We were in the mood for some all you can eat BBQ and wanted to try a new place so we decided upon Shokunin BBQ after reading some positive reviews about the place. It did not disappoint. We ordered different cuts of beef, some lamb chops, veggies, and some sushi as well. The meat was on point and definitely a step above in terms of the cuts than other places like Kpot. Albeit, those places are at a slightly different price point and offer hotpot instead of sushi as the other component of the dining experience for the BBQ. We also got some sushi, which was decent but the main attraction is definitely the meat. The service was fairly quick and attentive. We came here on a busy weekend night and got seated with little to no wait. All our orders came out pretty quickly. The set up of the place is pretty cute with it's booths. Came here on a Friday night at 7 pm with no reservation - four adults, one toddler and we were seated almost immediately. The servers are quick and efficient. They come and change your grill very frequently throughout the BBQ service. They supply a whole stack of napkins as well as small plates for you to exchange as you go through your BBQ. Its all you can eat 48.99 per adult, well worth the price. They have a wide selection of meats. The baby lamb chops and NY strip were very tasty. Variety of seafood as well, the oysters they served were huge, BBQ shrimp a must try. Also recommended getting the corn that comes with cheese and the sweet potato, these both were out of this world. It was extremely unpalatable. Everyone knows that grilled meat needs fat. This restaurant is really bad; it's all lean meat. I ordered the marbled beef but they served me beef shank. The croutons in the crab meat salad were from yesterday and had turned yellow. The shrimp paste couldn't be flipped over and the bottom was burnt. Except for our table, the restaurant was empty. Have been wanting to try this place for awhile since it has been around for so many years. Came on a weekday at around 12pm when they opened and there was literally no one else besides our table. The buffet is $41.95 per adult. Their menu is extensive and had a variety of meat, seafood, and sushi. There was a limited selection of vegetables. The marinated meat was so salty but tender. Even the vegetables had sauce on them. Because there was so much sauce on everything, my friend and I had to continuously drink water. There was too much marinade on everything. If I do decide to come back next time it will be less on the meats and get more seafood and try the sushi menu. read more

Came with a party of 6 at around 7pm on a Monday evening and we each paid 54/pp for AYCE after tax and tip were calculated. This is a great deal. The sauces at the table were good, and the quality of meats and seafood were fresh and delicious. The service was also decent with constant grill swaps to keep it from charring the food. The menu is pretty extensive and they have a huge variety of meat cuts, seafood, veggies, and even sushi. Parking in the area can be difficult but not impossible if you give yourself ample time to circle. And on to the bad... pretty atrocious bathrooms. Like disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. Women's bathroom has 3 stalls, all with huge doors that hit the toilet if swung inwards but luckily it swings out too. But the toilet paper is not in the holder? It's just laying about on top of the toilet tank or the railing, which is disgusting and everyone's hands just touch it, and the bacterial plume from the toilet flush definitely land on the whole roll. There was urine on the floor in EVERY stall I checked out so be careful because you can slip. If I wasn't pregnant and unable to hold it in, I wouldn't have peed there at all. The women's bathroom has a sink inside of it. For the men's bathroom, the sink is outside. My husband used the bathroom as well, and he said there was fecal matter on the urinal. The urinal was also dripping and splashing back liquid onto his shirt as he used it. Absolutely unacceptable. This restaurant can get super busy and as an AYCE location, your customers are most definitely going to be using the bathroom pretty frequently. The least they can do is keep the bathrooms semi-clean. I'm not expecting sparkling clean and smelling like bleach, but Jesus Christ, someone mop the floors occasionally and make sure the TP is covered and not just laying about. This is how you spread diseases. We were a group of healthcare workers and were absolutely grossed out and did not use the bathrooms for the remainder of our meal or after. I'm very reluctant to come back for this very reason. It's simply unsanitary. For you germaphobes, or hygiene conscious folks, their bathrooms are abhorrent and I recommend bringing your own TP if it can be helped. Not that this should be normalized. Their menus are laminated but some are falling apart and are mostly sticky to the touch. Again, pretty gross so use hand sanitizer. I'd rather they had a QR code instead so that you didn't have touch their menus. We were sat at a booth that seats 8, and there were 2 small grills which were not large enough for the amount of food we were cooking. A 3rd grill at the table would have been useful or the size of the 2 grills could've been larger. Anyway, that's not something that be easily changed so not a big deal, but something to consider if you're going to be ordering a lot of food to cook because you will have to wait a while before eating any of it because not a lot of food fit on the grill. Overall, the food is pretty good for the price. But personally, I