Stopped into Shogun Japanese Vietnamese and on a cold day nothing hits quite like a hot bowl of pho. I started with the summer rolls and they were basic. The shrimp was fresh and I appreciated getting peanut sauce for dipping instead of the usual Thai chili sauce. Now the pho. The beef broth was absolutely delicious. It was rich clean and full of flavor. The meats were great quality as well and tender instead of the tough chewy cuts I have had at other places. They were out of Thai basil but I understand it can be difficult to get in this area. The broth alone made up for it and that is what truly matters in a good pho. Overall it was a very enjoyable meal and the husband and wife team were so kind and personable. Thank you and I look forward to returning again soon. read more

New owners !!!!! Restaurant has been remodeled and was very clean when we were there. The menu is extensive and the Pho was yummy - best I've had in quite some time. The service was great and everything was very fresh. they even explained that it may take a little longer because they cook everything to order. Very pleasant people - give it a try - it's NOTHING alike it was before, only the name is the same. They have revamped the Hibachi table cooking stations also and we can't wait to try that too. Decent place, good amount of food, fair price. Beware, inconsistency in times from lunch to dinner. People are friendly enough, even if not very professional. Hostess chewing gum in front us (even spit some out by accident while talking with us). Not very pleasant. We went a little after 1 and were surprised to be given a dinner menu. We were thinking to leave and go down the street for lunch buffet, but they told us they would offer the special lunch price. It clearly used to be served until 2. After settling THAT, we came upon some other things that had changed since we'd been there last, but the owner tried to be accommodating. In the end, we had a lot of yummy food from a friendly chef for a decent price. 3 stars because of the unorganized and inconsistent schedule and the unprofessional hostess/waitress. read more

This place beats Miyami big time. We are so surprised this place isn't as busy. Don't let the exterior fool you. Sometimes the best places are hard to find. They've been open for over 8 years so they know what they are doing. The flavors are great and the service was prompt and efficient. The portions are humongous! I have enough for lunch the next day. I can see why they give you a split option that cost something like $7 more which makes sense because the second person still gets soup and salad. The meat portions are great quality as well. Decided to try Shogun... boy was it a mistake. I left feeling that Harris Teeter style sushi would have been more appetizing and better than what we had ordered. First impression walking in was that it was more of a family daycare spot than a restaurant. There were lots of children (assuming they were all family of the staff/owners) hanging out watching TV and sitting at the bar, while the adults lounged at the hibachi grill on their laptops. After walking in, we weren't noticed by any of the staff to be seated, until a few minutes later and we were seated across the bar. About a quarter of the sushi menu was no longer being served, so that left what was left pretty limited. The bar wasn't actually where the sushi is made or where you can see the chef make your sushi, it was more for lounging/drinks. The atmosphere is very dark/stuffy, and it looked like they haven't been getting much customers lately. We were waited by a friendly server who was nice and was able give us a great service. It was our first time, so when it came time to order I didn't go crazy ordering a bunch of Sushi (like I normally would) but we proceeded with caution and just ordered a spicy salmon roll and crispy salmon skin roll, and 2 orders of the saba sushi (4 pieces total). The order took about half hour or so to get to us. Well.... when the order did come to our table, oh man... let's just say that it looked very disappointing and not hardly what I had in mind when it comes to rolls of sushi. I would say the way they had cut the sushi rolls were maybe half of a normal sushi roll would be. It looked like about a quarter inch pieces. The rice was unappetizing and definitely not the way sushi rice is meant to be made, no seasoning at all like rice wine. The salmon in the rolls were not that fresh pink color you normally see salmon to be, but a very dull orange with a somewhat rubbery texture. The crispy skin salmon roll didn't fair well either, I hardly saw any crispy skin on those roll pieces, it looked like they just deep fried slithers of salmon meat and crisped it up and threw it in a roll. My girlfriend actually had to actually dip them in their special "yummy" style sauce to make them edible - I don't blame her, we usually stay away from any sauce that would hinder the taste of sushi, but dang... the yummy sauce on this one helped us get through eating the rest of the rolls. I've eaten at other "Shoguns" before and the one where I grew up had a fantastic Shogun/Hibachi restaurant that had eaten at regularly, this one doesn't even compare or come close to it, what a shame. You might say, why eat the rest or why did you pay for something that was not appetizing? It's because I'd hate to see us waste food and with such little portions, we didn't mind eating it up for mistakenly picking out this place to try this evening. Right before we had finished eating and just when the children were leaving the restaurant, I noticed that our server was checking the tempature of one of the kids and overheard her asking one of the adults to make the kids drink lots of water and to check temperatures again. This made my girlfriend and I a bit concerned as well as didn't want to catch anything, especially when it was also our server who we heard coughing and checking the kid's temperature. I highly NOT recommend you try eating at Shogun and save your money and go somewhere else where you can have real sushi/Japanese steak house experience. read more

