I have eaten at my share of bbq joints in my time so I feel like I have a pretty solid frame of reference to superior bbq. Unfortunately to me, Moe's was just okay. Not every bbq place offers brisket so that ok but I will admit I was disappointed that was not on the menu. I ended up going with the small rib plate and small it was. The ribs were definitely tender and flavorful but were super petite. The sides were also tiny in terms of portion size in little plastic serving cups. I liked the greens although they were a bit more "stemmy" than I like and the red beans and rice was ok (very loose and watery). The corn bread was actually the standout of plate. I enjoyed how it had been crisped up on all sides. Really tasty. Overall it was just decent, but I just feel like for $17.99, there should be a little more on the plate. read more

A solid 6.5/10. I have a hard time finding good bbq and this was pretty good. The pulled pork sandwich was a bit fatty but the serving size was good and the bbq sauce was good as well. The Mac and cheese was pretty salty but the slaw was really good. The banana pudding was the best banana pudding I've had in a while. Ambiance is a diner style and service was fine. Mixed feelings with the meal. The BBQ Ribs were excellent. Nice smokey flavor and chew. The sauce complimented them well. Bake beans also nicely done with a good blend of tangy sweet. A+ for the cornbread too. The short fall was what they call Beef Brisket? It tasted more like bland roast beef. Almost no smoke flavor, very little bark, and 1/3 of my portion was non rendered fat. I know keeping the fat cap on helps flavor, but in this case it did not and you are shorting the customer on the beef. There are decent brisket offerings around the Carolinas, but when in doubt, learn from the Texans! read more

Wow! This is the only way to start this post. I stopped by Moe's on my way back to SC because everyone I work with in Hendersonville speaks highly of it. The service was amazing and the gentleman at the register told me I won the T-shirt award. So I order what I originally went for Ribs!!! added a side of pull pork for $5 did not go wrong with that choice, one of the extra sides for the evening was jambalaya and I also had the peach cobbler (that when I looked at it, I was what is this? ) to only later choke on those word's because every time I tried to put it down I had to take another bite. The jambalaya I was like this wasn't what I was thinking. So I gave you all those details to say this. I usually start off taking pictures of my food so that the readers can have a visual of what I'm talking about. We went on Friday at 6 pm and they were out of ribs. They were also out of chicken, so I settled for the wings. They were good, but not what I wanted. My wife ordered the shrimp po boy. It wasn't a true po boy since it was served on a hamburger bun. Not a crusty roll. There was so much overly sweet tartar sauce the bun fell apart and she had to scrape the tartar sauce off. I stopped into Moe's a few weeks ago while on a business trip to Hendersonville North Carolina. It was a Monday night and the place was hopping. This was my first visit here and to the area, and from the previous Yelp reviews, I decided to give this place a try. When you walk in the counter to order is right by the front door. I'm not sure if it's always been like this or, they may have changed because of the pandemic but, you order there and seat yourself. I went with a smoked BBQ chicken plate with baked beans, baked sweet potatoes and cornbread. The chicken was juicy and tender. The skin had a nice smoky flavor and had a nice tangy sauce on top. The sweet potatoes and baked beans accompanied the dish nicely. No beer that night, went with an unsweetened iced tea. The waitstaff was attentive and the place is clean. They have a bar in the back that serves beer and wine. The prices here are very reasonable. Overall Moe's was a nice experience. If I'm ever back in Hendersonville I'll definitely pay them another visit. read more

Great pulled pork platter and sandwiches. Pork is cooked to perfection. Needed some more sauce but that is available at the counter for your table. Our sides were Mac and cheese, skillet corn, slaw, and cucumber salad. All the sides we had were awesome. I was way too hungry to take a picture and we pretty much wolfed it all down. Looking up "bbq" around Pisgah National Forest, Google pulled up Moe's in a list that included Appleby's [or was it Chili's?]... so my expectation was not high, but the food was DELICIOUS! My half chicken was smoky & juicy (even the breast meat!) with awesome skin. The amount of sauces coating the pieces were just right - not too much, not too little. My companion's fried catfish was equally well-executed: flaky with a thin-but-crisp coating of batter. The collards were smoky & meaty with a nice bite. The cole slaw was crisp & tangy/sweet with not a trace of mayo! And the cornbread was grilled up crisp on one side - with texture & taste a bit like corn pudding (yummy!). And the price of a meal included a drink (with free refills)! (For those who like sweet tea, they had it and it was excellent! For those who don't like sweet tea, they had the unsweetened iced tea too. ) I enjoyed eating here immensely and would recommend it to other hungry travelers. read more

I've lived so close to this place for about 5 years and only recently got around to trying it. It's strange that for the location (right on Main St in downtown Hendersonville), it always appears closed. If I could give any suggestions on general appearance, it would be to update the street-facing to make it more clearly visible that the place is open. Aside from that, the food was pretty great! The pulled pork was so tender with a few nice crispy edges, and a really generous portion size for the price. On my list of bbq places in the area, this takes the bronze, 3rd place, which is really saying something considering the competition! Went to eat because we love the one in asheville, and the food was equivalent to asheville. However the sever who took our order was incredibly rude. When asking about weather an item was gluten free i was told "i would assume so" and then once I asked if she would ask the cooks she gave a look of inconvenience before going into the kitchen to ask. She re-emerged laughing and said the item was in-fact not gluten free. She proceeded to she she had no real knowledge of what gluten even was which made me feel very unsafe seeing as I have celiac disease so even traces of gluten can make me sick. Parking was terrible. I've been eating at the Mohs in Asheville for 10 years and the food is great. I went into this location yesterday and ordered my usual wings and ribs.. the customer service was just kind of blah. Nobody greeted me or even said hello. My ribs were dry and the wings were over smoked by probably an hour at least. The wings were almost on edible because of how much smoke they got the skin was like leather. Today, I ordered the Thanksgiving Sandwich special. 2 sides and a drink. $10.67. The greens were good. They didn't have a mushy texture like many canned greens. Definitely 4 1/2 . The sandwich was a nice size. However I found the bite to be bland. It didn't hold up well. After I remade my sandwich it still lacked real BBQ flavor. it was a 3.5 sandwich. It's hard to believe that it has taken over 2 years to finally try this place. I had the pulled pork sandwich and my wife had the smoked chicken sandwich, both were excellent. For the sides, I tried the collard greens and the sweet potato casserole. The collards were pretty standard (but good) while the sweet potato casserole was somewhat unique. It had what appeared to be candied corn flakes on top which I thought added a nice texture. I didn't try any of the smoked chicken sandwich but it's now been a few days since we were here and my wife is still talking about that sandwich. Apparently Monday's are the only day they serve brisket so I'll definitely have to try that. All in all it was a great experience. We will definitely be back! read more
