Shines by far was the best bar on the West End. Every night we ended our night at Shines until closing time. Great vibe, great people, fun & low key atmosphere while the drinks flowed. It's easy to make new friends there, especially with their friendly staff. Kevin was the best! Cheers

Not much to say that has not already been said about this Long Beach icon: great little place to pull up a stool and enjoy a pint. Atmosphere is cozy -- to be expected from any Irish pub worth its salt -- and the barkeeps provide a steady flow of drinks. Place is cash only. They have an ATM on the wall if a). you do not carry cash (me, always) or b). you did not bring a good friend who always carries cash. Prices are super fair at $6/pint or $8 for a liberally-poured mixed drink (also served in a pint glass). Was a welcome (and obligatory) site to see Guinness poured correctly (i.e., pouring it in stages and letting it settle). They have a paid jukebox (always a crowd pleaser), pool and darts. Darts are free but pool is $2/game (fair). One area for improvement: there was an awkward silence when everyone stopped paying for songs in the jukebox. A default playlist should probably be configured to kick in if no one is ponying up the cash for more songs. General words of wisdom: this place is an absolute zoo on Irish Day. If that is your thing, you are in luck! If not, stop by any other time -- I think you will have a far more enjoyable experience (and one with far less Guinness spilled on you).

Shines? Well........ It's sort of an enigma, it really has no signs of its hours of operation, there's always people there, it's on a residential block but yet no complaints and hardly any music, a total dive, walk by it at 9am and there's someone having a beer with friends.... They do a NY to California bike tour which is 2 blocks btw. A classic LB dive. If I were a drinker this would be my bar of choice. The end.

Local casual bar where the locals hang. Never had a bad time there but if your looking for some place clean and shinny move on!

Let me start off by saying my complements to the chef for coming up with their one of many signature meals. I ordered The Burger Wrap. It was actually so tasty I couldn't stop talking about it with my friends yesterday night. For that I gave 5 stars. The service was very attentive. As someone who has come to this bar regularly to watch Knicks playoff games, I can confidently say…read moreI will never return after what happened during the NBA Finals last night. What this bar pulled was completely unacceptable. They were openly reserving seats at the bar for certain people while telling everyone else they were unavailable. There was no advertised reservation policy, no advance notice, and no opportunity offered to regular customers. Apparently, the only way to get a seat is to know the owner, know the bartenders, or be part of the inner circle. What made it even worse was that my group had been sitting at the bar, ordering food and drinks starting around 7:30 PM, only to be forced out of our seats at 7:45 PM. The reservation signs on those seats clearly stated they were reserved for 8:15 PM. We were paying customers actively spending money, yet we were removed 30 minutes before the supposed reservation time. That is absolutely egregious behavior. I've worked in sports bars and have owned sports bars in New York City. In all my years in the business, I have never heard of reserving seats directly at the bar--especially during a major sporting event. It goes against everything that makes a sports bar successful. Bar seats have always been first-come, first-served. That's Sports Bar 101. I've spent plenty of money here over the years because it was always a great place to watch big games: good atmosphere, sound on the TVs, and a fun crowd. Unfortunately, last night proved that customer loyalty means absolutely nothing. Regular patrons were treated like second-class citizens while preferred customers received special treatment. For a bar that markets itself as a neighborhood sports destination, this was incredibly disappointing, unprofessional, and frankly insulting. If you're planning to watch a major game here, don't assume you'll be treated fairly. Unless you're friends with the right people, don't expect the same experience as everyone else. There are plenty of other sports bars in Brooklyn that understand how to treat customers. After last night, I'll be spending my money there instead. I won't be back, and I certainly won't be recommending this place to anyone. Let's Go Knicks

They've also got a great lineup of local beers if that's more your speed too. It's the kind of place where you can cheer, snack, and sip without missing a play. Darts and photobooth available to round out the fun. Friendly staff, fun energy, and a crowd that actually feels like neighbors.
