We stopped here on our way from DC to Wilmington. The hotel itself has a super cool story and the space in which the restaurant is located feels really beautiful, grand and historic. It is spacious with lots of natural light (if you eat during the day). We ended up being one of two tables because we came at an odd time. There was only one person working front of house, Melissa, and it looked like she was bartender, hostess and server while we were there. Despite that she did a great job. She was gracious, attentive and even pulled out my chair for me. She knew about the building's history and seemed to take genuine pride. So if that is an indication of what the service is like all the time then A++. Food was decent, not mind-blowing. But I thought the quality was there. Ingredients were fresh. Prices were high end for the area but reasonable for the preparation and presentation. Food was well prepared. My only real complaint is my fried okra kept sliding out of its batter. We stopped at Shirley's during a road trip and had a great experience. The restaurant is located in the lobby of the Hotel Petersburg, which made it an easy and convenient stop. When we went, only the bar area was open, but there were tables in that section and we were able to sit comfortably as a family of four. Our waitress was really sweet and personable, which always makes a difference--especially when you're traveling with kids. The food was delicious. I ordered the smash burger, my husband had the salmon, and both were excellent. The kids ordered from the kids' menu--chicken tenders and a burger--and everything came with fries. We also ordered the sweet potato fries and those were a standout--definitely recommend them. Overall, it was a great stop during our trip with good food, friendly service, and a relaxed atmosphere. Rich atmosphere with wood and granite architecture. Felt swanky in the bar area. We had the place almost all to ourselves with one other person dining solo. The lunch me menu was limited, so we all ordered the their Burger. Let me tell you it was delicious. I can't recall the name of it or everything it had on it, but one item was the "Onion gravy". That was the highlight. This was not an inexpensive burger either. I believe it was $23 for burger and fries. I also had an interesting Caesar salad that was $12. It was a pretty pricey lunch for a Sunday. However we left very satisfied. I would say given the opportunity we would come again. Check them out! read more

We came here for Valentine's Day and we had a great time! The staff were all amazing! Our waiter was Ruben and he was an angel. The drinks were great, I got an aperol spritz. We also got the bread basket to start. Not pictured is a delicious focaccia bread that we devoured! For the entree I got the rockfish and it came with pasta and a piece of garlic bread. We were too full for dessert but the meal was amazing! The whole time we were super comfortable. The whole place looks beautiful! I'm so happy to see such a great spot in Petersburg! read more

This place was beautifully appointed the decorations, in the lobby were gorgeous. The furniture was high-end. We had a great time walking in and taking in all the sites. We were greeted by a wonderful hostess, who sat us in a beautiful area. There was an outside patio, but we decided to eat inside the waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and offered us some great suggestions. We decided on the smash burgers and fries because it looked like it was going to be really delicious. The food came out. It was beautifully plated. The burger was cooked to perfection. Shirley's is nestled inside the Hotel Petersburg! The dim lightening and caramel color combinations truly add to the overall aesthetic. Its has an old time parlor feel. The service was very slow. It was mid-day and the restaurant was empty, but nevertheless we waited. The food was decent. I had the salmon. It could have used more seasoning. A tad underwhelmed. read more

