Today my girlfriend and I decided to try the new smashburger place in Camarillo called Shoobys because we were honestly excited to check it out. Unfortunately, it was definitely a one and done experience for us. I ordered the chicken sandwich and it was honestly gross. The chicken wasn't crispy at all and there was so much white creamy sauce on it that the whole sandwich turned super wet and soggy. The breading on the chicken was literally melting off and the bun completely fell apart from how soaked it was. All I could really taste was this weird overpowering cheese flavor. I kept eating the pickles on the side just to try and change the taste in my mouth. My girlfriend got the smashburger and even that kind of fell flat. Nothing really had the flavor we expected. The fries were extremely over fried and tasted more like old oil than actual potatoes. We were putting Tapatio and anything we could on them just trying to make them taste better. About a month ago I had one of the best Caesar salad wraps I'd ever had there. Fried chicken, and fresh salad wrapped in a tortilla. Tonight, I ordered the same thing, and it was edible, but not good. The chicken was very salty, the lettuce wasn't crisp and fresh, and the Caesar dressing tasted off. My kids also got the same thing they had gotten previously, and they said all the chicken was too salty. Way overhyped. Ordered 2 burgers, the animal fries, a milkshake and bottled coke. Total $33 and change. Received all the above EXCEPT one burger... which was a bummer to miss out on that. I don't believe we were charged for the burger that didn't show. The food itself is ok. Girlfriends first response to trying the burger was "this is something we could create at home." And it is. It's not stellar. Burger is small. It's literally bun, sauce, a patty maybe 2, bottom bun. Not sure why their promo image on instagram also included tomato and lettuce, which is not the standard for their burger. The fries were better than the burger but not by much. The fries were hard and overcooked. Cheese was flavorless. Grilled onions didn't add much. Lastly, the drinks. The coke tasted weird. And this was bottle Coke. Took two sips and didn't touch it. The ONE redeeming thing about this whole experience is that the milkshake was bomb. You definitely need a few beers before this can be considered good/tasteful. I understand they just opened and hopefully they'll get their gig together with time. Not to be depressing, if the pizza place couldn't stay open, I don't believe Shoobs will either. My family & I wanted to try a new burger place here in Camarillo so we went to Shoobys. Honestly, what sold us on coming here was looking at their Instagram account because it looked tasty. All of us got cheeseburgers, a fry and a shake. The shake was good. The fries were okay and the burgers were okay. The meat in the burgers didn't have much flavor...and the only flavor we could taste was just a greasy flavor. The buns were soft though and the meat pulled apart when you would take a bite. I can say that this Shooby's in Camarillo, CA has some of the best food espicially for "butcher driven" burger restaurant. As LJ the owner told me all of the ingredients used are fresh made at the location and the best quality. Their Haagn Dazs ice cream Shakes are some of the best I've ever tasted having that real home made flavor. I did not see or taste a bad dish, so whatever you order I feel safe in saying you will be satisfied. Very friendly and efficient workers just tops off a great experience.
