First of all they were slammed. They just started a new all day happy hour and boy it was busy. We sat at the bar, and Edwin the sushi chef was slammed, he was down two chefs and still made sure to go above and beyond with his skill and care. At one point his entire window or service platform was entirely filled with rolls and the servers couldnt keep up with him! All the Sushi he made was exceptional. My family and I came to Shogun Restaurant for New Year's Day dinner. We were hoping to set the hibachi dinner, but they were full and we didn't think about making a reservation for the hibachi. We ended up staying and just ordering off their menu. We did order the hibachi meals and honchos basically the same food minus the show. Food (3/5 stars): - Hibachi New York Steak: nothing special, asked for medium steak, served nearly well done steak. Comes with miso soup, salad, grilled veggies, yakisoba and steamed rice - Hibachi Teriyaki Chicken: nothing special, comes with same starters and sides as the New York Steak above. - Shogun Roll: very tasty, probably the best thing I ate here. - Baked Mussels: flavorful, good appetizer if you like mussels. They have an extensive menu, soy may be difficult to make your meal choice. They have a Happy Hour Food and Drinks Menu (available everyday from 3pm-Close) with $4, $6 and $9 items. Service (3.5 stars): Hibachi was not available without reservation, but my fault for not thinking I would need a reservation on New Years Day. Waiter was pretty attentive, but I knock off a star for error on my bill (was charged full price for the baked muscles $13 vs the $6 happy hour price). Ambiance (4 stars): the hibachi area is fairly noisy, but expected due to the performances and the noise from cooking. They have another side room for non-hibachi customers by the bar which is much more quiet. I can't rare the hibachi show meal, but but the hibachi meal without the show is basically the same food and is not really worth the price to me unless you had the show as the quality/taste of the food is not that great. Based on the Shogun Roll and the Baked Mussels, I'm sure other menu items would be much better. The Happy Hour Menu has some good deals if you come after 3pm. If you follow them on IG and post a picture of your meal, they will give you a free dessert. read more

We decided to try this new hibachi spot, but honestly, it's hard to beat Mikado, and we were right. The food was just okay, nothing that really stood out or made us feel like we'd found a new favorite. We couldn't help but miss our go-to place the entire time. What really brought the rating down was the price. For what we got, it felt extremely overpriced, especially compared to other hibachi options in town that offer better quality for less. The one thing this place does have going for it is the ambiance. It's classy, comfortable, and definitely less crowded than the competitors, which made the dining experience more relaxed. I would've tipped him directly if my family was being treated the same but there seems to be "favoritism". Reserved for 6pm today for Mother's Day Sunday, 05/10/2026. This Shogun restaurant is among the best places we visited here in Palm Desert! Authentic environment, fresh seafood, as well as great service attitude, everything made it a must try restaurant! We visited here on Feb 17 to celebrate the Chinese New Year holiday. We were warmly greeted by the reception and waitresses. The worst shogun I have ever been to. If you are visiting and on vacation & are thinking about eating here, think again. The place is so hot inside, the restrooms are filthy, and the service sucks. We ordered Shirley temple, and we asked where are the cherries? The server told us those are for kids only. Are you freakin serious? Poured us a flat sprite with grenadine and hardly any ice. Asked for waters with lemon, no lemon- no straws. Ordered sushi that took forever! No chopsticks, chef burnt our food and had a lack of flavor. This location BLOWS! We went to Shogun in Palm Desert while celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. We were seated and offered beverages. The manager came by and spoke with us for a while, he was very friendly and pleasant. He was sharing a story about his travels and the opportunity to do so with his company- lots of longevity there. The food was presented and prepared in the traditional teppanyaki style. We shared a sushi appetizer that was very good and then we both had the filet and shrimp dinner and of course we had to get the fried rice. The chef was fun and engaged the whole table. Although the food was decent, the service was mediocre to not good at all. We had to serve our own water from nearby pitchers and half of one of our party's entrees was forgotten. When mentioned to the hibachi cook, it was an inconvenience. The interactive part of hibachi was really not interactive at all, our party mostly just watched the chef cook. We love happy hours in the desert and saw a Shogun flyer at the Marriott Shadow Ridge. So we decided to give it a try. Well we weren't disappointed. The place is beautiful, great service and good happy hour food at great prices. We had the cucumber bites, gyoza, Mexican roll and tempura. Crispy cucumber and fried gyoza were tasty. The Mexican roll was fresh and loaded with crab. My wife enjoyed the tempura but it was a little too bready for me. Manager stopped by our table a few times to chk on things, nice touch. Not a great experience. Me and two of my coworkers came in on a Wednesday night to a relatively empty restaurant around 6:30. We decided to sit at the hibachi table. The chef at the table next to us was bumping music over a portable speaker that was distracting to talk over. I ordered the tuna carpaccio and ribeye while my friends ordered the New york strip and vegetarian noodles. One of my friends is horribly allergic to meat, which we told our server. My tuna appetizer was very underwhelming and did not taste fresh at all. In fact, the fish wasn't even cold. When our chef arrived to begin cooking our food, I felt like I triggered him because he seemed very combative after I playfully suggested we have a flare battle with the neighboring chef. He told me he didn't have to prove himself to anyone, and he got himself to where he was on his own. After an awkward conversation, we watched him set shrimp and scallops on the same grill while the noodles were cooking. We were under the impression he would cook the vegetarian noodles first and then the meats, but he cooked the seafood simultaneously. Then he used the same spatula to cook both the seafood and the noodles after we specifically mentioned my friend's allergy. Not only did he disregard the allergy, but his tableside performance was lackluster. There was no attempt to flip shrimp to the rest of us who could eat meat. No fire onion display. No fucks given. Veggies undercooked, noodles overcooked. The one redeeming quality was that the ribeye was delicious. read more
