Okay the word "Wreck" says it all. First of all, we had two bowls of mediocre soup (Lobster bisque WAY too salty and about a tsp of lobster floating in it) and a clam chowder. No oyster crackers supplied. Two tasteless Caeser Salads which the waitress neglected to bring a pepper mill. One decent creme brûlée but the clincher was the CO-ED bathroom in which the one stall that existed's lock was broken. I had to use the bathroom, holding the door shut with my hand while men walked in and out using the urinal TMI. All this for $140. Have we gotten so used to mediocrity that we think this is all fine? 4th of July, just left the beach and friends house in Manasquan. We were looking for some nice seafood so I went to Yelp to locate whats nearby and viola this restaurant only 3 mins away. We thought we were underdressed because like I said, we were off the beach. However this nice server stopped us on our way to the car to say come back in, we were fine. Yay! We get settled at the bar. Order some drinks. The food menu looked great! Nice mix of food to cater to everyone. We started with 1/2 doz of Raspberry Point oysters. (We haven't seen these anywhere since Boston.) Love them. Next, I had a special salad with peaches and buffalo mozz. It was super good. My boyfriend had the foi gras (sp?) that was pretty tasty. (My first time trying it) For dinner I really enjoyed the linguini with clam sauce. Wow. It was so good. They added some bacon and it was perfect. My boyfriend has the crusted grouper and that was just amazing. We skipped dessert and had some espressos. We enjoyed chatting it up with several bar guests around us. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, amazing food. Cannot wait to come back and also to try their other place, Shipwreck Point in Point Pleasant. Ps. Disappointing. Dined on NY eve. This was our 'special occasion" go-to place. Lobster bisque soup was lacking any lobster and was served room temperature. Oyster sampler is served drowned is their sauce - should be on the side with option to add as desired. Steak "special" was so bland. Linguine with clam sauce was average. We were very understanding that most restaurants are short staffed which we feel was reason for lack of attentiveness. It was a holiday so we did not express any disappointment. I can't say enough about this restaurant. I have driven past for years and never went in, I was so glad I finally stopped. The drinks are fun, modern and tasty, although they do know the old standbys. Both the dining area and bar are great places to sit, it's a bit loud but not in a negative way, just know that it's not super quiet if you require that type of experience. Went there for New Years Eve early (6pm) and sat at the bar. I ordered a porterhouse burger with avocado medium rare and it came out medium well . After waiting 20 minutes for my burger to be medium rare, it came out. I decided to wrap it. The bar attendants didn't wrap any of the avocado (which they charged me extra for). Went to the ship wreck Grill last night for the first time with my wife and her cousins. Overall I would return the food was good. My only complaint would be the service was a little on the slow side. Keep in mind though it was a Saturday night on a holiday weekend. For drinks two of us had the watermelon sangrias. Very very tasty. As for the food we all shared the sweet and spicy calamari. This app was delicious. We also shared the tuna tartar. The tartar was ok. I also tried the clam chowder. The chowder was also ok. Needed a little more salt for my taste. For entrees we all tried something different. My wife had the filet mignon. She said it was delicious and cleaned her plate. One of her cousins had the blackend salmon and said it was really good. The other cousin had the filet and scallops. He said if I yelped his review should read, " the scallops were orgasmic". He also cleaned his plate. I had the pistachio incrusted grouper. It was really good. They enjoyed their meals, and so did I. we had dinner there last night. It was fabulous. Our server, Tara, was super. She was very knowledgeable of the menu and gave her true opinion of the menu. For a very busy dining and bar area, the food was only mediocre at best. The testy is quite noisy which contradicts the low light candlit tables. My appetizer was the lobster bisque which was just okay. It could use a punch of sherry and a garnish for color. The filet needed was tasteless to me and the sauce was mostly red wine with sun dried tomatoes no truffle flavor. My husband had the poached lobster which was tender and tasty. After spending thousands of dollars over numerous dinners at the bar this past year, I brought in two colleagues who had traveled from Chicago and Denver for the weekend. As we left the house for the three minute drive to the restaurant, my husband told one of them how much she would enjoy the Porterhouse burger. We arrived and the only three open seats at the bar were directly in front of the band that was playing. Not only would we not have been able to hear a word spoken to each other... we would have blocked the view of a) the band members and b) the guests at the bar.....as we would have been sitting within 3 feet of the instruments and vocalists. So, my colleague asked for a table and we were seated at the first row of tables behind the wine cabinet. An adorable and professional waitress introduced herself. We looked over the menus and asked about the burger, and she told us we could not be served the burger in the dining room. What? We had tried to sit at the bar and could not, due to the band's location. We ordered the first round of drinks and decided upon our choices from the menu, although we really wanted what we wanted: drinks, appetizers and burgers. I communicated how ridiculous the policy is to the cute and efficient waitress again, acknowledging that she had nothing to do with the manager's decision. Apparently she spoke to someone, because she came back and said that she had good news: we could order burgers if we wanted to move two tables over. Move two tables over, next to the window but still in the same dining room, 10 feet from where we were sitting? No thanks. At this point it was becoming comical, but not very funny. Who was making these ridiculous rules? We ordered a filet and a NY strip, two crab cocktails, a wedge salad and 6 drinks....for a bill of $192. We tipped more than 20%, as I wasn't going to take it out on our waitress. But we left feeling that something was really missing at Shipwreck tonight: LOGIC. Either have a minimum per person in the dining room, so that a person who brings in a child is not allowed to order anything less than the price of the Porterhouse burger....or serve the daggone burger to regular customers who are the bread and butter of the restaurant throughout the year, when it is requested. So often rules represent mindless habits, rather than logically thought out responses to unique situations. It's called management. Was the food good tonight? Yes. My crab cocktail was delicious and the NY strip was very well prepared. But I brought my friends to experience the Porterhouse burger,some apps and cocktails and having that freedom of choice taken from us was nonsensical and infuriating. Perhaps seats should be reserved in the dining room for bar patrons who can't sit in the bar (and therefore cannot order from the bar menu) when a band is playing. The band is being paid....they are not paying to patronize the restaurant. read more

