The raw oysters and clams were good but not as chilled as I like them. The Lobster bisque was not good it had way to much tarragon but the clam chowder was very good. Stuffed lobster was great perfectly cooked and full of crab meat but the mixture was a little mushy. We also tried the tuna which was cooked good and the salmon dish was just ok. It's not the best seafood restaurant but it's solid and a little over prices for the food they serve but maybe we just ordered the wrong things. read more

Awesome from start to finish. They have patio seating with fans on the ceiling that is first come first serve and we were lucky to get one of those tables on a beautiful summer night. The location is on the river very close to the route 35 bridge to Pt. Pleasant but surprisingly there is no noise from the traffic. The parking lot abuts the ship docks which is nice for an after dinner stroll. The inside has a large bar with seating which is also first come, first serve and then there is the main dining area which is reserved seating. We were greeted almost immediately upon sitting and we had cocktails in hand with 10 minutes of our arrival. I had their raspberry martini which was just sweet enough for me and my hubby had their old fashioned which was delicious. For apps we had the coconut shrimp and the calamari. Both were ridiculously good. I would go back to just have an afternoon of cocktails and those two apps plate after plate. We split an order of Caesar salad which was lightly dressed and delicious. For our entrees I had the red snapper special which was served over corn risotto and a roasted tomato sauce. My description is not doing this dish justice. My husband ordered the lobster poached in butter which was served over an andouille sausage and gruyere risotto cake and asparagus. Very good and the portions for both meals were very generous. For dessert I had the special flourless chocolate cake with melted marshmallow over chocolate sauce and my hubby had the key lime mousse. Yum! The evening wasn't cheap, but for the quality, service and portions it was well worth the $225 check (including a bottle of wine as well). Very nice atmosphere, the view of the water is nice, although not amazing. Main reason that he was not prolific is because it's more of a bay than the ocean. And him, service was very good and accommodating, I requested a window seat, they forgot and put me at a regular table, I mention my request and they were accommodating. They did the right thing. For the food, it was very good, a tad bit pricey, as also was wine. The quality of the food was well above average, commensurate with the price. The ambience was good and I was able to have a very nice conversation with my girlfriend without feeling we were closed in by other people around us. They also offer a valet service that is free, which makes it very convenient when you're looking to park at the beach. This is a great feature they offer. So just pull up to the front of the restaurant If you are dining there. I took off one star only because I am a very value oriented person, the price needs to meet the expectation of everything at the restaurant that I feel is important, quality of food, cleanliness, service, ambience, just about everything that is important to most people. I felt it fell a tiny bit short because of the pricing, but overall a nice experience, there's a good chance I will go back again. read more

Not kid friendly, but our server did her best, and even though on the water, the restaurant is not on the water, but the parking lot is. From the calamari appetizer to the delicious entrees of squid ink pasta, short ribs, tuna, shrimp scampi , roasted chicken and scallops everything was amazing as always. Great Knowledgeable Staff and Creative Dishes Make for a Good Night This was our first time visiting Shipwreck Grill, after hearing about it for so many years. It lived up to its reputation. I must say that the staff was extremely attentive and knowledgeable. They were checking to see if we were ok throughout the meal with water, bread, etc. Friendly and quick. The food was extremely good. The calamari app was fantastic and huge in size. The Octopus salad was prepared well, but could have used more than 3 small pieces of octopus. The Scallops were some of the best I have had in years, both is taste and presentation. The size of the scallops were on the much larger side than I was used to, which meant they took time to select and prepare them. On the flip side, the pistachio crusted grouper was not done well. The coating was mushy and mealy, and the portion was small. Someone next to me ordered the same dish, and the fillet their fillet was seared, and cooked crisp like it should have been. I guess the dish was a hit or miss. The goat cheese cake was deconstructed more like a parfait. It was fantastic, if you like goat cheese. The latte's were huge. The beer out of the tap was completely flat, and it took 20 minutes to change the CO2. That was disappointing. All in all, I would give this restaurant a 3.5, but I rounded down because of the beer. To my followers: This is a good solid restaurant, but we just had an off night. I appreciated the manager coming to check on what was wrong with the grouper. He had said he would talk to the chef about the problem. Whether he did or not, who knows. But, I would try this place again. I believe they are better than this one incident. To my followers: The prices are middle of the road for shore restaurants. Exactly what you would expect for a good, high end establishment. Drinks are a bit pricey, so be careful. Went on a Thursday night and I ordered the petite surf and turf at the bar. I cut into my filet and it was cold. I asked the bartender to send the steak back for a new one. He was understanding and gracious about it. However, I received the same steak back with the cut piece out of it 2 minutes later. I don't even know where to start on describing what bad practice that is. Terrible effort with poor execution and failed kitchen practices. The best analogy is that it's like a Shipwreck! I've had two really good meals here recently. The veal chop was outstanding, and the rib eye wasn't far behind. It is a bit pricey, and depending on what you order, the portions can be small. Very nice place. Not too big, but not small, has a large bar and had plenty of business on Friday night. The menu was a little large for my view, and had some interesting selections for sure. I would pare down the menu and go with more specials but that is me. The food was very good, the service was really good and the experience was way above average. I saw a lot of bad reviews so we were a bit on guard. We were warned about the high priced drinks. They were very expensive but good. Our meals were good. I got a lobster salad which had a good amount of lobster. My friend got a blackened fish with clans and he liked it. We got bread and butter and our waitress was right on top of us. I thought it was very reasonable for a jersey shore restaurant. I splurged on dessert which I never do but it was homemade ice cream. Had to do it. It is off season so not crowded at all. read more

Went here for dinner with another couple. Off season, the place was not too busy but a reservation is a must, especially on weekends. Nice quaint bar while you wait. Service is very attentive. Not a very large dining area, buy comfortably cozy, especially in the winter, and not very noisy. Upscale menu with plenty of for options, both seafood and otherwise. My fiance and I went here for the first time last night for his bday dinner as somewhere for us to try that we've never been. Man are we happy we landed at this place! We ordered crab cake as an app, I ordered the prime chop with sweet potato puree and bok choy with an out of this world homemade bbq sauce on the side, and my fiance ordered the halibut special that came with basmati rice and a tasty pink-ish sauce. Honestly, this was the best pork chop I have ever had! Cooked to perfection, imagine the softness of a filet in pork chop form. It was juicy and flavorful, complimented by the sweet potato puree and the bbq sauce. My fiance's entree was also delicious. We 10/10 recommend and have already told everyone we've seen to go try it out. We sat at a high top table since we didn't have a reservation, the high tops are situated on the outskirts of the bar so it was a bit noisy but if you make a reservation ahead of time and sit in the dining room I don't forsee that being an issue. When it comes to the food you can't go wrong. Been many times and never a bad dish. However, if you plan on talking to anyone in your group and there is live music you are out of luck. The noise level of the bar and the band is well past 11. The last band that was playing was so bad and off key it almost pushed us to our tipping point. I go to this place when I want it all. Great food, great service, interesting people watching. We usually sit at the bar but have had our meals in the dining room as well. If you want to check out the local rich eccentrics whilst dining on some raw bar, sit at the bar. If you want a cozy private dinner, sit in the dinning room, either way you will get the same great service. But i think there is a bar menu in addition to the regular menu at the bar, but not sure if bar menu is available in the dinning room. My husband wishes there were tv's, however in my opinion i find this a plus. read more
