Robert is the man! He takes care of all my cars as if they are his own. Between him and Ruben, the mechanic, I wouldn't trust my STi or Porsche to anyone else. Fast work, excellent expiation of what to repair and why, and very friendly. Coming from the East Bay Area can be quite a trip, but making sure my cars receive the appropriate and careful attention I want them to; I drive the extra mile. Review Round Deux: Things you absolutely have to have with an Auto Care Joint # 1 Honesty. ( Because paying for auto repairs you don't need takes away from $ you would otherwise spend on fighting malaria in 3rd world countries..or iPads or a pet Liger.) Honesty is a given with Robert (see my review from April at the bottom) # 2 Competence and Integrity Robert has become my go-to mechanic for everything. My car was shaking while braking so I ended up taking it in. Turns out my lazy ass should have changed the pads a while ago and now the rotors needs to be replaced. I had my own parts already. Why? Because wayyyy back when, some shady ass mechanic told me I needed new brakes and rotors. I bought them and went to ANOTHER mechanic to install them only to be told my rotors and pads were both fine. See what my life was like before Robert? Robert took care of everything and when the cheap ass part I bought ended up being faulty, I came back and he fixed that too, even though it was my fault and not his. This is the first review I wrote for Robert back in April when his business used to be part of the Precision Auto franchise: 4/22/13 Went away for the weekend and the owner of the inn said she noticed a sizeable oil spot underneath my car. I checked the levels and they were low so I topped it off to make it home. I took it in to Robert and he made time to look at it. They charge $75 for a diagnostic which is reasonable since it takes them time to figure out whats wrong. If something needs to be fixed they apply the $75 towards repairs. Turns out everything was ok. I needed an oil change anyway and had them do that. They just charged me for the oil change since it only took them a few seconds to see everything was ok. This could have been a prime opportunity for them to rip me off and at the very least say I had a leaky gasket or something or charge me $75 anyway. Very honest of them not to! Robert even offered to get me a rental car if I needed it to get to work (which I would have). Honest mechanics hard to find. read more

Robert is attentive, honest, and knows his craft! My car is old and has over 200,000 miles on it. After it broke down on a Saturday, I had it towed to Shoreline Auto Care. He gave me a quote that same evening and had it fixed by Monday. The final price was as quoted even though it required more labor than he thought it would. Moved back from Los Angeles 8 months ago and while I missed a lot about the Bay Area, one of the biggest things I missed was having a reliable, honest shop to take care of my car. Been coming here for several years because they take care of me!! The manager and mechanics always remembers me and my cars. Always feel like I get special attention especially when I bring in my wife's car...they make sure she's driving a safe car. In the years I've been coming here, I've never had a breakdown because they've always been proactive about finding issues before it's too late, even letting me know when the tires need changing...and they don't even sell tires!. Brought my niece's car last month for an oil change and they pointed out some axle issues just before she made a trip to LA. Found out from her that she took a speed bump a little too fast and did some damage to the front arms (she wouldn't have told me if not for the mechanics). They knew the car was a bit older and that I didn't want to spend too much to repair so they fixed it at an extremely reasonable price. But the value of not having my niece breakdown on her way to LA...priceless! read more

This is my second time to go to Shoreline. Based on my first experience and realizing he knowledge of cars...decided to try one more time to see if he could fix my Honda. I have spent the last year and a half and a few $ trying to find someone who could solve my 94 Honda D4 Flashing/check engine light problem. Honda dealers, D4 websites, (yes there is a whole group of us), DIYS on UTUBE, some who claim they can fix it, and after a few more $...failed. I was waiting up to 5 min for the engine light to go out. Rob did warn me that because of the age of the car, finding parts could take a few weeks. He finally agreed to give it a try. I suspect he put a lot more time into it than I was charged and must have done a few tweeks that I don't know about. My car is running like new again!! read more

This place is amazing! Robert is the man! He's very personable, knowledgeable, and will not charge you for services you don't need. I took my husband's car here after another mechanic said there are transmission problems. I dropped the car off around 1pm and by 3:30pm Robert called and said that the transmission is running smoothly and it's not worth the money for a new transmission or transmission repair since there was no serious problems. I picked up the car same day and hassle free! On top of all that, he put air in the tires on my car without hesitation. I will be recommending this shop to everyone I know. THANK YOU! read more

Terrible customer service and sub par work. I had my brakes replaced at Shoreline auto care earlier in the year. Robert was very gracious in getting it scheduled so that I could go on my weekend trip to Tahoe. After the trip I noticed a few things were off. I noticed right off on my trip that the cabin lights in the back stopped working. Now, as much as I don't think replacing brakes should do this, It was definitely too much of a coincidence. Later I noticed that the brake lights in the back were not turning on ( when a cop pulled me over). What was worse- was that the brakes were still making the annoying screeching sound. My mistake was not taking the vehicle back right away ( i don't use the van much other than long distance trips). When I finally took the vehicle, Robert let me know that it couldn't be related. Having taken so long to take it back, I said I will pay for the diagnostic ($40). Now this is when things went wrong - the guy only fixed the brake lights - because that was what was listed on the paper work. All through I kept telling the mechanic that all the back cabin lights were gone and that they might be related. Now, I was exasperated at the fact that not all my problems were fixed. I let the guy know that I was unhappy and left. Later robert called me up and said something to the affect that people like me want things for free. I let Robert know that I pay for what is fair, but when I think something is unfair I refuse to pay. At this point the discussion turned completely and We proceeded to have a discussion on dignity of labor and he basically said that as a person working on a computer the value of my handwork is way less than any of his guys doing manual labor. I have respect for what I do and work hard for a living way too much to go back to Robert and be told that my hardwork doesn't count. Whilst the manager there Rob is a bit rough around the edges, he's a great guy if you get to know him, and he knows his cars. The place is Ok. I did a Serpentine Belt exchange here. They charged me $55 for the belt and $100 for the labor. I think the belt is no more than $30. And labor is expensive in CA maybe. The price is not good but can be accepted. Robert suggested us replacing the tensioner and would charge me $250 more.But he said it's too late to get the part because we didn't make the decision when we received his call. Actually it's only 15 minutes late. Anyway I don't like his attitude and decided to take my car away right now. read more

