We had a bad experience! Our waitress was for the lack of a better word; dumb. She couldn't get our order right, she didn't understand the things that we ordered and didn't ask anyone. We asked for Wasabi and got ginger. They gave us the wrong shrimp (2 pieces) and they took them back after we told them it was wrong. That was pretty crazy and that really ruined their good customer service, aside from their clueless waitress. The food was okay. Their nigiri pieces were pretty big. Their prices are way too expensive for what they serve. Over $22 for a medium sized hibachi plate. Wished they could educate themselves on what good sushi is since they're the "best of racine". The service is pretty terrible here. The server we had didn't listen or write things down, so the wrong orders come out. Then, she took the incorrect order back to the kitchen...hello FDA violation? Octopus and Fatty tuna are rubbery. Tuna and Sake isn't bad. Wouldn't come back again. read more

Great fun for the kids, but don't be fooled as an adult. The quality of the food is not up to par with a classic Japanese steakhouse. The shrimp doesn't have tails, and the fish appears to have been frozen. Scallops are not actually scallops, but appear to be circular pieces of rake or Ray. The filet was tender and the calamari was prepared correctly. They don't serve the classic egg sauce with their seafood and the sauces are overly salty. Service was acceptable and our hibachi chef was entertaining and the kids enjoyed the experience. It is really, really, overpriced for the quality. read more

I enjoy this restaurant. The front door is a bit funny. Seems like it is full of warning signs or something. But, once seated inside you can expect a quality sushi and or teppanyaki style meal (iron grill in middle of table with talented chef to cook in front of you). The drinks are huge. I ordered a Long Island iced tea and had half. Lol The sushi is fresh and the choices are very traditional. I enjoy that I can order my favorite crunchy rolls and trust they will be made with tasty fresh ingredients in a quality, traditional recipe. The wait staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is more metropolitan and younger, or updated, than most places in Racine. Floor to ceiling windows and a loft-style exposed ceiling has a very modern appeal. Nice to feel like I don't have to leave Racine to have a reliable sushi experience. Very grateful for the flavorful, fresh sushi. Seaweed salad is also very nice. Lots of sesame seeds makes it yummy. Our orders are timely even when we have come in after large groups. Btw- I am amending this to say that I think the sushi is better on Friday night than it is earlier in the week. I had a fishy sushi experience when I went there with a friend. Funny thing is that is the second time I have gone to eat w/ him and the food was bad at a local place that usually is great. I don't know if he just has bad luck or what. read more

I'd say the only bad thing about Shogun is walking back out into Racine when you leave. The waiters are always extremely friendly and helpful and the chefs are all experienced, talented and entertaining. Sometimes the sushi orders can get backed up and can take a little while to get to your table, but it has always been worth the wait. They have some pretty interesting drinks that they usually have on special. They can be a little pricey but are very good. I've never had a bad experience at Shogun and would recommend it to anyone. It is a great place to take a large group of people, but make sure you get reservations if there are more than 3 or 4 people in your group. read more

a really nice Hibachi and sushi place! and its local for me. Hooray! They decor could always be a bit more up to date, but hey its Racine. Olive garden is Fine dining. My family went there and we had a pretty good time getting to know our hibachi cook as he was making our food and flipping our meat and veggies around with a large spatula spinning around. The $5 plate share charge is standard at these places, so I was good with that i suppose. I'd recommend this place if you've got the money to spend on a really fun eating experience or would like some nice sushi as well. read more

You know, I was really excited to eat here. That quickly changed. Now, I'm mentioning this because it matters,. .but..we had a Hispanic hibachi chef not a Japanese chef wich I've never seen before and...he had alot of facial hair, I mean A LOT of huge lumberjack beard type facial hair...thick, long black hair with no beard guard or facial hair net and was leaning over the grill cooking. Really gross!!! He also had the personality of a stale piece of bread and damn he was slow! Our food was actually like warm...seriously. I mean, how is that possible? Hibachi chefs are a big deal, they make or break your experience. The chef is EVERYTHING at a Hibachi restuarant. He was horrible. He barely spoke, did no tricks, did not have any techniques or showmanship. He looked bored, sleepy, annoyed and uncomfortable. In addition, our food was super fishy smelling and tasting which tells me its definitely not fresh ingredients. For what your paying, this felt like a waste of money. Terrible service, bad cold food, unsanitary conditions. So extremely disappointed. Will not be going back. Ever. read more

