived it was busy but they have a designated area for Marriot members with status. We were checked in quickly. We were upgraded to the 34th floor. This is a busy hotel so a wait for the elevator is guaranteed but they move surprisingly fast. Upon check in we received a daily beverage credit and free tickets to the museum. We really enjoyed using our daily credit to order room service. Although not the best breakfast food ( they have these weird Halloween colored potato's) The hotel itself is massive. With a bar and restaurant on the first floor. There is a breakfast restaurant one floor below and on the Riverwalk another place to eat. The food adjacent to the river walk isn't the best it reminds me of fast food. The breakfast buffet is way better than the room service food. They make customized omelette s and everything. We regretted not going to the restaurant the first day. The location of this hotel is perfect it's right by the river walk and miracle mile. You can't beat the location. The staff are all very nice and the place is kept clean. I would stay here again next time in town. read more

We made a quick two-day trip to Chicago this week and chose the Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk for its unbeatable location. I've been to this hotel several times for conferences, but this was my first personal stay. While flying to Chicago, I tried to book a traditional room on the Marriott app. Just as I was confirming, I got an error: "We weren't able to hold this room." A call to Marriott confirmed the issue--likely a case of the app showing availability when none existed. So, I booked a slightly pricier river-view, club level room, and the reservation went through without a hitch. At check-in, I mentioned the glitch to the front desk. Without hesitation, they issued a credit for the price difference. That kind of service makes a lasting impression. Our room was spacious, spotless, and the river view was beautiful--especially at night. On Wednesday, we lucked out with a front-row view of fireworks over the river. Pretty memorable. That said, I still get irked by the $30 destination fee, especially with my high Marriott status. At least $15 of it is a daily credit for on-property dining. The Club Lounge on the 33rd floor is roomy and has a solid breakfast spread. But don't expect much at night--they've scaled back to just cheese and veggies for over a year now. No hot food in the evening, which feels like a missed opportunity. We had a great quick meal at Shula's Steakhouse in the lobby on our first night. Unfortunately, it was closed for a private event the next evening, so we opted for room service. Let's just say it's not the old-school room service of years past. Food now arrives in plastic containers in a bag. For the price, the quality was meh--maybe a 2.5 out of 5. The Italian salad was especially disappointing, and we ended up asking that it be taken off the bill. All in all, still a solid stay thanks to the location, the view, and a front desk that knows how to take care of guests. read more

The hotel can't be beat for location, it's right next to the river, and the Navy Pier is but a few blocks away. A Whole Foods store is but a very short walk. The lobby is beautiful, but the room was due to be revamped. Connecting to the Internet was miserable. We are Marriott-Bonvoy members and the desk clerk confirmed our membership number & told us we were given free Internet. Once in the room, I tried to connect on the internet, doing what was recommended. I could not link on. So , I called the front desk & eventually get directed a few times until I get customer service tech in India. WTF. What a stressor during a vacation. The tech tells me that I have to re-register an account, so now I have two accounts...having to generate a user name and password. So frustrating. We did enjoy the tasty, but expensive, buffet breakfast. read more

I stayed here alone in a club level room for a conference in the hotel. The accommodation was spacious enough with a comfortable bed, clean carpet and bathroom, and furniture and lamps in worn but decent condition. The bathroom sink was clogged from previous guests when I arrived in the room and when i notified the front desk they had an engineer fix it promptly at 8 pm on a weeknight. Parking is outrageously expensive and there's no valet service at all. Overall it was a decent but pricey convention hotel. Definitely a solid 3.5-4 out of 5 star hotel. read more

Beautiful huge lobby with 2 full restaurants / bars. Massive conference area. Overall I had a very nice time staying here. The lobby area and restaurants/bar areas were modern and quite stylish. Food was also excellent as was the staff. The hotel is right on the river with access to a river walk. The rooms were a bit outdated, but clean, comfortable, and quiet. Also beautiful views of the city. My only complaint is the $30 daily destination charge. Which seems like a bit of a scam. You do get a $15 credit at the restaurants and some other nice perks. But if you don't want it, why do I have to pay for it? Seems like a cash grab, but who knows. Otherwise, it's an impressive location and I enjoyed my stay very much. read more

