Made reservations for 7pm on a Friday, upon recommendation from a local acquaintance. Arrived early, about 6:15, and had a short wait while a table was freed. Hostess was very polite and friendly. We were taken to a table for two near the open service counter, where I could watch the comings and goings. Ordered cocktails, then two sandwiches, which we intended to split. My first double old-fashioned was excellent. As was my wife's whisky sour. The Cuban sandwich was somewhat flat, as the bread had been pressed to almost cracker consistency. The shrimp po-boy was on the other extreme of fluffiness. Both would have been better served by a mama-bear middle ground. My 'southern' Cole slaw was finely chopped to a near gritty consistency, which robbed it of most of the crunch. My wife's garlic green beans were undercooked-- we do better at home. My second old fashioned was much stronger than the first, and not enjoyable. My wife remarked about the noise level, and the inability to relax and converse peacefully. Waited 45 minutes for food never ordered from bar server that she admitted she forgot to do! Unacceptable and she was unapologetic as well as the Sunday night manager! Gio, the spectacular, magnificent, and magical bartender allowed us to call on his delightful artistry all night. He never failed to impress. Our time with Gio was so wonderful, that by the time we got to Savannah--bless her soul--she had a spirited group on her hands. She's a pro. Not only did we have extraordinary service, Shine's food is other worldly. The Thai Curry and the sweet potato ravioli were...To. Die. For. Literally: ask me to die and I will. We were maybe 5 minutes early for our reservation so they hostess sent us to the bar to wait. I decided on a mint julep which was good and strong. Once we were seated our waiter was attentive and made some recommendations to us. I like the steak well done, and I was advised up front that they don't like to cook if more than medium? If I'm a paying customer, why can't you cook steak as I order. We were hungry so I asked for it to be closer to medium well. It came out with a pretty underdone center, which was disappointing. I also didn't care for the duck fat fries which had an odd flavor. My husband got the picanha steak and it also wasn't cooked well and the meat quality was mediocre for the price. read more

Over priced and too loud inside to hear one's self think. It was pandemonium on the main floor Thursday night, so our party of five was relegated down a steep and deep staircase to the "cellar." Although some upstairs noise bled through cracks, the absence of direct head-pounding loud music promised a more pleasant dinner together. But the basement is acoustically hard on all six sides - walks, floor, and ceiling. Constant drunken shouting at other tables regularly registered 75 - 80 dB and occasionally 90 dB** on my cellphone app.*** Also, I question management's decision offer an expensive upscale rarefied sophisticated menu and yet serve iced tea in dinky little fruit jars with no choice but sugar or stevia to sweeten it. Despite difficulties hearing each other over the din, the young waitress very graciously and efficiently delivered more PB jars of tea as needed by the DD. I took some colleagues here for dinner. We we're running a tad late for our reservation, but were seated promptly upon arrival. We ordered several appetizers, including the coconut shrimp and Pork belly bites along with bucket of mussels. I had the NY strip, well cooked and tender. The service was good. The only complaint I had was that my 2nd old fashioned tasted more like a double of whiskey rather than an old fashioned, but I didn't send it back. Located in downtown Hendersonville, this was a great spot for dinner. The decor is chic industrial, but still warm and inviting. We sat at the bar. Since we had a late lunch, we decided to eat off the appetizer menu. I had the Hawaiian Tuna Poke and my fiancée had the Duck Fat Fries. Both were great, generous portions. Was invited for Sunday luncheon for my birthday. I have been to Shine several times (live nearby), and it was below par yesterday. We were quickly seated near the front corner away from the bar. The sound system is powerful, and the music is nothing I recognize or like. Where we were seated, you only get the booming bass thumping away with no norecognizable lyric or melody. Hard to hear other people at your table unless you speak loudly. I wish they would fix that. It's always been very noisy on previous visits, but on Sunday morning, it was a bother. I ordered the banh mi sandwich, but was told this was out (one hour after opening) - changed to French dip sandwich with a side of black bean salad. Ordered she crab soup appetizer. Soup was lukewarm, and could have been Campbells. No crab noted, although there were bits of something that might have been that, with only a buttery/tomato flavor. Meh. The French dip was also disappointing, beef sliced like Arby's, little flavor, and even the sauce seemed diluted. Black bean salad OK - small serving. With a draft beer, my share of the tab was $37 before tip. Generally, I don't find Shine to be all that good. The service was OK. They absolutely need to reduce the noise level, start with the boomy sound system. Seating in the basement is a bad option. For me, the quality/cost is just not there. However, I must be in the minority, as they always seem to have a full house, and if you value being in a noisy crowded setting, it would be a plus. read more

