We had heard about this spot for a while so we made our way down for dinner last night. This sushi was incredible, and the surf and turf was some of the best we've had in recent memory. We visited several restaurants while we were in the Keys, and this ended up being our favorite overall. It wasn't the best meal we've ever had, but it was definitely the best food we had during our trip. Our favorites were the conch fritters, which were delicious, and the Angus cheeseburger, which was honestly the best thing we ordered. The mussels were also excellent and full of flavor. The shrimp ceviche was decent, but it could have used a little more seasoning, citrus, or zest. It felt a bit dry and didn't have the bright, fresh flavor I was expecting. The seafood platter was the biggest disappointment, especially considering the price. The mahi was under seasoned, and the texture wasn't enjoyable. The crab cakes had a fishy taste, and while the scallops were just okay, the shrimp was actually very good. The sweet potato side was delicious, but overall the platter didn't feel like a good value for what was served. Overall, despite a few misses, this was still the best dining experience we had in the Keys. The service was good, and there were enough standout dishes that we'd come back. We come to Florida Steak & Lobster House every year with a party of 14, and we've always looked forward to it. We even made our reservation over a month in advance because this dinner has become a tradition for our family. Unfortunately, this year's experience has been incredibly disappointing. We've been sitting here for well over two hours and still have not been served our food, while multiple tables that arrived after us have already received their meals. We understand that large parties can take longer, but this delay has been excessive, especially with no clear communication about what was happening. If the restaurant is no longer able to accommodate parties of this size, it would be appreciated if that was communicated when reservations are made instead of having guests wait for hours. It genuinely saddens me to write this because this restaurant has always been one of the highlights of our annual trip. We have been visiting the Florida Keys from Northeast Florida for over 20 years and have our go to spots from Key Largo to Key West but always like trying new ones. This is not a typical spot I would have thought about as its exterior looks a little touristy and that's not our thing but based on the recommendations, we gave it a try for lunch and were not disappointed at all. I am a vegetarian but my hubby and Dad love meat and fresh seafood. They had a menu that accommodated us all. I had the tofu spicy rice bowl which was delicious and huge. I took more than half back to our rental house for others to try. My hubby had the bacon cheeseburger with fries and really enjoyed his burger but the fries were not good. It tasted as if the oil was old. My Dad had the blackened mahi sandwich which was a very generous portion and he loved it. He also had the sweet potato waffle fries and enjoyed those. I had several adult drinks and my Dad had a few beers. Our server Matice was very nice. My only complaint would be he brought my starter salad with my entree so that didn't work for me. We come here often but recently the experience has gone down. I ordered my go-to order, the Caesar salad with chicken and then gave me the skinniest pieces of like half a breast of chicken. What a great place. Took the wife and kids here after another restaurant was too busy and couldn't sit us for 2 hours. We ended up sitting at the bar to eat and had the best experience. The food was excellent. Everything we ordered was perfect. Our server/bartender named Debbie was a huge part of why we loved it so much. She was so kind and her service was top notch, and the rum old fashion she made me was perfect. We ordered the snapper with crab, Ceasar salad, bacon wrapped scallops, kids got sushi rolls, and we had some fried calamari. Everything was excellent. Great roadside restaurant in the keys! We were busy all day and didn't find time for lunch until about 2pm. The parking lot at the steak and lobster house had several cars at this time, so we figured this was a good sign. Didn't try the cocktails, but did order 1/2 lb peel and eat shrimp from the happy hour menu, and they were delicious - 6 giant shrimp for a great happy hour price! We had the grilled brie; didn't care for the crackers and the berry compote was just okay, but the brie was lovely and the presentation was beautiful. Philly cheesesteak sandwich was loaded with steak and peppers, and the queso-style cheese was a nice variation from the "traditional" Philly. Blue crab burger was very tasty with a large crab cake and the sauce was really good. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, we did not have to wait for drink refills and she was helpful with menu questions. I generally don't eat at the same place twice while I'm on vacation, but may make an exception for the FL Keys Steak and Lobster house. Came here for lunch on my way up back to Miami. I've been dying to come here and try one of their dishes since I saw it on social media, and boy did it not disappoint. First of all, our server was really kind and attentive. He brought us delicious fresh French bread with these super nice butter balls. When entering the host was very nice- we had a party of 13.- our waiter was friendly and efficient- he couldn't keep up with the drinks and charged us for food we didn't get - I should have checked- he said they might have the item- they didn't but still charged I had the tuna and the crab balls- they were delicious. Then when seated we waited 15 mins before we got a server, and only because I stopped and asked someone. We didn't get a cocktail menu, so I asked a busboy and he gave me the happy hour thing from another table. I finally went back to the hostess and asked for the cocktail menu. No one explained the early bird specials until it was too late. It took over an hour from when we finally got a server until we got our meals. Describing the Florida Keys Steak & Lobster House as having an "upscale yet relaxed atmosphere" requires a very generous interpretation of the word "upscale." We found nothing particularly upscale about this restaurant. White tablecloths alone do not create an upscale dining experience. This is, by any reasonable standard, a very casual restaurant, with most of the male patrons dressed in shorts and T-shirts. To make matters worse, despite making reservations through OpenTable, we were seated at what felt like the worst table in the restaurant--tucked away in the back next to the handicap restroom. It certainly was not the experience we expected when making a reservation in advance. We ordered the surf and turf. The lobster was good, but the steak was disappointing. To the restaurant's credit, they removed the steak from our bill without hesitation, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the overall experience fell well short of our expectations. While the staff handled the issue with the steak professionally, the combination of the atmosphere, seating, and food quality left us underwhelmed, and we will not be returning. read more

They have many of the usual choices across lunch and dinner menus that provide a bit of everything for everyone, ranging from the usual burgers, seafood, and fritters, to even lasagna or sushi. The generous portions will leave you satisfied, with plenty to save for later. This was true of pretty much everything my party ordered. Best happy hour we found in Marathon! They run it from 11 to 6 and the deals are awesome. The buffalo shrimp was incredible and the portion was huge for only seven bucks. I also tried the tuna tataki and it was the best thing there. The chicken wings are massive too, so you definitely get your money's worth. The staff was just okay, but the food more than made up for it. Highly recommend stopping in for happy hour. At lunch it is not the fanciest place but at dinner it transitions to much more upscale. First off, Beverly was one of the best servers we've ever had and we are foodies. Her knowledge of the menu, the area, and her conversations with us in general, made her one of the best. The menu was incredibly large with multiple things that I wanted to try. I ended up going with the lobster fra diovolo, and my wife went with the prime rib. For apps we got the conch fritters and baked Brie. Wow! Everything was perfect. Even the cocktails were mixed right. No commercial mixes, but cocktails made the right way. Seasoning? None. Lobster? Overcooked and rubbery. Service? Mediocre at best. We came here for my daughter's 20th birthday. We didn't actually celebrate it with dessert or anything because we just wanted to let the waitress be done with us. She was disgusted that we were there from the beginning. Blonde, middle age female with a sequined bow tie. Zero personality, shitty attitude. Planned to order appetizers but the waitress skipped that and just went right to taking our entree orders. She didn't tell us about any specials or anything about the menu. I specifically had to ask what she recommended and she said the Bolognese or seafood pasta, no additional discussion. I got the seafood pasta. The shrimp and the lobster had the tails on them... no big deal but the lobster was so tough I couldn't even cut it with a butter knife or my fork. Shrimp had zero flavor. I had to use the steak knife to cut the lobster. Bolognese was basically tomato meat sauce from the jar, like you would put on spaghetti at home. It was not a richer, slow-cooked meat sauce with vegetables and a small amount of tomato. The others had the steak and lobster, again the lobster was tough and had to be cut with a steak knife. My husband had fried shrimp for 31.95. You can get much better shrimp at Burdine's for 19.95. Also, delicious perfectly cooked lobster and incredible service at Castaway. I probably would have been okay with my extremely mid food.... Had the waitress actually acted like she wanted to be there. We didn't even ask her for anything extra or make her go out of her way to do