They have only been in business about a month.*** Shinwari grill is new to Devon ave, however, they are not new to the restaurant scene. It strikes me odd they took over Masti Grill's listing with ratings and "claimed" it as their own. That kinda bs is not cool and I inquired with them about it. To which I received a canned reply of, "uh, yeah, a lot of things switched hands fast at the time of the switch and we're still figuring that out." Again, that's bs. Their takeout menus have a Yelp logo on them, their in-store marketing mentions their Yelp page and this web page has been verified as theirs with an update on the new owner. So just note that most of their recent 5 star reviews belong to the last restaurant is all. Shinwari moved in, switched out much of the kitchen with all new cookware and has been operating about a month now. Regarding the previous restaurant: Unfortunately it seems that Masti Grill has shuttered their doors and moved out. Good luck to you Tanveer, I'd always hoped Masti would have taken off. If located in a different area of town and with more accessible business hours, it could have done better. Who knows. You brought a new stance to (late night) Pak/Indian food, surprising casual diners with freshly prepared recipes & appetizers. A detail that should be available across Devon "hotels" but is not. Hotels should not be confused with regular, sit-down restaurants ie Tiffin. In India a "hotel" is a fast food joint, to us here in the states it's a diner. Back to Shinwari grill. Much of their menu is Pakistani food with a few Indian crossovers. (In my mind, much of our food is mutual in name and ingredients. However, there are differences in the amount of oil used to start a curry and a far lighter hand of spices used for heat. Almost always, store bought Pakistani food is mild) Shinwari has been open now about a month and are in the process of figuring out their groove and how best to serve their new customers. So far I've been in twice spending an average of thirty plus dollars on takeout. I'll tell you, I think a free membership for anus calisthenics comes with every order. I'm two in and both times my anus has had a vigorous workout. There's the all night puttering which helps focus your anus to short, loud, bursts. Then the day long, overextended usage of pooping. Honestly, I needed a couple days of rest after those workouts. My orders have consisted of veg samosa, a couple breads and a curry. Over the short time, their samosas got better. The first time the shell was harder and darker colored than normal. I've seen this before with newbs using the wrong ingredients. On the second go, the shell was perfect as was the filling. I'd definitely order veg samosa again but only if they offer tamarind chutney. Presently they offer a sort of raita which to me does nothing for it or your taste buds. (You may like to use ketchup or BBQ sauce.) Don't get me started on their cost/type of breads. I'm not a fan. (Note to self. Get store bought paratha or make Costco chapathi) About the curries. All consistently gave my ass something to talk about. Day long flatulence... wowzers. An okra curry (bhindi gosht) that was so bland, murgh cholay (oily) and butter chicken. The butter chicken had good flavor, consistency and the meat was slow cooked. Too bad it upset my stomach.. but good for me, I suppose. Value vs cost vs health.. I hated this place. The big guy (im assuming the manager or owner or the establishment) was very rude towards me when I went with my boyfriend. The waitress came to take our order and he stepped in after we had just said everything and asked my boyfriend to repeat the order while he then proceeded to mistreat his own waitress. He then took charge or taking our order and still managed to mess it up as we ordered two chicken shawarmas not one. I went up to pay and just kept following behind the poor girl. I'm not sure where this restaurant gained good reviews. Their food was HORRIBLE. I got Butter Chicken and Chicken Biryani from here and it was horrendous. The butter chicken was sweet and red. Too much food coloring and too much sweetness. I know the difference between authentic chicken makhani and this horrible sweet makhani they gave us. I don't even want to say anything about the chicken biryani. It smelled, you could tell the biryani was old and stale. The stench was horrible you could clearly tell the biryani was not fresh at all. I've stored biryani in the fridge for 3-4 days and it never had a rancid smell but shinwari's biryani had an actual rotten stench coming from it. The biryani rice was all mushy, the rice were mashed up you could tell it was over cooked. No long grain spectate rice presentation. Horrible horrible food. read more