will not be returning due to the bathroom situation and experience. I just cannot stand disgusting bathrooms as a Microbiologist. I really can't recommend this place as a comfortable restaurant experience because for me it wasn't. I was worried about needing to pee again and having to go back in the bathroom the whole time I was eating. We ordered some hand rolls but it was completely full off rice and only 2 pieces of fish. The rice ratio was just too much and the sushi was not very enjoyable. Came here for Father's day, we reserved the private room which includes the karaoke and bbq buffet for $42 something per person (if I remember correctly), drinks are not included. There's a 2 hr time limit, but I think if there's no reservations right after they won't be in a hurry to kick you out. Upon entering I thought the place was a bit dingy. They do have really cool looking booths at the main seating area, but I noticed random empty boxes in random spots and the furniture looks a bit beaten up. But besides the decor we had a great time here. In the private room there are 2 grills. We were sure how to order at first since there's a group of 10 people and of course it's loud there with the music and all, so we thought it might be easier to write our order down on a napkin and gave it to staff. The food came and a staff member stayed in the room with us to cook the food. The food were all okay. But my 3 favorite things were the beef ribs, fried chicken wings, and the Kani salad. After all the ordered food gets cooked, the staff will leave the room and if we need assistance we can just hit the button with a smiley face next to the door. Overall we had a great time, time goes by quick when you're having fun, we ended up staying a bit over 2 hours. I also wanted to add that it was a tad bit confusing to search for songs at first but we figured out that we need to search by song title not by artist. Also I like that the videos are the actual music videos of the song and not random people running on the beach or just words on the screen. This is a little surprise, I read some of the other reviews saying the staff and the choice of meats were meh! I still went and I'm glad to say this place is a keeper and should be visited again. When I viewed the menu, they really had an endless amount of choice meats at a great AYCE price ($41.99 p/p). They also had sushi and sashimi which I didn't order but one person in our group did order a small platter and it wasn't bad but they skimped on the wasabi which was unfortunate. As for the staff, sad to say they were few and in between but when found they were very helpful. As for the ambiance, the restaurant was decorated in a Japan theme with each booth decorated individually. Only gripe I had was the seats were a bit far from the table for my liking. I've been to Shokunin three times in my life. This place, as others describe it, is a hit or miss. Their menu is extensive, and the food is pretty decent, but their service is really iffy. The options range from sushi (too much rice on it imo) to meat and appetizers. I recommend a pitcher of watermelon juice, scallops, the galbi, the garlic/soy beef toro, and the pork belly. Try to stay away from steak at these kinds of bbq places as the meat isn't very good quality, and it's usually not flavored. Avoid the oysters too... they taste weird. We tried to ask the waitress, who was clearly very stressed, to turn the fire on for our grill. She responded with "WHAT???" and we were definitely taken aback. We tried to order more meat after we finished our initial order (it wasn't a big order by any means), and all the service people ignored us waving our hands in front of them. What a wonderful experience eating at this restaurant. The private room was delightful and had amazing and vast karaoke options. I had so much fun singing that I almost lost my voice at the end of the night! Unfortunately, I forgot to ask for a teaspoon of honey to ease my soar throat- but hey, that's on me... I sang for over half of the meal and continuously queued songs to request while investigating the hundreds of artists and songs they had available. I unfortunately forgot my shoes so the floor was a little cold and uncomfortable while I was eating my meal but that was mainly my fault as well. I really enjoyed the sweet potato rolls on the menu that was my largest takeaway as a first time customer. I was really nervous to arrive to the party that was being hosted so I got extra sweaty beforehand. I luckily brought my spare deodorant to the restaurant which was a lifesaver as I get profusely sweaty when I am nervous. The deodorant is this nice coconut vanilla scent that I ordered on amazon and lasts a few months before needing to renew. The deodorant is relatively small so I was able to sneak it in my pocket and apply it to my armpits in the restaurant bathroom when I went in for a quick restroom break. The restroom was also delightful (only one stall and two urinals) and I really enjoyed scrolling on my phone while I was in there relaxing. The atmosphere was very uplifting and I felt really cozy as I laughed at funny videos online that my friends shared to me. The waiters and waitresses were incredibly friendly and very efficient as well (I'd say the service was spectacular). I'd definitely recommend this spot for a group night with friends on the weekend if you are looking for some good food and drinks. I was feeling a little off before I arrived at the restaurant but luckily my friends were being really funny and hilarious and kept sending me funny videos online which really