If I could give this store zero stars, I would. I just experienced the worst customer service I've encountered in a long time after waiting more than 20 minutes in a line that barely moved. The "customer service" area was crowded with lottery customers, yet there appeared to be little regard for efficiency or customer experience. Unfortunately, this visit was not an isolated incident. This location consistently feels disorganized, cluttered, poorly maintained, and VERY unpleasant. Fresh produce is often difficult to find, and the overall shopping experience falls far below expectations. Despite these ongoing issues, I continued to give them chances because I wanted to support a local business. After today's experience, I'm done. I'll continue to consistently take my business to Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Kings, where cleanliness, product quality, and customer service are clearly priorities. This location has become incredibly frustrating, and today's visit was the final straw for our family. Gross! read more

Have shopped there for 50+ years. Love the savings from digital coupons, and generally fair pricing. Love the plants (in season). Usually find the produce I need. Sushi specials on Wed are good. Really love the Fish/Seafood counter (esp lobster steaming and salmon poaching) Used to love the deli, but the ordering machine turns me off; the prepared foods from their formerly Gourmet Garage commissary look very sad, are not tasty, and are too expensive for the quality. I have managed to avoid the self check-out much of the time. The check-out people are the "human touch" that is increasingly absent. read more

And in the aisle that was ope, only about 3 machines worked and the incompetent staff could not get the other ones to work. The customer service counter here has helped raise the bar; instead of just offering to take a return, they made it right and sold it to me at the original price. That's excellent customer service and sales all in one. Poor guy hadn't gotten his lunch break yet either, he was serving customers because he didn't want folks to wait. read more

In my continuing quest to find the best supermarket options near Maplewood, I was glad to find this store. Not sure of why this store has poor reviews but my first experience was that its a well stocked store, has a solid selection, modern facilities and clean bathrooms. I asked for help 4x when I was there and each staff member was glad to help and got me where I needed to go. I found everything I was looking for including Pat LaFreida meats, which most NJ ShopRites carry but none near the selection I found here. The produce section was very good, bakery looked great as did the deli and meat counters. The parking was not an issue but I went during off peak hours and found entering and exiting the lot easy and access to the highway is great. A solid choice for those in the Maplewood/S.O. area, took me 13m to get there door to door from south east Maplewood. Last star omitted because the ShopRite of Greater Morristown has that fabulous prepared meal court, outside seating, huge brand new store and is a true high water mark (color me jealous). read more

Your attitude begins to change when you enter the poorly designed, claustrophobic parking lot-and worsens when you encounter parkers who should've had their keys taken away when Bush W was President! You funnel in through the tiny entrance, and then you find the layout is actually worse than the parking lot! Mind you, this Shop Rite isn't the worst I've shopped-that crown is worn by the RT35 location in Wall-but it's close. This needs a total redo. read more

Have been going to this ShopRite (Springfield) off and on for several years. I truly like it. Nice people. Well stocked. Two constructive comments: - when I enter and turn right (just before the cakes) it smells like kitty litter. Every visit. - The pre-sliced SR brand deli case - that stocks pre-sliced ham, etc. Possible to measure the temperature in that case? That meat tends to go bad faster than other meats I buy elsewhere. Maybe adjust 2 degrees colder. Thanks for your help! read more

Regarding the service: The seafood counter clerks are not helpful nor attentive. They continue to chat among themselves instead of helping customers. On the other hand, the cashier clerks are pretty competent and do a great job. Regarding the stock: The pastry/bread section is often fly-ridden. The bread is commonly stale. Produce is usually in okay condition though sometimes you have to hunt for something fresh-looking. read more

There are two large potholes in the parking lot. They have been there for a year. They are in the side entrance when coming in through the BBB parking lot. There is going to be an accident. How can you not care and ignore this. You will care when someone gets hurt. Shame on you. read more

I have complained to Management and Corporate about this ShopRite....to no avail. After my first complaint, corporate sent me an email stating they were unaware of the problem. But according to the yelp reviews here....the problem is not new. Here are excerpts of my complaint to management who has done nothing to date: Just to let you know, the issues with your Springfield store have NOT improved. It quite frankly is endemic to that store. ...your employees in that store are simply rude, immature, unprofessional! They don't have to ask me how my day is going, but they could at least say hello instead of pouting and frowning and acting as though they could care less about the job, shoprite or the customers. More unnerving is the fact that they act as though....I am bothering them by bringing my purchase to their register so that they can give me a total and I can give them my money. Truly absurd! I visited the store November 3rd and again November 10th. On the 10th, the cashier ROLLED her eyes at the gentleman in front of me who simply asked for....his receipt! Then she gave it to him with an attitude "practically" throwing it at him whilst turning her head away. She did not greet him nor did she greet me. She never told me my total and gave me the receipt in a shoving into my hand motion. This is unconscionable and I have had it with your store and ShopRite altogether! I have to go out of my way to shop elsewhere....so be it so I don't have to continually shop in an environment and place that causes me aggravation....and shop in a place where the people I am buying from treat me and other customers.....like we are doing them a favor by purchasing groceries from them..... Customer service: zero. What is wrong with my beloved, childhood Shop-Rite? Rotisserie chickens are sold out and I'm told it'll be 15 minutes before they're done. Fine. But why, when they are done and I am waiting to take one to leave the store (this is at 2pm on a Monday afternoon), can't I be given one? Because first the deli dept. employee insists each of the 16 chickens in the rotisserie must be packed. Then they each must be labeled. Then they must all be transported to the standalone display where they are sold. He insists he is unable to hand me one so I can be on my way. Once again, I don't blame the clueless employee as much as I blame management. Were training better, so would be customer service and customer satisfaction. As it is, it's miserable. read more

