Delicious BBQ! The meat here is absolutely the best BBQ I have ever had at a restaurant. I would like to give 4.5, based on price, quality of the sides, and room in the restaurant, but 5 will do. I came here a few days ago with my family, to see my brother who was visiting from out of town. I had the rib and meat platter. This included ribs and two sides, and I chose burnt ends as my second meat. The ribs and burnt ends were phenomenal, just absolutely great meat. I had green beans, mac and cheese, (and ate my brother's slaw) for sides. The green beans were very good - they had been cooked with meat, and were not too soggy, which often seems to happen at BBQ joints. The mac and cheese was just okay - it was a little bland. The slaw was also fine. The sauces were very good. They had three or four different flavors, and I tried a bit of each on the burnt ends. Each was unique, and worth trying. My personal favorite was the hot. I also had a beer with my meal - the Mad Anthony's IPA. Back when I lived in South Bend, I had Mad Anthony's in Elkhart a few times. The beer is nothing special, but it is nice that it is offered at Shigs in Pit. The prices seemed a little steep considering the portion sizes, but the quality is worth it. Best BBQ in Fort Wayne. We have been several times and always leave satisfied. We take relatives from out of town here all the time. Portion sizes are big and the price is very affordable. I personally prefer to be waited on so I can sit and relax; but that's just me. The place can get very crowded and busy at times. We had the Rib& meat(with brisket), single meat(with pulled pork) & the big shig pig sandwich - sides: green chile Mac n cheese, corn bread, Apple baked beans & cucumber/tomato salad. All was delicious! Our favorite sauce was the Original! Meat fell off the ribs! Pulled pork and brisket perfectly cooked! Our favorite sides were the Mac n cheese and corn bread. My mom and I were in Fort Wayne to Christmas shop. Since we're from South Bend we were looking for restaurants to eat at for my birthday. I came across this place on Yelp and we love BBQ so my mom and I decided after looking at their menu that this was where we were gonna go. So we drive there and you go to the parking lot and you just see this big smoker... So we are excited. The inside was really cute. Enough with the design... Let's talk food! My mom got the half rack of ribs and I got the 2 meat dinner and I chose pulled pork and brisket. We decided we were gonna try most of the sides and share because we're not used to having anything other than French fries with our BBQ so we weren't sure what would taste good. Starting with the meat... OMG the ribs were AH-MAZING!!!!! They weren't fall off the bone but they weren't tough either. They were tender. The perfect in between. My mom was in love!! I liked my pulled pork a little more than I did my brisket but I enjoyed both. I say if you are a big BBQ fan get the ribs or pulled pork! We tried all the sauces (Hot, Original, Tangy) and we both liked the original the best. I also liked the hot BBQ sauce too. Not very into the tangy, I believe its vinegar based (I'm not positive though) and I don't like vinegar so I passed on that one. Now on to the sides... We had the apple pie baked beans, the potato casserole, coleslaw, the green chile mac & cheese, and the corn "spoon bread"!! Omg, superb!! We were a little scared to try the apple pie baked beans just because of the name but it was so good!! Its not sweet like you would think. So even if you're like us saying"apple pie baked beans?!" Trust me they are yummy!! The mac and cheese was mine and I really liked it because it was spicy and I love spicy food. The corn spoon bread was better than a lot of traditional corn breads. I usually don't like cornbread but this was tasty. The potato casserole was fine but we didn't care for the crunchy stuff on top and we did not care for the coleslaw. But at the end of the meal we were both saying how we would drive back to Fort Wayne again just to eat this BBQ. And that's 1 hr and 30 minutes away from where we live... It was that good!! A fantastic place to get barbecue. The sides are all delicious, but some more variety would be good. Every meat dish I've tried has been delicious. The only issues are that a few times I've visited, the meat has been dry and overcooked and the brisket has been overseasoned the last two times I've had it.. Disappointing, because most of the time the ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender with a mouthwatering sauce. The pulled pork is juicy and delicious. The sausage has a spicy kick that doesn't overwhelm, which can be hard to find at some barbecue joints. The burnt ends are little juicy nuggets of flavor and the regular brisket is just wonderful. Go when the place is busy and the food is being churned out, and you'll be thrilled with what you get. read more

I eat a lot of barbecue and Shigs In Pit is some of the best I've had in a restaurant. We tried a little bit of everything: pulled pork, brisket, jalapeño cheddar sausage and burnt ends. All were great, but the sausage and the burnt ends were my personal favorites. The apple pie baked beans were an awesome twist on a classic, and the green chili mac & cheese was delicious but really heavy. The two meat plate will leave you plenty full. The decor is no frills, which is in itself charming. Who needs fancy when you have great barbecue? I have recommended this place to all of my friends who visit Fort Wayne, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great, quick meal. read more

