Legends Duo - Terrible and flavorless. Overcooked and chewy
Adeline K.

Heard good things about this place from many people and decided to order for the first time. I got the Legends Duo for $36 - filet mignon and scallops in brown butter sauce with vegetables. I asked for the filet to be cooked medium rare. It came out medium well and chewy. Did not taste good at all. The scallops had absolutely NO flavor. I've never had such disappointing scallops in my life. My hospital cafeteria makes better ones. Staff was nice when I picked up my food. That was the only good part of this experience. You're better off at your local strip mall Chinese spot. At least it's not a rip off.

The rolls never disappoint! But skip the kimchi...colorless and unpalatable. Shoutout to Leny who was an attentive and amazing server!

The Best Sashimi of The Day (sashimi chef's recommendation only)

Fresh Devine pairing with chilled sake or Chardonnay; very good service with comfortable ambiance. Everything and everybody are in harmony:)

I want to like this for more than I do. The sashimi is not the right temp and not cut well. The grain is not correct so the fish is chewy and when served too cold you can't distinguish one fish from the next. The calamari appetizer was lovely though. Dont come here expecting great Sushi.

The sushi here is good, but for the price I feel like it could be better. You come to shogun for the atmosphere. Service here is average.

Soon as we walked in, initially saw people waiting to be seated, but were seated immediately…read more Atmosphere is spacious but Japanese inspired: paper lanterns, geometric fabrics, possibly some feng shui? Moving onto the actual service, waitress took the alcohol order at the same time as the food order; Boyfriend who used to work in high end food service said it's usually a bad sign. Was proven wrong, thankfully. Ordered the Yuzu drop, thought it would be more punchy but it was on point for yuzu. He got the eel dragon and firecracker rolls, I chose the bluefin tuna and salmon nigiri (with one unagi/eel, which I hated) We absolutely devoured our food, which is why there are no pictures attached to the review. The salmon was so buttery smooth, and the tuna was so meaty and flavorful, I ordered an extra helping as sashimi! IT IS THAT GOOD! Besides the banging baby at the other table (not the restaurant's fault) it was one of the best walk-in experiences I've had to date! Will definitely recommend and repeat visit!

Taka is located on the corner of a busy street in Asbury Park and is deceptively huge restaurant…read more Lovely calming interior colors (wood and red tones) with simply appointed decor and intimate lighting. The sushi is fresh and tasty, we enjoyed the seared scallop appetizer. My sushi (Tiger roll) was magnificent. The Yuzu lobster roll could have had a bit less rice in the roll but was otherwise very enjoyable. The combination of fish in this roll paired very nicely together. Taka has a vast menu with many options from appetizers to specialty sushi options. They provide alcoholic and non alcoholic mocktails for those of us not interested in consuming liquor.....the mocktails are fantastic. The only thing that made me rate 4 instead of 5 stars was the staff needs a bit of work on serving. We ordered an appetizer and were also given two additional small plates since we were sharing this item. When we were done with the appetizer our specialty sushi plates were bought out and the same server left the three empty plates from the appetizers on the table instead of removing them. Dessert was absolutely decadent and moist (I omitted the whipped cream since I don't like it) but the shortcake was perfect without it. I look forward to returning to Taka and trying more items on the menu.

Our latest…read morevisit was on a Sunday at the end of April as ten of us women celebrate the "End of Winter" each year, and we like to be near the coast and boardwalk even though we're from all parts of New Jersey. Xina is very special and has become our go-to for this annual event. For those who prefer hot entrees, their menu is creative and abundant, and everything is fresh as can be. I saw the salmon marinated in miso and served with black coconut sticky rice entree that looked incredibly enticing, and I heard that it was beyond delicious. For those of us who can't wait to savor their sushi and sashimi offerings, we wait all year for the freshest and the best! A few of us don't order the standard tuna, yellowtail, and salmon... we go for what's less of an American's choice, and this time around we SAVORED (amongst other things) the sweet shrimp (amaebi) which are cold-water northern prawns with a delicate, sweet flavor and creamy texture. Most people don't even know. The extra delight is that the top half/delicate shell and head of each shrimp is lightly deep fried and presented alongside the shrimp - a delicious accompaniment with a bit of umami flavor. Xina is the ruler against which I measure the goodness of every other sushi bar I visit during the year. The Best.

I keep coming back to MOGO on Cookmam, one of my go-to spots in Asbury right now!…read more Food-wise, the pork burrito is my staple, especially with the veggie fried rice mixed in, it adds this perfect texture and makes the whole thing feel extra satisfying. The flavors are bold, well-seasoned, and consistent every time. The buldok cheesesteak is also a standout sandwich, spicy and cheesy. Don't skip the pickle bar either! The pickled cucumbers and spicy pear sauce are my favorites and honestly elevate everything. Bonus points for the strawberry lychee drink, which is super refreshing. Service is always friendly and easygoing, and even after 20+ visits over the past six months, it still feels welcoming. They also do a great job keeping things interesting, there's always something new or a collab popping up, which keeps me curious enough to try different items. This spot is perfect if you're into bold, Korean-inspired street food and like having some room to customize your order. If you're new, try a couple things before locking in your favorite, but trust me, you'll find one.