The food here is extraordinary. I love the sushi and the hibachi and now there is an expanded menu with tons of items and dessert! The only things I don't like about Shogun - the gongs for birthday celebrations are annoying. The wait staff is pretty inexperienced- the last three times I've been the waitress has never eaten sushi. Hmmm. The dessert items - ginger ice cream and mochi in green tea or red bean are great finishes for the meal. My husband LOVES the filet, lobster and garlic shrimp hibachi. We always share the Racine roll. We've taken the nieces before, but the meal can get too long for them. Also, they've added a big screen. It's fine when the volume is off - they play japanese movies, so it adds to the ambience, but if the volume is up it's too loud in the dining room. read more

Hibachi is good, the Tako Su is spectacular!! I really like the sushi bar as they have some of the more exotic types available like sea urchin. Cost is average for this type of establishment. read more

I want to like this place... I will say the food is good, the sushi plates were very small. This is an old business and little has gone into updating it. The floors are very sticky wherever you would walk. We booked a reservation for a group and some of our party was running 5 mins late. We had two pregnant women in the party and they were ready to eat. We were told by the servers that they would wait for the rest of our party... , that ended up showing exactly at 7:05. We overheard the waitress giving away our table despite the promise to hold. We ended up having to wait another hour. When we confronted the service, we received a lot of attitude back with no apologies. After speaking to the manager regarding our service, they made the servers say an apology... it was very half hearted. They forgot orders even after repeating it several times. Good food if you end up getting it... terrible service the could times I've been. I want to like this place and had given it a shot many times. Dropping $100+ on food and drinks, I would expect much better service. I don't think I'll be back, it's not worth the attitude and service for what you pay for. read more

The sushi here was less than satisfactory with the rice being superabound as opposed to the less than appropriate amount of actual fish. On top of the slipshod rolls the waitress did a poor job waiting on our table. We were the only people in the establishment so the waitress had no excuses for her lackluster performance. read more

We started our evening out in great spirits looking forward to a fun Hibachi experience. Unfortunately poor customer service ruined the evening. When ordering we alerted the staff that several in our party are allergic to shrimp. They assured us that they would take great care to cook the seafood separately and that the request is quite common. The allergy sufferers ordered Filet Mignon, veggies, and sea bass. Others ordered combos which included shrimp and scallops. On with the show. The chef went through all of the Hibachi favorites... showing off his knife skills, flicking veggies into each guests mouth, onion volcano, spinning eggs and more. The soup, salad, fried rice and filet were flavorful and perfectly cooked. The chef then moved on to the shrimp and scallops. He then proceeded to cook the Sea Bass mistakenly with the same utensils as the shrimp. We pointed out his error. He apologized and flagged down another staff member to ask for a replacement fish. We were fine with his handling of the error to this point. However as time passed no replacement fish appeared and everyone in our party had finished their meals. We were done and ready to move on without the fish. When I expressed to the server that too much time had passed and asked for the meal to be canceled she responded that they can't cancel the meal and was not apologetic at all. I would have been OK if they simply discounted the meal. However a few minutes latter the server appeared with the fish expecting that it be eaten as the others in the party ready to settle up stared on. She was hostile in her tone turning a simple error into a terrible experience. While they did not in the end charge for the meal, they handled the situation so poorly that I'm sure no one in our group will ever go back to Shogun again. read more

The food here has been reliably good when I've gone. Their shrimp habachi is always cooked well, but the portions for shrimp can sometimes be too small. They do, however, give you a big bowl of fried rice, which is delicious. Salad and miso soup are mediocre. It's not the best sushi I've ever had, but it definitely satisfies my sushi craving, especially when I do not want to travel very far from home. I find it to be a good deal only during lunch specials, otherwise it's a little overpriced. Service can be hit or miss, but most of the waitresses are friendly. read more

The sushi was very good. There's one other restaurant I prefer but this place was very good. My friend and I had sushi, my other friend had New York strip and rice. She ordered the steak well done and I thought oh no, but they did not kill the steak it was perfect and not dry. The rice was so flavorful and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. Prices are what I would expect in a sushi restaurant. Figure $35 to $40 per person that's including a drink and the tax. The service and attention was great. We came in early and there was no one else around. After about 45 minutes the place got busy and our server was great at juggling all of us. I go to Shogun quite often with co-workers and my SO. The service is always pretty good, although we did have a few staff members learning the ropes who could turn off the newcomers. The sushi and hibachi are great, it's quite expensive in my opinion during the evenings, but reasonable during lunch. The sushi is always good and prices are fair. It is not the best sushi in the area (Soon's cafe is), but the atmosphere is better than most other places. I recommend the firecracker and captain spicy sushi to all my friends who like spicy food. For hibachi I enjoy the spicy garlic shrimp, they use a garlic stuffing that spoon over the shrimp. Excellent all around. read more
