    Bulgogi noodles and edamame
    Katie M.

The bulgogi noodles are so delicious, pair that with some edamame and a California roll and its perfection! The zen and juice is such a good mocktail, perfectly sweet, and the yuzu me baby has become one of my favorite cocktails in old town. Chic and chill vibe with an excellent happy hour. Service is always great and friendly. I recently went there for my birthday for a late lunch and unfortunately right after my dog passed away and the customer service was excellent!

We came here for Happy Hour. We wanted to try their Caviar and Uni Nigiri, but unfortunately they were out of both, which was a little disappointing. Instead, we ordered the Poke Nachos, Mayak Eggs, Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, Snow Crab Crispy Rice, and Asparagus Fries. For drinks, we got the Yuzu Me Baby and the Bomb. We were seated next to a fake cherry blossom tree, which was perfect for taking pictures. The entire restaurant is beautifully decorated and has a trendy, modern vibe. The food was alright, but to us, this place feels more like a hip spot for trendy people who enjoy the atmosphere and aesthetics as much as the food. Sometimes restaurants serve dinner, and sometimes they serve Instagram with a side of sushi. This one leans a little toward the latter.

05/16/2026 Came here with friends to celebrate a birthday. Our reservation was 5pm, but I got there with one friend around 4:30. They were not busy yet and seated us early. Happy hour was from 3-6pm and includes food and drinks. I started with the Dragon Girl cocktail. It was too sweet for me. My second drink, Bang Bang, was lighter and refreshing. For food, we mostly ordered off of the Happy Hour menu: Gyudon Fries - so good that we got two. Mayak Eggs - delicious marinade Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice - love the flavor and the crunch Snow Crab Crispy Rice - the slice of fresno chile on top added a great kick! On the regular menu, we got the KFC Nuggets. I think we got it with the sweet honey soy sauce. This was not bad, but I wouldn't order it again. Also, the menu did not state that this dish contained nuts, specifically chopped pistachio. One of my friends is allergic, and he felt a little tightness in the throat. Fortunately his symptom was minor, and he could still breathe. We told our server who then reported it to her manager. They were very apologetic and gave us a discount on our bill. I hope they learn from this and add allergy warnings to their menu, and train their staff to ask customers if the table has any food allergies. Aside from the brief health scare, my group had a good time and enjoyed the food. There was a DJ, so it was a bit loud. The overall vibe was pretty chill. I would go back again for happy hour and to try a few other items on the regular menu.

Great happy hour options until 6. We enjoyed the Gimbap roll and California roll "but better." They were both good, creative and definitely worth trying. We would probably try something different next time but plenty to explore. It was pretty quiet there when we went on a Wednesday night. The layout and atmosphere are beautiful and location is great. Was craving some Tuesday night sushi and decided to pop in for a light dinner! I like what they've done to revamp the place since taking over (moody lighting, murals on the walls, etc.). However, they do really blast the music. I'm not a huge fan of loud music while I eat, so if you aren't either, this might not be the spot for you. Let's get into the food! We took advantage of their happy hour and tried a few things including: 1. Edamame - I am a bit picky with mine and prefer it steamed without excess oil. They serve theirs pan fried, which I was not a fan of (personal preference of course!) 2. Cali roll but better - pretty decent roll for the price! A little sweet for my taste. 3. Spicy tuna crispy rice - a very one note dish that didn't particularly highlight the fish well. Just tastes like spicy mayo on crispy rice, so if that's your thing, you'll like this one! 4. Poke nachos - the best happy hour dish I tried. Served on 4 chips and was fresh, with depth in its flavor 5. Amber after dark - not a happy hour item, but a delicious roll. The best dish I tried here by far! 6. House white wine - can't beat a $6 glass of wine to go with sushi :) I will say, the best part of our visit was the service. The hostesses were so welcoming, the staff constantly refilled our waters and checked in on us, and we never had to wait too long for our next dish. Not sure if I'd revisit for dinner again, but maybe just for a drink/quick bite. Overall, glad I stopped in to try it out!

