Diabolical service with OK food. Yes it was busy, but I never expected to wait to be asked what food we wanted after 30 minutes with half of our table ordering food. We were here for 2.5 hours with a table of 7. Located by the entrance of the casino. Waters were filled often, but reasonable with the amount of time waited. Came for a birthday for a friend, only good occasion. We spent $127 for two drinks, two entrees, a side, and dessert. 10 servers, maybe 50 people dining in? Shrimp app was pretty okay with a kick. ($44) Risotto was pretty good. ($24) Burger had an asian touch, good. Potato fries were meh. Mushrooms were a big side (but yes for $11), salty. A table of 14 got their drinks and food within 30 minutes of sitting down. It even took 10 minutes to get our checks. read more

We went there to celebrate a birthday. The wait time for our appetizer was over 40 minutes. The server did a great job. Our dinners came out after an hour of waiting. Our check had several errors which were corrected after I pointed them out. We were charged $18.00 for a premium vodka and soda. You can get the same drink in the casino for $10.00. I asked the manager, why there was such a difference. He informed me that they make 2 ounce pours in the restaurant compared to 1 1/2 in the casino. This would be totally impossible, since the drink is in a rocks glass, there wouldn't be room for the mix. Instead of making some sort of concession, he was dismissive. We went there to celebrate my husband's birthday. We have been before and this time we took our two children. Each was able to find something to enjoy on the menu including the 40 ounce steak eaten by our teenage son, who said it was really good. Service was great! My friend and I had the pleasure of visiting Shkode for my bday weekend and we very much enjoyed our visit. I LOVE the ambiance of the restaurant. The darkness with a little bit of light from the fireplace was very romantic. Our server was friendly and knew the menu well. We ordered the crab cake for an appetizer which was very good...however...we had wished it came with two rather than just one. I ordered the NY Strip and my friend ordered the Filet Mignon. Both cuts were seasoned incredibly well and cooked nicely. We also ordered Mac n Cheese and the Maple Brussel Sprouts for sides and both were very delicious. The good. I will start off by saying - our server was FANTASTIC. She was training a new server, who made a little blip, but otherwise they were great. The space was cool and had a fun vibe to it. The not so good. It took nearly 55 minutes from when we were seated to when we got our appetizers. My husband ordered the wedge salad and I ordered the lobster bisque. The salad was excellent. The bisque had a few decent pieces of lobster but was very THIN and bland. It wasn't creamy or robust like lobster bisque should be, but it wasn't awful. I ordered a glass of Chardonnay, and my husband ordered water - they brought two glasses of wine out. Mine tasted very sweet but I told my husband I would drink it because I didn't want to say anything. I asked the server about it and she said the other server had accidentally brought a Riesling but I would only be charged for the Chardonnay. The ugly. The entrees were a complete miss. My husband ordered the filet (MW) and grilled shrimp. I ordered the salmon. I realize MW is more done than a steak should be, but this was BURNED. I ate one of his grilled shrimp and he asked how it was - I couldn't answer because I was still chewing. It was dry and tough, although the flavor was good. As for my salmon, the skin was soggy, there was zero seasoning on it, and it was dry. I wasn't going to say anything, but since it was my birthday dinner, my husband made me. The server offered to bring me something else, and if the selections she offered, I chose the scallops over tomato grits, which was AMAZING, although we were definitely up charged for it. She brought me an extra dessert for my birthday to take home. For our desserts, I ordered the crème brûlée and my husband ordered the seven layer chocolate cake. I would suggest to the chefs that if they are going to serve a previously frozen slice of cake, that you make sure it's completely thawed before you serve it. It still had ice crystals in the middle and my chocoholic husband (who only wanted to eat here for the cake) wouldn't eat it. We really enjoy a great meal - we don't do it too often, but this was quite possibly the worst $145 meal we've ever had, and unfortunately, it was the one night between now and my birthday that we have to go out to celebrate. read more

First time going to shkode chop house at gunlake casino and for a chop house setting and prices I was expecting more. We waited at the hostess station for a while until someone sat us, the waitress didn't know how to open a bottle of wine and when she did she broke the cork and spilled some wine on the table, came time for bananas foster and she didn't even know how to flambe the rum, the manager only went to 2 tables and skipped the rest of us. We're went there for our Anniversary, and mashed potatoes were so salty with garlic salt I couldn't even eat it. Several people I spoke to had a mediocre experience also. But the rest of our time at the hotel and casino was wonderful! read more

