I looked to the owner and I ask if anyone was going to finish up my nails he says no and tells me to leave. I highly recommend not coming here something so small and fixable was escalated to be problematic. Ive been going to this nail salon for the past year but decided to stop. Some nail techs there are very rude without any disregard. One time I came an hour to closing time and was told by the owner it was fine, however the nail tech kept huffing and puffing and slamming items down when doing my nails. I was very turned off because the owner seen her behavior and didn't say anything... the second time another nail tech was blatantly rude and got extremely upset after I asked him to repeat himself. Other customers where even looking at us because it was uncalled for. Again, the owner seen this behavior and didn't say anything. Sadly I will not be returning. They need to do better with customer service and disciplining staff that are being rude to customers. read more

I made an appointment because I wanted to be sure of availability even though they allow walk-ins. I arrived right on time, was told to pick a color and then wait. Someone walked in after me and asked for availability and they said sure, sit down and took care of her right away. After a half an hour of waiting and being ignored, I asked the owner who my appointment was supposed to be with. He literally ignored me and wouldn't respond. So I said I guess I will have to go then. Another employee gave me an apologetic look but again nothing from the owner who I was speaking directly to. So rude. I had been traveling for several days and was long overdue for a manicure and pedicure. I needed someplace where I could get a late appointment on a Saturday afternoon and Shiny Nail and Spa made it easy to get an appointment. They were ready for me when I came in a few minutes before my scheduled appointment. I chose the Reflexology pedicure which costs just under $70. Warm towels, scrub, moisturizing! The gentleman who took care of my nails was gentle, kind, professional, and skilled. The best part was the 30 minutes of massage on my legs and feet. I thought the massage would be more reflexology oriented with pressure points, so I was surprised that it was just a pleasant, relaxing massage. Good news was no pain or discomfort. Downside is some of the tight muscles and foot flexibility issues from travel and walking didn't really get addressed. I decided on a gel manicure to reduce polish drying time. The downside of that is much less massage for my tired hands and arms. The place was clean, quiet, and staffed by pleasant people. And my nails look much healthier and prettier than when I went in. Total price for the gel manicure ($35)) and fancy pedicure ($68) was $103. Good location near stores and eateries. A pleasant experience overall. read more

I have been to this nail salon twice. The first time I went in for a pedicure and had a very positive experience with Coco. I thought that I finally had found a salon that's good, clean, and close to home. Boy was I wrong! More recently I had gone back for a much needed post pregnancy mani/pedi with high expectations given my first experience. Sadly, not only was it a complete let down but also ended up being a health concern! While doing my manicure, the nail tech (male with glasses) took a serious chunk out of my cuticle. The cut was bad enough that it bled for 2 days and still hurts today, a week after my visit. Something like this is my biggest nightmare as it could lead to infection and other concerns! What's even worse is that a) when this occurred he didn't even acknowledge the incident let alone bother to apologize and b) I had to ask for alcohol to disinfect the wound! I won't get into the details of the nail polish application; suffice it to say that I took off the polish as soon as I got home. I have been "nibbed" by other nail techs before but never to this extent where my finger looked like someone dug a hole into the cuticle. I'm sorry but this is completely unacceptable. If you hire poorly trained techs I will not support your establishment and expose myself to unnecessary health risks. read more

Great place for a quick mani! I got a gel manicure and was out 35 mins later. Price is $34 and while you can't tip on your card they do have an ATM with a small service fee of $1.50. Also, while I was waiting for my nails to dry, I got a little back massage with a hot towel! Quick and relaxing! The salon itself is small so I recommend making an appointment, especially in the summer. Also, they have a loyalty program where you can accumulate points towards free mani/pedis! The service is pretty good, they are definitely efficient and move things along quickly. Only reason why it's 4 starts and not 5 is because the gel color selection is limited. They only have shellac and OPI, but no Essie gel! read more