I openly question the integrity and professionalism of this establishment. My family and I placed reservations over 1 month in advance for our Christmas Eve dinner. We were then informed 2 days prior, on December 22, that the restaurant was under renovation and that they could not honor our reservation. When the reservation was originally placed we were NEVER informed about the renovation plans and NOBODY mentioned even the remote likelihood that our reservations could be in jeopardy. This is unacceptable behavior of any establishment and it makes me question this group's decision-making skills. They won't have my business moving forward. read more

What happened !!!! This was my go to restaurant from 2006 -2012 when I really wanted a nice meal and good ambiance. This past May (2015) I went there craving their scallop dish and was appalled and shocked by the service, and the food was just fair at best . A server never was appointed to my table, waited there over 45 minutes before getting drinks . Moved our table twice because of blowing AC vents , server was uninformed about the sides and preparation of dishes, " I am new she said". My favorite dish at the Jersey Shore was mediocre at best . For a high end expensive restaurant we had a laughable experience. I felt bad complaining but after I saw other tables becoming annoyed I knew it was not just me. The Jersey Shore usually takes a minute to get into the summer gear and then usually gets crushed on Memorial Day and I don't blame them. I just hope the captain at Shipwreck Grill got the crew in line because my last experience there was a complete shipwreck. A shame. read more

