I ate here with my wife and son, I had the fillet my wife had the teriyaki chicken and my son had the steak and chicken combo. I hate to say it, but the service was a little below what I'm used to at a Teppanyaki restaurant. Generally, you have somebody dedicated to your table kind of hovering around and seeing if they can get you anything. Here we waited a long time to get drink refills etc. The food was less flavorful than what I am used to at this type of restaurant too. The main problem is they do not use garlic butter. It's amazing what this does to the flavor profiles of all the food from the fried rice to the chicken to the steak to the vegetables. The chef was nice but was throwing shrimp around that had butter on it and got on many of our clothes... The atmosphere was completely normal for a place like this, perhaps a little more cramped than normal. People sitting around talking and enjoying watching the chefs prepare the food.... I have not tried the other big Japanese place, will be interesting to compare.... read more

Amazing food and service. I got the salmon teriyaki lunch which came with rice, veggies and my choice of soup or salad. My favorite part had to be the soup, it was so good! This was my first time going to a hibachi style restaurant and I really enjoyed it. I'm sure the chefs have been doing this for years, yet they didn't seem tired of it at all. I enjoyed the food and experience, and I would recommend this to anyone who's looking for a Japanese restaurant and a good time. read more

I love shogun. I with they were open more hours/days. Also since they are the only hibachi/teppanyaki restaurant in racine, they are slightly over-priced compared to milwaukee. However the chefs here use more seasoning on the food than other hibachi restaurants I've been too and the food is very high quality. read more

We went on Mother's Day, of course the place was packed when it opened at 4:30pm. We had a birthday to celebrate also. 3 school age children who were really looking forward to the Japanese chef doing their tricks at the grill. Our chef introduced himself as Johnny and proceeded to appear very hurried. Telling our table' no tricks today In a hurry very busy today. Come back tomorrow". The 3 kids felt cheated and we couldn't relax. Our BIrthday celebration was hurried. Birthday song sung so fast and in the middle of the room not at our table. I hadn't been to Shogun's in over 20 years. What a disappointing decline in service. Our steak was tough. Don't think I'll go back. Oh, but they tacked on a 20% gratuity fee automatically. read more

If you're in a hurry don't bother eating here as the service is a bit slow. Our waiter was name Gong and he was on top of everything in the beginning then he totally forgot our table towards the end. We were left alone for quite a bit that we had to flag another waiter to get us our bill. Then some guest at our table went around the restaurant to get to go box for our table. We also had a guest who was celebrating their birthday and when they were leaving that's when our waiter came back with other staff members to sing her happy birthday. This was a total mess. Loved the quiet feel of tranquility as you walk into the restaurant. The staff were helpful, quick, and most staff listened to your requests. Not impressed with my food, Hibachi Steak was supposed to be medium rare, it was almost medium well. There was a sauce that all over my salad that tasted like I was eating vomit on top. We went for Rockford Restaurant Week and got an amazing deal on the dinner. We got a teppanyaki show and dinner included, filet mignon, lobster, chicken, rice, and vegetables. We also ordered some sashimi and a couple rolls. The sashimi was fresh and melted right in my mouth. All were delicious. Our server was lovely and so was our chef on the grill. It was a busy night but all the workers were so attentive. Beautiful waterfall right when you walk in and plenty of seating. read more

Came here with some friends to celebrate a birthday. First time here! First of all, the restaurant is massive. When you first walk in you're greeted by this beautiful little pond/stream and a cute little bridge on the left. Absolutely loved the decor. Service was a little slow. It was a Wednesday so maybe they just didn't have as many workers and restaurant was busier than expected, but once our order was in the food came out promptly. Got two sushi rolls. The spider roll was ok, but the scallop and eel roll was great! Definitely recommend that one. For dinner I was thinking of the ramen, but instead just went with some hibachi steak. Ginger salad dressing was so so good. Miso soup was solid. Fried rice, steak, and veggies were all good. I've never been to a hibachi restaurant that gives you some udon too so that was cool! Dessert we ended with some mochi ice cream. Mango mochi is what I got and I liked it. Was a solid time! read more

Great place to eat! If you've been to a hibachi grill restaurant before, you kinda know what to expect: you get a chef assigned to your table to cook everything in front of you. It's a treat for the eyes in addition to the taste buds. Delicious food and good drinks. The atmosphere is also fun, they have a lot of neat details like a working water wheel, and if you don't want to sit at the grill side, they do offer regular restaurant seating in addition to a modern bar. They also offer takeout. It's a little pricy so we don't come here often, but when we're craving some special food, this is a great place to go! read more

My wife brought me here for our anniversary and I have never had it before! I can't believe that I've never ate there, it is so good! Prices were very reasonable as well. We shared the meal for two and they gave us so much good. We had leftovers for at least two more meals. So good! I would love to go with a group sometime. went during happy hours where certain dishes were 6$. the pulled pork burger was kinda small but extremely good. the nestled fries were thinner than i thought but was still good regardless. the sauce served with the fries saved the dish. also got the wings which were big and tasty as well. our server had to take care of the whole bar and my table so she was pretty busy but was able to take care of us when she was available. overall was a good experience for my third time here. read more

Today a friend and I ate at Shogun for lunch. My family is a big fan of Japanese cuisine so we eat there more than other sit down restaurants. The meal today was probably the worst overall meal that I have ever had anywhere. We both ordered the shrimp and steak combination. The salad was delicious as usual. We both ordered the friend rice at a 3.50 per person up charge. The chef put three small eggs scrambled up into six large bowls of rice with soy sauce in front of us. The rice was very salty and had a slight taste of soy sauce and definitely wasn't worth 3.50. The shrimp was the worst part of meal and neither of us could eat them. The shrimp had an off taste. I thought they tasted very fishy. My friend thought they had a medicinal taste. Either way they tasted awful. The steaks had been ordered medium rare and were given to us as well done and tough to eat. The vegetables which are usually one of my favorite parts of meal were so salty that we couldn't finish them. All included in this review makes it one of the worst meals I have eaten. I think next time I go to JMK NIppon our local Japanese Restaurant. read more