My second time staying here and this time I brought the family for a Staycation. Hotel is in a great location with superb restaurants within and/or nearby. Easy check in process. There is an added fee per day but at least it came with free tickets & daily credit you can use onsite. Many comfortable areas to sit in or near the lobby to people watch. Love the added security where a room key is required to take the elevator to your floor. There is no microwave in the room so there is one by the elevators. Thankfully, no one on our floor re-heated fish or brocolli. (haha) The room is adequate, bed & pillows are comfy, bathroom is replenished. When we first turned on the faucet to the tub, the water did come out yellow, but eventually cleared out. Didn't happen again the next day. We had a child with us, so we took advantage of the indoor pool. Hopefully it is child-free for other guests early in the morning or late at night. There's also a workout area with a Peloton machine. Mario at registration was a warm welcome after a long flight! All the staff at this hotel have been wonderful. The location is great, this is the only hotel along the river. Beds are comfortable, rooms are clean, the restaurant downstairs has a breakfast buffet, and Shula's on the lobby level never disappoints. The only thing that prevents me from giving my review a full 5 stars is the cheap febreeze fragrance smell. I didn't smell it last time I was here in February, but it's like a cheap floral/rose air perfume that's been sprayed near the lobby level elevators.. It's the kind of fake fragrance that stays in your nose even after you leave the area... I'm allergic to fragrances, so it's disappointing when a nice hotel uses something like this... This is something I'd expect to smell at a motel. It's been at least 10 minutes since I left the lobby and the scent is still stuck in my nose... The febreeze smell is also in the hallways on my floor. read more

Our family of 4 stayed 3 nights while on a mini-vacation. Overall, pretty good, but not enough to stay here again for the price. The air conditioning struggled to keep up, often letting it get to 71F at night (even though it was only 65F outside), but improved slightly after the technician replaced the filter. The tech indicated the unit was probably gradually dying and encouraged us to speak to management if the new filter didn't provide enough improvement. The bathroom was sorely in need of an update - no ventilation fan to draw in fresh air, no vanity mirror, no handheld shower head (just a stationary head), and each day the housekeeping only gave us 3 towels/3 washcloths even though it was an extra-large family suite and booked for 4 people. Lastly, the waterproof mattress protector was just a flat layer, not fitted, and it was so old & pilled that it was rough and bumpy even under the flat sheet. Not exactly the smooth feeling one wants to experience when slipping into a clean bed. The beds are only fulls, not queens, even though there is plenty of room to put in 2 queens. The room also had just barely enough lighting. Our stay was adequate with no serious issues, but I would not stay here again, especially given the price + the "destination tax" that Chicago adds on. read more

This hotel has a great location right by the river. I came with a large group for work. The room was ok, it had the basics and it was clean. It does NOT have a refrigerator/microwave, but some coworkers asked for a refrigerator and one was brought to their rooms. The restroom was an ok size with the bathtub being on the shallow side. The water pressure was great! I'm not a fan of the liquid body soap dispenser and there were no soap bars whatsoever. They do not provide the basic cleaning kit that you see at some hotels with cotton swabs, makeup removing wipes, etc. The view was great and there was a sofa right by the window. The staff at the hotel was nice and helpful and I would definitely stay at this property again. read more

As they say in real estate circles...Location, Location, Location. That's half of my score here. Right along the Chicago River and Riverwalk, you can't be at a more convenient hotel. Many good nearby restaurants, clubs, parks, museums and waterfront. I met a group of longtime friends for a reunion weekend. Rooms are well appointed, if dated, though walls are a bit thin (noise-wise). Elevators are old and painfully slow - at times requiring a 20 minute wait. Breakfast cafe is 'buffet only' and pricey for small appetites. Yes, I understand that I'm in a big city and in primo tourist territory, but this is 'spendy' by any account. read more

There are some great and not so great aspects to the Sheraton. First, it's in a good location right on the river and in walking distance to Navy pier. There are restaurants and stores right in the immediate area. Additionally, the hotel offers great views of the lake, the pier, the river and parts of the skyline. And the doormen were always friendly and helpful. However, the reasons for the three star review and not higher are: The rooms are fairly small and a bit worn such as the carpet and fixtures. The room was not dirty, but you can quickly tell the details like cleaning the exhaust vents in the bathroom are not a priority. Also, the club level rooms are not really worth it if the majority of your day is over the weekend. They do not offer club room service Friday evening through all of Sunday. Additionally, the breakfast and evening snacks are very disappointing. And here is a tip... Do not pay for their parking. The Ogden Park parking is significantly less expensive and is actually connected to the building. Overall, a pretty decent hotel. They could certainly step up the cleanliness and the club level amenities. read more