helped boost my experience. Before I arrived I also got a banana and a cliff-bar from the deli by my apartment which was a delicious appetizer before my sweet potato roll. Overall 10/10 experience. I came here several times with my friends and every time we come, it's typically a good experience. I came before the pandemic (and this was when it wasn't as well known yet and the service was so good) and several times during the pandemic. I do think that the quality of service here diminished as we went into the pandemic, whether that be due to covid policies or just increased guest count. The service is just okay here. They used to help you cook your food for you but now you pretty much cook everything yourself. My favorites off the menu would be the marbled steak cubes, the angus steak, the kalbi short rib, the ribeye, and the top sirloin. A lot of their meats are really good but just are the ones that people generally like to get. Their miso/garlic eggplant is also pretty good, along with their scallops and cheese corn. Whenever I go, we typically order very little sushi as we're there for bbq and not sushi but the sushi isn't bad either. The outdoor grills take very long to cook your food and it's not efficient enough when you have more than 4 people for one grill. It was a very cute setting to celebrate a birthday outdoors with the string lights however. They accommodated us by helping us prepare the birthday cake too. read more

There's also I believe 2 private rooms with that are karaoke rooms and you can reserve to have birthday or big group events. Definitely call before hand to make sure the rooms are available. I can't tell you how excited we are to know that there is an amazing AYCE Japanese barbecue place near us!! When we first got here they made us do temperature checks and use sanitizer. And all the waiters masks. The waiters were quick to take our orders and helpful in picking out cuts of meats. The meats were all excellent and we loved all the dipping sauces that were provided. The only issue was with our orders. My brother ordered his cuts and I ordered a sushi roll. The first time they gave me the wrong roll and gave us a platter of seafood and mango salad that we did not order. Then they brought my brothers orders and I was still waiting for my roll. It took about 20 minutes for my roll to come out after my brother had already gotten everything he ordered and cooked and ate it all. The interior of the place was gorgeously decorated and could seat a lot of people. Every table is spaced out 6 feet apart and has its own grill station. I was hoping to relax (from cooking so much at home) and enjoy a good meal, but instead the men's room only had one toilet with a broken door and you had to go outside to wash your hands (not great during COVID times as you don't know how often the bathroom door handle is cleaned). We asked the server to cook for us (which is an option you should avoid as she overcooked pretty much everything). Although the staff were initially friendly, the speed of their service becomes glacially slow after about an hour, especially once you start reordering some of the premium cuts. We came with a group of 13, split into two tables in one of their karaoke rooms. When we ordered alcohol, they came promptly and quick, but when we ordered food, they started to disappear on us. Shady tactics like this is very disappointing, especially given the hefty price tag per person. Tasty ayce bbq in a gorgeous outdoor space, only downside is the long wait to get seated despite having a reservation. Temperature checks before being allowed in. I've been here twice, despite arriving early both times to my 7:30 reservation. I found myself getting seated at 8pm or If I'm lucky 10 mins after reservations despite my party already being all present. I think at one point I was so hangry that I almost just left. But overall this place is good for big groups. Each table has wipes, and hand sanitizers. Once a party has left, they have multiple staff members cleaning the table before another party is seated. The ayce includes all meats, appetizers and sushi rolls. Drinks and Sashimi is extra. It comes Down to about 47/person after tax and tip, assuming you don't order drinks. The kalbi meats and beef cubes they serve are flavorful and well marinated. Easy to self cook. The seafood is a hit or miss, we liked the shrimp but not so much the squid. The rolls are massive, they're quite filling but tasty. Sauces are provided at your table. Service; servers were friendly but sometimes hard to get a hold of. Since the place gets super busy, I also found my order not arriving or being given the wrong order or just having to reorder. The space; the backyard space is spacious, open and gorgeous. One of the days I went while it was raining and they had set up tents to keep patrons dry. The interior is very nice too. Bathrooms; they're open, but check to make sure to check that the toilet paper has been refilled. Recommendation; eat lightly or keep an empty stomachs. This place has a very cute backyard with outdoor seating. It has great lighting (who doesn't love Christmas lights) I think if I were to come back here again, I would opt for indoor seating. While the outdoor is nice, the grill is small and takes a very long time to cook things. Especially when you have 7 waiting to eat. The grill is kinda lopsided and not straight. It is a propane fueled grill with the tank under the table. My favorite things were probably the beef cubes and the ribeye steak. At this price point, I expected the food to taste a lot better but I found it to be average. The cheese and corn was bland. If you get any meat, be sure to try it in their sauces to enhance the flavor. The service was okay. We constantly had to keep asking for water for our table and when we ordered things, it took a while to come. Came here for lunch with hubby and friend on Sunday 9/6 for outdoor dining. 