Date of visit: January 20, 2024 (Saturday) Verdict: This branch has the WORST customer service and store policy on any retail establishment that I've ever encountered. Recap: I purchased a pair of Jordan sneakers. I wore them on January 19 to discover that there was a defect on the right shoe. Something is protruding inside the right medial side of the right shoe that actually left a lump on my right foot the size of a large facial acne. I was already out of town in San Diego so I had to bear the pain until I got home. :( Next day, Jan. 20, we went to Shoe Palace (SP) at the Brea Mall. My wife had an appointment at Nordstrom so it was perfect that the mall had a SP branch as well. I spoke to the SP Brea Mall manager and he said it's no problem to exchange the shoe. Unfortunately, they didn't have my size in stock. He looked into the stock gadget and saw that the SP Lakewood Mall had 3 of my size in stock. Perfect! From the Brea Mall, we head to the Lakewood Mall. I met a young guy at the checkout counter and told him the story. He said that I couldn't return nor exchange the shoe since they are now considered worn. He even suggested that it's probably my socks that caused it. LMAO!!! I asked for the manager. She basically stuck to the same story. I told her that she can just exchange the right show, if possible. Still a no! I asked her what should I do to these defective Jordans since they are useless to me and I basically threw away my hard earned money into the trash bin. She said to give them to charity. LMAO!!! Let somebody else experience the pain LOL! I told her that their store sucked and that their store policy blows. As I walked away, she said "Have a good rest of your day." - - - Who the eff is going to have a nice day after such BS. SMH. Again, I was NOT returning the shoes and asking for a refund. I just wanted the defective right shoe exchanged. Yesterday was a tough day for my family, especially my husband so i went in to purchase a pair of Jordans for my husband to try to cheer him up and it was one left in his size but it was on hold for someone. Jesus went above and beyond to see if they were still getting the shoes so that he can sell them to me if not. I waited until he got a call back with decision and ended up leaving with the shoes! Jesus did what others would not do and made that call to secure the sale and customer satisfaction. This was one of the most greatest customer service experiences for me. I went to 2 two other shoe stores and both had horrible customer experiences. In this market customer service is what drive sells. When I walked into Shoe Palace I was encountered by this warm greeting by a gentleman by the name of Austan. He asked us if we were finding everything ok. He even offered to bring some selection of shoes out so we could make a better decision. I ended up purchasing 2 pair of shoes for my daughter and son. Austan is amazing at making a connection with the customer and should be on a path to management because he should be educating other on his expertise. Soon as I walked into the store the vibe was off I got no help what so ever and when I was looking for stuff this short Mexican lady that's young with blonde hair told me that anything that has the metal detector I can't get because the thing to remove it is broken. My son received a Visa gift card for Christmas and we went into this location today to use it to buy a pair of shoes. When we went to pay I handed the cashier a Visa gift card and the sales associate says, she needs to ask her boss if she can take this. I asked why when the register has a Visa sticker, clearly stating they accept this form payment. The sales associate walks to the back with the gift card, and comes back out saying her boss says she can't accept it. I asked her why and she said they got an email from the District Manager stating they can't take these types of cards. I then asked if it states in the store policy or to show me something in writing that states that. She attempted to call her DM and they didn't pick up. Now I'm confused, you accept Visa but my card is no good here. I asked to speak with her boss and comes out and he says the same thing and when I ask for the policy that states it he says, he has a bunch of emails he'd have to go through and he doesn't have to show me. Really? So you accept Visa but can't give me a reason why I'm unable to use my card. He walks away and also tries to call his DM and he didn't get in contact with him. The manager comes back out and says, Just this one time I'll I'll accept the card. I know where I won't shop to purchase shoes in the future. After looking at my bank account they charged my debit card for the FULL amount and my Gift card is now at a zero balance. The sales associate Amanda and boss completed Fraud. I am in shock right now (well, not really but for dramatic effect for this review I write that). I went into SHOE Palace and was so pleased with the selection for both adults and kids. When I told the sales person that I needed shoes for my 3 boys I also told her I didn't quite know their true sizes and needed a measuring thingy. She blankly and yet quite rudely answered "we don't have shoe measuring things." (with the "duh, didn't you know" attitude to go with it). SAY WHAAAA?? . A shoe store (with SHOE in the title) doesn't have a way to measure your feet? I swore she was joking (which is not a funny joke, now that I am thinking about it). As I asked if she was for real she rolled her eyes and said, "Um yeah we took them out of the store because people were complaining that we weren't measuring them right.". I still think she was jerking around with me. What the heck? That is truly absurd IMO. Yes I realize many people know their sizes, and size doesn't matter in most cases (enter bedroom joke here) but for many of us we would like to know our shoe size... I digress---- actually wait...HONESTLY I should NOT have to defend the simple idea of having shoe measuring thingies in a SHOE store!!! I'm so sad because they had a great selection but I just couldn't get past this NO shoe measuring thing.... The good thing about malls is there are several shoe stores that DO care about shoe size (LIKE ALL the other stores!!??!!). This place is a double edged sword for me... They have a great selection, yes. But oh my god seriously! You walk in and someone asks if you need help. So you say "I'm just looking, thanks." Then 2 minutes later another one. "I'm just looking, thanks." Then another, then another. The last few times I've been there I've seen a pair of sweet kicks and I've almost bought them but then ANOTHER employee has come up to ask if I need help, so I've just left and bought them at another store.
