2/4/26: I actually come here more frequently. I really like this place. I appreciate that they always try something new. This time it was alligator Poboy. An excellent start to something when I hope is a new addition to the menu. Like most good poboys very good role and sauce and excellent meat. Alligator was cooked, very juicy and not too much breading. The opportunity to make this better and more long-term: add tomatoes! But also I heard somebody complain. It was too spicy. I didn't think so, but I recommend replacing the spicy pickles with some sweet bread and butter, pickles. Service is always outstanding. Special kudos to Johnny. I absolutely love the sand bar and grill I wish they weren't as packed as they are consistently but I can also understand why their food is fantastic there's an open bar the fried mushrooms are absolutely to die for. Stopped in for dinner and walked out pleasantly surprised. The staff members were super friendly from the moment we walked in. I went with the fish and chips while others at the table had smothered chicken, shrimp, and my daughter had the kids mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was real and my daughter loved it. We all loved the seasoned fries and the server was raving about them. The only thing I didn't love was my coleslaw. The outdoor patio had a huge fire pit keeping it warm during the cold months but we opted to sit inside where there were TVs. We will definitely be back. read more

My husband and I have been coming for the past 3 weekends now and have gotten the kabob bucket with it being incredible. Last night we went and it wasn't very busy but our server was running around, very frantic and kept forgetting things. when our food came out the sides were wrong and I mentioned it right away. The server said she would go get that fixed but by the time we were done with our meal the right side still hadn't come out yet and I told her to just take the up charge of the side off. My husband had gotten the cajun fish and it was cold, wet and no crisp. We had the best time here! Six of us get together every summer for our Girls' Trip, and we found this place. There's a restaurant with outdoor seating, plus a Biergarten out back. We had an excellent Bushwacker drink while we waited for our table on the patio. There were picnic tables, a live band playing, and the nicest people serving us! We ate here for the first time yesterday. The appetizer was good. The bone in wings but they don't toss them. Either way they were good. I asked the waitress if The Cove was a fruity drink and she said it was. It was terrible. I advised I only like fruity drinks and asked her opinion she just looked at me and said the cove had grenadine in it. I ordered the wagyu steak with chimichurri sauce. It wasn't good at all. The chimichurri sauce tasted like grass clippings. I already put on my steak and I was choking from the awful taste. My husband said his burger was good. I just didn't have a good experience with the overall food. The atmosphere is quaint. Just the food isn't. It also didn't taste like a wagyu steak I usually order. Good service but the Oberon battered cod and fries with cole slaw was VERY skimpy. When the server brought it to the table she said this is a regular serving, but they are making you more. When she served it there were 3 bite sized pieces and a handful of fries. Cole slaw was on the side. She did bring two small pieces of cod to the table a short time later. read more

The Staff at the Sand Bar are really Outstanding! It's nothing to see people getting hugs as they enter and being called by their first names. The Owners Kyle and Kenna couldn't be better, they talk to their guests and make sure everyone feels Welcomed and Special. I had a Steak that was so good, perfect seasoning and cooked exactly how I like it. And if you go don't sleep on the appetizers the Mushrooms are amazing. My husband and I were on our way back from car shopping and needed a little quick "us" time before picking up our kiddo. We wanted something tasty and in the area and found this sweet spot! We treated ourselves to greasy food, because why not? We ordered the fried pickles to start. Wow! I'm a stickler for these! They were salty but not overpowering and the crunch was perfect throughout each bite. They never got soggy. Next we had the Sand Bar burger, because if their name is on it, it's got to be good! The burger was cooked just right, a nice medium. It could have used a little more seasoning for my taste but it was straight up a classic juicy burger. The tater tots were so good! So I've been a local customer through this restaurants entirety and in my opinion the food and the service has gotten worse. I just to joke be ready to spend and hour at the sand bar well now it's about an hour+ and waiting for your bill is what seems like takes forever. I get every place has a lot of up and down but everything's changed so much the desire to go to the sand bar has dropped especially being one of the few restaurants on Gun lake. read more

The place is under new management and it seems to be running pretty good. The wait for us to get a table was about 30 minutes but it was during the dinner rush. The place is cozy inside with a mix of booth and table seating. The bonus is it has a small bar inside and outside with additional seating outside in like a patio type setting. The staff was friendly and we're definitely working. The food was good and the prices reasonable. The chicken marsala was good but the marsala sauce was a bit too gravy like for me. The two chicken breasts were done and not dry. The rice was standard and good. The grilled broccoli was delicious. The other item we got was a skewer bucket. You get a choice of chicken, steak or shrimp in any combination for 6 skewers. We did three shrimp and three steak. The shrimp was flavorful but a bit over done. The steak was well done but not overdone. The grilled vegetables were delicious as well. The menu photos can give you more details. Overall, the place was good and will be seeing us again. read more

The food and quality have severely gone down hill. I've had food listed as one thing via menu and not even close to what was ordered. I've had raw shrimp now 5 different times. My daughter has not received what she ordered the past three times we've been. Highly disappointed in this establishment. Decided to try Taco Tuesday on 7/9. Three double corn shell tacos with bbq chicken, pineapple and slaw on top. Served with chips. The big chicken was flavorless. The shells had been pan fried and were crunchy. The pineapple and slaw was nothing special. The chips were stale and came with nothing to dip them in. $15.00. The service was spotty. We were told the tacos would be spicy but they were bland. We chose to eat inside. The place could use some work. Bathrooms were surprising as they are single occupancy. "Wayland Area" is promoting "Between the Buns" and the Sand Bar & Grill has put up a winner. They are already famous for their White Chicken Chili but this Monte Cristo sandwich is epic! The place was busy, the service was gracious, and we chose a tall table directly under a heating vent! We sat in the bar area...lots of natural wood, football game on the screens, people laughing, eating, and enjoying their company! I had a Glenlivet, neat, and my wife had their signature gin and tonic, tall. My Monte Cristo was amazing! Part sando, donut, raspberry jammy deliciousness! She had a Mushroom Swiss burger, cooked to med rare, "on the beach". No bun for her...served on a bed of tots, instead!!! This place continues to up their game! read more