My family was using this place since they started business in our favorite area. We always sent people to them, because supporting locals is our priority in our community. But thing shifted rapidly as far as customer service, work quality and attitude of the entire staff, including owners. Place started degrading itself and soon we might see another vacant place in the center of WH. My wife's recent (and last) visit to them proofed that they do really deserve my single star. She was treated rudely and absolutely unprofessionally. They don't accept their mistake and trying to blame customer on every single mistake that they do. I booked a set of mani/pedis for 6 as a start to my sister's bachelorette party. They were more than accommodating for our large group over the phone, and allowed me to bring a bottle of champagne to enjoy while we were getting our mani/pedis done. When we arrived, half of our party was seated immediately, however, there were not enough chairs reserved for our party, so half of us had to awkwardly wait around. Finally, we were all seated. The actual manicure/pedicure felt very rushed. Some of the things given to a normal mani/pedi (back massage while drying, scrubs, etc.) were skipped for us. I came back here upon request of the NEW management/owner as my service with the previous owners had been less that favorable. First things first, the salon is very clean and the pedicure station is very pretty. The staff is warm, friendly and beyond accomodating. While I was there they ran out to a client's car to grab her flip flops and feed the meter for her. GREAT customer service. I had one of their spa pedicures and it was magnificent. They are meticulous and take pride in their work. My biggest pet peeve is when getting a pedicure they try to pumice the soft center part of your foot...why? That's never a problem area with ANYONE I have ever met. To me that's a bad pedicure, they are giving you the illusion that they are handling your business. Well THIS salon did not even try that crap. They did exactly what a good tech does.. pumice the heels, tippy toes, and balls of your feet. THAT is an honest pedicure and that is exactly what they did. Ive visited quite a few nail salons and either the service is great but the work is mediocre, or the work is fantastic but the price is outrageous, I haven't been able to find a combo of fantastic work, great service AND reasonable pricing.. until NOW. Very, Very Happy! p.s. Only downfall is the following.. they have these BEAUTIFUL pedicure bowls but (Im guessing to be extra sanitary), they line them with plastic which is such a shame. She did a great job shaping my nails and my polish looks great! She was good, and quick (I wouldn't have minded a longer hand/arm massage!). I made quite a few visitations to this salon. Not bad. They have very clean and neat salon, well organized, decent products and services. Time to time the employees can be indifferent about customers, but I guess it all depends technician by technician. I've had pedicures from Sarah (I think it's her name. can't remember her exact name). She was very personable and nice. She was also very gentle with you, and accommodate your needs. You will get back rub massage for few minutes when you dry your polish, when they are not busy. Since it's complimentary, I can't really review about it, but it seems pretty decent. Love this place!! So happy I walked in with my mom for a pedicure. They sat us right away, were very attentive and have a large gel and regular polish selection. Prices are fair for the level of service you receive, they even give you a 5$ off coupon during your first visit. The membership card is worth getting because you accumulate points from each visit. This picture was a week after I received this gel manicure... It still looks perfect with the exception of one nail that broke and chipped. I had been wondering about Shiny for quite some time so I was happy they were open and able to take a walk-in appointment for both a manicure and pedicure. I specifically needed a clean-up - no polish for either my hands or feet. Leo was the nail tech and he was great. He took great care to remove cuticles and went over every nail at least three times. I couldn't believe how much time he spent to ensure that I was left with nail beds that looked super fresh and clean. If you're in the hood I totally recommend checking them out. read more

My daughter went there with a friend and the male employee asked my US born daughter if she was a legal citizen. When I went into the shop to discuss this with him, he claimed he didn't understand and then tried to imply she wasn't there. I told him that his comments were rude, racist and totally inappropriate. I was hoping for was an apology to her but he kept denying it at all which clearly made me irate. A customer indicated she had been going there for years and the staff was just lovely and wouldn't do that and I was disturbing her manicure. How would she feel if she (or her daughter) was asked this. Should I call the immigration on the owners and have them check his or his staff's paperwork? Unbelievable. Never again will I be going to this salon. I walked in this afternoon to get a gel manicure. It was a mediocre manicure. When they started to put the color on my nails it wasn't the one I requested, the manicurist was saying it's okay then put the color I requested on top. Why didn't he just take everything off and start over well it's called lazy! Then after my manicure I looked at them and notice they were smeared at the tips, told the manicurists and he said it's the nail polish. Dilemma: I'm in West Hartford with 1 hour to spare before I had to be at work and my nails were a WRECK! Where to go? The almighty wonderful and powerful Yelp lead me to Shiny Nail and Spa! I was SO happy I came here! Seriously one of the best and most precise manicures I've had in a while. I usually have another go-to nail place but I was in a time crunch and couldn't go far. Now, this is going to be my new go-to place! They were super friendly and accommodating the moment I walked in the door. I inquired about a regular manicure and they were able to instantly take me. I also asked if they had a minimum credit card charge and they did not, however they prefer tips in cash (don't blame them!) and they conveniently had an ATM that only charges $1 for their foreign ATM fee. They also have my FAVORITE brand of nail polish, Vinylux, which truly lasts for 1 week or more. Their prices are a litttttttle bit on the high side for me, but it was completely worth it. $13 for a manicure and +$5 for the week long polish came to an $18 manicure, but I swear it will last between 1 to 2 weeks, and still look good. A very kind man gave me the ABSOLUTE BEST massage while I was getting my nails started and OH MY GOSH I feel so good today! I felt like I should have paid him for the massage that's how good it was. He gave me one while I was getting my nails done and also while they were drying. The woman who gave me my manicure was very particular and did an excellent job. I was in and out of there in 35 minutes which was perfect! Just long enough to be relaxed for a bit but quick enough to move along with my day. I also received a $10 coupon for next time that I return, which will be when I need another manicure! I can't wait to go back! read more