I saw this new restaurant on instagram and knew that I need to try. We went for early weekday dinner right after they just officially opened. Rose tteokbokki is tasty with delicious boiled egg. It is unique and different from traditional tteokbokki I had before. Bulgogi bokkeum udon noodle is good but a bit hard to eat with chopsticks since the noodle was cut short, not long. The chef choice sushi has wonderful presentation with cute tiny details. Vanilla pudding with pear is so good and I wish I got some more.

This place is quite special, offering high-quality asian dishes in an upscale, almost club-style ambience. The service was very friendly and knowledgeable. On Friday early evening, the place was rather packed but we got a nice table close by the dj. There is also less noisy outdoor patio although understanding the theme, the music was not too loud inside either. I ordered bibimbap which was one of the tastiest ones I have tried so far. Elegant and well balanced flavors. This place is a great new addition to the Old Scottsdale restaurant offering, so we'll be back soon again.

    4% venue fee
    Christie N.

They charge a venue fee. This restaurant is a Americanized version of Japanese food. If your looking for authentic this isn't it, Scottsdale has a lot of other more authentic sushi restaurants. It was nice vibe more like a bar for cocktails and some light bites. I had the Scottsdale rolls and they were too sweet. I had salmon nigiri and the salmon pieces were so small. The fried crab rice cakes were okay. The rice bowl we ordered was good but the hot clay bowl it was served in kept cooking the food and started burning the rice. It was so hot. My cocktail was very good. The main reason for my low rating though is they have a hidden fee on the receipt. They charge a 4% venue fee. We didn't know but they did tell us if next time we don't want to pay it we can let them know? Weird.

    JAPCHAE noodles
    Alyssa P.

We really enjoyed our experience at Shiso! This spot has been on my radar to try since it opened. The portion sizes are great. No tiny, overpriced dishes that leave you hungry! The JAPCHAE noodles were an amazing value and the dish was so full of flavor. We loved the patio vibe here right in the heart of Old Town. Will definitely be returning!

    Crystal R.

Waiter was very helpful, our dishes all came out at different times and he kept apologizing for the delay. It was very cool décor inside but the music was so loud you can't hear or talk to the people near you, it could have been our seats. Food was very good with a variety of flavors as well all did the restaurant week menu, would give it another try.

    Sushi rolls
    Sam W.

Drinks were good and the food was solid overall. Server was great. They don't have happy hour yet, but the staff said it should be starting next week. It felt a little pricey, especially given the limited pescatarian and vegetarian options. Drinks are abut $20-$25 each which is a lot - even for old town. The vibe was a bit mixed--the music skewed younger, so it didn't feel especially romantic and there's a lot of bar seating inside so maybe it's more of a casual pace? That said, the location is great and the patio outside is really nice. One big downside: there's a 4% service fee added at the end with no explanation or signage, which is why I leaned toward 3 stars instead of 4 (I'd say it's more of a 3.5 overall).

    Vince M.

Ambiance was cool with loud music playing, very Scottsdale. The food was just okay, I think this is much more of a bar type environment. The crudo was good but nothing I'd go back for personally!

    Gorgeous front entrance photo op.

First off, this place is a glamorous vibe, but extremely affordable! Being Samoan I grew up on glass noodles, but have never seen them on a menu. That threw me for a loop. And they have some viral hard boiled egg appetizer that is sooo addictive! Jacob, our server was not scrambled at all with it being opening day, and even our food runner was knowledgeable about the menu. This is certainly a one of a kind place to check out if you're in the area!

I stopped in at 5 p.m. sharp on a Thursday, and there was already a line out the door. That said, getting a table for one wasn't a problem. The atmosphere is definitely rambunctious. It was extremely loud and energetic, although no one was being disorderly. Personally, I found it unpleasant. I ordered a spider roll, which is a longtime favorite of mine across different states and restaurants. Unfortunately, Hiro's version didn't work for me. It came with a mayonnaise-style sauce that wasn't listed on the menu, and I've never encountered that preparation on a spider roll before. The pieces were also unusually large and awkward to eat. I would have preferred more moderate, bite-sized portions. I also found the pricing to be on the high side compared with other sushi spots; that applied across the board, from appetizers to rolls. I'm glad I finally gave Hiro Sushi a try. It just wasn't a match for my personal preferences. Three stars for me, but clearly a Scottsdale favorite for many.

