Friendly staff, probably high but nice people. Noticed a $10 upcharge on Birkenstocks... when asked that was just what they charge.

Roxanne's maintains an impressive selection of various comfort-brand shoes, as well as a section for ballerina-specific necessities. The staff there was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, there is little room to look at this selection and comfortably try any shoes on. In fact, it can get downright claustrophobic and crowded, which makes for a very unsatisfying shopping experience. The overall quality of the shoes is good, but you had better be prepared to pay for that quality because the prices are extremely high. I would recommend Roxanne's if you are looking for ballerina shoes and tights for your little girl, or if you are in need for some sturdy slippers for some at-home lounging. read more

I try to buy local as I fear online shopping will do away with in person shopping. At 5:55 a few evenings ago my friend and I went to try on Birkenstocks. We both found pairs we wanted. We were informed by a young man that he had already closed out his register and if we wanted to purchase our shoes we had to pay in cash. I'm sorry but I don't carry $200 in cash these days. Not sure why the door was open or why we weren't told that upon entering. We weren't the only ones... a couple were there to buy crocks and they were told the same and immediately left. I'd give zero stars if I could. Worst customer service ever!!! I should say there isn't any customer service. Bought a pair of Birkenstocks without any help only to a week later buy a pair from REI that fit better. Didn't have any information about Birkenstock having different widths. Contacted them without wanting anything in return to have 5 different people respond back only getting defensive and bullied me. I'm a local and will never return. Been living on the central coast for 8 years and no wonder I've never had anyone recommend buying from them. Also they claim Birkenstocks wanted them to charge more. I was charged $20 more for the same pair that all retailers sell plus they add on a percentage fee so I had to pay $6 to use my credit card. This place is a joke and everyone who works there had an attitude. Made me feel way to uncomfortable to ever walk back in. You can find all the shoes they have online that are less money with a return/exchange policy with no credit card fees. They don't care if the customer is happy. I purchased my Birkenstock's here a few yrs ago and the staff here was super helpful then. Yesterday my Son and I went in searching for toe shoes. He loves them! The staff search the back and came up with two pair that would fit. Lots of different comfy shoes to choose from here. Great customer service, great selection--not so great $4.73 "credit card processing fee" tacked onto the transaction that is not clear, is not brought to your attention at any point when you're shopping or checking out, and is only discovered when you bother to scrutinize your receipt. This is a deeply weird thing to do. Before tax, I'm spending $150 on a product as a baseline. These are expensive shoes. To charge me an additional $5 to, I guess, cover your credit card processing fee is beyond absurd. There is no other store in SLO that would see you spending $150+ and say "sorry but we've just gotta get that extra $5 out of you!" It reeks of desperation and I feel like I was taken advantage of. What's weirder is how minuscule this amount is. Just enough to annoy all customers, but far too small to make a meaningful difference in their bottom line. Oh well! I'll remember this curmudgeonly approach to business the next time I buy a pair of my favorite Birks. Too bad. read more

TLDR: Amazing selection, but the customer service is consistently uninspiring. What I mean: I've gone in a few times and there is a ton of selection. Yay! Though, as a first time Birkenstock purchaser, I need help around things like sizing, longevity, style... (I feel like I throw the staff a lot of soft-ball questions). But the staff never really answer me and only do the bare minimum; i.e. they won't engage with me unless I directly ask, "Can I see this style in my size?" Then they'll pull out a few boxes and silently stand there or walk back to stand at the register. Pro: Fine store if 1) you know what you want, 2) you're in SLO, and 3) you want an immediate purchase. Con: I wouldn't really go if you need help, want to understand the product more, or are on the fence. After about 3 different visits, I still don't own a pair. read more

