We just paid over $500 for dinner for 9 people. The waitress only brought out 8 dinners & forgot my dinner. The waitress said she forgot. The manager comes over and lies to me & said the cooking procedure could not prepare that many sea base dinners all at once. Its never the mistake but the cover up that was so offensive. I hate being lied to. Then, I watched 8 other family members eat their dinner & the manager still charges me. I am glad he did charge me. I am glad he lied to me. I am glad he & his waitress ruined our evening out. I will now boycott this restaurant as will all 9 members of my party. My revenge will be to tell everyone I know to never eat at this restaurant. First time here, although I've passed by it many times. Decided to give it a try and I was super impressed! The layout of the entire space is very interesting, with a raised bar, beautiful massive fish tank, busy sushi bar and lots of different spaces to dine, including a private dining area. The sushi was outstanding. Everything was fresh, delicious and artfully presented. The yellowtail sashimi melted in your mouth, the eel, spicy tuna sushi were perfect. The Godzilla roll was amazing and a very good value for for the price. My only regret is that I waited so long before ever trying this place. I've missed out all these years. I went to eat at the bar here on a recommendation. I was told they had great sushi and a social scene. Got to the bar where I met my friend, bartenders behind the bar, built gym rat looking guys, Who ran around like they were busy with hardly any crowd seated. It took a while for one to even look me in the eye and asked me if I'd like anything. I ordered a martini, extra dirty ketel 1 vodka, and told him that I would pay cash so that my friend didn't have to pay for half my drinking. It was like we had to beg him to come take our order?! My friend ordered a small salad and a couple sushi rolls, I ordered a Salad and soon after was told that they didn't have it. Her salad never came and when she questioned it the waiter actually said "do you want it?". We waited for some time for our bill, finally asked for it by saying was in sure if we'd actually have to pay?! The bartenders response to me was "well, you dont...but then you'll go to jail, we all make choices". I found the food lack luster, the service even more lackluster and the atmosphere a big meh. As for the food, we ordered simple things such as hibachi steak a chicken the chef was adding butter to everything on an obnoxious level. We walked in around 3:30 PM on Sunday and took a good look around and seeing things like empty plastic silverware bin laying on the floor near the bar as well as linens stacked haphazard on one of the bar seats - not good. Then I put my hand on the front of the bar only to be greeted by some sticky substance that required a trip to the men's room to wash off, which was another story. The finish is peeling off the bar and in general the place looks like it has been neglected in recent years. Not wishing to pay their high prices for mediocrity we just walked out of the place. Let first say, it is a very impressive place to go, wether it be for a date or a business lunch or dinner. As I entered the impressive double heavy doors, I am at awe at how grand the place looks. Passing by the place where the host brings you to your table, I noticed a sign stating the dress code should be causal dressy - no jeans preferred. Okay, we crack opened our menus and we ordered. One of my girlfriends just had surgery and so she asked for the chicken soon but no brown sauce. The waitress then told her it was an appetizer and if there is no brown sauce, its tasteless. My friend said, that's fine. You should've heard the huff the waitress let out. My other friend ordered two rolls: boston roll and the banzai roll. I ordered my standard sashimi lunch special because I just love sashimi and was grateful they didn't say "hibachi". Nothing wrong with it but it's just not my cup of tea. My lunch comes with a salad. I offered it to my girlfriend who only had an appetizer. I figured she's going to be hungry and I was fine. Next came the eye roll from the waitress when I did this. I could tell she was holding her tongue when I did this. Gut feeling she wanted to say, "hey, no sharing. That is yours!" My miso soup came and must admit, it was tasty. Finally all our meals came. Now mine comes with white rice. Nowhere was it in sight. I didn't ask for it because none of us like rice. The chicken soon was served in two different platters. The waitress said it comes that way. My friend then said, "don't take away my salad. I'll just add the lettuce wraps onto that salad plate." More eye rolling from the waitress. As we are eating we are still talking from everything under the sun. Not once did she or anyone ask us how the food was or do we need anything. Yet the guy at the next table who was obviously working on his lunch in a very nice suit was repeatedly asked those questions with each sushi roll dish that came out. As we finish eating, my other friend asks for a coke. The soda was maybe a quarter of the cup and the rest was filled with ice. After the soda was ordered and placed down, we ask for dessert. Ice cream tempura with three spoons. Nice