Second time being at the Sandbar. My husband had a Delmonico that was delicious a few years ago. He wanted to go back for his birthday. We were told they were out but gave us the NY Strip steak for the same price. So good! I had the walleye which was great as well. I would have to actually get service to tell you how the food is. Got sat next to the bathroom and there I sat, not so much as a glass of water. 30 minutes I sat there watching tables fill up and get service before me despite me arriving before them. Had the honor of smelling the urinal cake every time someone used the bathroom which made for an awesome ambiance. I doubt they have even noticed I left. My family and I came here this past weekend for dinner. It was packed when we walked in due to one of the few places that was open for miles, but managed to snag a table in the bar area. We ordered chips and salsa as an appetizer. Drink: Watermelon Martini. Nice and refreshing. It smelled like a watermelon jolly rancher. Entree: Steak Wrap. It came with lots of meat, feta cheese, lettuce, and tomato, which was very tasty and was a nice portion. I had fries on the side that came in wedges. The special that night was the prime rib, which came with mashed potatoes, gravy, and corn. My mom order this. The slab of meat was huge, but tasted really good. Going to the Sandbar is always a great time. Kyle the owner is amazing and his staff is so attentive. Tonight Sofia had her first night and she did great she handled herself well. We started the night with Bang Bang Shrimp and the artichoke pita dip. The main course was Ribs and omg they were fall off the bone deliciousness. End the evening with peanut butter cheesecake and you will be in the best food coma ever! read more

We ordered the Bang Bang shrimp and it was delicious as usual, however our meals were a total disappointment. My husband ordered the cajun shrimp and pasta that was suppose to have tomato, pepper, onion jalapeño peppers and shrimp. The only thing in the dish was spaghetti and shrimp swimming in oil. I had the feisty norwegian that is suppose to have stir fried vegetables in a slightly spicy sauce. There was no spicy sauce and the vegetables were crisp as in over cooked. Went to the Sand Bar on a Saturday around 2:30 p.m., the place was about half full with customers. Our waiter was good for the most part, a little overwhelmed with tables and failed to see our sun was not eating his burger, but eating our chicken strips. The reason? His burger had clearly turned, the burger tasted sweet and funky, like the meat had starts to go bad . Our chicken strips were thin and overcooked, several of them were black on one side, the broccoli was super salty, as were the fries. My husband got his beer refilled easily, not so much with our sodas. The crowd was okay, except fora couple of tables which were clearly over served and loudly yelling at each and partying. I was hoping the new owners would succeed, but it's clear they are skimping on quality, consistency and portions. After speaking with friends who had the same experiences, and also wanted the place to succeed, we won't be back. Pass on the Sand Bar, keep on swimming. read more

Stopped into the Sand Bar and Grill for a late lunch this week. The food here was really good! The fried mushrooms were light & crisp, not soggy at all. The smoked fish dip was fresh & creamy. The fiesta salmon was delicious! There were 4 of us and we were all happy with our meals and drinks. Our server, Felicia, was attentive & friendly. Very disappointed in how much the quality of this place has gone down. I ordered a burger, fries, and a Diet Coke. It's cost me over $18 (with the tip) and I only got ten fries with my burger. I'm not giving a 3 star review because it's terrible. If you're in the area, it's probably your best choice for food and drinks. They have a decent bottle selection and a few craft beers on tap. Our food was good, not terrible but not amazing. My husband had a beef and bean wet burrito. It was warm at best. Of course everything is prepped ahead, assembled and heated once ordered. It could've definitely been heated much longer. I typically order light beans in things because I feel like restaurants always fill the taco or burrito with beans to fill up space and use less meat and other ingredients. That was definitely my opinion here. Too many beans for my liking. I ordered chicken Alfredo which was good. I've had better and I've also had worse. They're known for their chicken chili. It is really good but it's very thick and creamy. It's almost like chicken and cheese. This was also just barely warm and not even close to hot. Gone are the customer favorite dishes, gone are the crowds of paying customers....there are lots of parking spaces and tables available now that the new owners have remade the menu the way THEY want it. The prices are a lot higher and the favorites that generations have come to love are gone. Age old conundrum faced by new owners. Keep what has worked well forever or change everything, raise prices, shrink portions and re-invent the wheel so to speak, It never works!! Maybe they should watch a few episodes of Bar Rescue before it is Too Late. Like many, I will be looking for a new place to go. Any suggestions? read more

Here's some constructive criticism for you. I ate at your place the other day and had a bullseye Burger. David asked me how I wanted it cooked and I told him medium. It came out cooked "Done" instead of medium. The burger was dry. I would suggest you guys go down to Burger King and check out the Buns on their Whoppers. They have sesame seeds on them and are very soft and pair well with the burger. I was not real impressed with your buns on your burgers. I probably will not order another hamburger there until you change things up. Good luck with your venture until you get things figured out. Hope this helps. read more