Staff was friendly and helpful. I wanted to buy a pair of Birkenstocks for my birthday but needed to try on for size. I traveled about an hour to get there. I tried on one shoe for sizing and purchased. I got charged a fee for using my debit card. That was weird, especially after spending over 160.00. I got home and put them on to wear and they didn't feel right. One was stretched out more. I figured it was probably a display at one point. So i had to drive all the way back to exchange. Sadly the customer service here is often lacking, and seems to have gone downhill. It's certainly a tough business to run, in these days of online retailers. And I've heard from small business owners in SLO that it's gotten really difficult to hire good workers. And in the past I have had some really good service experiences here, which is why I've been a loyal customer. I've been buying my sandals here, at Roxanne's, for as long as I've lived in SLO (about 10 years) but after having gone in two weeks in a row this year to try on sandals and getting terrible service both times (from different staff on different days). Went in today and asked to try on several styles and was met with a nasty young woman's attitude. No smile, no greeting, no service. Turns out there were 4 other staff working in the back, and they seemed to have different ideas of what sizes were in stock. None of them offered good service, one came out with the right size. Nobody bothered to come back and check on me, or find another size. I had to go find someone to get another size. There was only one other customer in the store at the time, who was also sort of just waiting for service. Crickets! Meanwhile, 5 staff in the back... all looked to be petty young, perhaps they just need better training and/or a manager. They ought to hire better staff and train them well. They've lost me as a loyal customer. I will be buying footwear elsewhere from now on. read more

My husband has known for a while that I have been wanting a pair of uggs. Not just any.... I keep ruining the sand colored pieces of crap. I walk through anything and shuffle my feet.... yes I'm a shuffler.... but ONLY while wearing these ugly boots. He had this fantastic idea of buying me a chocolate pair as a birthday gift and before he could finish asking.... I said YES!!!!! After 5 stores, 2 cities, we found them here at this store. The last pair. The sales girl was so attentive and sweet. They had a HUGE selection of brands.... crocs, birks, rocket doggs, MBTs, danskos..... they even had a separate room for kids.... same brands... not the MBTS though. Nice store. I wasn't feeling good about going here, based on the many negative reviews I read here, but it turns out I was very pleased with the entire experience. I showed up in the late afternoon, (2:30 ish). There was one salesgirl, and she was down on the floor vacuuming as I came in the door. She greeted me warmly, enquired as to my experience wearing Birks, asked if I knew what I was looking for & directed me appropriately. She obviously got the vacuum put away quickly, because she was with me quickly, answering my questions knowledgeably, (as she wears several styles of Birkenstock's herself, which was fantastic, as I've only had one pair). I have purchased my kids several pairs of shoes here as SLO has few options in town for children's shoes. The first few purchases went ok, however, they don't have a wide variety of children's shoes. The most recent transaction didn't go well. I was dealing with an employee by the name of Kailey Sohn (I asked for her card) and she was extremely unprofessional, and lacking any form of business etiquette. Since I was so upset by her abrupt manner, I asked for the contact information of the person she reports to. She said she is the person that runs the entire company. Since she refused to give me the contact for someone higher up, I asked if she owned the company, her response was 2%. She refused to provide the contact information I requested. As a local business professional I would be mortified if one of my employees (that was probably gifted 2% of my company) treated customers with this approach. San Luis Obispo is a small town, and one would guess that most businesses can't afford to lose customers. With that said, I do like to support our local shops, but not at the expense of poor customer service. Roxanne's prices are not competitive at all and their selection is lacking. I chose to shop here because I want to shop local, however, I will take my hard earned money elsewhere. I can buy shoes online for a fraction of the price and get free shipping as well. I wish I had gotten the young woman's name who helped us here. She was so patient and helpful. I had just purchased my first pair of birkenstocks somewhere else and wanted to get my husband his first pair. She fitted him for his narrow shoes and told him everything there was to know about soft soles and hard soles, leather vs suede, etc. She fetched SO MANY PAIRS of shoes as my husband made the tough decision on style and color and she never balked. She was so happy to help and offered to even punch a couple extra holes in the leather in case the suede straps stretched and got too loose for his narrow feet. Overall a wonderful experience. Made me want to buy a 2nd pair! I'll be back here for them. read more