The Go To Spot, next time I'm in PP or Manasquan. The Shrimp Cocktail, $4pp, was absolutely phenomenal. Ordered 4 and wish i doubled it. They were the size of a steak and had amazing flavor. The cocktail sauce with FRESH horseradish was the icing on the cake. The Lump Crab meat was another jackpot and mixed with the horseradish was that of a top NYC steakhouse. For dinner, the seared Ahi Tuna was stunning and delicious. Only thing it needed was another 2-3oz in relation to the price. Wife had the Lingiuni with clams... What a hit that was. Absolutely delicious. Her Coconut shrimp as an appetizer was off the charts... Service was great. Easily an 8 or 9 out of 10. Only improvement: They need to get the espresso's out faster or use a larger machine. 3 orders to the table, 1 was cold, 1 luke warm and the other was just short of being the proper temp. The Shipwreck is one of my favorite places to go when I come into town. However, you must make a reservation way in advance otherwise there is almost no chance of you getting in (only bummer thing). I would highly recommend getting the surf and turf here. I am a big fan. If you're not into this sort of thing there is still a great selection of fish and red meat to choose from. Their desserts are also quite tasty. The last time I went I got the chocolate peanut butter cake and the black and white souffle with maple ice cream (not all for myself of course). Yum! read more

Our party of six arrived at 7:50 PM for our 8 PM reservation made weeks prior. We waited a good 25 minutes to be seated. Between the six of us we ordered the Lobster Bisque, Arugula salad, grilled Octopus, for starters and the Grilled Scallops, Tuna and the Mahi special as entrees. The Bisque was just ok needs a shot of sherry. Arugula salad was very good, Grilled Octopus was good but costly for the portion size. Tuna was dry and tastless, Scallops were large and very good. Desserts were all good and should be at $10.00 each. Our server was ok if not robotic. As stated in other reviews this place is too noisy. It is impossible to carry-on a conversation with anyone not seated directly next to you or hear your server read the specials. As someone stated in their review if this restaurant was not located at a popular shore location it would not survive. Price vs. value is lacking. read more

WoW! Beautiful day at the beach today. Decided we wanted a bite to eat before heading back to the city. Looked on Yelp to see what was in the area and were lucky enough to be right by this place. The look of the place is low key, a few tables outside, large bar and spacious dining inside. Forgive me for sounding like a typical NYC food snob when I say we really were not expecting much. WoW again!! Absolutely knocked our socks off! Our waitress, Becky, was attentive and pleasant. The staff in general were really on point. The food was phenomenal. Fresh, creative, and really flavorful. The portions were also very generous. I was full by mid-meal, but it was so good I had to keep eating! Then came dessert. I don't know how many times I can say wow and get away with it,.. but WoW! Absolutely fantastic. This is my favorite restaurant of all time (right now.) I'm there at least once a week and the food never, ever fails. They just took my favorite salad off the menu, however, so I'm a little hurt, but I'll get over it. I usually try to order one of the daily specials because there is always something new and interesting. On the regular menu, you can't go wrong either. I think they do fish the best, but we also had outrageous steak there too. You can make reservations for the dining room. I'm a bar eater, far more interesting to me, so we try to get there early whenever we're going. They are open year round, so if you don't like crowds come before Memorial Day. read more

If you're comfortable spending some money and not looking for an intimate setting, this is the restaurant of choice in the area. Although it is a stone's throw from the inlet, there are no water views from the restaurant. Outdoor setting when seasonally appropriate. The space is a little small, so I recommend a reservation if you don't want to sit near the bar. Regardless, service is always great. Crowd is a bit mixed, 30s, 40s and 50s+...definitely expect to see a few older women trying to compete with their granddaughters' sense of fashion! Unfortunately, while this use to be a favorite spot for special occasions, my experience here tonight causes me much distress. While my family is following covid rules, Shipwreck is not. The inside dining was over 25% and when I mentioned that to the manager, he disagreed with me. He obviously doesn't know his math. Grossly negligent. This is why we will never get rid of covid. Murphy puts laws into place, no one follows them and no one is policing them. Just this reason alone makes me mad I gave them money, let alone a tip. Now to the food, while my burger was decent..sad that I ordered a burger here, but my son ordered the butter poached lobster. They claim to put truffle peeling, but if you know your truffles and can tell by the picture, those are Chinese black truffles, which are no better than mushrooms. So I call that false advertising or they just have no clue...$43.00 for this dish. Then we ordered the quart of lobster bisque soup and you can also tell by the picture how measly and cheap they were with the lobster. Should I even mention that my son, who is immune compromised got diarrhea right after eating his meal.
