Came here on the way back home from vacation. The kids chose this place. Not too shabby inside and our server was nice. The food was pretty much as expected. Just ok. The salad bar was pretty good. The home fries were actually really good, they were just pretty salty. The rest of the dinner bar had mystery meat galore. We opted to get breakfast and just do the salad lol. When we entered the restaurant, there were no other guests, it was approximately 6:30 on a Saturday. That should have been an indication of what was coming. The buffet looked like the food had been out all day. The chicken looked dried out, the mac and cheese had a crust on it, as did the gravy. We ordered off the menu, burgers. The only thing I can say good about is that it was hot. There were multiple tables that hadn't been cleaned. Overall it would be my suggestion to skip over this location if you want good fresh food in a clean environment. read more

Excellent food! Large buffet with lots of good choices, including Breakfast. The turkey and dressing was particularly good. Cream Corn and vegetables were all very tasty. All 4 Soups were top notch. They are Open Sundays. A very nice, hard working crew. read more

The management was quite rude to not only our table, the staff that had seated and served us, but almost everY single person on the floor at that time (we were the only table LOL). I was definitely surprised. Ate lunch / breakfast bar. The food was good and fresh. The service was excellent. Our server always had refills of our drinks readily available. She was very personable and catered to our needs. It was great having a selection of Breakfast and Lunch. If your hungry, best bet for your money. Very reasonably priced. Not rushed and a very relaxed atmosphere. Facilities are clean and well maintained. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for everyone. We ate here twice during our stay in the area and liked it very much! They're taking coronavirus precautions seriously: hand sanitizer stations at entry; masks required when not seated at a table and disposable gloves must be worn when serving yourself at the buffet. All the food we had was fresh and flavorful. Waitstaff was friendly and attentive. On both visits, a member of our party ordered off the menu and it took quite awhile to arrive but it was just as good as the buffet food. Service was great but food was terrible. The fried chicken tasted terrible. You may be wondering how fried chicken could taste bad but it was very clear the kitchen doesn't clean the fryer or change the oil nearly frequently enough because the chicken tasted ashy and burnt and was a dark brown as opposed to golden brown. The strawberries tasted like they were fermenting as well which I guess if you want your kids to catch a buzz off their dessert then maybe that's a good thing. read more

Just had a family brunch here today. There was a wait at the door but worked us in very quickly. Ordered the bar for our whole family. Was well stocked with breakfast and lunch. The kids loved the ribs! The wait staff was attentive and friendly. This meal would have not been complete without a Hot Fudge Cake which was just as good as I remember as a child! read more

Visited Shoney's yesterday, only to find out (yet again) that indoor dining was closed due to lack of servers. This was my third trip within the past month with the same result. Needless to say, there will never be a fourth trip. Obviously, our Shoney's lack competent individuals in the management field. Sticking help wanted signs in front of the business does no complete your responsibility. Good management would advertise and promote job fairs. It took over two years to open and I guarantee it won't be open that long. They are always advertising hiring dishwashers, cooks, servers, etc. Why? Because they can't find quality employees. Waynesville has a lot of restaurants, but not many quality people for positions. I went inside and it was just senior citizens serving senior citizens and appeared to be an adult living center's cafeteria. At least there bright colors. I never got the chance to eat because the elderly waitress never got to me after 10 minutes. She made eye contact with me twice so she either figured I was a shadow or a mirage of her great-grandson. read more

Been open less than two months and when ordering from the menu today was charged more for items listed on menu. Also, charged additional for sides I picked which were clearly marked as sides included with entree. This place is awesome! I only wish it was closer to my home. I had missed Shoney's for a long time and decided to go here for dinner. It lived up to my fond remembrances about how good it was. Ordered the Slim Jim sandwich end it was excellent. And of course, for dessert, it was difficult to chose between the strawberry pie and the hot fudge cake. Service was terrible. Several of the waitresses appeared to be having a really bad day. ordered two hamburgers and baked spaghetti. Spaghetti was not drained lots of water in bottom of bowl. One of the hamburgers came with sauce when it had been requested to have been left off. Bill was delivered before everyone had been served. Bill contained charges that were not ordered. The hamburgers tasted good the spaghetti not so good. Manager came by and apologized and tried to make things right and one of the servers who was not our waitress was very helpful as well. Hopefully service improves and maybe the buffet is the way to go. read more

My husband and I have never been to a shoneys so when this one opened we went, what a mistake we ask the waitress about the buffet and she said yes you can get the fresh bar but we have terrific menu so idiots as we were ordered off the menu, I ordered my food without peppers and of course it comes with lots of peppers, my husbands food was cold, the waitress goes to the table next to us and informs them about the whole buffet and pricing without them asking wow did we get #@*!#@. She comes back to our table 15 min after we got our food and asks was everything good, a little late I inform the hostess about what took place she said oh that's really too bad. I will never recommend them to anyone. I manage one of the hotels in Maggie Valley and I can not recommend them to the guests sorry. read more

Absolutely terrible, the buffet wasn't much of nothing at all, the waitress seemed like she didn't know what they was cooking or knew what was in the bar, when we asked for a real menu, we were Denied because they "didn't have the real menus" they just had the paper kind where they picked what they wanted to make, and so when my father and I ordered our food and my mother got the buffet, it wasn't much of anything my burger was still mushy and my mother's food was hard and just made her sick, my fathers was pretty okay since it was a basic sandwich but after eating there my mother and I both got sick, definitely won't be eating at this location again. The bacon was bits no full pieces and the biscuits were just frozen biscuits. For the price they charge I was expected much better food. We will not go back. read more

This is the most beautiful Shoney's you will ever walk into. Take a look at the wonder and then turn around and leave as fast as you can! The owners (Shoneys of WNC who also own the location in Franklin, NC) couldn't care less whether you have a good experience when you walk through the door. Until they start paying a decent wage, the only employees they will be able to find are people who are smart enough to put in $2.13 an hour's worth of effort. We were there on Saturday, July 3, during their limited hours (because they can't keep enough employees to stay open full dining hours). The floor was filthy, with food, pieces of napkins and straw wrappers everywhere - looked like we had just missed a food fight. And I don't mean around just one table. The server couldn't have cared less about anything except the tip she might get. She plopped down our drinks so hard they splashed on the table. The younger employees were congregating around the empty bar and talking when there was clearly a lot of work to be done. I don't expect a lot from Shoney's. I go for the sentimental memories. Even with that mindset, it was sadly disappointing. (For what it's worth, the buffet had a nice selection, and the kitchen staff were working pretty hard to keep it all fresh and stocked.) A successful business means a lot more than squeezing profits out of an apathetic, underpaid dining room staff. And yes, we left the serve more than a 20% tip, even if she wasn't totally present. To quote the hostess on our way out, "Who is going to want to come back if they don't have a good experience when they come in?" That says more than anything I could say. I hope she doesn't lose her job for her honesty. The problem lies with apathetic restaurant owners, not apathetic employees. For God's sake, at least spend $10 on a decent broom! Yuck! read more