I have had my car checked there frequently, they check every detail of the car and I really mean it. They go over the car from the engine to the volume button on the dashboard. I have once brought my friend's car there with the bumper ripped off, they fix it quickly at a good price. I can really say that they are taking care of the customers' cars like their own cars. I never feel worried about leaving the car to them. Robert is an honest guy, he is funny yet serious when it comes to maintenance. I really like this place. I found them online and went in for an oil change on my BMW. Great service, very knowledgeable. I have been going back for all my services. A lot less expensive than the dealer, and I can go in in the morning and have my car back the same afternoon without having to wait a while for an appointment like I used to at the dealer. Called the shop regarding a check engine light on my BMW. I had taken it to the BMW dealer down the street and the Service Manager said the repair cost would be around 2800.00 and the problem was the Catalytic converters. I took the car to Shoreline auto for a 2nd opinion and spoke to Robert. They did a diagnostic test and determined it was the 4 Oxygen senors. Final bill was around 800.00 and all is well. read more

We had a prospective buyer for our car take it here for an pre-purchase inspection. He found that all the brakes and rotors needed replacing, plus the front wheel bearings. The brakes were done 2000 miles ago! Today we took the car back to the shop who did the work and the rotors didn't even have any wear on them, and the bearings were fine (car has 62k). To top it off he quoted $2k to fix the problems. Maybe he was trying to help his customer get a better deal, but his price to fix the so called issues was double any independent shop gave, and more than the even the dealer! Stumbled upon this business after visiting AAA behind them and realized Robert understood Subaru really well. His techs accurately diagnosed and repaired several major issues on my Outback and Robert constantly communicated by phone and also texted pictures to show work and progress. Given all the issues the car had, Robert created a package approach that included all the needed repairs and parts but kept cost under control. Lots of value for the money spent and the car ran great afterwards. I will not hesitate to take my Subaru back to him again for work needed. Update. Returned in Nov 2015 and Robert again diagnosed and repaired leaks on the back side of the engine. Car runs great again and no leaks or awful burnt oil smell. Great experience again. read more

$100+ for simply checking/diagnosing. Maybe $$$ comes easy for others, but even using an expensive diagnostics instrument for a few minutes does not justify this unacceptable high cost. I can't help but think that because I am a tiny woman, obviously with no car mechanics experience that I tend to be an easy target. Also, very importantly, I was under the impression that my total bill was just gonna be max $85 for oil change (quoted $49) and air filter ($25) and then plus tax. If I was told that it would cost an unbelievable $100+ just to check things out using a plug in diagnostics device, I would have gone to a different auto repair place that my other friend recommended. I did also asked Robert and team to spray the bottom of the car to prevent rust while the car is jacked up; Robert did not inform about the cost, and using common sense, and after reading many positive reviews of this shop, I thought it was gonna cost a few dollars max. but No, it was $50+ for the 10 minute "favor". My total bill today was $180+, actual job performed on the car includes oil change, new air filter, and 10 minutes of spraying rust reformer that I brought over. Also a sign is very clear when observing the people that work at a place; there is definitely a lack of passion at this shop; I hope with the $$$ made, the workers are well paid. Robert told me they make $150 an hour. I am definitely very distressed. The shop was not up front with me about the costs involved. Have paid this time and learned a lesson. read more

They did a great job gave me a good price and didn't push a million extra things on me, (even though I know there is plenty...my car is old). My husband and I have been going to this shop for at least 7 years. They are top notch and really know what they are doing. We've had brakes, a transmission, an alternator, etc done and never have had a problem. These guys are direct and to the point. They don't do oil changes, it's because you can go some where else and get it done cheaper and faster. You go to them when you have major repairs to do and they are uncanny when it comes to trouble shooting problems. They know their stuff and we trust them. p.s. Wow, what an experience we had with Shoreline. It was apparent that they had work and that their customers were happy. I was intimidated but what could we do? Our car broke down with enough push to get us to shoreline. Pricey $$ well their customer's car were imports and pricey but Robert and his team really worked with our small budget to get us to our destination and back. He gave us solid advice to work from and God forbid we have to go back but if we did we would find our way back to Shoreline. I hit my passenger side mirror of my Honda Civic and the structure got disassembled due to that. The clip inside to which the sideview camera is attached was broken and the whole thing seemed somewhat opened up. But everything was working fine, as the mirror itself was good and camera was woking too. Before going to the Honda dealers I checked with this place.
