I guess I wouldn't really classify this as a steakhouse and the menu was expensive and they were like five or six steak options. I had the filet it was very tender and cooked almost perfectly little rarer than I would want it but it was still very good my husband had the ribeye and he said it was good but a little gristly. My salad was excellent cold and crisp the way it should be baked potato is done properly. The place bills itself as group-friendly however our group was split up between three rooms which is another thing it's almost seems like it was old house turned into a restaurant there are several tiny little rooms with hallways leading to each. I was not pleased though with the mushrooms that I ordered for my steak I am not exaggerating if I got two tablespoons of very overcooked dry mushrooms I was lucky. Just finished a spectacular dinner at Shilo Steakhouse. New owners have upgraded to prime beef from Nebraska, renovated the restaurant, and are making tremendous improvements to the menu and service. The PRIME RIB was TOO GOOD!! I like it medium rare which is still very pink but since it is slow cooked first it is just perfect. Tender, juicy and full of flavor!! We sat in the back room but it was perfect for our cranky 1 year old. The service was still great even though we where tucked away and we got everything out at once. We came because the reviews where good and we where not disappointed. We had three prime ribs at the table. The other two where medium well and they enjoyed theirs two. The kids got a Greek salad that was big and yummy, almost all gone with a little help my me and Dad, a burger that got scarfed down and a corn dog that was devoured by the hungry 1 year old. All of the steaks we ordered here were horrible. We got the elk, buffalo, New York strip, and filet mignon. The elk pretty much just fell apart when we were trying to eat it. The buffalo was super dry despite the fact that we ordered it done medium. The New York strip tasted very bland and oily. The filet was also very bland and although it was the best out of the bunch it was still very disappointing. Overall everything was just sad. If they had had some decent service they could have gotten a better review but essentially the only service we got was being seated and having our order taken. They never once asked how our food was and simply sat a pitcher of water on our table to serve ourselves. Finally you'd expect it would be easy to get a check but unfortunately even that was a struggle. We literally had to leave our table and go find a server in order to get our check. For a meal that costed over $100 I can't help but feel as though I were almost stolen from considering how bad everything was. Shiloh Steakhouse exceeded my expectations! We were hungry. I had my doubts, but we were pleasantly surprised. It was delicious! Husband had the ribeye, and said it was one of the best steaks he's had. I had the wild-caught coho salmon. It was delicious! I got a loaded baked potato for my side. Yum. Husband had the garlic mashed potatoes and liked them. The cheesecake looked scrumptious, but we were to full to try it. Beers are bottled with a decent select ion of local and big box selections. We would probably never have considered coming here if not for the chance encounter with a random stranger in the middle of nowhere. Huh?! We were driving across Colorado and the wife wanted to stop by a jerky store in the middle of nowhere. Obliging, the next jerky available sign we saw, I pulled over (well down this bumpy farm lane) to stop so we could get some. Jerky isn't cheap and that place had plenty to choose from. As we we chatting to the friendly lady in the store she mentioned that if you like it, they are affiliated with Shiloh Steakhouse in Cortez about 250 miles away..... 250 miles?! As it happens we would be passing Cortez after our visit to Mesa Verde and staying the night at a hotel in Cortez. We didn't have anything specific in Cortez to eat and this would beat fast food...again. This place did more than beat fast food, it obliterated it. This place was excellent. You drive up and it looks like a well landscaped house on the outside. You walk in and it looks like a converted cottage. We were able to step out the back and get a table. The garden at the back made it seem like we had stepped into a different world. It was peaceful and tranquil. The breads seemed to be baked in house or at least tasted that good and when smothered with the butter and conserves it made you feel so comfortable and happy to be alive. I had the country fried elk which was huge and when I saw it ordered by someone else, the salivating started. It looked mouth watering in the extreme and when it arrived I began to attack it wholeheartedly. Each cut and crunchy bite was enjoyed throughout the meal. Even the wife thought it was really good and bested my high expectations. We were both way too full for dessert which was a shame as I'm sure that the selection of offer would have been delectable. Not sure where to eat as we were passing thru Cortez, CO we went with reviews from others. The Shiloh Steakhouse seemed to be getting RAVE reviews, so we decided to give it a chance. We were greeted at the door by Jermaine, who was very pleasant and welcoming. Once seated and enjoying our drinks we began to explore the menu. We were very impressed with the variety of food offered....Fish, pasta, Steak, Bison, Elk etc. We decided to try the Country fried Bison with garlic mashed potatoes. Food and service were excellent. Our waiter, Jermaine, was such a nice young man. You could tell he was proud of this restaurant, the owners, and the quality of food they offered. I thought the restaurant would like to know that we were very impressed with him as a waiter and employee. We will passing back thru Cortez in 2 weeks and will definitely stop again and try their bacon wrapped filet mignon, as it sounded delicious. read more