It's centrally located, lovely hotel. Depending on what view you prefer it's a decent view. You can walk to everywhere you need to as a tourist or if you have a conference in downtown Chicago. The room is clean and comfortable. Housekeeping everyday. However the Bonvoy members elite club upstairs is closed. Breakfast was complementary for the same reason on weekends only at the riverside cafe. It was ok. The hotel had a steakhouse and a bar. Overall. Went for the annual Cubs Convention. When we arrived we wanted to park at the hotel. After entering the lot, many of the areas to park were roped off and there was no parking available. Had to get an attendant to let us out without paying. Why even have the lot open? Parked across the street at The Ogden lot which is dark and run down. Checkin was super easy but the rooms have no fridge which is odd. You have to advise them if you want your room cleaned daily . The main problem with this hotel is the lack of eating options especially for a large convention. They only have one restaurant open for breakfast and lunch and a hamburger place for lunch and early dinner. There is a carry out snack shop with overpriced items. In my opinion,the Sheraton is too small for this convention. When they held it at the Chicago Hilton it was much better! read more

10 years later so it's time to update this review! I stayed here 10 years ago for a blogging conference and I stayed here this week for a work conference. I had a corner room with a king size bed, and when I arrived there, I was astonished - I had THREE windows, each with a fabulous view of Lake Michigan and you could even see Navy Pier. The bed was also nice and comfortable. The room floor sloped down a little bit which was a little odd but that was fine. The bathroom was also huge and had both a shower and a bath (combined) - unfortunately there was no shower gel but I asked for some extra soap on the Marriott app and they brought me some right away. I was able to see quite a lot of rooms on the 28th, 29th, and 30th floor during this trip because a lot of my meetings were in those rooms, and my room was one of the nicest ones I saw. The standard rooms are still a little big for Chicago but nothing crazy. I did have a meeting in one room that must have been some sort of suite because it was slightly bigger than my room and it had like a small kitchenette or something in it. Marriott now owns the Sheraton chain and it pays to be a Marriott rewards member, you can use the app to message the front desk for anything you need. This hotel now has a resort fee apparently but because I was in the room block for the conference I attended, they waived the fee. You do get two bags of Garrett's popcorn when you check in, if you have to pay the fee, which I want to say is like $20 per day. Self parking is also very expensive here now, $65 a day, but I didn't have a car with me. This is still one of the nicest hotels I've stayed at and I stay at a lot of hotels between both personal and work travel. Apparently the hotel rooms have been updated within the past 10 years but the lobby has not, and really I don't think it needs to be ... Classic elegance is always in style. read more

The overall hospitality was great. I came here for a conference. It started off rocky. The first day they miscalculated the number of conference members. So, for breakfast we waited in line for over 30 minutes, then were told they ran out of food. Then, we were escorted upstairs to the cafe, and then back down to the dining hall. Once we got to the dining hall, the staff quickly threw half cooked pancake breakfasts in front of us! The following days, the catering got a little better as far as the lines, and getting enough tables to accommodate everyone. Yet, the caterers were still rude and would forget people's request. I had to ask for simple things like a fork or cream for coffee multiple times. Sometimes, they forgot to come back to the table. Besides the catering, the other staff in the hotel were pleasant, respectful and hospitable. The riverfront view is beautiful from this hotel. There are several places in the hotel to relax and to lounge. I enjoyed going to the cafe and the restaurants onsite. But, I wouldn't recommend this hotel for a large conference, especially if catering is involved. read more