Had such an incredible meal tonight. I had the ginger picante to drink, SO yummy and refreshing. One of the best drinks I've ever had. We asked to slip a wedge salad and they were kind enough to split it for us on two plates. Lots of bleu cheese crumble, delicious. I had the scallops, great crust, soft on the inside, well seasoned. We ordered a variety of items as we went during their half off month, so we were able to get more bang for our buck ;) Appetizers: Jenga Fries ($11) - Truffle oil, pecorino, trio of sauces; each piece is literally the size of a larger jenga piece. Strong smell/taste of truffle, which we love! Oysters ($18) - vodka & cocktail sauce, apple mignonette; Yummy! Nothing additional to comment here. Pork Belly ($13) - Corn puree, arugula pesto, azuki beans, brioche crostini, under a smoked dome; The smoked dome added a nice charred flavor to the Pork Belly. Charred Spanish Octopus ($16) - Thai salad, forbidden rice, aromatic herbs; We somehow ended up with a really dinky piece, which was a bit disappointing. Flavor was all right - we still laugh about the size of the Octopus leg to this day lol Yellow Fin Tuna Carpaccio ($16) - Fennel & arugula salad, blood orange dressing; Great taste, but probably wouldn't order again because of the price v. size. You can get the same quality fish at some sushi restaurants in GR, for a better price/amount. Soup: Maryland Crab Chowder ($9) - Cream, carrots, celery, onion, potatoes; Cool presentation, nice flavor. It wasn't overly salty, and we really enjoyed the crab chunks. Entrees: 16oz. Ribeye Steak ($44) - 28 day wet aged, served with potato puree, asparagus; Steak was tender and juicy. Seafood Risotto ($36) - Shrimp, scallops, grilled 6oz. lobster tail; This was okay, probably wouldn't order it again. We've come here MANY times since they've opened as we live close by. At opening it was 5 stars on everything. Now?? Just there last night and were very disappointed. Staff was friendly but a long time between table visits left us wanting things we just did without. The Lobster Bisque is still a 5 STAR AMAZEMENT dish!! Can't go wrong with big lobster bites and creamy! The Charcuterie Board is always a yummy "go to" app! That's where anything good ended. I had 10 oz prime rib. Actually, I got glorified shoe leather!! I couldn't even chew it as it was so tough. I ordered med/rare. Same prime rib they serve in the AYCE buffet and that too is tough and chewy. Would've thought being a different restaurant in casino and that its being billed and sold as a high end steakhouse, it wouldn't be the same cuts. We were regrettably wrong! Husband had NY Strip and he gave it just an "okay meal". It wasn't anything to write home about in meat cuts. The Loaded Baked Potatoes are really good and large. Skip their Mashed Potatoes. No seasoning at all. Dry. Just not good at all. The quality of the food has definitely been on a SIGNIFICANT decline since opening approx 4 years ago. After our food and service last night it will be quite a long while, if ever, to return to the alleged high-end Gun Lake Shkode Steakhouse. Step it up guys!!! read more

I'm from Las Vegas and know a thing or two about casinos and steakhouses. So far, I've had trouble finding suitable dining experiences and, honestly, have had enough of casinos, but I'd heard good things so I decided to give Shkode a try. I've been here twice... Sat at the bar both times. Everything is Ala Carté, as is expected from a good steakhouse. I've had the ribeye both times, medium rare, and both times it has been perfect. Plus, they have a cabernet I really enjoy. Service with the two guys behind the bar has been spectacular. Second time in, the bartender remembered my previous order and just reordered it for me!!! How's that for service?! I can compare this to my other Michigan casino steakhouse experience in Battle Creek and I have to say, Shkode is the clear winner. I even prefer it to my downtown GR experiences, which have not proven worth the money. At Shkode, I get a steak, baked potato and a glass or two of wine and it's $70. Downtown GR was $120, no wine. Skode is the best steakhouse experience I've had since moving back to Michigan from Las Vegas... It's definitely worth it... read more

Not sure why I was a bit underwhelmed...I guess it was that we were supposed to be in a pretty high-endish steak house and you get to watch the people in the casino coming up to the windows to check out the menu. That is picky for sure but goes with the vibe I had of just not being super impressed. The service was not great...and it had nothing to do with staffing. There were so many hostesses and managers walking around. We had to wait for over 15 minutes for water and to get a HI. Then we ordered drinks and the bar was behind so we got bread and appetizers before our beverages showed up. The food was very good. We got the burrata appetizer and it was good. Our steaks (I got the filet and hubby got the bone in fillet) were delicious. The jenga fries were yummy and fun. The crème brûlée does deserve the recommendation that the manager gave us. Overall, when thinking of the bill and that it is trying to sell it's self as a high end steak house, I would rather head to Kzoo and go to Websters or up to GR. It is fun to be able to head right out and gamble of that is your thing though. read more

