Harold is a throwback. In a truly good way. Shoreline Shoe Repair is in a tiny strip mall on Hwy 1 in Half Moon Bay. It is one of the LAST examples of good ol' fashioned customer service centric operations in CA. And that comes back to the first word of this review....Harold. Need your shoes re-heeled? Need your luggage (that's been hit by the gorillas behind the scenes at the airlines) fixed? Are you a biker that needs patches sown on your vest/jacket? Or are you some nut with a '52 MG that needs custom leather straps made (don't know anyone like that...no sirree). Harold's the guy. He calmly listens to every need, and in just a few days, addresses those needs. One heads up - part of the throwback? Cash. Something to remember. I took like 5 pairs of shoes in to Harold for repairs last month. I'd been letting them pile up and finally had to take the plunge when the heels on my Virgem Madre pumps gave up the ghost. The store is a tiny little spot in the usually-quiet shopping center here on Route 1. It's crowded with shoes and handbags of all shapes and sizes. When I dropped off my shoes, Harold was out on medical leave so I spoke with the woman covering for him who was very friendly. She said it might be a while before I get everything back due to Harold's absence but that was no problem. Today Harold called to let me know everything was ready. I've never had shoes repaired before so I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but holy shit was I impressed. The quality of Harold's work is astonishing and everything has been put back to rights. Harold is an absolute delight to talk to as well, and made me laugh my ass off for most of my visit. One thing to keep in mind: Harold accepts cash or checks only. I had to scurry over to More for Less to hit up their ATM but that wasn't a big deal. I have a couple more pairs of boots that need some help....I'll definitely come back very soon! read more

Harold is amazing!! My favorite pair of boots were completely falling apart to the point where my toe was breaking out of one. I was nervous he would turn me away not being able to fix boots that were so trashed. Not only did he restore them to good as new, but he did it for a 1/3 of the price it would have been to buy new ones. I had the great pleasure of meeting Harold The Magnificent in early June of 2015. I had a shoe AND a belt emergency. Harold The Magnificent ( hereafter known simply as HTM ) greeted me warmly and attended to my crisis at once. It is abundantly clear from the tidy nature of his shop and the volume of repairs ready for pick-up that HTM is not only popular, he is an accomplished craftsman who takes obvious pride in his work. I spent a few minutes engaging him in conversation and was utterly charmed by him. HAROLD is a master of repair, leather restoration, new heels or soles, stitching up leather that has developed a hole, like my Timberland loafers. I hate to buy new if I can repair something. l told Harold that I was just using my old loafers as yard shoes, but when I came back for pick-up, they looked all repaired, polished & like new! I had a light tan leather overnight bag I used for quick business trips, but my roomate left water on the countertop where my bag rested. It developed a water stain overnight at it sat in the water and I was devastated, but Harold made it look so much better. He repaired a favorite leather purse too and can replace a zipper! read more

This was the first time I had a pair of shoes repaired here, but it won't be the last ... Harold Isaac is a true old-world craftsman, sadly, one of a disappearing breed. I recently took in a pair of my youngest daughter's favorite short boots. The heels were worn completely off and part of the material under the heel was damaged on one of the boots. Along with that the leather was separating from the sole at multiple points and was so thin at the toes, I was worried that just working with it would punch a hole through. Mr Issac was very nice and forthright; he told me that not much beyond a good polishing could be done about the thin leather, but that reattaching it and fixing the heels was very doable ... I prepared myself for the sticker shock and boy, was I shocked. I picked up the shoes one week later, exactly when he said they'd be ready, and they looked nearly brand new. The heels were rebuilt and with better, more shock-absorbing material than was originally used, the leather was well attached and polished to an almost military shine. Despite the work, my daughter said they were just as comfortable as ever and was VERY happy to be able to continue wearing them. The real shock, as I mentioned, was the price: Mr. Isaac took a pair of shoes I wouldn't have felt comfortable donating and gave them a new life for less than what I pay for my knock-abouts, purchased at K-Mart! More than that, he made my daughter glow. Payment was by cash, or check, which was just fine with me. Thank you Mr. Isaac ... I'll be back and refer anyone who needs shoe repair; you are a true craftsman ... and a nice guy too. read more

This is the kind of business that most of us really miss nowadays -- a small retail business, focusing exclusively on its specific service and with the high competence built from that focus, treating its customers as individuals, in a fair and friendly way, contributing to a sense of community simply by its existence. Almost unheard of now, in this world we have built of conglomerates and "big boxes". Kudos to Shoreline Shoe Repair for that -- but as previous reviews have noted, there's much more. The service offered here is top-notch. Whether the leather products I bring here are cheap and almost disposable, or extremely expensive and well-made, he always seems to know the precisely right solution to bring them back for a new life of use. He's both a craftsman, and a diplomat when explaining real-world solutions. He produces full satisfaction on both schedule and budget (prices are very reasonable). He was not only able to replace and put beautiful new straps onto the bag, he did an awesome job of making the straps look vintage to match.
