    Lunch combo with Moringa Soba
    John C.

One of the very few places that specialize in Soba noodles on the island! This was the perfect lunch - light, cool and refreshing, and doesn't leave you feeling heavy because it's soba! We had the lunch combo, one with curry and the other with tempura rice bowl. It's a very good portion and it reminds me of the soba noodles I had in Japan. It tastes the same! The cold broth is full of flavor and is perfect for beating the hot and humid weather here. Glad we came across this place and we'll absolutely come back while living here! Service was fast and efficient. We sat and the bar and got our food within 5 mins. It's inside a food hall, so expect a lively atmosphere. Highly recommend!!

We decided to have dinner in Stix Asia and my sister raves about the ube udon in Shingen so we decided to go there! We each got a combo set with the ube udon and tempura. I added an egg as an additional topping/side. The food was tasty! The ube udon tasted like regular udon haha but it was cool to look at and eat! The tempura was nice and crispy. Overall, the set was a pretty good portion size! The restaurant was pretty big and since not all tables were filled, we got seated right away. Service was quick and I appreciate how they give a kama'aina discount! This spot is a great choice if you want to have dinner in Stix Waikiki!

This place is a hidden gem in the food court of Waikiki Shopping Plaza. My wife and I were just walking around after our day at North Shore. I wanted something light to eat and something cold and we found Shingen. The waiter Kayin was very friendly and very helpful. I had the cold soba and my wife had a mini beef bowl. I also had the grilled beef tongue and pork belly skewers. All the food were amazing and Kayin even gave me a special tea you make with some of the soba water with the left over soba sauce. At first I thought it was a weird idea but it turned out to be the perfect ending for a cold soba meal. Excellent customer service from Kayin. You have to give this place a try next time you are in the area. I highly recommend them.

If you're looking for a way to cool off in the Hawai'i heat, head down to STIX food hall and straight to Shingen for the cold soba noodles. They offer 3 types of soba noodles, each with their own unique flavours and texture. My favourite is the Ube soba. It's a great light and refreshing meal or add a small don if you're feeling extra hungry. The female server is super sweet and was very kind to our kids and offered us Sobayu after our meal. It was perfect!

Styx in general has a lunch special until 3pm on weekends. The special varies from place to place and at Shingen is a soba and don combo. I wasn't feeling hungry enough to get both, so I just got the beef tsuke. The store only had one server, since it was a Sunday and also a small location. So things may take a little time to cook. The store markets itself on health benefits. It has a special moringa noodle option, but I played it safe with the regular noodles. (The "healthy" food aspect also seems to up the price compared to some other restaurants in Styx.) The portion felt small for 21, but I am not the target demographic, so I do not know how it compares to other health conscious places. The meat is lightly warmed but went well with the soba. It had a spicy kick at the end, and when dipped in the sauce, it got a jerky like depth added to the flavor. They did not offer the sobayu, so I think you need to specifically ask for it. It was great to try, and has a very authentic experience, but for the price, it is better to save it for a special event.

After our workout, we were trying to keep it light--so soba sounded like a solid idea. I've been to Shingen before, and their soba is the bomb dot com, so we headed there without hesitation. Did we keep it light? Ehh... not really. We accidentally also ordered the takoyaki and the ribeye skewer. No regrets on the takoyaki--it was crispy, creamy, and downright delectable. The ribeye skewer though... big miss. Super chewy, like it was doing a workout of its own. On the bright side, the service was great! Our server was super friendly and even hooked us up with the Wi-Fi password and the bathroom code--what a nice dude. Also, you get 15% off for Kamaaina...make sure to show your ID to get the D!

Perfect fast casual dining option in Stix food court. Ordered the special combo from the lunch menu. They offer soba, moringa soba, and ube udon and your choice of tempura don, curry and rice, or beef bowl with rice and onsen egg. The tempura was lightly covered in a sweet/savory sauce that seeped onto the rice, so good! The cold soba paired well with the dipping sauce. The thin sweet stewed beef and onsen egg were satisfying. Service is pretty quick and they offer the lunch special combo at a special price from $20.80 to $18.80. Great portion size for lunch. They also offer 15% Kama`aina discount.

This place is a hidden gem! We just found this spot and loved the food and service. Best soba I've ever had and one of my favorite spots so far! The noodles are soooo good!! Would highly recommend!

Wow, wow, wow... the soba here is on another level. Both the classic and the spirulina noodles were beautifully made, with that perfect bite, and the broth was so flavorful without being heavy. The tempura was crisp, light, and never oily, which is not easy to pull off. The quality absolutely shines, and while the prices are higher than the simple ten-zaru soba you'd get in Japan, the craftsmanship really shows. We'd come back in a heartbeat.