Overhyped, overpriced, and underwhelming. Mother's Day brunch for 2 was $200. The chafing pans didn't keep the food hot. The gravy was cold. The shrimp and crawfish weren't seasoned. Shirley's is located in the newly renovated Petersburg Hotel which is owned and operated by Hilton as part of their Tapestry Collection. The hotel and Shirley's has been beautifully restored. The entire building has been accurately restored with period, features, moldings and marble. This is a great venue for fine dining. The dining area has high ceilings, with majestic pillars, and original restored (rustic) heart pine flooring. There is plenty of natural light plus lighting fixtures that are reminiscent of the grand era of Petersburg. Plan ahead and reserve a table, as we saw the restaurant fill up quickly. Our party of four was seated promptly. The friendly and personable server offered drinks as water was being delivered. We looked over the drink menu themed for St. Patrick's Day and made our selections. The server advised us of the entree specials for the day. It took an unusual amount of time for drinks to arrive. When they did, the two cocktails and one glass of wine arrived one at a time. The last drink (a ShirleyTemple) was not delivered until we asked for it after our entrees were served. The server gave us ample time to converse before asking for our entree selections. She shared her praise for the specials. Interestingly enough, we were never offered appetizers and never offered refills on drinks. No problem, just a note. Maybe Shirley's is missing an opportunity for additional sales. The beautifully presented entrees did not arrive at the same time. The two Lamb Shank Shepherd's Pie were beautiful and a taste treat! The savory meat was falling off of the bone. Puff pastry was delicious. The fresh peas and carrots were cooked perfectly. My wife had great praise for the flavor of her Shrimp and Grits, although she thought that the grits were a little dry and portion on size could have been larger. The pork chop nicely presented and seasoned perfectly. It was a bit small, not thin but it certainly was not thick. This was typical of what one would find from a supermarket. Given its size, it is difficult to properly cook a pork chop without over-cooking. We normally don't order desserts, but the dessert menu was enticing. Our friends ordered the peach cobbler, served warm, with ice cream, featuring fresh peaches. There was plenty for two to share. The key lime pie was cute, quite a small size for one person. The graham cracker crust went well with the tangy key lime filling. Drink and entrees are priced reasonably. Overall, we had a highly pleasant experience and will visit again. read more

Wow! What a hidden gem in the heart of Petersburg. My husband and I started looking for a Valentine's Day restaurant on the early side this year and decided for an adventure to Petersburg. My husband was like "it's 40 minutes away!" but I'm like "who cares it's an adventure" and we haven't really seen any of Petersburg even though we've lived in Richmond for over 30 years. I'm happy to report- It was well worth the drive and we will definitely be going back. What an incredible experience from start to finish. First off it's on the first floor of Hotel Petersburg and the entrance is mobility friendly with a ramp to the right of the steps. The dining room is warm and grand with tall ceilings that somehow don't make it too loud in there even with a band playing! We prefer quieter venues, but the Valentine's Day band was a nice touch and did not interfere with conversation at all. Pretty amazing considering a lot of tall ceiling restaurants in Richmond just reverberate the noise exponentially (like Acacia since their move to Libby Mill ) For Valentine's Day they had a special drink menu with some unique options with a valentine theme. I opted for the strawberry and rosemary sour and my husband ordered the classic old-fashioned. I'm not usually a strawberry fan for my drinks, but the sour was delicious. The ice cube was made of puréed strawberry and a little bit of rosemary so long after I finished my drink, I kept pouring water into it to enjoy the flavor. My husband's old fashioned was spot on and incredibly smooth. For the menu, there was an optional fixed price four course Valentine's Day menu for two at an incredibly reasonably price of $135 a couple. Single option available as well. There were plenty of intriguing items on the regular menu, but we were thrilled with the special Valentine's day menu so we went with that and ordered the following courses: Shirley's baked oysters with Applewood, smoked bacon butter, and a sprinkle of cayenne. Fried green Tomato & Buratta Creamy Maine Lobster chowder Seven leaf and strawberry salad Duo of roasted beef tenderloin, and crabcake Chocolate hazelnut tarte with strawberry coulis Every single dish was prepared perfectly and tasted amazing. I've probably had a perfect meal only a few times in my life and this was in my top five easily. Perfect portion sizes and amazing flavor combinations. My husband and I rarely order oysters but the bacon butter was intriguing and did not disappoint. Truly, the best baked oysters we've ever had. The fried green tomato and buratta was also delicious and uniquely elevated from your average FGT dish. The second course was chowder or salad so we got one of each. While the salad was tasty the chowder was divine. Nice chunks of lobster and a very smooth base that was creamy while not being not too heavy and just plain delicious . For the third course we both ordered the duo of beef and crabcake with wild rice, cherries and a port wine sauce that was cooked perfectly and balanced nicely with the rice and sauce. The tarte was the perfect ending to the meal. We both love chocolate hazelnut and my husband who is not much of a fruit fan when it comes to dessert devoured the strawberry coulis that came with the tarte. Besides a phenomenal meal the other thing that blew me away was the reasonableness of the prices!. Enough to warm the heart but definitely out of this world after an amazing feast. Our server Susan made the whole experience delightful. She was warm and friendly and answered our questions when we asked about the chefs: one is from Egypt and one from Texas. We also learned that they have a Sunday brunch the second Sunday of each month so we are planning to make a trip back for one of those as well. read more

