My first visit here was nearly three weeks ago and when I walked in immediately he remembers me and what i drink (Coke Zero). If you want affordable good food then try it out. Based on being a Sushi restaurant in Utah Valley, Shoga is as good as it gets. I've been many times and have never been disappointed. My wife and I always get sushi. The classics are prepared well and they usually have daily rolls or weekly specials that are always excellent and fun to try. Being in a land locked state, it's hard to find a good sushi spot, especially in Utah county. Shoga is definitely my favorite in my area. As far as I can tell, their fish is fresh and their flavors are good. I've had a variety of rolls here and they're always good. The gyoza is some of my favorite I've had! Boyfriend doesn't eat seafood so he always orders the Shoga steak. It's delicious. He claims its one of the best steaks he's ever had. They also have acorn squash in their tempura veggies and its dreamy. Definitely my go to place in Utah county for sushi. Oh and they just relocated around the corner from where they used to be. We were visiting from California and came here for lunch before our return home. Sadly, it was not the best meal with which to finish our visit to Utah. The server was nice and polite. However, the sushi chef and the quality of the sushi we ordered left much to be desired. We tried a series of different sushi rolls. The best of them was the Wasatch Roll, but only because it is very hard to screw up a California Roll with a little Sriacha on the top. The salmon and spicy tuna rolls were okay but the chef is chintzy on the meat, surrounding it with too much rice. The Rainbow Roll was only partly edible, the white fish on it was well past its freshness period and was smelly and tasted horrible. The ahi tuna on the Rainbow Roll did not smell but tasted overly fishy. If this is the most highly reviewed sushi that Orem and Provo has to offer, I will gladly wait until I return home next time to eat quality seafood. read more

I have no clue what Amie R. is talking about in terms of service. I'm one of the pickier kind when it comes to service and growing up in Europe, rules in regards of tipping is quite different and I still have the habit of tipping according to the service the waiter/waitress provides and my visit at Shoga ended with a decent tip. One of the waitresses showed us to our table right away and while it was pretty packed on a Friday evening, the three waitresses working that night were really fast without being rude to the customers. Orders were picked up about 5-10 min after we were seated - just enough time to look through and decide what you want to order, without giving the extra time to think "Where the heck is my waitress?". Albeit busy, me and my company were not treated as if we were taking up their time. She was attentive and polite, checking back often to refill our glasses, but not so frequent that it felt like she might as well grab a chair and hang out with us. Food wise, they have a bunch of traditional rolls but also a list of special rolls. Other than sushi, they serve some of the usual Japanese dishes; tonkatsu, donburi, etc. The Tonkatsu we ordered sadly tasted a bit like it's been fried in old oil, but it came in a gigantic serving. Tried out the Agedashi tofu as well and it's pretty good. :) Price? Not the cheapest, but also not unreasonably pricey. Tonkatsu, one roll of sushi and agedashi tofu ended up in under $40. Though I do think they are the priciest in this area. The only thing I'm not in favour with at Shoga is the fact that it's a pretty small restaurant so you overhear the discussions at every single table around you. I can't say the food is fantastic or anything that stands out. But I do think this is a place that is worth a visit if you're in the area and craving Japanese food. read more

I've been going to Shoga since it first opened, and my family and I love it. My favorite rolls are the Shoga Special, Dynamite, Salmon Crunch, Mama Mia, New York and Fresh. I got the lunch sushi special, which is $9.50 for two rolls and a miso soup. You get to pick two of their traditional rolls, which were California, tuna, spicy tuna, salmon, vegetarian tempura, shrimp tempera and two others I can't remember. I used to go to Shoga all the time before they moved next door. Niku Udon had been my favorite, but it totally changed since they moved. Beef is tough and soup is super salty...