She didn't know why and stated that if I ordered on line there would be no taxes as long as I was outside SLO...? I knew better about taxes in Ca, but it was worth saving $20 on the item to wait and get it in the mail. Shoesurfing gets 2 stars as well. Every indication on line was that they were in stock, and why not, they had them at the store... The day after I ordered them, I started getting emails stating that they were waiting for them to be shipped by the manufacturer. Now, two weeks later to the day, it has supposedly been shipped. In terms of altering your belt size, Roxanne's birkenstock dealer is as good as it gets. When i called them to see if they could help me add a hole in my bed, they were more than friendly in answering my questions. When i came in the next day to actually add the hole in my belt. The employee was very tentative to my request and helped me punch a hole in my belt exactly to my preference. I called another local shoe dealer/ repair shop about adding a hole in my belt. They charge $3.99 for the first 2 holes, and an additional dollar for every hole afterwards. Guess how much Roxanne's charged - NOTHING. It was absolutely free. Best shoe store in the county by far. I have been coming here for years and have been treated so well. I have a real hard time finding proper fitting shoes but Kailee (I think her name is) is always there to help me. I have planter fachitits and she knows about this condition and is knowledgeable in getting me shoes that will work for my condition. I always get great help and she seems to always be the one there when I stop in. Doe she ever get a day off? :) I had a pair of birkenstocks I got somewhere else before I started shopping here a few years ago and they were able to help with some issues that I had with the shoes and got everything taken care of where the other store basically said send them to the manufacturer yourself. Super frustrating! I bought a pair of Birkenstocks (from their very limited sizing selection), regrettably they didn't work. Now I'm stuck trying to find a pair of shoes there. The service has been great, however, management's exploitative policy of no matter what - "exchanges or store credit only", is what compels me to write this review. They do not refund your money for ANY reason! If you exchange the shoes you originally purchased, and the ones you end up buying are less expensive than the original ones, they still won't refund you the difference! You're stuck with store credit for the remaining amount!!! I don't know ANY other shoe store in town that has this unreasonable policy. I will never be stuck in this situation again. Please, before you decide to purchase anything from this store be ABSOLUTELY sure (without a doubt) that you're going to keep the shoes, or be sure that you're going to be able to find another pair of shoes there (it's not as easy as you think, I was mistaken). In case you were wondering, the shoes I originally purchased were NOT on sale, if you purchase shoes on sale you aren't allowed to even exchange them. Your purchase is final. Let me preface this with saying that I've never written a Yelp review before but I sincerely felt wronged by Roxanne's Birkinstock... I bought a pair of Birkinstocks back in December for my boyfriend for Christmas and very explicitly stated that he is a size 13. The person (a man with a beard) helping me convinced me that since he himself is a size 13 but wears a size 11 in Birks, that I should buy a Men's size 11 in Birkinstocks, which translates to a size 43 - hesitantly I trusted him since he's the professional and he sent me on my way with a size 43. Come Christmas the sandals were way too small and a quick google search showed that that advice from the bearded salesperson was bogus (see Birkinstock sizing chart below) -- I should have easily been given a size 46 in Birkinstocks! (YOU HAD ONE JOB PEOPLE!) https://www.birkenstockusa.com/help/how-to-fit Embarrassed about a great gift gone wrong, I immediately ordered the shoes from amazon to be mailed to him since he lives in SD and I live in SLO and there's no way for him to come to SLO to exchange. When I went to return the size 43 to the store, they informed me there was absolutely no way to get a refund they apologized for telling me the wrong size... So here I was with $140 of shoe currency I don't even need. Now that I'm also moving to SD, I went in and offered to buy a new pair of shoes with my store credit but would like to be reimbursed the difference given the situation/prior experience-- they completely refused saying the situation didn't warrant a reimbursement. And even the owner (Kayla?) told me that if I wanted to voice a complaint I could call the number on her card and get through to her husband, Kevin... Cool. *Moral of the story is for a business with "BIRKINSTOCK" IN THE NAME -- the sales people DO NOT even know their own size chart and are completely unwilling to correct their mistakes. read more

