Not a great experience. Me and two of my coworkers came in on a Wednesday night to a relatively empty restaurant around 6:30. We decided to sit at the hibachi table. The chef at the table next to us was bumping music over a portable speaker that was distracting to talk over. I ordered the tuna carpaccio and ribeye while my friends ordered the New york strip and vegetarian noodles. One of my friends is horribly allergic to meat, which we told our server. My tuna appetizer was very underwhelming and did not taste fresh at all. In fact, the fish wasn't even cold. When our chef arrived to begin cooking our food, I felt like I triggered him because he seemed very combative after I playfully suggested we have a flare battle with the neighboring chef. He told me he didn't have to prove himself to anyone, and he got himself to where he was on his own. After an awkward conversation, we watched him set shrimp and scallops on the same grill while the noodles were cooking. We were under the impression he would cook the vegetarian noodles first and then the meats, but he cooked the seafood simultaneously. Then he used the same spatula to cook both the seafood and the noodles after we specifically mentioned my friend's allergy. Not only did he disregard the allergy, but his tableside performance was lackluster. There was no attempt to flip shrimp to the rest of us who could eat meat. No fire onion display. No fucks given. Veggies undercooked, noodles overcooked. The one redeeming quality was that the ribeye was delicious. read more

Although the food was decent, the service was mediocre to not good at all. We had to serve our own water from nearby pitchers and half of one of our party's entrees was forgotten. When mentioned to the hibachi cook, it was an inconvenience. The interactive part of hibachi was really not interactive at all, our party mostly just watched the chef cook. The greeting staff was polite and helpful with one of our party who needed accommodations, but overall the restaurant needs a refresh. read more

We love happy hours in the desert and saw a Shogun flyer at the Marriott Shadow Ridge. So we decided to give it a try. Well we weren't disappointed. The place is beautiful, great service and good happy hour food at great prices. We had the cucumber bites, gyoza, Mexican roll and tempura. Crispy cucumber and fried gyoza were tasty. The Mexican roll was fresh and loaded with crab. My wife enjoyed the tempura but it was a little too bready for me. Manager stopped by our table a few times to chk on things, nice touch. Overall a great value for happy hour. We plan to come back and try out the teppan grill next. read more

We get takeout from here usually about once a month or so and this time the portions are laughable. The rice containers are only about half full and the edamame had about a third of the regular amount. Not sure it's worth ordering takeout from here again. Complete waste of money. read more

The location is nice and has a fire display outside. I have been to a few Shogun locations and this one has the best tasting New York and Ribeye steaks. The service was good. Where do I even begin, first off we ordered takeout and it took an hour and 20 minutes for just fried rice and calamari. Second off, the calamari was 12 dollars and came with 8 freaking pieces. I also called to ask how many pieces usually come in the calamari and they said only 6! At any other restaurant you're given a whole platter, this was just sad. First, let me point out that we've been loyal customers at Shogun in La Verne, CA, for nearly 20 years, and WE LOVE IT. However, when we visited the Palm Desert location recently, we were excited to try it out. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a HUGE mistake. For over $250, we experienced SLOW service and a "chef"--if you can even call him that--who didn't know how to cook a steak to the proper temperature. Our party of four was quickly seated at a grill shared with another family, and the server came over right away to take our drink and appetizer orders. Since the other family had already received their drinks, we expected a similar experience. However, it took forever for our drinks--just water and two soft drinks--to arrive. The sushi appetizer was also delayed and didn't come out until AFTER the chef arrived. When I ordered my drinks, I also asked for additional salad dressing (I love using it on my rice--it's yummy!). The dressing never came, and I had to remind the server MULTIPLE TIMES. On top of that, I drink a lot of water, and we had to track down our server just to get a refill. Now, for the main course... The fried rice had a lot of UNDERCOOKED and hard rice. While the shrimp were cooked fine, that was about the only positive. I ordered a filet to be cooked medium, but it came out WELL DONE. Based on comments from everyone at the table--not just our party--it was clear that all the meat was cooked to the wrong temperature. I should've known this wasn't going to go well when the "chef" started building the onion volcano with his HANDS instead of utensils. Thankfully, none of us got sick from the 'chef' cross-contaminating his utensils between the raw chicken and the overcooked steak. From what we've heard from others who've eaten at this location, this seems to be the NORM here--wish we would have known that before wasting our time and money. Basically, we will NEVER be eating here again unless the management takes this location seriously and makes the necessary changes. You've been WARNED! read more

Good food. Happy hour prices are decent. We were the only people in the restaurant from 3pm when they opened to 4:30 when we left. Sushi not top of the line. Far from it but makes since because it's not a sushi restaurant. 6.50 for nigiri but the nigiri is tiny. Maybe 50 percent off but definitely half the size than a normal nigiri or order of sushi. This was the best experience we have had at Shogun by far!! The mixologist, Mark, made superb cocktails, our chef, Limber, was not only personable and knowledgeable, making our meal to perfection - but he also performed with fire torches, which we have never seen before! Gabby was the best waitress we have ever had - she managed to make sure my husband got exactly what he wanted - filet, lobster, shrimp, and salmon too!! She's was so personable, warm, and inviting! Such a rockstar!! Last, but not least, was Chris, the manager. He came and greeted us personally and took time to get to know us. Call me biased for only writing a review when it's a really good place or a really bad place and in this case , I was not happy at all, especially with a total bill of $1000 for 12 of us. First off, we waited an hour for the chefs to even get to us after the last of our party got there. We waited half an hour for the last of our party to get there but before then it took them 20 to 25 minutes to even get water or get acknowledged. My wife ordered a second shot of patron, and it ended up being a different type of tequila which she did not drink and gave it away, they also brought me an alcoholic beverage, which I didn't even order again because it was weak to begin with. I had to stack up all the used cups and dishes and put them in a corner for them to even pick them up. Sushi roll appetizers were good (not great) Shrimp fried rice, was below average, my wife's filet mignon was ordered medium well with server, chef never confirmed it before cooking and almost served her crispy steak if she would not have spoke up. Chef did not speak English properly and could not communicate with my wife and daughter and assumed I had to be a translator. No special affects from chefs.... BORING. When this place first opened up, it was a bit different and I did not mind coming here, but now owner or management needs to step it up before they close this place down because of lack of customers. Considering it was a Wednesday night, there was not really an ambience at all. I feel they should have taken care of us a whole lot better on a slow night. read more

At 8:40 my husband checked in and the MANAGER told him they seat people with in 30 minutes of a reservation ???? What!!!! Then they sat us at 8:55. At 9:05 someone came to offer water and I asked how long until they really thought we would have a chef- he said minimum 45 minutes!! THIS IS SUCH TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!! If you know you are running late by over an hour let people know at check in! We wasted an hour. Ended up getting up and just going somewhere else. The manager really needs to stop running around aimlessly, and just let guests know the reality of wait times. It's not fair to keep people sitting and waiting with no communication! read more

When I ordered DoorDash and was missing my dinner sushi roll, I called the restaurant to ask if I could pick it up. The hostess put the manager on the phone for him to tell me it was DoorDash's problem and that they would not be fulfilling it because they claimed they packed it correctly. Its was our second time at shogun, we went this time for our daughter's 6th birthday tonight. They showered her with attention and the Chef JR was engaging with her during the dinner which always makes my night just to see her laugh is everything.