This very fine establishment is the Jewel of restaurants in Hendersonville. "The Wife and I have been eating here every time we visit NC mountains for the last two years. Never a bad meal from their vast array of offerings. The pretzels and a beer from large assortment of beers are our go to things to start our meals. The bar is large and comfortable, every item we had from the menu has been fantastic, and the staff is very attentive without being over bearing. Shine does just that......it shines. Would not get the side of potatoes again- some weird spice I didn't like. My husband got the chicken and waffles. He liked it but wouldn't get again. Didn't love the chicken breading. Never had a bad meal and would say everything I have ever had was wonderful. Their shrimp & grits are the best I've had outside New Orleans - I only wish it came with some bread. Literally the worst omelet I've ever had. The "Sides" came out prior to the meal. They were all cold: biscuits and cold gravy and cool home fries (potatoes). Typically I wouldn't complain but the flavor...... let's go: gravy was OVERSATURATED with rosemary. Home fries were actually well flavored but surprisingly spicy "/ The omelet was completely coagulated with a soupy underbelly. The restaurant was well designed. ....and the service was (the server asked about the meal and instantly brought warm biscuit/gravy and potatoes) because let's be real- they're already premade and shouldn't ever come out cold. Nor should an omelette take 20++ min to make. Also while I'm being honest: the music was almost excruciatingly loud. 10/10 do NOT recommend the ppl beside me looked unhappy as well. We spent the weekend in the area and wanted to grab some lunch before we headed home. We found shine via Yelp and it looked really good. Really glad that we stopped in because everything was on point. The inside of the restaurant was really cool, service was amazing and the food really hit the spot. I had the House Beef Burger and it was cooked to perfection. Everything was good about my burger. Juicy, good toppings and the fries were cooked just right. We got the spinach fettuccini and the mushroom pasta. Inside is super nice with a great bar area. Their staff were very friendly and pleasant. The spinach Alfredo had a delicious sauce (which I pretty much at with a spoon at the end...). I was a honestly a little hesitant about burrata on a pasta dish but it was actually very good. The mushroom pasta was extremely tasty but very very rich. Don't think I could eat a whole order of it by myself (but I'm sure I'd try haha!) We had a reservation for later in the evening, but arrived about 45 minutes early into town. We asked if they had room and the hostess got us seated right away. Our server was attentive without intruding on our meal, and the goal cheese salad was outstanding. My wife enjoyed her pork tenderloin, and the flavor on her french onion soup was great (even if soup was a couple of degrees colder than she would have preferred) My steak special was prepared as requested, and had good flavor. Our first time at Shine. We were greeted with a smile and shown to our table. It was rather busy. The place has a big noise issue being huge with lots of brick and unpadded walls, some noise cancellation mediation is absolutely needed as you cannot have a decent conversation without really talking very loud. Our waiter came right away and was nice. Menu is a bit all over the place. Drinks were served but our wine by the glass was off and needed to be replaced. The tuna poke was very fresh, great cut of fish and the dressing was delicious. However, it should be served with bread or crostinis. I ordered baguette with whipped butter to go with it, that fixed the balance. She crab soup specials was well executed. Beef tartar was presented in "classic european swallow nest" style. I liked that. However, badly seasoned and no pepper or salt was offered by server nor was it available at the table. So nice looking but blant. The toasted bread served with it had a strange taste of rancidity. Caccio e peppe are "unconventional" at best, it looks like the chef tried to be different, but did not quite get it. Blobs of lemon ricotta (?),with not much lemon, and pasta in a sea of oil. So, overall a mediocre experience in a loud place with a great waiter. Not worth going back to at this point. read more