I want to give them 0 star if I could. I hate leaving bad reviews but I want people to be aware of their customer service. I went the store to get a pair of white birkenstock for my daughter's bday. They didn't have it in my daughter's size. The salesperson told me that he can order online for me and that I will be able to get them in a week or 2. I was surprised because even birkenstock website didn't have white one in my daughter's size. White one is hard to get, everywhere I tried who sold birkenstock, they were out. So I was happy this store was able to get them. I paid, and sales person said, since it's a holiday(we were there on labor's day), he won't be able to place on order that day, someone will do it the next day. I came home and was afraid they might not come on time for my daughter's birthday So I called and left a message saying I want to cancel the order. The next morning, around 1, someone from the store (I think it was the manager) called me saying that they just heard the message I left but they already placed in order that morning and they won't be able to cancel the order. I asked them when shoes will be available, and he said that they don't know. It could take up to 1 month, 2 months or even longer. They don't have exact date. I didn't want to wait that long. For real??? Who would make customer pay for an item they don't even know when it's going to be available??? I asked for full refund and he told me very rudely Store return policy is no refund, only store credit. I was upset. I was not told it could take that long for shoes to come in. Salesperson told me about a week or 2. No one explained about return policy. He said it's not their fault that I didn't read the return policy. I explained to him that I was given false information about when I would be getting the shoes. Also explained to him that my daughter is young and her feet are growing still. I can't just wait for the shoes not knowing when I would get them, and what if it comes after 2-3 months and they don't fit my daughter's feet anymore??? He didn't care. He didn't care his employee didn't give me correct information. He didn't care how I felt. He was very rude and not wanting to work with me. I left a message and that its their responsibility to check their voicemail first thing in the morning when they come to work. It's ridiculous how these people don't care about customer service. He didn't even apologize for something his employee did. He said he will talk to that salesperson and find out what he said to me. So manager basically doesn't even trust me? He complained to me that people just come into the store to try on for a size and order online. Obviously I wasn't doing that. I went in, they didn't have my daughter's size and salesperson told me he can order them and I can get them within 2 weeks. I ordered thinking I will get them. But Manager doesn't even know when they are getting them. So who's fault is this??? customers???? Their prices are more than birkenstock website, and these people have no clue how to run a business. I would never go back to this store, will tell all my friends to never buy anything there. Never had such bad experience in a local store! This store is great. I purchased all three of my Birks here and I have a pair of Keens as well. The staff has special ordered a couple of shoes for my mom and repaired my sister's Birkenstocks. Everyone has always been super helpful. I would definitely recommend checking out this store if you like attention to detail along with cute and comfy shoes. If there were a NO STARS option, this is where I'd apply it. I am a local and like to keep my money local. Support the little guys, right? In this case, big mistake. I have been here three times (THREE) to purchase a pair of Birkenstock sandals. I have Amazon Prime, I could have done it that way (hindsight, people, hindsight). The first time I went in, there were NO OTHER PEOPLE in the store. The salesgirl was talking on the phone the whole time and didn't give me the time of day. Since my lunch break is short, I left. Second time, salesgirl was helping another customer. No eye contact, no "can I help you find something" when the other gal left. The ONLY reason I gave it the old 3rd chance was clearance. The sandals I wanted went on clearance. They were outside on the shelf and had no price. The salesgirl (very young/blonde) was helpful and looked for another pair of shoes in the back. Ended up matching the price to another pair on the rack. Great. Perfect. Go inside to pay; this is where it goes nuts. I can't even tell you all the details because you'd have to pull up a chair and smoke a pipe. It came down to this: I wanted to pay half cash, half credit card. She said no problem. PROBLEM. After running my card for the wrong amount, taking my cash, forgetting to refund my card, calling her manager, giving me back my cash, forgetting to print a customer copy of the receipt OR refund, I was sweating and wanting to leave. But she was holding my card and talking on her phone to the manager. She ran my card for the correct amount and told me I was good to go. HERE'S THE PART WHERE I COULD HAVE STOLEN. She never took my cash back. I could have left and taken my cash with me. I did not do that. I handed her the cash. She said nothing except thank you for your patience. Peace out sister, I won't be coming back. Customer service is EVERYTHING! If you want to keep customers coming back and happy? Pay attention to the people buying from you. super cool little store. I walked in wanting my first pair of Birkenstocks with a very vague idea of what size I wore and what style I wanted. I looked at a few styles and asked the clerk, Stacy, to see if she had my size. she had a ton of information and helped me pick out exactly which shoe felt best. after trying on a few styles I had found one that I really liked, however they didn't have my size in them and I started to get huffy, but Stacy (she was a really good salesperson and very quick witted) brought out some limited edition "Orlando" style sandals that were a similar color and I fell in love with them, so all was forgiven. not only are they unique, but they already feel so good! I'm super pleased w my purchase, can't stop looking at my feet. I'm giving the visit 4 stars just because they didn't have my size in a few different styles and didn't greet me upon arrival, but, all in all, clean store, happy atmosphere, and a very nice sales girl. not to mention outside I saw a huge sale rack, so if there's a time to go, I'd assume it would be now!