My friends and I met in Chicago from 3 different states and we decided on staying at the Sheraton Grand Chicago for it's beautiful location by the Riverwalk as well as proximity to Magnificent Mile and other plans we had while in Chicago. One of my friends have a gold status with Marriot so we were able to get a complimentary upgrade to a river front view and a late check out. We paid extra for an early check in (extra $50). It was nice to settle in a bit early after long travels so we thought it was worth it. We had a 2 queen bedroom that was a bit on the tight side. Everything was clean and the beds were comfortable. My friends took advantage of their fitness center/gym each morning. For me the room was lacking because there was not microwave and more importantly no refrigerator. We bought so much alcohol from Wholefoods nearby and couldn't keep it chilled. When we checked out, we still had time before my friends were heading to the airport so we were able to check in our bags with their luggage service. We received one ticket for each item and the whole experience was quick and simple. Please remember to tip. Love the location and it was convenient getting around. And as much as I love the view, I feel like a fridge is a basic necessity when I travel. Half for my booze but also because I often don't finish my meal and would like to save my leftovers to avoid being wasteful. read more

Lots of drive-up room at the entrance. Staff were polite and attentive. The rooms were clean and we were not met with an icebox when entering. The views of the River were amazing. My father went to the breakfast buffet, and he said he was 'in his glory' with all the good options. My family loved staying there. I like that the hotel is right on the Riverwalk. Ok so the stay started with self parking for 70 dollars per night. Next we wait on line to check in for our room. We are lifetime platinum but we had to wait and wait. Finally we find out no surprise concierge level closed. Room was ok but small for 500 a night. We did get a free Breakfast for two but never used it because we did not see to was for the day before we were leaving. Mattresses must be old you fall off the bed if close to edge so soft. Finally the elite line employee was very rude when we asked questions and we got charged a 25 dollar a day entertainment fee non refundable and we had to use at hotel restaurants or loose the money! Based on one visit to this location. But have stayed at a number of Sheraton locations around the world. This is a large hotel that has allot of conference rooms. Its location is prominent on the Chicago river. Plus (+) Location is great for tourists and anyone that wants to be on Riverwalk and bear Michigan avenue. One can argue location depends on purpose to visiting the city. But assume most people want to be in the middle of the downtown. View from our room was of the river and lake and it is stunning. Really nice. Staff were pretty friendly at the front desk after multiple visits. The housekeeping greeted us warmly each morning....and it was genuine. OK (+ / -) The rooms are nice but not stunning. Transportation: not near a train but there are bus lines near. Water pressure is high which is good for most and probably should be a strength. My wife thought it was too high. Minus (-) $25 per day Destination Fee. This can be used to purchase higher priced snacks at the cafe or other in building restaurants.. You make the purchase and put it against the room number and it's deducted against the $25. Use it or lose it. Essentially it's a forced $25 spend so you can get some value out of the $25 fee. If you ignore it and just accept the charge and don't spend against it....probably not an issue. But if you are the type of person that hates to leave $ on the table, it is annoying at minimum and worst case stressful. It's also INCONVENIENT to have to check your bill to make sure it's correct. PEOPLE SHOULD BE THINKING OF HOW THEY WILL ENJOY THEIR DAY OR THEIR EXPERIENCES, NOT HOW TO SPEND THE $25 and hoping the bill is correct. You also get two bags of popcorn per day and can get a gift from the gift store as part if the fee. They ran out of popcorn so only received on day 1 of 3. This hotel is a good option for allot of people. BUT The $25 fee that forces you to find ways to spend it is a real fun deflator. As a result we have no plans to stay here on our next visit. If you don't mind just losing the $25 or consider it part if the overall price, not an issue. The price for us wasn't the issue. For us it seems like a scam and out of principle it bothered us. read more

Instead of the expensive lobby bar another nearby option is Lizzie McNiell's Irish Pub next to the hotel by the river which has a nice outside patio (open until midnight). Take escalator all the way down, walk towards the Burger place, exit the double doors facing river and take a left. After hours you may need to walk all way along the river and take stairs up to street level and around the corner to hotel front entrance. I stayed here for a week and enjoyed the hotel. It has a great location in downtown and is within walking distance to lots of good restaurants and the riverfront. The lobby is big with ample seating, so easy to meet with others. The front entrance has a convenient area for rideshare to stop. My room had a beautiful view of the Chicago River too. It was clean and spacious, although the pillows were flimsy and flat (1 star off). There was some street noise from my room on the 21st floor; you could hear the train until pretty late at night. I wore my earbuds to sleep and it was okay. The gym has a good number of treadmills, weight machines, and an indoor pool, with partial views of the Chicago River and Lake Michigan. I noticed the cleaning wipes were inconsistently used by guests though. The gym opens at 5:30AM, and there were guests there at 5:30AM! read more
