This is our third time dining here. No wait at 11:30 am on Saturday. Atmosphere - The chairs had holes and were ripped. It needs to be reupholstered. Customer Service - Wait staff were attentive. Taste - We like the brisket, marinated boneless short rib and spicy tofu soup. The fried rice lacked flavor and seasoning and all you could taste was sesame oil. Me and my fiance just celebrated our 3 year anniversary and newton (our server) was an amazing server. Cut our meat without asking. Kept our sides filled. Filled my fiance's sauces 4 times without him asking. He was always there and always asking if we had everything. This is my favorite Korean BBQ place. So please check it out. I typically come here at least once every two-three weeks (it would be more if not for the 25min drive). This place is always bomb every time I come and service is always extraordinary. They all help each other out and it's a team experience.... But today we had Newton for the first time and he went above and beyond in service. That guy is absolutely amazing! I also found out from the manager it was his day off but he came in to cover. From someone that manages restaurants myself I know they typically don't come in with the best attitude, but not Newton. I don't typically write these but I felt he deserved the recognition. Thanks Newton! read more

I've been going to this place since my freshman year of college (i'm now a 3rd year) this is my FAVORITE KBBQ place. I really love this place because at specific times of the day, their AYCE goes down to $25 per person which is nice for a college student and I get everything I need! I wish i had more pictures but i don't cause i immediately stuff my face with the food. I'm a brisket lover and here it just HITS DIFFERENT!!!! i usually add the brisket sauce when i cook it. i've been to other places where the brisket is bad so this is nice. i love the mushroom and onions we can grill and i love the beef belly and the list goes on. they've gotten better at customer service but i don't care cause i'm here for the food. i always have a good time with friends. whenever my friends want to go to kbbq I always convince them to come here and they never regret it. i hope you have a good time too! read more

The food was delicious. Good quality meats. The young men that work there are very polite, helpful, and courteous. Our waiter suggested ordering 1/2 servings. The was a very good recommendation. We got to try a larger selection of the menu that way. We also did not waste any food that way. It's all you can eat so who cares how large a portion they give you to cook. Good job guys! Came here for late night KBBQ on a Sunday. The best part is that if you come after 10pm any day of the week you can choose the lunch/late night 25.99 menu which is a great deal, there's also not too much of a crowd at this time. Make sure to clarify that you're ordering from that menu as well as confirm when you get your check. We ordered brisket, bulgogi, thinly sliced pork belly, spicy tofu soup, and fried rice that were all amazing. I love the variety of sides here that you get as well, the cucumbers are my favorite! The staff is quick with getting meats as well as changing the grill. There is a lot of seating inside however can fill up quickly on weekends, you are able to join the waitlist from yelp which is a plus! Great for small or large groups. read more

The service is not the best. Some of the servers looked impatient when we were trying to order more meat. The beef tongue and short ribs were not so tender. The briskets were ok. We basically finished everything and we only half order of squids left. The server had turned back on the grill and finish them or they are going to charge us for that. I will go to other kbbq places in Irvine next time in the future read more

Well let me just say this just because service is quick doesn't mean it's efficient...first time ever I've been asked to reuse the side plates but it's the delivery of the message that set the one for our experience rude and direct. The rice paper was hard, and you have to ask for salad, siracha, black sauce ....oh and specifically ask for refills of water or they won't take a hint and refill it. One server for all tables plus bus boy. Female Owner I assume was present but only to tell my toddlers to sit down? Um no they were seated long enough this isn't an airplane. Place overall is worn down, meats are okay but not worth returning. We won't be. No yogurt was offered ! read more

I Went to Shik Do Rak for my first Korean bbq experience in 10 years (which is crazy)! When getting there it was a little confusing on if there is a list or you wait in line but eventually we were seated and looked over the menu, which we also weren't sure if AYCE is everyday or only certain days/times (based on reading the menu) ! The server clarified that certain menus are so we did the AYCE "3-2" menu for $33.99 each and it was a great price for the amount of food and options - we got Tongue, Brisket, garlic pork, Marinated short rib, Octopus, bulgogi and New York strip (SO MUCH) and also got some white rice (wish we did Fried rice- rookie mistake). It's pretty fast paced and you mostly order the meat and it comes to you right away to be cooked (had one forgotten delivery towards the end we had to ask about). The servers mainly stop by/pickup to keep the pace going and we're very kind! I will say there is not much in way of drink options so something to remember! Everyone inside seemed to be having a great time and the seats/tables were roomy for all the items we got, the restaurant isn't particularly "fancy" so to speak for "$$$" (just to know for environment expectations) but the food was worth it! Ultimately, as someone with minimal KBBQ experience i enjoyed my dining at Shik Do Rak! read more

Same price as competing kbq places in the area with worse service, meats, sides, ambiance and ventilation from the grill. I wish I was joking but it might have been the only time I have complained to the owner to validate not tipping. It's if it was a flat 10 dollars cheaper than it's comped, than I can understand but I rather drive 5 min to anywhere else for better kbq. read more

Servers are very friendly and on task but the owner or manager does not want to speak with you she just throws someone else at you not even acknowledging you. Fried rice is great tho I give it a 3 star just because the lead or manager needs to be more considerate I didn't even know at first you had to go on yelp so I was just there confused asking for help... it only takes 5 seconds to tell me what to do. Otherwise other staff is great read more