3 Adults for Premium Buffet ($35.95 per person) with tax came out to $117.42. A Deluxe Buffet is $28.95 per person which has limited selection compare to the Premium items so it depends on what you order. We decided against drinks and only had water (cheaper as we are only here for the meats not drinks). We had a table in the outdoor patio and away from other people although there was a table behind us that was a bit close. Each table has a craft of water and hand sanitizer along with 3 bottles of their sauces. Service was good as they would come by to check and removed empty dishes. Each order came quickly but none of the meats were labeled so we weren't sure what we ate for some of them. An experience (senior) server came by and we asked him to explain the differences and for some recommendations. We had ordered all the different types of short ribs and we loved his recommendation (see below). We particularly love the Angus beef ribs! We basically got all the short ribs/majority all beef. [Ordered]: -BBQ- Angus Beef Ribs, Saikou Kalbi Short Ribs, Premium Sirloin steak, Kalbi chuck rib, Black pepper kalbi short rib, Bistro steak, Shoyo rib eye, signature kalbi short rib, ox tongue, pork belly, premium lamp chop (never got it & had to reorder it), signature marbled beef, garlic oyster, bbq clams, mussels, sweet&smokey duck breast, asparagus & bbq cheese corn. -Suggested recommendation- Kurobuta pork cheeks, Horumon & Marbled steak cube -Appetizers- Harumaki, Fried Spicy Tuna Gyoza We did noticed one odd thing. The servers would occasionally come by to change the grill plates for all the tables but ours (maybe they ran out?)- so the nice senior server said he would clean our grill. We moved our drinks, plates and food to the side and stood back while he cleaned it with a grill brush and bucket of water. It was odd because we were the only table to have this treatment and to stand; but I looked at it as a nice extra thing he did for us (special treatment) where the other servers didn't do anything for us. He wasn't our main server but he did come by a few times. After awhile we didn't see him anymore (as we left we saw him take orders inside; indoor dining is at 25% occupancy so he had the tables inside). I never got his name and to thank him for his excellent server but I did get a picture of him cleaning our grill. Overall, we enjoyed our experience. We had never came here before (it was always on my list). Food quality and service was good. We were luckily that they were open and we finally had a chance to try them out. Came here for a birthday celebration as it's one of the better AYCE bbq places in Brooklyn. It's definitely on the pricier side of AYCEs available in the area but you do pay for what you get. It's a Japanese bbq spot but they also offer sushi and dessert on their menu as well. I'm not too big of a fan of the aluminum foil wrapping they made us use to cook the shrimp as it won't fall between the cracks of the grill. But that aside, the meat portions are huge and I would definitely ask for smaller portions to see which meat cut you like the most. The quality of the meat is decent for an AYCE spot and the selection is large. There were definitely some cuts that were a lot chewier than others but we weren't sure which was which because none of them were labeled. Located in Brooklyn one of the only REAL all you can eat Japanese bbq spots . It is soooo nice inside the booths are big and spacious. The tables are big with lots of room for lotsss of food the staff is honestly amazing they are always making sure you have what you need but also not bothering you too much with cooking the food they let you cook it yourself and enjoy the experience. And the quality of the food is top tier. The price is really good as well it's 30-40$ for the all you can eat 30 for deluxe and 40 for premium, I would recommend premium. Everything is delicious and the experience is so much fun. They also have really nice cocktails. A 20/10 for me. The food is delicious, and it's a great value for your money. I always come with an empty stomach and fill up on the seafood. I will say-- It's better to go as a small group and sit at the main tables instead of in the karaoke rooms. Coming in, there was a nice little greeting booth area where you are then escorted to your seats. The tables are elevated (and so were the bathroom stalls!) with cool shrine-like dividers between parties. But that is where the fancy feeling ends.   The tables could have been cleaner, with some burnt remains from the grill still on our table and plates. The sauces for dipping were also run down, to the point where I would have to get my hands sticky if I wanted to try.   But food wise, the menu was extensive! With chicken, beef, pork, seafood vegetable, and even sushi options to choose from, $38 was a great deal. Personally, the BBQ alone was more than enough. There were some hit and misses, with some pieces tasting like straight charred grill without sauce to wash it out. But some of the beef cuts were delicious! Make sure not to cook them for too long for a tender juicier taste, and they even have a recommended time on their menu if you're unsure.   Aside from the uncomfortable unclean feeling, this place had decent food especially for the price.