This is my worst food delivery i ever had in my life. Food came extremely late and they were already cold. It's not a big a problem and it happens. I had a butter chicken which was disgusting and they put so much oil on the top which killed my appetite . Rice was so dry and tasted so bad. This is my first visit to the place and I was not impressed. The quantities were small and the butter chicken did not taste like butter chicken. Their menu is very limited and additionally, they had run out of chicken for tandoori chicken because of a party the previous day and had no beef dishes available. I've never ever heard of an Indian restaurant that has run out of tandoori chicken. That's like saying McDonald's ran out of cheeseburgers. The food was quite spicy (yes I know it is Indian food) for my palate. Pluses - They had parking at the back and their chicken biriyani was delicious. Prices were reasonable. I was a regular at this restaurant. It was closed for a while but when I saw it reopened, I was delighted. Unfortunately, the old management sold this place and I found out the hard way by eating their tasteless food. The goat khorma used to be excellent here but when I ordered the same dish, it was a dry meat curry completely tasteless and bland. The Bihari Kabob were soft but dry, lacking any taste. Garlic naan and the butter naan that I ordered were also dry as well. Overall the food was subpar. My friend and I left disappointed from this place. read more

Wow...all I have to say is WOW. I've eaten a lot of Pakistani food in my day. In fact, my mother is Pakistani and cooks all the time. No restaurant has ever come close to her cooking....until now. My husband Kyle and I ate way too much here. We came to visit from Minneapolis and now we have to stop here every time we come to Chi town for business or to visit friends/family. We started with pakoras and they were really good. Then the tandoori chicken....oh my...the tandoori chicken. I often have dreams about it...it was THAT good. We also had some seekh (sp?) kabobs, both chicken and beef. Must have it with raita, fresh onions, and the naan with sesame seeds. We also tried the chicken koftas and fish. Mind-blowing. Seriously good eats!!! I was thoroughly impressed and wished I had 2 stomachs. Although we didn't get to see any singing, the good was enough to keep us coming back. The second time (I was there w/o my husband) I also had the lassi (yogurt drink) and the nihari. The tandoori bread alone was so good. The food....outstanding. If you've never tried Pakistani food, this is the first and last place you should try. And if you're a connoisseur, this place will be in your top three, if not #1. I've been to this place a few times and the food is always amazing. The costumer service is really good compared to other restaurants on Devon. But back to the food. I ordered the biryani, chicken pakora, naan, fish, nihari & kabob and a few other things. I have to say it was phenomenal. Like OH MY GOD. Was it amazing. Everything was nice and hot and cooked to perfection. The meat was juicy and the naan was crispy. I have to say I don't usually write reviews were the restaurant was perfect but this place was on point. The owner took care of us and asked us how we were going a few times and told us to park in the back were there's free parking! On Devon that's one of the hardest things to find. Absolutely super fresh and amazing grilled items. We recently discovered this almost hidden gem at Devon. It is easy to miss as the restaurant is a few blocks before the hustling restaurant area. The owner Mr Majid, is super friendly and quick to cater to the customers. We ordered a family grill which was spicy and the pieces were well marinated and charred to perfection. The zinger burgers are amongst the best in Chicago. The crunch on the zingers is like no other and comes with a side of fries. Another refreshing find at the restaurant was the paratha rolls. Huge paratha rolls filled with tender grilled items was finger licking good. The owner recommended we try the namkeen gosht which was really good too. Overall, it is a great addition to devon and our family has visited several times since we first tried their food. The nehari could be better but the naans were buttery and fluffy. A lot of people were talking shit about this place on grubhub but I tried it anyways since I'm right around the corner. Not only were the people really nice but I thought the food tasted great. I tried a chicken roll which was chicken kabob wrapped in paratha and I also had the boneless chicken tikka. The chicken was very flavorful and juicy, not dry. I think the manager is really nice and people working here are great but if you are spending 50$ you want some quality to the food which this place lacks tremendously. I went here last night with two of my friends. The place was pristine and the atmosphere was lovely. We got a plate of grilled meats along with vegetables and different breads and rices. I can't pronounce some of the names because I told them what I liked and went with the servers recommendations. Food was unbelievable! I will definitely be back. Next time I'm going to do karaoke!
