Went for lunch after our visit to Hartsville. My son had spring rolls and the sesame chicken plate. He really enjoyed his food. My husband and I had Japanese lunch boxes. He had the teriyaki chicken while I had the tempura vegetables. The teriyaki shrimp had 5 small shrimps. My husband said the sauce was good but for the price, it was really not worth it. The tempura vegetables were ok. There was no dipping sauce. The breading on some of the vegetables were greasy and grainy. Service was quick. The interior was fine. I've eaten a lot of Chinese food and this meal gave me two firsts. First time I ordered chicken fried rice and the chicken was so small and white I thought it was all onions. I swear it was tiny pieces of chicken fat not chicken. To boot it was a $2 up charge for "chicken" fried rice. The first time I've ever had sweet and sour sauce with absolutely zero flavor of any kind. Essentially colored water because it had no thickness at all. The chicken pieces were tasty enough but without sauce it was fried chicken pieces, not sweet and sour chicken. Three reasons why I won't eat here again: 1 -- I ordered Chicken with Cashews and they substituted peanuts for the cashews. Cashew is literally in the name! I do not like peanuts unless it's in peanut butter format. If you are out of cashews or too cheap to use cashews, let the customer know so they can order something else. It's not a suitable substitute. The rest of it was good, but peanuts instead of cashews completely changed the flavor (not in a good way) and kind of ruined the whole thing for me. I will be roasting my own cashews to put in the rest. 2 -- I ordered brown rice instead of white. They brought our food out and said the brown rice would be right out. I had eaten almost half of my plate before it arrived. I ate only a couple of bites of rice before I was ready for a box. 3 -- The waitress approached our table when we sat down and began speaking in another language while standing there. It took a bit to realize that she was talking on her phone via Bluetooth. She stopped long enough to ask us what we wanted to drink and then resumed her phone conversation. It was very rude. The owner of the restaurant seems very nice, but the peanut substitution alone without mentioning it was enough to make me not want to go back. read more

Golden Dragon is our Christmas Eve tradition. For 2020, we opted to do takeout, but that's all the restaurant offers now due to COVID-19. It looks like the dining area is being remodeled, too. We called in an order, which was ready in the quoted time, and all staff members wore masks. My husband loves the wings, which he always orders, but he also had the Mongolian beef and a hot and sour soup. He said the soup tasted different than when we lived in the area, and I'm not sure he'll order quarts to take home anymore. That's not a big deal because it gives us a chance to try something different next time. My moo shu shrimp was delicious yet again. Lots of shrimp, enough pancakes, and tasty hoisin sauce to top it with made for a wonderful Christmas Eve meal. We got a lot of food for $28, so Golden Dragon is the place to feed a family or couple on a budget in Hartsville. Hopefully when we return next year, we can dine in the updated dining area. read more