The host was friendly... but as soon as you walk closer to the seating area, the floor is oily, you are rushed when ordering and get weird looks when you ask for more water or refills. All food on the grill must be eaten before they bring you the check, so make sure to know that you are going to eat everything you order... and by that I mean, we had about 2 bites of food left and the waitress told us all food must be gone or there is no bill. For such a long wait, just to eat at this place, service should much better. Never again for me. read more

I went another time with my boyfriend, it was not the same as my first time because of the server. In-lan is the best server there otherwise the others don't get orders out or correct as proficiently. I ran into her in the bathroom and contemplated praising her individually. But I didn't. If a restaurant is closed on certain days, their reservation system shouldn't allow bookings or send confirmations for those days. Mostly because I just wish the food had been better, but also because, despite how impressive the OC food scene is, I hadn't come across any BBQ joints/Cantonese restaurants that SF has so many of until randomly stumbling across this place! Then again, maybe I've just been too distracted by the many Taiwanese options that the Bay Area is so criminally short on... Compared to some of the Chinese BBQ joints that I frequent in the Bay Area, this place felt so much newer and a whole lot cleaner/nicer. That said, while the menu appeared to be a whole lot narrower, they still had a decent selection of offerings to choose from. Along with their nearly twenty different sides/snack dishes, which include items like pig ears with chili sauce, cucumber salad, chicken wings, wontons in chili oil, and tofu skin salad, they also had BBQ meats, like Roasted Duck, Soy Sauce Chicken, and Char Siu, a mix of rice and noodle dishes, and combination plates of their BBQ meats over rice or noodles. Sadly, though, no crispy skin roast pork, which was a huge bummer. -- SWEET FRIED CORN Admittedly, this initially didn't catch my eye, but I'm glad we ended up trying it. My brother and his fiance split a full order of the beef ribs and side order of sauteed garlic green beans. My mom and step dad split a full order of beef ribs while I ordered a full rack of baby back ribs which came with two side orders. I picked coleslaw and onion rings which I shared with the family. The food came out promptly. Everyone enjoyed their food. The baby back ribs were moist with flavor, smoked and went well with their bbq sauce. The rest of the family really like their beef ribs. And they even commented that it was better than the other bbq places we been to. Definitely will return and highly recommend.

*** SCAM ALERT *** I…read moredon't use the word "SCAM" lightly, but that's what this was. My adult son called in a $281.62 order off the menu for Mother's Day. They would not accept the order or payment over the phone because the order was "too big." They asked that someone go there and pay up front for the entire order. Since it was the evening before Mother's Day, I drove to them and paid for the order. Yes, I was also presented with a minumum 20% TIP screen, which I declined. When I got there at pickup time (4:00pm) on Mother's Day, the price changed to $325.51. I was told that, for some reason, they had cut about 50% larger portions than the menu specified (see the line items, which should have been 1 lb. each), so they charged me for the difference ($325.51 - $281.62) which was $43.89 (about 50% more for the 2 items they cut heavier). No, there was no mention when I placed the order that the total cost might change due to extra meat. Neither is it shown on their web site or printed menus. When I protested, there was no option. If I don't pay the $43.89 difference, I don't get the Mother's Day food. After about 20 minutes of bickering at the counter with two different clerks (note the time stamp differences on the credit card slips), I was given my original order, with a net price reduction of ($281.62 - $254.93) $26.69. My persistence had paid off. On a positive note, the cook did, twice, walk up to me and quietly apologize for what was going on. I know many folks would have folded in this situation, but that's not my nature. I don't stand for dishonesty. Yes, it was embarrassing, other clients in line were not happy (I let them skip ahead of me so as not to inconvenience them). None of them had price increases. I don't know if the clerks wanted a tip because the management doesn't pay them much, or it this goes deeper and is standard operating procedure that assumes most clients will simply approve of the overage and pay up. In any case, from this client's point of view, this is a SCAM! When it was all over, I took my 11 and 12 year old grandsons (who had been sitting patiently waiting for grandpa to pay) and my food package to the car, drove home and proudly presented the meat to my family. After all, I am a hunter-gatherer; and the food was great!

Soup: I'd stay away from the Original House broth because that's the blandest. Yes, the meats would flavor it up, but I prefer to have an already good broth that the meat will improve. I'll list the meats that I liked, so I ordered these multiple times. - 8. Filet Mignon - 9. All that Shabu: Ribeye - 10: Angus Choice: Beef Chuck Flap - 11: Lamb shoulder These are the ones that are okay. Stuff I won't eat too much of - 1. Angus Beef Brisket - 3. Angus Flat Iron Steak - 4. Chicken wings: Cold, used to be crispy, it's how they get people to stop eating the meats. Good enough to try, but I'd refrain from eating too much of this. Buffet section: Good amount of vegetables, classic shabu balls (squid ball, lobster ball, fish ball, etc), some seafood options (white fish, clams, frozen baby scallops), and some noodle options. I would say that I kinda wished they had Goma (sauce), because they didn't. Service: Solid. They make sure you're topped up all the time, and the food arrives relatively quickly. Although, I came here during a slow night. Ambiance: Classic shabu vibe. A bunch of tables for 8s that have an option to be split between parties if needed. The buffet area is in the center of everything, and there's a good amount of space between tables and within the buffet section.