I eat at Shogun's as many times as I can. I had lunch there last week, and I couldn't eat but about half my food because I had so much, and I saved the rest for later. I love their food. I always get chicken and shrimp. I don't know what I would do if anything happened to this place. It my favorite place to eat Japanese. All the other places fall short in my opinion, and yes, I have had Tokyo's​ in Dillon, and Miyomis in MB. Neither hold a candle to Shogun's. read more

Taste food is decent with sufficient quantities. Building is small and inside looks a bit run down and not the most sanitary in the world. Waitress/owner is friendly but not very professional. Pricing is a bit shady. Party of three got there before 2 pm, which is apparently when their dinner starts. By the time we were done it was a little after 2 and we were charged dinner prices and an adult meal for a child when we specifically asked for lunch and a kids meal. Waitress/owner swore that we told her to give him an adult meal. We certainly did NOT (he is non verbal autistic who eats like a bird). She actually argued with us and refused to compromise. They don't seem to get a ton of business so I guess she was squeezing every penny out of each guest that she could. That is NOT the way to get business. We will not be back. read more

Been going here for my birthday for years, classic Japanese hibachi with great chefs, wish David was still there

We walked in for the hibachi lunch special and they say sat us at a nnormal table. We are like no we want hibachi as in the table where they cook in front of you. So they sat us around the table where they cook in front of you then. We were the only customers in the restaurant and the waitress seemed clueless. She kept getting our drink orders wrong, mind you its just the 3 of us. The soup was peppery. The steak and chicken and shrimp were good quality and portions, but there was not enough seasoning on them at all. So bland. The white sauce tasted more like thousand island dressing than actual authentic sauce. I had to take my food home and resaute it in my own terriaki and soy before I could eat any leftovers. Food portions make it worth the 10.99 lunch price, but the taste of it and service was severely disappointing. read more

I travel often work and have visited many ShoGun establishments. I love love your food until I visited your Florence SC establishment (dump). What a disgrace to the ShoGun name.... .The bootleg menu had lunch special for 17.99 I ordered it, shrimp, steak chicken with soup or salad ( unusual) with a coke.. When the Chef was frying the rice I asked where is the onion? He said they only use onion on dinners if I wanted onion in rice would be extra $3.50 (that's ridiculous) ... of course I said that's ok. Another lady with 2 young men sat at table cashier/greeter sat at table next to us with toddler in lap. The Chef cooked their rice the same way (steamed rice with lots of soy sauce frozen carrots and a few broccoli crowns) cooked stake served the woman and young men then turned to employee and served them some of the stake ( how unprofessional) When I went to cash register to pay I was billed $26.02 total which I paid. When I got outside my friend advised me they charged her $5.00 for tap water (not bottled water). Anyone visiting this establishment is not getting real ShoGun value and they should not be able to shame/disgrace the ShoGun name for their greed.. read more

I used to go to Shogun for lunch at least a few times a year. I haven't been in a few years so I took my mother there on Saturday for lunch. It was empty so we had our pick of tables. We sat at the grill so we could have the experience of watching our food cook, as we have always in the past. They only offered a dinner menu and the cheapest thing on the menu was $17.95. I don't have a problem with spending money however they used to have a lunch menu that was priced a lot lower and it had a decent variety on it. This did not. We both ended up ordering the Shrimp and Scallops. The grill cook came out and as in the past, I tried to have a conversation with him. That is part of the experience. Well he acted like we were a bother and he didn't want to be there. He started with the rice. He loaded our plates up with rice and a few minutes later he worked on the vegetables. It was all onions with one piece of broccoli a couple of mushrooms and some carrot slices. I guess it wouldn't have been so bad but he dropped half of it on the table so I wasn't able to taste most of it. The Scallops were very small and I couldn't even cut them with a fork. There were four and the Shrimp were medium size, at best. There were 5. I have eaten up and down the eastern seaboard and I know what a meal is worth and there was no way that meal was worth $50.00. They also charged my mother for her glass of tap water. They were already making a killing on the entree's but they just weren't satisfied with that. I will never go back there. read more