The service we received was awful. We paid over 100.00 for a meal that took an hour and half to prepare. People who came in after us had their food before we did. We where on our way to Cortez Colorado the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We actually got a recommendation from the hotel we stayed at. We looked them up on the net and found a menu. Called their number, it rang until the voicemail asked for our information to call them back. We figured they were busy. The Google search showed them open. Their web site showed them open. We visited the location. Sign on the door said they were closed. Had to eat so we eat elsewhere. Went back to the hotel room and looked them up again, as we know we saw that we showed them open, only this time we found a Facebook page. They did in fact state they were closed. After reviewing their Facebook page it appears this is very common practice to notify only via Facebook. No where else. If you know your going to be closed for Thanksgiving week you should post this on your web site. I posted on their FB page how disappointed I was for their lack of communication/notification, They simply removed my posts. So good or bad, hard to tell if you cant even try their food. All I can say, they don't feel bad about wasting my time, so maybe you should consider not wasting your time going there, you just may find them closed. read more

This looks like it used to be a house, converted into a restaurant. It is nice maybe rustic looking decor. The staff was friendly , attentive and the service was very good. Ate dinner here Thur. 6-26-08. Thur is Prime Rib night $22. They were out. So I tried the Rib eye steak also $22. The steak was very good, juicy, tender, cooked as I asked. It came with a salad, raspberry vinaigrette sounded good and was. I think this is where I had sweet potato fries, also very good. If you do get the prime rib ask how thick of a cut. They told me they were out because they only cooked one and the last people got a thinner slice than usual. I don't know if they discounted it. This is a small town so if you want steak, this is a good place. read more

We had a very nice meal here. Our family sat outside, near the pond, which our young kids loved. The bread was great. Our meals tasty. While the pie for dessert was not great, it was pretty good. The service was attentive and speedy. The only minor complaint regards my daughter's burger, which was ordered medium rare and came out medium. She still enjoyed the burger, though my wife would have likely sent it back as she's a stickler for a properly cooked piece of meat. We had two perfect steaks that came with a small loaf of bread, salad (or soup), and a side. In order, green salad with feta, NY strip, seasonal veg plus a green salad with bleu, a rib eye and a sliced tomato. Both accompanied by local wine and followed by house made cherry pie. For a restaurant with steakhouse in the name I expected a properly cooked steak. All the steaks ordered were over cooked, and mushy like thawed frozen meat. The special Elk burger on the menu came out almost raw and again with the consistency of thawed frozen meat. Our experience here was unenjoyable at best . Would not recommend. read more

We had a table out on their beautiful private, cozy patio with a coy pond. We all ordered something from the BBQ: top sirloin, bacon wrapped filet mignon and the bacon wrapped ground sirloin. The entrees included their homemade bread served with their berry-rhubarb jam - DELICIOUS! as well as a salad and a side dish (choose from a wide selection including baked potato, sweet potato fries, vegetable medley, etc.) Everything was very good and cooked to order. Wine list includes ok selection of California wines as well as some local wines so we decided to enjoy a Margarita. Service was friendly as well. TIP: bring mosquito repellant! read more

It was so dry and in my mind I kept trying to make up excuses as to why it was that way, like "Oh it's because we came late we made reservations for 8:30" or "Maybe it was alil slow n they were getting ready to close anyway" but every other time before was amazing... A nice fat juicy lobster tail to go alone with my filet mignon which by the way was a knock out! Loved it..