Crowded with incredibly slow checkout at all times. Produce is weak. The store has gone down hill in a big way. I try to avoid coming here despite the lower prices. OMG! I used to shop here regularly 12 years ago when i lived in the area. This place has really gone down hill! It's antiquated and doesn't have self check out. The aisles are narrow and cramped and if your short look out! you'll need one of those devices w/ a claw to help you get things down from the top shelf. The help is always chatting with each other instead of helping the customers! If you dare ask where something in the store is most of the help look at you like you asked a Physics question. They have no clue! I think retraining of the whole Shop-rite staff is needed!!! CUSTOMER SERVICE SHOULD BE A PRIORITY! When something is a special in the circular many times they are out of that product. This seems to be an ordering and stocking issue! The only positive thing i can say are there prices. They have great prices! Now, if they could just modernize there store, retrain there staff, and improve ordering and stocking it would be a terrific place to shop. read more

Nothing really wrong with the product selection at this particular ShopRite. As a matter of fact, it's one of the better locations when it comes to "take out" convenience food, which is why I keep stopping here when in the area for business. Customer service, however, is another matter. Once again (fifth or sixth time in a row in as many visits over a two month period) spent 10+ minutes in the "10 item or under" EXPRESS line purchasing a bottle of water and some sushi--nothing "express" about it, an no self check out. One of the larger shoprites I've been to. It is very neat, clean and organized. They have an extensive natural foods section and items that are generally hard to find like nayonnaise (vegan mayo). To my surprise they have grassfed beef and organic meats!!! I don't eat meat, but it's nice to know I can get good quality meat for the bf. On the flip side, the lines are long and the parking is ridiculous. Be careful in the parking lot, the patrons are a bit aggressive. read more

WOW, I've worked at many retail places, including Walmart and stop&shop, and I can say we would never provide such poor customer service like the experience I had here. A middle aged long bright red haired lady was my cashier at the express line and oh my goodness, she was RUDE. I would never have such an employee like that working under my name. She said "you better grab something quick because you're holding up the line." First of all, there are plenty of other lines so if anyone behind me is so rushed, they can hop to another register. I didn't know that using the ShopRite coupons required a $10 minimum so I asked if I can go back to shop, and she said what I quoted above, and then said if I don't grab something quick then she'll have to get a manager to void the items. I said I wanted to go back to shop and get something that I actually needed, not just grab any random thing. Horrible experience at this ShopRite. read more

Seems they don't rotate their produce. I purchased a large container of spinach that I found upon opening had pieces of rotten spinach inside. I did check it thoroughly before purchasing and it hadn't expired but perhaps it wasn't stored/refrigerated properly. Also purchased terrible tasting tomatoes, just disgusting. I went to return them but they wouldn't take them back due to their no return policy at this time. I told them they were defective but because I purchased them 4 days ago (I guess they think they got bad in those 4 days which is not the case) plus half were eaten (I cut up half the package for a salad for my family and upon eating the salad found they tasted terrible) they were not refunding my money. Despite lower prices I usually just go to Kings because it always takes 30 minutes more to get in and out of here. The parking lot is a boondoggle. Staff can be slow at times and recently they started to stock shelves during the day. read more

I wish there was a no stars option. Please check everything you buy from this store! Every time I go in there is something always expired and not by a few days I'm talking months and even a year! Back in May I stopped in really quick on my way home from work for some bubba burgers. Didn't dawn on me to check the date on the box. Got home and my husband says " hey come read this and tell me what the date is" I looked and it was May of 2017!! Got back in my car and got my refund and went to Millburn Shoprite. A few weeks ago I had unexpected company figured let me just run there... Cracker Barrel cheese was expired by a few months and black mold all over. Today I ran in for a few things once again (I don't know why) and most of all of the specialty cheese in the produce/deli section was expired. Bri cheese over 3 months old, Parmesan cheese over two months expired. Yogurts expired, Hummus expired. Please be aware of things that you buy in this store. Read all expiration dates even on things you wouldn't expect to have to look at. I spoke to the store manager on several occasions. Not sure what's going on there, but after today I'm done. It's a convenience sometimes just to stop there on my way home but I'll drive the extra few miles to A different grocery store. read more