extra work. When she put my daughter's pasta down on the table she almost hit her in the face with it; I let it slide. There's so many great places to eat and we have tried just about all of them over the last 5 years. Many of them we go to multiple times a week. This isn't a place I would choose to go back to, not even to give it a second chance. I'm sorry.... Bad service for a $200 something meal for 4 people with only one beer isn't on my list of things to do. I don't mind paying for a good meal but it has to also come with good service and this was not it. The restaurant is huge inside. Our waitress was Kathleen who was very attentive and answered all the questions we had. My wife ordered their crab cake entree with a house salad and baked potato. I ordered their onion soup bacon wrapped scallops with Oysters Rockefeller with my entree of a 6oz broiled lobster tail baked potato and asparagus. Seams like a lot to eat but I love midnight snacks. Our appetizers came out in under 10 min. And all were fantastic and delicious. Before I could finish my onion soup our mains were delivered. My wife's crab cakes were huge and I was told full of crab meat. My broiled lobster tail was done perfectly and very tasty. The baked potato was perfectly done and delicious. The asparagus was tender and fresh. The only thing I found they could have done better was to clarify the butter but I ain't bitching. That was the only thing I could find in the whole meal! I have mixed feelings here. A lot of good, and bad. Appetizer we had potato skins and it was DELICIOUS! Highly recommend it. Our entrees came with free bottle of wine which is fantastic. The service was good and we asked to be moved to another table due to lighting and they accommodated it immediately despite the business. Salad was delicious, as well as the fresh bread. Atmosphere was also busy, but well separated and cute. Entrees are where it gets rough. We got the tofu bowl and it was very not good. The tofu was extremely wet, and unseasoned. The ride with it was complete mush. I got the lobster Po'Boy and there were shells in mine making it inedible. Unfortunate spend of $26. Unfortunately resulting in both of entrees being inedible. We ended with the Banana split bomb which was fantastic. So there's some good, and some bad. Overall a cute place. I'm going to chalk up my first visit to FKS&LH as a learning experience. While I do believe there is indeed a way to get a 4* or maybe even 5* meal out of the restaurant, what I experienced fell short. Here's the trick: Go early. Looking at the Early Bird Specials menu, it's hard to eat in the dining room after 8pm and not feel like you are getting gouged. I understand that portion sizes may be different. Certainly the regular dining menu offers many more choices. But the regular sized entrees are enormous, and I do not say that as a note in the restaurant's favor. Should you go later in the night, plan to split entrees. You'll have more than enough food, and will still likely be too full to eat dessert. Speaking of dessert, if you fancy the Key Lime Pie, do ask for it without the drizzle of key lime sauce, and I'd also recommend skipping the whipped cream which had an off flavor to me. The other advantage of going early, at least I suspect, is that the dining room will be a little more quiet. On a Friday night this place was LOUD. Egads, was it loud. It was the kind of loud where when you step outside, your entire body breathes a sigh of relief. Perhaps Early Birds, working with a more limited menu, also get faster service from the kitchen. Wow, did the food take a long time to come to the table. Our server insisted it was because the kitchen cooks everything from scratch, which felt like a bit of an overstatement especially after tasting the whipped cream on the Key Lime PIe. But given how long it takes to cook fish and steaks, I suspect the kitchen is simply too small for the size of the dining room. As far as the food that we ordered, my whole fried snapper was a treat. I did split it with one other person. The sautéed spinach was swimming in a bowl of oil and the baked sweet potato was drowning in melted butter. It was a bit dry and benefited from the mayo based pepper sauce. The Conch Fritters were fine, but there are better available elsewhere on the key. The Key Lime Pie was also okay without the drizzle or the whipped cream, but again there are better examples of this lovely treat on the key. If you want to spend a lot of money and be served a truckload of food soaked in butter and oil, you've found your spot. Especially if you don't really want to talk with your dining companions. Or, if you are hungry for dinner on the early side and can score a reservation for the Early Bird Special, you've got a solid option on your hands. Some members of my family enjoyed the spot more than I did. Some enjoyed it less. As always, your milage may vary. For me, I might be compelled to return, but if left to my own devices I'm happier at some of the more casual open air spaces... even if I have to listen to yet another cover of Jimmy Buffet. read more