Love soba noodles at Shingen!! Continuing to enjoy soba noodles at the Stix Asian Food Hall in lower level of Waikiki Shopping Plaza. I've been looking for opportunities to dine here, after going to their Stadium Square location in Moiliili. Noodles, especially soba noodles, are my krytonite. We ordered the special combo featuring choice of noodle with mini donburi. It was a warm evening so I chose cold moringa soba with tendon. My dining companions chose hot ube udon with ahi poke bowl and hot moringa soba with tendon. Ask for kamaaina discount when ordering. Gracious service especially considering it's located in a food hall and it was an especially busy evening (Spam Jam food festival). Park in Waikiki Shopping Plaza lot; limited street parking for the lucky few. Parking validation in WSP only for 2 hours with minimum receipts of $35, available Monday-Friday from 5-10 pm and on weekends from 11 am-10 pm.

We dined during lunch and had the ube udon noodles and char siu bowl. The food was excellent and the service was also amazing. Our server was Nick and he was very quick and attentive.

I highly recommend this place. Came here at about 7:30 pm Monday evening; Ordered beef tongue skewer (on the regular menu), wagyu skewer (on their special menu) and ube (purple yam) cold noodle; All of them are delicious. The skewers are juicy and tender, extra good with the dipping paste, called "yuzu kosho", which adds layers of flavors. Kayin is a very sweet and helpful server. He responded positively and highlighted his recommendation of using yuzu kosho. Very chill and relaxing :)

We happened upon Shingen by chance while looking for a dinner spot near our hotel. The restaurant is located inside the STIX Asia Food Hall and we're so glad we happened upon a gem upon so many other options. The option for cold noodles was what sold us, since the weather was warm and we wanted something to cool us down. We ordered the Seiro (plain cold noodle with dipping sauce) - one order with ube udon and one order with moringa soba. I loveddddd the ube udon while my husband really enjoyed the moringa soba. The ube udon has a mild flavor with a chewy texture, perfectly soaking up the dipping sauce. The moringa soba has an earthy flavor and is less chewy, but also pairs well with the dipping sauce. I highly recommend trying out the cold noodles if you're looking for something light and refreshing. I enjoyed it so much that I came back twice, and each time was as good as the last.

Natto kake soba. Best bowl full of slime! Will come back in a heartbeat!

Food here is great! It's not that easy to find a simple soba place here in Hawaii, believe it or not. The tempura is good too!

Had the soba tempura don lunch set and it was really disappointing. Rice was bad, soba was soggy, tempura too much batter.

We also ordered the A5 Wagyu Filet Mignon Katsu set that we grilled on hot stone. Marbling was exquisite, meat super tender. Rice, cabbage salad & miso soup are unlimited. We enjoyed every bite of our meal. We reserved on Yelp, got seated right away, there were only 2 Japanese aunties taking orders, bussing, serving, checking out, refilling etc and served with a smile. We will definitely make sure to return here on our next visit to the island. It's money well spent. They close around midnight - it's very close to Hard Rock Cafe and Lahaina Shave Ice. It's a small restaurant with a bar and gets packed quickly so be sure to make reservations or it will be a long wait. It's delicious and the fry is perfect but it can be pretty rich/fatty. It does come with a side of Japanese spicy mustard, which goes great and helps cut some of the richness. If you order a set, they give unlimited salad, miso soup, and rice as well. This time, we also got the Hamburg steak set, which was surprisingly so delicious. It was juicy, super moist, and very flavorful. I'm usually not a fan of this dish, but it was delicious here! The servers are efficient and quick to offer refills of the sides and water. The space isn't very big, some tables and some counter seating, so if you're going with more than 2 people, a reservation is highly recommended. Whenever we're in Hawaii, we'll be back.

I've been to Mitch's a few times and when I saw that they opened up an Izakaya next door, I knew I had to try it and made a reservation on Yelp. Izakaya Mitch's specializes more in cooked dishes while the other side is more about the fresh / raw fish. But that didn't stop us from ordering the assorted sashimi. All the fish were from Japan and yes you can taste the difference. The fatty tuna was obviously my favorite but even the regular tuna and the hamachi was so buttery, it just melts in your mouth. Plus, it comes with real wasabi. Not horseradish, real wasabi. For the cooked dishes we got the hokkaido crab tempura with a side of matcha salt. One of the best tempuras I've ever had. The kamameshi, a rice dish with their fish of the day. We got the half order and it's kinda like a bibimbap where they mix the rice for you at your table. I saw that people were raving about this on Yelp and put in our order right when we got in because it takes 25-ish minutes to prepare. On special, they had a karei karaage. Karei is a flat fish and I've never had a fish karaage before, it was perfectly fried and dipped in the ponzu sauce it was so good. This place has been a staple for my family ever since we moved back to O'ahu a few years ago. Bottom line? The soba noodles here are utterly fantastic. They are, in my humble opinion, the best on the island, and some of the best soba noodles I've ever had. I don't think anywhere else in Honolulu comes close. You come here to eat soba. Period. In addition to the soba being phenomenal, the other offerings at i-naba are also similarly great. Their tempura in particular is outstanding.
