That location has been gone for years, but recently I started going to the Old New York Deli in Camarillo. And now I'm realizing what I've been missing all these years. This is a real, old-school New York Jewish deli and bakery, and I've barely scratched the surface. Let's start with the everything bagels. They're in another class. You really can't compare a good New York-style bagel to something from the grocery store or even most of the bagel shops around here. The chew is different. They're moist, flavorful, and absolutely loaded with everything seasoning. I've been back several times now just to pick up a dozen. I used to think grabbing the double pack of bagels at Costco for six bucks was good enough. Nope. I'm ruined now. These are too good. I'll gladly pay more and actually enjoy the bagel. Then there are the apple turnovers. Astonishing. And the dessert counter is ridiculous. It's overflowing with pastries and desserts, and everything looks like something you want to take home. The staff has also been amazing every time I've been in. And I'm really just getting started. There are blintzes, all the deli classics, and a whole menu I somehow ignored when I was younger.
