My wife loves a good smash burger and I saw earlier on social media Shooby's had opened in Camarillo recently. Jumped on Yelp to look at reviews and it was a mixed bag, but more good than bad reviews. It's always best to make your own opinion on an establishment and not get discouraged by others, especially when there are more good reviews than bad. Great location in Old Town Camarillo, Shooby's shares space with a creamery and Topa Topa Brewing so it's like a food court, so if you want to enjoy a cold brew at Topa Topa you can sit there and enjoy your smash burger as well. Simple design with tables inside as well as outside for Al Fresco dining. Staff was friendly taking the order, while several people cooking and preparing with one person delivering orders to the tables, that means inside their dining room, outside dining area and at tables in Topa Topa. Didn't wait long at all for our order and everything came out hot and very tasty. Smash Burgers were delicious, great flavor and seasoning. Fries were medium cut and very good, we shared an order and it was plenty. Loved the house made pickles served with the burgers, on the side. Reasonably priced and recently opened so give them time to decorate, their priority is to put out good food. Style it up on your slow or off time, it takes time people to make the place their own. Great concept sharing with a brewery and creamery offering something for everyone. We now have a local brick and mortar location for smash burgers and Shooby's delivers the goods. Shooby's opened this week in Camarillo at the Mark and I was super excited to see what this place was all about. The menu is straightforward with burgers, chicken strips, chicken sandwiches and different variation of fries. Honestly, everything looked good but a burger and fries were calling my name. A+ for hospitality because everyone was so friendly and staff member Shanee was an absolute vibe! We talked book clubs, burgers, and dragon tattoos....who doesn't love making new friends during our foodie adventures!? OK now onto the food...what you really came here for...here's what I got: Classic Shooby Burger: two beef patties, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and aioli (I added ketchup too). This is a bold statement to make but THIS WAS THE BEST BURGER I'VE HAD IN CAMARILLO YET. 10/10. The char on the burger was insane and it was so flavorful. It's made smashburger style and was seriously delicious. For such a simple burger in theory, it was phenomenal and I can't stop thinking about it...please go try this! Shooby Fries: bomb crispy fresh french fries topped with a special sauce, cheese, and grilled onions. These were so good and held up really well with all the toppings, no soggy fries here! Another must order dish. 10/10. The spot is new, but once word gets out, I know it's going to be super popular. Service is quick, much quicker than Freda's. Price is about what you'd expect for the size of the burger with today's inflation. The ambiance remains a brewery, ice cream shop, and then this eatery under apartments in this mixed-use old town area. However the food is, well, good for those who are drinking beer that want a greasy burger I guess. We had the classic Shooby and the regular Shooby with regular fries. The classic Shooby had cheese, lettuce, special sauce, tomato and onion. While the regular Shooby just has grilled onions, special sauce and cheese. Everything tasted a bit salty, while the burgers tasted a bit oniony and gritty even without the onions. The fries were bland, but ranch made them taste better. Nothing was terrible, but nothing was worth coming back for. If I were drinking at Topa Topa with friends I'd have a burger here but that's about the only way I'd come back. First time in since they recently opened and had a great experience. The staff was immediately helpful answering questions. We went with a Lil Shooby (kids), The Shooby, a Fried Chicken Sandwich, and fries. Once the food arrived the owner came out shortly after to check in. He took one look at the fried chicken sandwich and offered to get a new one as he said it looked a little over done and the Parmesan dressing lettuce topping was too wet. We said it was good but some minutes later he came back with a new one saying he has to make sure we were given the best experience. He truly cared about our meal. First & foremost - I understand this is a new business & there will be kinks that need to be sorted out as time goes on... however, you should've known what you signed up for when you open up in a location that has high traffic. With that being said, I was very disappointed with our experience at Shoobys. We came on a Friday night during dinner time, obviously there was going to be a rush. We waited over an hour for our food. An hour for a burger & fries is crazy. Once we got our food, the servers were not nice. I tried giving them grace because it was rush hour & they're overwhelmed but just placing the food trays in front of us without saying anything doesn't really say come back again. On top of the service & wait, the food was not good. The best part was the cookies n cream milkshake, but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary & it was something you could've ordered from a fast food. The burger was too oily & too salty & the fries too hard to chew, as if it's been sitting out for awhile. I loveeeee me a smash burger & I was looking forward to coming here. The menu is pretty simple with burgers, chicken sandos, one salad and a wrap. And milkshakes! I enjoyed the chicken salad. It was tasty with delicious fried chicken. The size was quite large. I'll start this with maybe I ordered the wrong thing. My wife and I split a Crispy Chicken Caesar Wrap and fries, but it was nothing I'd come back for. Hardly any chicken in it (refer to the photo) and it was a bit lackluster. The Caesar dressing was good, but not enough to save the dish. The fries were all the worst parts about in-n-out fries, they were okay when hot, but 2 minutes later they turned into dry cardboard. Today my girlfriend and I decided to try the new smashburger place in Camarillo called Shoobys because we were honestly excited to check it out. Unfortunately, it was definitely a one and done experience for us. I ordered the chicken sandwich and it was honestly gross. The chicken wasn't crispy at all and there was so much white creamy sauce on it that the whole sandwich turned super wet and soggy. The breading on the chicken was literally melting off and the bun completely fell apart from how soaked it was. All I could really taste was this weird overpowering cheese flavor. I kept eating the pickles on the side just to try and change the taste in my mouth. My girlfriend got the smashburger and even that kind of fell flat. Nothing really had the flavor we expected. The fries were extremely over fried and tasted more like old oil than actual potatoes. We were putting Tapatio and anything we could on them just trying to make them taste better. The food they didn't even deserve one star. Maybe we came on an off day, but for a brand new restaurant we expected way better quality, especially with all the hype around it. read more

The crowds are literally just from people telling their friends because the food speaks for itself. So I don't mind the wait. The smash burgers are insanely good. Way overhyped. Ordered 2 burgers, the animal fries, a milkshake and bottled coke. Total $33 and change. Received all the above EXCEPT one burger... which was a bummer to miss out on that. I don't believe we were charged for the burger that didn't show. The food itself is ok. Girlfriends first response to trying the burger was "this is something we could create at home." And it is. It's not stellar. Burger is small. It's literally bun, sauce, a patty maybe 2, bottom bun. Not sure why their promo image on instagram also included tomato and lettuce, which is not the standard for their burger. The fries were better than the burger but not by much. The fries were hard and overcooked. Cheese was flavorless. Grilled onions didn't add much. Lastly, the drinks. The coke tasted weird. And this was bottle Coke. Took two sips and didn't touch it. The ONE redeeming thing about this whole experience is that the milkshake was bomb. You definitely need a few beers before this can be considered good/tasteful. I understand they just opened and hopefully they'll get their gig together with time. Not to be depressing, if the pizza place couldn't stay open, I don't believe Shoobs will either. Plus, in n out is a 2 minute drive down the road and is half the price and twice as good. I won't be trying this place again unless it consistently starts reviving raving reviews. Wanted to check out after seeing it on instagram, didn't disappoint! Service was unexpectedly fantastic, the chef delivered my food to the seat and asked if I had ever been here before and asked for any and all feedback. The feedback being fantastic, the fries had an amazing texture and held up well (even cold!) I got the classic shooby which was cooked perfectly and tasted fantastic. First time at Shoobys! I thought the food was really good. I got The Shooby burger. I thought it was good, fries were good. Their version of the in and out animal style fries were delicious and a big serving. My wife got the chicken caesar wrap. It was also very good. Wait time was normal. Service was Outstanding! I could also hear whoever was in charge hyping up the team like say " awesome job everyone!, good job!" That was nice to hear. They made an extra cookies and cream shake and gave it to us!