Fish was ok.. not much taste, the bacon braised beans were not on the side, but most of the dish and were so salty I couldnt eat them. Drinks were good. Dessert was really good. Wow what a neat place to eat, it gives you an upscale type vibe. It doesn't have to be, we wore jeans and a T-shirt and was perfectly fine. Well for libations I ordered the black cherry cola slushy...... aaah yes please!!!! Too bad you can't order these to go.... I would bought a couple lol. They will sneak up on you so be careful. Now on to the main course, I ordered the lobster roll and fries as I was not that hungry. After a bit the food started coming out.... My mouth was watering for the warm, juicy lobster that I was about to eat!!! First bite.... Cold lobster... HUH??? So I tried from the middle.... Yeah barely warm... I guess that they relied on the hot roll to heat the lobster??? Or heaven forbid they left it ready to pick up under a less than hot lamp. Well it was good, the flavor was spot on for a good roll... just the temperature..... I don't know about you but cold lobster at this price is a shame... If we return, I will give this one more shot... if it comes out cold I will send it back and get something else... Over all it is a great place to eat, our entire party loved their food. We came here for dinner tonight after plans at another restaurant in walking distance fell through. Shine was packed, but they got us seated immediately. To start, my wife and I got a mint julep and Bloody Mary - both were excellent. For appetizers, we ordered their baguette and stuffed mushrooms. The basil butter that comes with the baguette is absolutely heavenly! This is the only time I have brought left over bread and butter to go. The mushrooms were decent. For entrees we got a smash burger and the spinach fettuccine. My wife was a big fan of her smash burger and the spinach fettuccine was so flavorful and filling. Our server, Callie, was so nice and knowledgeable. She made sure our waters were never less than half full. Our meals came out quickly and at no time did we feel rushed to leave. Finally got to Hendersonville a few Sunday's ago for Brunch. Had not been to H'Ville in many years, so I was excited to see some good eating spots in downtown! We did not have a reservation, so we ate at the high-top community table in the bar area...which was perfect. The aesthetics of this place are gorgeous with lots of brick, wood and industrial fixtures. Even the bathrooms are beautiful!! Our waitress was very nice and attentive on this busy Sunday. She even helped to create a sweet brunch cocktail that I would enjoy. I ordered the French Dip with fries and it was exactly what I was craving. The fries are delicious, I'm thinking they are double-fried as they were so crispy on the outside yet still soo soft on the inside. Uncle Thom ordered the Banh-Mi sandwich with Black Bean Salad as a side. He has always wanted to try a Banh-Mi sandwich and he did enjoy the flavors. However, the only feedback we gave the waitress was the bread to meat ratio was off (lots of bread). Of course, that didn't stop Uncle Thom from eating every last bight. Chef please listen up. You either need to listen to your customer base and dial down the heat on the Bugatini or put a big hot pepper icon beside the mean. All the ingredients are wonderful but when I like hot and I can't eat my meal, it's a big disappointment. To start, we love Shine. The outdoor ambiance is lovely- immersed in downtown Hendersonville. Their menu is diverse and can feed anyone in your group. However- the service and management is subpar to say the least. We ordered the scallop and beef curry (which has been taken off the menu) and it was just awful. U-10 scallops need a hard sear to start. The scallops were just barely cooked over the broth. They were chewy and indigestible. Not to mention the beef; even the sharpest knife would have needed to saw through it just to be met with a tough unseasoned bite. Being a split- my mom and I tried some of the entree and proceeded to eat a bite of the rice and veg provided while we waited endlessly for the server or anyone to make note that it was inedible. Upon waiting for ages, we were finally greeted by a manager who was less than friendly to say the least. She said "you have eaten too much and we cannot take it back. The best I can offer is a free dessert." Being in the industry myself for almost a decade- she should have checked the ticket/service time to understand the caliber of the situation. It was a very inconsiderate and inappropriate way to handle the situation. Attention to detail is pivotal and they dropped the ball majorly in that regard. We popped in for brunch on a Sunday and were pleased that they were able to seat us right away. Our server was really sweet and pleasant. We ordered the biscuit basket and they were delicious, soft and warm. I ordered the grilled chicken Caesar which was good but overdressed for my liking. My husband and I have visited Hendersonville and had never tried Shine until a couple of weeks ago, and we'll NEVER visit Hendersonville again without eating here! Everything from the food, drinks, service, and atmosphere was amazing. We actually ate here twice during our visit. Jenny was our server, and she was outstanding. She never let our drinks run dry, had great recommendations, didn't pressure us in any way, and even asked about substitutions for me without any attitude. The first time we ate here, we ate the stuffed mushrooms, duck confit sandwich with vegetable medley, and peanut butter pie. Everything was DELICIOUS! The house made hollandaise sauce and peanut butter pie stole the show! I could eat that pie daily! For brunch, my husband had "the best eggs Benny of his life!" and I had the duck fat fries, she crab soup, and boom boom shrimp. The fries were good, not the best I've ever had, but I would order them again. The she crab soup was creamy, crabby and scrumptious. I had the Cheerwine bourbon slushy, and it was PERFECT!
