Our AirBnB hosts listed it as the only 5-star restaurant in town so we made a last minute reservation, which they graciously accommodated. What a great choice! First impressions don't convey 5-star, but once we settled in, the cozy and casual ambience was perfect. They have an extensive cocktail and wine list and we dove into the cocktail section. Really smart and interesting selection - would've loved to try more than two. We had a featured appetizer - an heirloom tomato salad with goats cheese and gazpacho dressing. Fresh, well presented and delicious. We also ordered the bread with lemon butter and olive oil. The multigrain bread was fantastic! For mains, I had the kobe beef and my partner had the meatballs with a side of roasted carrots. The beef melted in my mouth and the chimichurri sauce was possibly the best I've had. The meatballs and carrots had a decidedly north african flavour profile and were beautiful and balanced. Their menu is fantastic - if we lived nearby we would return to try almost everything. So glad we didn't stay to eat dinner in way-too-touristy Whistler or we would've missed out on this gem.

They also had a Halloween cocktail list. The hostess was friendly, but our server killed our experience. Her words were friendly but her facial expressions and body language revealed how much she disliked serving us. My husband and I spoke after, we both felt she was probably racist. Their happy hour menu had a big selection of food items but no drinks. Everything was pretty expensive for happy hour. We tried the raw Albertan elk tartare and potato puffs. We enjoyed both dishes and the portions were big. As much as we enjoyed the food, we probably won't return due to the slow and uncomfortable service.

Though the restaurant was largely empty when we arrived, we were sat at a booth that at best sat 4 and was not enough for the 5 in our group. We tend to eat lots of appetizers rather than one big meal so I knew the table would not work - we asked to be moved and the server was quite confrontational - she eventually agreed to move us to one of two larger tables that was available the whole time we were there! But it was a weird start and had we not already ordered drinks and it been a Saturday night with most places booked - I would have walked as I don't ever recall been talked to like that in a restaurant and my guess is they moved us in time to stop us leaving. She also told us that she would stagger courses appropriately- that never happened. Pretty much everything arrived at once which I wondered if it was an attempt to flip the table quickly for other large parties - who were not exactly lining up in abundance. The other large table sat empty even after we left. It arrived so, so fast I would guess that a lot of it was pre prepared and just heated up as multiple plates were brought out less than 10 minutes of ordering. Also most of the appetizers and salad arrived last so they seemingly did not know or care to course appropriately. We also ended up stacking dishes at the end of the table as they were not removed- though to be fair, they appeared to be woefully understaffed . Food had some hits and some misses .The meat eaters loved the chicken, the shishito peppers were excellent, , watermelon salad was good, potatoes croquettes were a shadow of their former selves and needed more flavor , mussels were okay and the Creme brûlée was gritty! Weird vibe, mediocre service, food was just okay - much better places to eat in the Village so I wont go back.

Rickie's All Day Grill - Sechelt, BC…read more If you're looking for a reliable, easygoing breakfast or lunch spot in Sechelt, Rickie's All Day Grill hits that sweet spot between comfort and efficiency. Sitting here now, the coffee's hot, the air smells like toasted bread and bacon, and the atmosphere just feels right -- bright, friendly, and clean. The space is spotless and well lit, with plenty of natural light spilling in through big front windows. You can actually relax here. The tables gleam, the booths are tidy, and the hum of conversation feels cheerful but never overwhelming. It's the kind of place where locals and travelers alike can settle in for a meal that feels familiar in all the best ways. Service is another highlight. The staff glide between tables with practiced ease -- warm smiles, quick coffee top-ups, and no awkward waiting around. You get the sense that everyone here knows what "good service" means: calm, friendly, and consistent. The coffee itself is fresh, brewed right, and bottomless in the old-fashioned sense of hospitality that's become too rare. The menu's full of the classics -- eggs, pancakes, omelets, and burgers -- but it's the energy of the place that stands out more than anything on the plate. Even parking is simple. You can pull right up out front, no circling the block or wrestling for space -- which, in Sechelt, makes a world of difference. If there's one detail that jars the scene a little, it's the plastic straws. In a place that's so clean and thoughtfully run, that small choice feels out of sync. The modern diner vibe here deserves better -- something that matches the fresh coffee and polished tables. A simple swap to natural or compostable straws would align perfectly with the tone of care the staff already bring to everything else. Overall, Rickie's in Sechelt is a dependable local gem -- the kind of spot where the morning light, warm smiles, and steady coffee make you feel right at home. Overall: 4.5/5 Coffee: Fresh, refilled often Cleanliness: Excellent Parking: Easy and close Service: Friendly and attentive Suggestion: Ditch the plastic straws -- the atmosphere deserves better or simply add an eco premium choice such as the new rye straws popping up everywhere. Love those little straws. Me encantan esas pajitas.

There were about 20 people in the restaurant, all of which were my son's team, and the capacaity looked about 60 people or so. The hostess just said 'we cannot serve you'. I asked if we could just sit with my team and not order, she said 'no'. So we walked down the way and had a nice Tim Horton's breakfast. We will be back in the area for hockey many times in the years to come and will definitely not be going to Ricky's!

The biscuit was perfect--buttery, fluffy, and nicely crusty on the outside. The hollandaise was also quite good. However, the eggs were a bit overcooked for my preference; the whites were solid and the yolks were mostly set rather than runny. Overall, it was a very flavorful meal, and I will definitely return when I'm back on the Sunshine Coast