This Shoprite is on the bigger side. There are a variety of food choices and the produce section is pretty big. The isles are narrow and hard to pass by someone else with a cart. It is strange how the dairy cases start at the back left of the store and span all the way to the front left. There always seems to be issues with the cash registers were the key is needed, which in turn creates longer lines. With longer lines I would like to see the "baggers" open up a line and become a cashier, however I have yet to see this happen. read more

This Shoprite is small enough to have a more 'homey' feel to it, yet big enough to have most anything you need. Most of the help has been their for over 20 years. The customer service is a bit rude sometime, well, one particular woman is, but otherwise it is a friendly store, has lots of baked goods and rotisserie chickens etc. And it's easier than the huge stores to just run in and grab a few things and run out. I love this store, I hope it lasts for as long as I do! :) read more

This particular store needs attention. Produce and deli departments look dirty and unsanitized. The product sometimes looks of poor quality. Checkout needs to managed more closely. At times long lines occur because not enough registers are open. Also, may I suggest those who pack be trained on proper packing. Meats in one bag, produce in another bag. I have been going to the Springfield, NJ shoprite since moving from NY to NJ over 25 years ago, and many of the original employees still work there. I love the people there and find most of them obviously like people and are kind folks. People like Mohammed who (I think) is head of cashiers. He is a nice man and has a lot of responsibilities. Most of the Customer Service people are nice and on occasion when I have to return something, do not give me a hard time. One woman use to, but I have not seen her lately so maybe they got enough complaints about her they put her elsewhere. She seemed to enjoy giving people grief, which is not a good trait in CS people. I love the store, it is small enough to be in and out quickly, and will only go to Union HUGE Shoprite if this one is closed. I'm am known at Springfield store, and most of the cashiers are kind people who enjoy people. This is a trait that should be looked for when hiring. Love the meats at deli, and everyone is nice there as well. Hope they don't change, they are all good people. read more

I love the Springfield Shoprite in Springfield, NJ. Great group of people who have been working their for many years. Plenty of fresh options and great produce. Love the deli and the folks who work there. This Shoprite isn't the biggest one like the one in Union. But I like that. I feel overwhelmed and tired after going to the larger Union store. This is the better option IMHO. I can run in and run out, or spend an hour shopping for everything I could possibly want. I'm not fussy, nor a 'trendy eater' just your basics, that's all I need. This is a great store. I know people have a tendency to beotch when given the opportunity to do so, but beotching puts stores out of business. With all these home food delivery options, our stores are threatened to go out of business. I got a survey asking about this one, probably b/c of all the online options. This is not good... we need options and sometimes you just don't know what you want till you get there and look around. So, stop complaining and save our grocery stores and get off your tail and GO SHOPPING! I'll step off my soap box now. read more

This was kind of a sad supermarket. Lots of thing needed restocking. Woman at the deli counter left before helping us because her shift was up. OMG!!~ Where to begin? I've been shopping here for a very long time, with my mother when I lived at home, and the twenty six years that I've been married. When something is brought to the manager's attention, it gets taken care of immediately. However, I have seen this store in its dirtiest state-chicken bones thrown outside by the bench where the employees sit, piles of dirt/debris that hasn't been picked up. I've brought back meats that were spoiled before the best buy date. That's always my favorite. Having to bring back meat that the best buy date hasn't even expired yet, that you were planning on cooking for dinner THAT night; it delays your dinner by at least an hour by the time you run back to the store for a return, and actually begin cooking it when you get home. Also, try to bring something back. Don't have a receipt? They scrutinize your price plus card to assure themselves that it was purchased in their store. Returns are NOT a problem at Trader Joe's, and the person at courtesy doesn't have an attitude at Trader Joe's when there is a return. Returns are NOT a problem there. Lastly, lately, their prices have become astromonical! Bubba turkey burgers used to cost $5.99 as early as two years ago. Last week, they were $9.99. Seriously? Last time the prices skyrocketed, it was blamed on the increase in gas prices. What's the reason now? In the 1970's this store was a leader. Now, it is a dinosaur. The aisles are too narrow, and they've got displays set up within the aisle, making it difficult to go around someone. The newest thing last year was the pre-slicing of meats and cheese in the deli dept. And how long is THAT stuff sitting there? I don't care if I have to wait for freshly sliced turkey; I'll wait, thank you. Birds flying around the store is another of my favorites. Does the Board of Health know about that? I feel as though I don't owe anybody anything at this store. I have no allegiance. I find myself going to Shoprite less and less. read more