presentation on all counts but the tempura was well... ewwwww. You could tell they didn't fry it enough. Again, they didn't ask us how it was or anything. The ambiance and decor is excellent. The bathrooms are dark with very little light. I can't say they want to make it romantic in there but lets just say, you need to not be frightened of it being dimly lit. Our waitress was not the nicest. Yet she was very nice to the guy who ordered like crazy at the next table. Food was meh. Too bad because I spied Peking Duck on the menu for $50 and so wanted to go to get it with my hubby. After this, I don't think so. All in all, it was an okay experience. I can only sum it up to: if you look the part, they will treat nicely. Order expensive and a lot and they will be sure to be nicer to you. Go there for just a get together dressed casual dressy... go find yourself another place. Disappointed. Went there for dinner on a Thursday night with gf and the kids. I have been there before and the food was pretty good. My daughter ordered the filet, son orders the volcano steak, gf ordered sushi and I ordered 24 oz ribeye. The food came on time and everything looked good. My ribeye was a little to be desired. I know you can't compare this with Sparks or Mortons but I do expect some salt and pepper. I thought it was my tastebuds but I let my gf tried too and she said it needed seasoning. I told my server and she took it back. The steak came back and it looked like the cool just put it back on the grill because it looked more charred. The steak tastes exactly the same as before going back to the kitchen and now a different temperature. The manager came over and I told him it was not good. Shogun Legends is my top choice in NJ for hibachi and sushi. Everything here sets a high standard for what to expect out of Japanese places that makes many others seem bland. The atmosphere is fairly stunning throughout the restaurant, definitely one of the nicest in the area. The hibachi here is great, but the sushi steals the show. There are a number of rolls that are all unique to each-other and most are expertly made up of many types of fish among other things. One of my favorite rolls is the "Two Thumbs Up" roll, though there's so much brilliantly put together in it that I couldn't list it all. All of the sushi is presented extremely well, and we have been served some gorgeous plates of fish that the chefs did an amazing job plating. The fish here is the freshest in the area. There are a lot of sushi rolls on the menu, which is great. Hibachi portions are generous and easily worth the higher-than-usual price. Hibachi is pretty close to its finest here. The appetizers from the kitchen are also worth mentioning because they're all great and uniquely presented. My recommendations would be the calamari and BBQ squid. Service is always great and generous (if you're a spender). The prices are a little higher than some other sushi places around, but the quality and the atmosphere are obviously what you're paying extra for. I have tried a lot of sushi places in NJ and Shogun Legends is my standard for sushi, the quality is unbeatable in NJ. read more

Our servers were knowledgeable about the menu and friendly, though I did find it a bit odd that they kept switching servers. And two of the appetizers we tried to order weren't available but in the end it was fine. From the moment you step through those extra large wooden doors (and then the etched glass doors) you are greeted warmly by all the hostesses. With reservations you are seated immediately even if your entire party isn't present which I find refreshing. Many pretentious restaurants make you wait. The gorgeous fish tank between the bar area and the main dinning area on the first floor (plus all the hidden lights and walkway lights) lends a beautiful glow to even the darkest corners. In another area there are large circular booth seats which accommodate a large party while remaining intimate. All of the servers have been top notch. We've kept to sushi so I can't attest to its quality but every roll we've tried has been delectable. My one complaint would be the drinks. There doesn't seem to be a variety on the drinks menu and after dinner we weren't offered a dessert menu, coffee, or after dinner drinks. I don't know if they just don't have any or our servers didn't think to ask us. All in all it's a great place, a bit pricey but here you get what you pay for: quality food and service. read more

I've been going to Legends for several years and after last night, feel like I owe them a review as a debt of gratitude for years of exceptional experiences. The best part of this place is that there is something for everyone. Not a sushi person? Plenty of seafood and land walking fare plus great gluten free options. The food is always prepared carefully and the service, from the minute you walk in, is outstanding. My wife and I like to sit at the bar because the bartenders are almost always really cool people to talk with. They're also famous for making great recommendations which helps us stray outside of our comfort zones carefully. The wine list is wide and we'll curated, the desserts are always spot on and the options when considering a whole floor for hibachi seem limitless.
