I was in Baltimore and was looking for a good crab cake and this was one of the first place I saw that had it on their menu. It was like 18 something for a crab cake and 2 sides and what a waste of money! The crab cake was all shredded fine AF crab meat in a small fried ball. I've made better crabcakes at home with Walmart canned claw meat. What a piece of garbage. I got the fries as a side and they were undercooked and terrible and the Mac 'n cheese side has no flavor whatsoever. The saving grace was a coworker gave me a piece of his fried fish and it was pretty good. Great batter and he had a nice portion of fish. But the rest of the stuff was Shore-ly a miss. Chicken battered fried fish is what the Lake trout taste like. Not bad but I prefer my fish fried in cornmeal vs flour. Additionally, I'm not totally sure it was lake trout. Again, good taste, but hardly any bones and the texture of the meat was a little different than the lake trout I'm used to. There's a 2 or 3 piece option. I chose the 2 piece with 2 sides. $12.65 was my total. It was enough for lunch and dinner. I asked what's the most popular sides, the lady behind the counter said fries, yams and potato salad. I asked if she liked the potato salad personally, she said yes. All of the sides are made in-house with the exception of the green beans. They're canned. Cool! I opted for potato salad and yams. I tried one bite of everything before I got home. It took a while for my order to be ready but the fish is fried to order. First bite of the fish, taste like fish fried in chicken, salty, not bad just not the fried fish I was craving. The yams were delicious. The potato was good but served warm. Once I got home and put the leftovers in the refrigerator it was much better. Lastly, which probably really hurt my feelings. I went to Shore's last Saturday and I got the crab soup and it didn't have no crab meat in the soup at all it was watery and had nothing but vegetables in it. I been coming here for over 10 years and I never had a bad experience here. I always get the catfish nuggets with steam broccoli and potato salad that will be my last time every getting the crab soup and then they have a nerve to say on the menu if you want ex crab meat you have to pay for it. The last time I was there about to make a purchase one the employees was eating the crab dip straight from the serving pot, when I said something to whom I thought was the manager he said at least she didn't double dip. It's located in the North East Market which is set up like a mall with various food vendors and even bargain flea market type vendors. They offer lunch specials which comes up to $9.95 including tax. I ordered the bluefish special with coleslaw and fries, the fish was fried to perfection and humongous I literally could not finish both pieces in one sitting. The crinkle fries were good not overly greasy, the coleslaw was some of the best I've had in a while omg. Shore Seafood is a stall in the Northeast Market. Shore sells seafood both ways - raw and cooked. Whatever you get, though, it will be fresh. Shore is probably my single favorite destination for seafood in Baltimore. I love the Northeast Market in the first place, because of the mix of prepared and unprepared foods they offer. Most people go there to get lunch from Hopkins or the neighborhood, but like the area (Hopkins aside) the food is not upscale. Shore, for example, offers fresh fish dishes fried or steamed. Many of the fish they use in these dishes are taken straight off the ice from the retail corner of the stall , filleted, and cooked. I've had the rockfish this way several times, steamed with a mix of broccoli and cauliflower and served with drawn butter. Very simple but incredibly good because the fish is fresh! I haven't tried the soups or the fried fish. On the retail side, Shore offers lots of fish you can't get elsewhere, certainly not in the grocery. In addition to rockfish mentioned above, I've seen porgies, Spanish mackeral, bluegills, steakfish, lake trout, oyster trout, white perch, and salmon... as well as mussels and clams, and there are others that I know I have forgotten. They're great at describing the fish and how you might cook them, and they'll fillet them for you at the stall. I think that they often have oysters, too, and crab meat, but I'm not sure about whole crabs. And the prices on the seafood are very reasonable! There may be other seafood markets like this in Baltimore, but I really like the combination of freshness and salt-of-the-earth ambiance at Shore Seafood. read more

It wasn't a restaurant but a marketplace called Northeast Market. What an incredible surprise! My goal is to have as many quality Maryland crab cakes as possible and I'm glad Shore Seafood was on my list. I prefer juicy and soft crab cakes and this stall cooked them perfectly. Faidley's will always be my fave, but the marketplace (Northeast Market) the stall is located in is so much more chill and relaxed. Definitely more of a local place than Lexington Market, which is touristy on the weekends. Shore Seafood crab cakes go for $10+ depending on how many sides you add, but they're definitely more affordable (and a tiny bit smaller) than Faidley's or Coco's. This stall was always busy whenever I passed by but one day I decided to invest some time in it and it paid off. Their steamed menu is great. I loved the salmon and veggies with just a dab of butter and old bay. Well you get the butter on the side in a cup so you are in control of how much you put on your food. The box contained two reasonably sized fillets and steamed broccoli and cauliflower. It was more expensive than the fried options but worth it. My stomach felt full but light all day. Their fish tacos are good too and huge in size. For fries, they have the average wavy fries. Tacos and fries were $7 plus change and enough for two fulfilling meals. Their crab-cake wrap is good too, spicier than other crab cakes I've had. It looks small but is quite fulfilling. I got it with a plain tortilla. The staff is efficient and was initially friendly but lately has been very cold. I generally smile a lot and usually people smile back but they give me an ice cold face.