Upon arrival, the place doesn't look like anything special. It's inside a strip mall, and looks mediocre. However, do not judge too soon. We were a party of 12 visiting on vacation, and none of us are from the area. We ordered spam musubi and a chicken skewer as appetizers. Both appetizers arrived well after our entrees had already been served and we had essentially finished eating. Each time we asked about them, we were repeatedly told, "They're coming." Mind you, these are simple appetizers that should not take anywhere near that long to prepare. When we asked for the third time, we finally asked that the appetizers be cancelled since we had already finished our meal. At that point, the gentleman working the front area , tall, with red hair, loudly yelled from across the restaurant, in an extremely rude and confrontational tone, "It's already on the grill!" There was absolutely no reason to speak to paying customers that way. His response was unprofessional, unnecessary, and honestly created a very hostile and uncomfortable feeling during what should have been an enjoyable dinner, especially while our group was on vacation and simply trying to enjoy a meal together. When the appetizers eventually came out, we left them sitting there because we were already done eating and ended up taking them to go. He eventually told us they would be removed from the bill, which we appreciated, but that did not excuse the way the situation was handled. Again, the food was good, but good food does not make up for poor service and especially not for an employee speaking to customers in an aggressive and disrespectful manner. Management should seriously address how customers are treated, because the interaction with this particular employee overshadowed what could have otherwise been a good dining experience for our party of 12.

The restaurant opens up to a large open dining space that includes an impressive "baresk" wrap around serving counter which allows guests to experience and interact with the kitchen staff. Adjacent to the main dining area is a very trendy wraparound bar and a little more intimate lounge with tables for guest meetups, date nights, after business meetings or relax after playing 18 holes at a nearby course. Facing the bar is the wine cellar, a floor to ceiling long glass presentation of their collection. There is a separate special event room in the back for hosting private dinners with special event reservations. Tonight this room was reserved for Yelp's "Elite All-Stars" and hosted by the Roka-Akar and the wonderful Phoenix Yelp Community Manager (CM) Francheska J, I popped my head in to say hello to her and she was kind enough to give me some merch. Congratulations to Roka-Akor for launching this beautiful Resturant in Scottsdale and to Yelp and Francheska for putting on a great experience for your Elite All-Stars! We were very sceptical at first but the recommendation was spot on. We were seated right away and our server Bela approached immediately. She was very friendly and went down the menu telling us all about the specials and her recommendations. We needed no recommendations because we were there for one thing the Bei special. The special was an assortment of various rolls assembled beautifully making each piece stand out. The first bite was divine and as we worked around the ring of rolls they got better and better. The sauces brought perfect harmony and complemented the fish. The sushi was incredibly fresh not having the fishy order lingering. The rolls melted in your mouth like butter leaving you satisfied. It was so good we placed a second order. Bela stopped by frequently checking on us and also telling us about the restaurant and the area and provided a friendly atmosphere that you do not often get in northern Midwest. The Spider Roll was very good except for the sauce on top that did not suite our palate but after removing the sauce it was fantastic. The Hot Mama Roll was also amazing. The flavors went well with the Yuki Mango Nigori Sake. We also tried some of their beers and spent a while catching up. Belas service was second to none and made this reunion fabulous. The sushi at Bei was better than 95% of our sushi restaurants in my state and the price was very good. They also have a cute cat robot that delivers food! Thank you Bela we hope to come back again on our next trip to Arizona to try more food.