Went to Shirley's for Sunday breakfast to find out that they had run out of food and shut down the dining area at about 8:30AM. Front desk clerk gone for 15-20 minutes helping other staff so no help with recommendations. Once we got them, none of the other restaurants the hotel recommended were open (you would think that the hotel would know what was open 1-2 blocks away), we had to pack up and drive to a location about 5 miles away. Not a huge issue but the combination of the restaurant being unexpectantly shut down and the staff making mistakes regarding what was open was annoying. read more

Shirley's is a beautiful restaurant with with vintage feeling fixtures and decor. The food was excellent. I had the salmon with brussels sprouts, and those brussels sprouts were cooked perfectly. I do wish I had arrived a little later, because I probably would have had a better experience. When I arrived, there was no one to greet me, and I felt like an intruder on an empty restaurant when I was first seated. If a restaurant opens at five, I would expect somebody to be available at five to make me feel welcome. I would definitely dine in there again though. read more

Yelp The boutique Hotel Petersburg Tapestry was a bit disappointing. The lobby looks nice at first, the nice wide marble steps,but the crown moldings are just painted with metal gold. Shirley's The restaurant was quite full so we went to the adjacent bar. We sat at a small table near the bar and ordered cocktails. The atmosphere was nice and the vintage architecture of the old hotel was visually appealing, except for the metallic gold paint on the molding. I asked for the mocktail ginger mule, but with whiskey. My wife asked for a taste of a draft, but it was flat and so she asked for an old fashioned, it was terrible. We ordered from a brief selection of the basic southern fried dishes, ugh. I got the blackened salmon, and it was a bit too blackened and dry....the salmon was too large portion, filling the plate, with completely blackened and greasy 'compote' that was so charred and greasy I couldn't tell what is was, buried under the fish.I believe a few Brussel sprouts and chunks of apple. My wife got a 'salad' that was a cut in half romaine with a few shrimp balanced on top and a spicy aioli sauce, sadly not much effort here. The menu is in need of more healthy options! A real mixed greens salad with darker greens would be a good start! A vegetarian dish please! The salmon option portion could be cut in half and still be generous, then broiled to retain the natural juices.A side of lightly steamed vegetables perhaps a few sweet potatoes slices air fried to complete a balanced meal. read more

DO NOT EAT AT THE RESTAURANT!! I had a dinner reservation at Shirley's at The Hotel Petersburg last Friday 12/12/2025 for 15 people. We arrived for our reservations, and 2 members of our party were unable to attend due to personal reasons (sick child & car issues). We spent well over $2000 on food and beverages and I just noticed on my credit card statement that I was charged an additional $45. When I called to inquire, I was told that I had to pay $15 for each person that did not show up for my dinner reservation. Not only was this not communicated to me in advance but they wrongly charged me for 3 missing people when on 2 people did not attend. I have been trying to contact the food and beverage manager Melissa De Leon all day today. I was told she would call me when she got in, and then when I called back hours later I was told she would contact me after the lunch rush. Since I still have not heard from her I tried to contact her at again at 3:00pm and was told she was too busy to take my call. I find it extremely frustrating to be charged for missing guests at a dinner. I would understand if we didn't show up for our reservation at all and then was charge for the no show but that is not the case in this situation. I will never eat, stay or recommend this hotel to anyone. read more

Shirley's is beautiful with real wood trim, marble columns and blue walls. The white napkins on the dark wood tables denoted class. Everything was arranged precisely It took a minute (maybe because it was 1:40) but we were greeted and told to choose our seating. We were the only guest present but others came in after us. Our server, Keith couldn't have been kinder or more professional. My burger was tasty and the fries were hot and tasty. The pomegranate martini hit the spot. I got a key lime tart to go. It was small but very good. Shirley's is a destination restaurant with its historic background and Hilton affiliation. I can't wait to visit again. read more