Fried rice un-etable, white sauce was like water, ran off food so fast, I don't know if it was good or not? Veggies taste like they came out of a can. The restaurant was close to closing and although our waiter didn't really want us to dine in, (suggested carry out) he went ahead and allowed us to dine-in but reminded us they would be closing very soon. We had been in our hotel most the day/evening and really wanted to dine-in, somewhere...we tried Sam Kendall's but they shut kitchen early bc they said it was a slow evening for them. The male waiter/staff was soo kind and I could totally understand how he felt..after a long day when it's time to get off/close, you wanna do just that! Overall the service was great, very fast and attentive while he was cleaning tables, mopping etc. preparing for restaurant closing. We're from out of town and not familiar with restaurants closing by 9:30...as did most the town. The food was overall yummy/filling as a "late night" meal grab. The steamed beef dumplings were very tasty. The spring rolls were hot and crisp, yummy. From the outside it is unassuming and one would almost bypass it if you didn't look twice. Upon entering the restaurant it is still without flair or lots of decoration but the dining room is a step up and offers a feel of blue collar Asian decoration. The food however is the star. I ate lunch and had General Tso's chicken and the dish did not dissapoint. Flavor was better than most Chinese establishments and quantity and cost were more than reasonable. So back on May 14, 2016 my boyfriend and I ate here and the food tasted decent. After we had eaten most of it he found a bug in his food. We informed the waitress who had been nice through the whole experience and she told the owner. He only offered a 30% discount and when we told him we weren't paying for it he threatened to call the cops! After they yelled at us for several minutes we finally left. I left a review on their facebook on May 14th and said basically the same thing as this review. Last night one of their waitresses messaged my facebook profile and told me that next time I "ran my ignorant mouth" about bugs in their restaurant, police would be called because it was called slander and was illegal. A very unassuming place but wow. The service is excellent, the sushi rolls are great. I had the 'Spicy Girl' and the 'Sweet Heart Roll'. Wonderful. I would have marked it five stars if the tap water wasn't so horrible. Drink anything from a bottle or can are you're good to go. Tip. Get a filtration system, clean the filters or provide carbonated water. This still wouldn't stop me returning though. p.s. The green tea is made with leaves - not tea bags. A big plus. My family and I traveling through town on our way to Florida. Hurricane Dorian was in affect and after six hours of driving through horizontal rain, we decided to stay at a nearby hotel. As we began unpacking, we heard a loud transformer blow-up across the street. Our hotel lost power and come to find out, the whole town had lost power. Things could not get any worse. Needless to say, we were craving for a simple Chinese take out and Golden Dragon II came up and it was walking distance. As we arrived at the restaurant on foot, we did not know what we were getting ourselves into. From the outside, it didn't look busy, looked like it didn't belong in this part of town, bugs annoying our ears, just didn't get the right vibes.... Inside, the air was hot and muggy, absolutely no lighting and air circulation whatsoever, credit card machine was down.. that's right, even Golden Dragon II was affected by the power outage. It felt more comfortable standing outside in the 84 degrees temperature outside with 100% humidity. The owner greeted us and immediately apologized for the temperature and power outage and advised us that they were not allowing patrons to dine-in at this time. However, they could do a take-out order but their credit card swipe machine was down. We still placed an order because it was the only Chinese take-out in town and we were just dead tired from the day. We ordered our family usual: fried rice, fried wings, and beef lo-mein noodles. As we placed our order, we could see the lights were down in the kitchen and you could feel the hot air just sourcing from the kitchen into the main lobby. We started wondering how they were going to make our food. The owner steps out, drives his 4Runner up to the front of the store, runs a power inverter with large power lines straight into the kitchen. I looked at my husband with a lost look.. and he said "I'm hungry." 15 minutes later, yes that's right - 15 MINUTES LATER! Talk about fast cooking! We got our order and were able to pay with our credit card! We took it back to the room and oh my goodness: The fried chicken was perfectly crisp, the beef lo-mein was flavorful, the noodles were perfectly al-dente, and the fried rice accompanied the fried wings just right! It was just SO GOOD! Turns out the owner, retrieved electrical powers from his 4Runner to do his cooking for us!!!! WHAT! Talk about going above and beyond and in 15 minutes, he got it DONE! And it was GOOD! And if turned out that good on a day with a ghetto rigged kitchen running power from a Toyota 4Runner?? We can only imagine what the owner is capable of with a fully fledged power working kitchen. Thank you for an awesome dinner!! TLDR: Power was out, owner retrieve power from his 4Runner, cooked up our full take-out order, and even got the credit card machines to work. FOOD was AWESOME! UNBELIEVABLE Service! read more

Dalton is really what makes this place great! He remembers your order, and is always suggesting new things that you would like based on what you've liked in the past. We eat here more often than we should simply because of Dalton. When you are being served by someone else, service is awful around here. Drinks go unfilled, silverware is forgotten, the check can take forever to finally get to you, and you want a to-go box? Forget about it, even in an empty restaurant.