Wasn't crowded at all for the dinner area but the bar was packed. They have happy hour. By 6 pm it was full and packed everywhere. Parking is plentiful. We did the chicken shrimp and the New York strip. The mushroom soup is very delicious, the salad dressing felt like it was missing something. The rice was phenomenal so yummy and full of flavor. I like their ginger seafood dipping sauce, but I absolutely cannot stand Dijon taste, and that's what they use for their meat, a mustard sauce. I really wish there was an alternative. The meat seemed to be cooked well and the steak to my boyfriend's liking, flavor was good. We got Lucky to try a sample of the Seabass and holy moly!!! literally melting butter in your mouth! Definitely regretful for our choices and next time we come in, it's Seabass all the way no fishy taste, again just melts in your mouth I wasn't in the mood for the pineapple Dole Ice Cream a bit sweet but definitely can be refreshing from the heat. I got their salmon sushi, and it was good and a decent cut (5$ each on happy hour) My boyfriend got their Japanese whiskey and he enjoyed it. He just said there was a lot of ice. There was one open seat at our table, and I couldn't imagine squeezing another person in. there was even a child sitting at our table and it still felt like we were on top of each other. Not much room at all with your drinks, appetizers, and dinner plates. The show the cook put on was fun and entertaining. Service was very friendly and attentive.

The place was buzzing with loud electronic music and tons of people dining -- I think because the ceiling is so high the noise is amplified. Because it was so busy it took a while for the server to come over but he did with waters which was nice but then the menus are all on QR codes -- which is annoying because it is hard to look at everything and because the menu is very confusing it would have been nice to see everything on paper. The menu is confusing because the selections are very odd -- I thought it was a mexican-asian/sushi fusion restaurant -- which I guess it is but it was still really hard to create the best food experience when I couldn't see everything available. My friend was hungry so she immediately put in an order for calamari and I was being called to order the blood orange margarita slushie. When the margarita came it was like nothing I have ever seen before. It looked more like a milkshake or like a creamsicle. I dove in thinking it would be too sweet but it was actually quite delicious and I sucked it back in a second! Also I put in an order for the edamame which sounded really good in the description -- "woodfired" and spicy miso butter -- but when they came they were really spicy and the woodfired element was making me cough, strangely enough -- I couldn't finish them! Finally after waiting forever we got the drinks and apps. It then took another 15 minutes to order our food. Again it was busy and my friend and I were catching up so it wasn't a big deal. We wanted a fairly light dinner so we just ordered one roll -- the Fuego, which had yellowtail and a whitefish, chili, cilantro and cucumber plus a pico de gallo on top -- it was very flavorful -- although a bit spicy for those who are spice wimps like me. Overall, thought it was a good meal but wasn't blown away.

Presentation of food and beverages was memorable and very tasteful, the Zen garden drink guests ordered was mesmerizing. I enjoyed the Kyoto pop zero proof cocktail. For dinner my friend and I shared the Camelback cactus roll. Wow! What a unique medly of ingredients! Tahin, cream cheese, cactus, raw salmon, charred corn and orange! Utter perfection. Best roll I've had in my life! After the roll I had such high hopes for the Wagyu fried rice but unfortunately, I was disappointed. The steak was dry and cut, thin. The rice was not memorable. It just seemed like regular rice flavored with a few ingredients that didn't stand out. For nearly $60, I wish we would've chosen differently, and no one checked on satisfaction once food arrived. Nevertheless, I'll assume this was simply a poor choice of an entrée, and was still overall impressed with the atmosphere, menu options, and that first roll. Prices are high making it less appealing to try a bunch of different things so more a place for a special night out than to frequent.

We asked about the fish of the day and special fish which happened to be the same, mackerel, the day we went. Interestingly, the servers had no idea about the fish aspects of the menu and everything was deferred to the sushi chefs. Ordered a few temaki (hand rolls) - yellowtail and spicy tuna- and they were tasty! All the nigiri we ordered were fresh without fishiness, and had generous portions for the price. Nice to have fresh wasabi which had a nice kick and sweetness. Thoroughly enjoyed these nigiri: seared black cod, ocean trout, hamachi/yellowtail, unagi. Yuzu & rainbow rolls had super appetizing sauces. Ordered the uni from Japan which was supposed to be sweeter than creamier but this one was very distasteful for me, had a strong scent like saliva, and I was unable to tolerate it.
