Our first day back this winter & the family said let's go see J.R. Dad. J.R. Is one of the two founders & considered by many as a Sushi genius. There are new item menus, this season of course I had to try one and if you had to ask me the name of it I can't speak it right now cause I just got done walking however it was phenomenal. I let my daughter and wife do the ordering, but I ordered my own roll. Service impeccable, food, impeccable ambience perfect. It's the greatest Sushi spot... Funny thing is I just walked in the house from a 5 mile walk. Found my wife and daughter eating Shima sushi carryout tonight two nights in a row. We've had Shima way to go Jr...

Very well run establishment with the perfect mix of attentive professional service, high quality fish, carefully presented flavors and high quality libations. Charming restaurant in a strip mall near mile marker 88. Busy on a Saturday and I called earlier in the day and was told they were booked out. Appreciated the management's honesty and said maybe next time. An hour later they called back stating they had a cancel and could welcome us at a convenient time (big move in my book). Waiter (Nikko) was very warm and helpful with suggestions and selecting the meal. We had cocktails and appetizers and they were all high end. Then came the steady parade of high end sushi and rolls that was delicious. Highly recommend this spot if you are traveling through or staying in the area. You wont be disappointed.

Personally think this is the best sushi/asian fusion place in the keys. The portions are pretty big, fish is very fresh, staff is friendly, prices are reasonable, interior is modern Japanese. My favorite dish would probably be the tuna fried rice BUT we only tried 4 dishes so I would definitely try the pork belly rice next time.

Im from WI and ate here in 2023 on a grad school spring break trip with my friend twice on our time in the Keys, it was THAT good. I was so excited to bring my daughter and new husband here for our honeymoon. Everything was just as good as I remembered it. The flavors of all of the dishes were amazing. The food came out quickly and the server was very personable and kind. The sushi is soo good but honestly the Pistachio tiramisu was the star and one of the best desserts I've ever had. I will come to the Keys again just to eat here. I highly recommend coming here!

Food was amazing we had the spicy tuna crispy roll and the shrimp dumpling miso soup (on the spicy side) both were delicious! We then had 2 rolls - blue fin and rainbow presentation was beautiful and rolls were fresh! Small place so make sure you have reservations. Service was very good too!!

    Chicken and waffles

Visited for the first time, food was delicious and very fresh! The service was great too. They were very helpful in guiding us thru the menu and were so eager to make our experience memorable. I'm allergic to some things on the menu, so I opted for the chicken and waffles in a sushi bar, which, i know is adventurous. It was excellent! I asked for the sauces on the side and it was perfect. I'm glad they had the option. The restaurant was clean and welcoming. We will visit again soon.

Very fresh and delicious salmon bowl! I'm not vegetarian, but I wish they had better veg roll options for my veg head friends. Otherwise great and fresh food... Don't be shy with the tofu!

A hidden gem in the keys!! We have dined at a one star Michelin sushi restaurant and the quality of Shima was just as great as the Michelin star restaurant. The server was amazing and explained everything very well. We will definitely be back!

Wow! Who would have thought, one of the best sushi spots you'd find in Islamorada! Living in Miami, I've had my share of sushi, but this spot is definitely one of the best. So many good plates, my fave roll, the Plaza 88; however, everything was superb! Cool ambiance inside and decor despite being located in the typical keys shopping strip. Severs were all very nice also. This is now our go to spot when in the keys.

Yes it's located in one of those unassuming Florida strip malls, but the moment you cross the threshold you've arrived somewhere else. Somewhere very sexy and fun. The staff is friendly. The music is awesome. We were lucky enough to come for happy hour with half off all champagne, so we splurged on Veuve Cliquot. The spicy edamame had us tasting so we could try to replicate. I convinced my dining companion, who doesn't eat shellfish or red meat, to try the bao buns with duck. Perfect blend of flavors with very well shredded duck. All of their specialty rolls sound great. Several can be made larger for $8 more. We selected the Plaza 88 with spicy tuna, cucumber, avocado, fish and an incredible sauce. Out of this world. I wasn't ready for the fun to end, so the server offered to make me a spicy watermelon jalapeño martini. Chef's kiss. I look forward to my return whenever I'm in the Keys for dinner.

Checked out the new sushi restaurant @shimaislamorada ! Chef Junior, a local experienced restaurant European, along with Drew Tsang, brings fresh Japanese dishes to the keys, highlighting local fish. The welcoming energetic vibe the sushi bar crew (Junior and Jack) made the visit extra fun! And if sake or wine is your thing, you'll find an impressive wine list with prices ranging from casual to oh-you-so-fancy! I highly recommend the Wahoo Crudo, Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna, Island Crunch Futomaki, Smoked Grouper Sashimi Next time you are in the keys, check out these guys!

WOW! Complete excellent experience in the beautiful Florida Keys! Food, ambience and service were superb! The restaurant is beautiful and has a great vibe. The sushi bar seating seems to be the premier seating as you get to enjoy the master chefs create beautiful & tasty dishes. We had a great table and still enjoyed the view of the masters. Really nice selection of wines and crafty sake drinks. Oh the food.... We tried and loved the shashito peppers, the crispy rice tuna & salmon, the duck bao buns, and the pork belly fried rice!! Every dish was flavorful, plentiful and presented beautifully. The fried rice is not the norm and definitely the BEST we've ever had! Jennifer, our server, was patient and informative and truly made the night special. The manager (didn't get his name) was also lovely. Tip: save room for dessert! The bread pudding was out of this world! The Florida Keys never disappoints and Shima is a must stop!

Very nice staff, it was slow so services with quick. Only had 3 types of red wine despite like 20+ on the menu. Gyoza was great, soup was interesting and a real good portion for the price. Hibachi chicken was a great portion size, but was a bit bland. Sushi was rough. Good quality fish, but the rice was SUPER dry, even when drenched in soy sauce. Good value for the amount of food, especially given the islamorada curve. Probably won't come back for dinner, but a solid lunch spot for something that won't break the bank.

And yeah while I gave it 3 stars. It's actually a good 3 stars. Mainly because felt as though most of the food in the keys was pretty average. While it kind of was here as well, good things I can say was the place inside was nice and a good size considering it looked small outside. But inside it was nice, our service was whatever. Waitress didn't seem like she wanted to be there. But did her part to take care of us. The sushi was good and more on surprising side . The food is reasonably priced, especially compared to how most things in the keys are little more but it's understandable. Price didn't really matter too us but was something I noticed. It was a safe bet and glad we actually enjoyed it compared to a lot around. So yeah lean towards recommending if you are in the mood for sushi.