Absolutely the WORST barbecue we have EVER had in our lives. We were looking forward to it so we ordered 3 kinds of meat with several sides. All of the meat was dry and tough and I simply did not like the flavor. Pulled pork.. odd smell and taste. Brisket dry and a COMPLETE disappointment. Ribs very tough. The sides all fell into one of two categories: Bleh or Yuck! We threw a lot of everything away. If this was my first time ever eating bbq of any kind, I would choose never to eat barbecue again. Personally, I am an extremely picky barbeque eater, and Shigs in Pit truly got the job done in my opinion. This restaurant was opened in the year 2012, and has always been considered one of Fort Wayne's best. Since their opening they have won numerous awards; awards varying from sauces to meat are displayed proudly in the middle of the dining room which instantly caught my eye. This establishment is just a classic, old-school barbeque joint which has a hole-in-the-wall feel. They have a very simple menu which consists of the most popular types of barbeque dishes, along with some great sides. They are located at 2008 Fairfield Ave, downtown Fort Wayne Indiana 46802; they can be reached at 260-387-5903. Easily the best part of this restaurant was the food. The selection process for me was very difficult as the entire menu sounded amazing. Their selection of sandwiches is fairly vast. They have traditional pulled pork, turkey, and ham sandwiches. Along with the plain sandwiches they have what is called "slightly-gourmet BBQ sandwiches". These delicious options are spins of classic BBQ sandwiches on steroids. These items include massive servings of meat such as ham, turkey, and bologna piled high with an array of different cheeses and garnishments. My personal favorite slightly-gourmet sandwich is the "Ham Po Boy", which includes perfectly cooked ham, zingy mustard, melted Swiss Cheese, lettuce, and tomato. If BBQ sandwiches aren't your thing, they have a wide variety of classic BBQ entrees. Shigs in Pit offers dinner plates that include either one or two selections of meat which are either pulled pork, chopped chicken, pit ham, beef brisket, turkey breast, or ribs. All of these classic options are absolutely to die for. The ribs are simply fall-off-the-bone delicious, and the beef brisket is unbelievably tender and flavorful. This platter comes with a selection of 2 sides. The sides are incredible, espically the apple pie baked beans, green chilie mac and cheese, and the corn bread. Honestly when you are at Shigs in Pit you simply can't go wrong with your selection. One of the very few cons in my opinion is the way food is served. There are no waiters, bus boys, or hosts. Once you arrive you can look back into the kitchen through a man-sized hole in the wall. You simply walk up to the hole order your food and within a couple of minutes you go pick up your delicious meal. This style of ordering is not my favorite, however at this particular establishment it is awesome simply because it gives the entire restaurant a very low-key causal ambiance. All in all my overall experience was a good one. Despite the fact I think the way food is ordered at this particular establishment is a con, it really makes the entire experience unique. It made me feel as if I was in a true hole-in-the-wall barbeque shack in the middle of some giant city. The Food is quality, the workers are polite, the decor is on point, and most -importantly of all, the sweet tea was endless. My sister ordered takeout for my mother and me from this restaurant. I had read the reviews online and was really looking forward to the ribs and sides. However, I have to say, this is some of the worst BBQ I've ever eaten. I really wanted to like it, but............neither my mother nor I finished our food. The sides weren't any better than the ribs. Everything had an off flavor to both of us., and my stomach was upset the next few days. My sister did get in touch with the owner and he was very gracious and gave my mother a gift card to try again. As for me, despite his kindness and generosity, I don't think I could bring myself to try it again, sad to say. read more

This review is for the Shigs N Pit Fairfield location: Love this place and love everything about it! This establishment has BBQ written all over it. It's nice, clean, casual appearance feels like being outside for a BBQ picnic with the red and white checkered tablecloths. I love how they include a variety of their very own BBQ sauces on their tables cause I can't get enough of their delicious sauce! Since it is also kid friendly, I'm more likely to stop in with my kiddos. My kids love the kids meals with the little cups with straws in them that they can take home. They also have high chairs and booster seats if needed. Their BBQ Nachos are my favorite, but you can't go wrong with anything ordered on their menu because it's all good, in my opinion. Parking might be crowded at times in their parking lot, but you can park along the street and I don't find it inconvenient, even with smaller children. Give it a shot! You won't be sorry! read more

Sauce was good (med&hot) ..... garlic bread / mac and scoop cornbread would have been great if we had ribs to eat it with ! C'MON ............... I ordered half a SLAB.... YOU gave me 6 pcs which would have been fine if they where edible ! ALL I can think of was that it was sliced the previous day ..... NOT ONE TRACE OF MOISTURE ! I spent over $65 on pulled pork, ribs, potato casserole , Mac & cheese & garlic bread. I would not have paid a dollar for any of it . Took It straight home & fed my family & guests . No one thought it was slightly eatable . The ribs were so dry & burnt , even after dumping bbq sauce on them ,, we threw them in trash . The 1lb pork made 3 sandwiches that were mostly fat, grease & gristle. The Mac & cheese was so overcooked you couldn't tell what kind of macaroni was even used it was all bland mush . Potato casserole was a paste with potato chunks , very bland . So garlic toast must of been good right , I mean I've never had anyone mess of bread . Every piece was Complete mush , even the crust had no crunch . We grabbed those in the car on the ride home . I've never in my life seen anything like it . They were visible appetizing , but disgusting to taste . You could have wrung a cup of grease/butter out of every piece . I can't figure out how not even the crust had any texture other than mush .