One of the nicest steakhouses I've been to which is due to the excellent customer service received here. We went to celebrate my mothers birthday, and they treated her like family through our dining experience. We ordered Burrata and Crab Cakes for an appetizer, and let me say you need to order the Crab Cakes here. I actually do not like crab cakes at all but the one we had here I could probably eat 3 in one sitting. Extremely juicy meat with flavorful spices combined to keep you hooked on this app. The burrata was soft and creamy, and they definitely add something to it to give it some extra flavor to go along with the cheesiness. The stone fruit compote was a perfect mixture to add to the cheese and bread. Passion fruit was brûlée'd perfectly to give the appetizer the right amount of citric acidity to compliment the creaminess of the burrata. Drinks are made very well and if you want a pretty drink to post this will definitely be pretty.. usually when something is made beautifully the taste lacks a bit, but this place can hit both aspects in stride. If you're looking for an amazingly sweet wine, the Baron Herzog Orange Muscat is an amazing moscato at $14 a glass but well worth it. As close as you can get to noble rot grapes in Tokaj region, without paying the price.. We then had the bone in filet, filet, and duck two ways. The steaks here are wet aged for 28 days and you can tell from the first slice you make. Extremely succulent and cooked perfectly, it was great to try it since you won't find it at any local steakhouses in town. Duck two ways is cooked medium rare to medium and was juicy and the fat was rendered perfectly. They do not advise you cook it more than that (neither would I) so if you're not a fan of pinker meat I'd stray from this specific dish, but it was fantastic. Desserts were amazing for only being $6, the creme brûlée was exceptional and extremely rich and creamy, moreso than your typical creme brûlée were the vanilla custard is light and almost airy. The pistachio creme brûlée was my favorite by far, just because the nutty flavor complimented the richness. Clare was an exceptional waitress/bartender and ensured our special day was spent like royalty and as if we were having dinner with family. Robert Chu is the general manager here and is extremely charismatic and knows how to keep customers happy. We will definitely be coming here from now on to celebrate our birthdays instead of the chophouse or Ruth's Chris. read more

Had a family dinner for 14 and it was absolutely amazing. The food was exquisite!! Loved the appetizers! The ribs, beef skewers and the firecracker shrimp....crabcake was the best I ever tasted. The steak was divine as were the potatoes. That's where my positivity ends for the most part. This is a pricey establishment where you kind of expect to get the utmost respect and service but I don't feel like we got that here. We started our order with two bowls of French onion soup. They came out look warm and very heavily based in tomato. The cheese wasn't browned or bubbly, not close to the wonderful elastic delight that I'm used to. We ate a quarter of it each and decided we wanted to have it wrapped up so we could save room for the main event. The steaks like I said, we're very good, the potatoes silky. The whole peppercorns on the steak were somewhat off putting and overly assertive. The asparagus was dense and woody. My husband ordered the Mac and cheese in place of the asparagus and while that DID come out warm and bubbly, underneath it was untouched by warmth. It took 20 minutes for a replacement (that I didn't necessarily feel was needed, the old one didn't taste bad it was just under). I then realized the server never came back with our soups to go...because she threw them out. She begrudgingly brought out 1 out of 2 soups as a replacement. We did opt for the crème brûlée for dessert and while I was already stuffed I was told unequivocally no this was not a to-go item on their menu. It came under a bed of cotton candy and apple compote, a little underwhelming to get to the ultra thin layer of crème and a thick brick of brûlée, points for seeing a lot of vanilla beans though. We were really excited to get out for nice dinner with friends. We started with the charcuterie board. It was average at best. Small amount of cheese on the plate to pair with the other items. The meats were flavorless aside from the smoked meat that tasted like it had been left in the smoker for a week. We then had a Caesar salad and the heirloom tomato salad. The Caesar tasted like fish and nothing else. They tomato salad was over powered with pepper. For the entree we decided to share the seafood platter. It was awful, everything over cooked, mussels were not edible, oyster were mush. Overall the food was awful. Service was slow and lacked attention. Offered bread and butter. It was delicious. Burger was ordered medium which waiter said was pink. If waiter would have come back it would have been returned. It was not bloody but more red than pink. The bottom bun was soaked with water or grease. Couldn't pick it up and eat it. Haystack potatoes were cold and far from enjoyable. Waiter never asked if we wanted another water or cocktail. Seafood risotto was ok. Nothing to write home about. Lobster tails were over cooked. Manager was making the rounds but obviously avoided our table. We would have told him our review. I have really tried to give this place a good review, but it really is disappointing. The filet is dry and definitely not prime cut. The bernaise sauce was a dish of solid butter. The au gratin potatoes had to be sent back because they were hard, raw potatoes. The bread is usually overcooked and too salty. The Macaroni and cheese side was just okay, no flavor. I came here with my boyfriend to celebrate finishing the school year. We were sat almost immediately and right by the fire place. The atmosphere was very nice and relaxing and super romantic. Our waitress was super attentive and was ready to get us whatever we needed. We got the charcuterie board for two which was fun to try and super yummy.
