The store is very worn and in disrepair considering they are attempting to sell somewhat expensive products. Compared to their Detroit location at the hotel this location is nothing short of brand damaging. Further the staff are disengaged and while pleasant, mostly robotic. Shinola needs to invest at least a modest effort to make the shop as nice as their core watches. read more

Skylar was wonderful. My favorite necklace was stolen when are car got broken into and i was devastated. It was sold out on the website. We happened to come into the store, interacted with Skylar and her associate, and explained our predicament. Skylar took the time to look on their store computer, located the item, called her colleagues in New York and facilated the replacement sale. Of course while she was working her magic, hubby found a new watch and I found a new watch strap. We bought them! Store is clean and welcoming. Street parking was not too hard to find and also free on a Sunday. Will definitely come back. read more

Went in to find a new watch band and walked out with a new wallet. While they didn't have exactly what I was looking for band style in my size I was still pleased with the shop and experience. I just can't say enough good things about this store! I got a new watch from my fiancé for my upcoming wedding and the band was too short. With no time to spare, ordering a new band as an exchange just wouldn't work. I let the store know my particular story and even though it's not policy to swap bands on a pre assembled watch, they kindly and happily made an exception for me. Rules are rules, and I get that, but it's nice sometimes that everywhere needs a little bit of a "human element" for certain situations. These guys are great! I try to purchase Shinola products whenever I can afford it because: 1. They're quality. 2. They're made in the US, and many things coming from Michigan. 3. They look great. We don't have a Shinola store in Philly (yet), but my fiancé was able to call and have them monogram a notebook with my initials on it. It was super easy to pick up, and the staff here were great to chat with. They even pretended not to mind my father's extremely corny and somewhat annoying jokes. Their main product are the watches, but they also sell bikes, and assorted leather and paper goods. Everything is pretty expensive, so you should think of it as an "investment" rather than a "purchase." read more

Have you ever walked into a store that you've admired with no intention to buy anything? Well..that was me when I walked into Shinola on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. I've always admired their pieces and enjoyed their showroom in Detroit that displayed hard workers and a hopeful rise in our economy. When I walked into the Chicago store, I wasn't expecting much but I did find myself to feel a bit of pride that this Detroit based company was moving on up! Ryan approached me as I was admiring the build-your-own pieces. It's a nice touch Shinola has added in the last year or so. He was so passionate about the brand and extremely knowledgable. I must've asked him every question in the book and he never seemed annoyed and if he wasn't sure, he just searched for an answer. At first I figured they were based off of commission, but that isn't the case here. Long story short, he sold me my first beautiful Shinola piece. I will accept leather bands that match the gold face for my birthday and any other holidays. If you've even been thinking about this, go for it. The watches have a lifetime warranty and the first battery replacement is free. I can only say great things! Support local-ish ;) read more

I am familiar with a few Shinola products and I am very impressed that they have brought such high standard to American manufacturing. At a time where American made products are almost nearly non existent and coming from Detroit, a city that was the heart and soul of American Auto manufacturing and sadly has fallen on very hard times, Shinola is part of Detroit's Renaissance. Here come the BUT... I brought my friends to the store yesterday. We came in and saw a pretty short hair black girl which I thought was a customer. She was very cold and standoffish. I actually thought she was a mute until my friend asked her a question. The stuff is indeed quality, very pricey so for that kind of money Shinola should hire someone warm, friendly not someone that makes you want to leave the store immediately. I was greeted with smiles and a salesperson who was eager to please--even on a busy Sunday with a store full of shoppers. Leather bags, briefcases, paper journals, belts and accessories, watches--think Coach meets Fossil on a higher level. Tamara, the manager, was truly interested in helping us; we were in town on a mother/daughter weekend from separate parts of the country; the store was busy, and we weren't able to make the purchase that day, but she followed up with us the next day, and helped my daughter become the owner of her very first serious watch! My daughter loves the watch, I have loved the concept of the company's evolution since it made it's mark in Detroit around 2011, and Shinola's customer service is amazing. I have been wanting a Shinola watch for a while, but there isn't a store near me and I have a hard time spending that much money sight unseen. On a trip to Chicago, I found myself with some time to kill, so I headed straight to the store. The staff there was a bit aloof-- something I would expect at a high end boutique, but not aligned with the mid-west hard work ethic that Shinola desires their brand to portray. In the end, the store is gorgeous, the staff did help me find a watch perfect for me and I couldn't be happier with my purchase, which I receive compliments on all of the time. read more

I've been in this store twice now and while I love their products the staff here is not helpful and pretentious to boot. I felt like it was an act of congress just to have them ring me out (I'm sorry I got in the way of you standing around doing nothing for those five minutes). My advice would be to go to Nordstrom where your purchase comes with respect and a smile. Shinola save your rent money because you're paying to tarnish your brand with employees like this. read more
